Don't remember exact name (chicken dish)
Iulia G.

Our second dinner in Playa del Carmen, we already knew we'd be sitting outside and sweating profusely despite their outdoor fans. They also had a DJ playing extremely loud music. While I liked the choice of music, I felt like I had to scream in order for my friends to hear me. They offer menus in both Spanish and English, which was definitely convenient. We ordered a few drinks, some apps, entrees and dessert. My drinks were pretty good, but extremely watered down - barely tasted any alcohol. The grilled corn was delicious, definitely recommend it. The chicken dish I ordered was an embarrassment - the chicken was waaay too gummy. My friends, on the other hand, ordered some salmon dish and it was really good. The dessert hit the spot too. Overall, a hit and miss kind of place. But our male server seemed to have an issue with me. Every time I spoke, he pretty much ignored me but had no problem speaking at length to my male friends. Hence the 3-star rating.

Delicious, authentic food and friendly service. Nice breeze to offset the Mexican heat.

Al Pastor flatbread

We went to Trujillos because it had been highly recommended to my family. The place is actually really cool with a large bar area in the center, low lights, and a disco ball! I ordered an Al Pastor flatbread to share and I was a bit disappointed by it. It came out cold and the flatbread isn't really like a flatbread consistency, at least not like ones I've had before. My brother ordered the pechugon and said the chicken lacked flavor. His order was supposed to come with asparagus but they ran out, so our server was kind enough to offer us an alternative (grilled squash with some chimichuri sauce, which was pretty good). My mother ordered the salmon and she said it was delicious, so it could've just been the meal I chose that wasn't that great. Overall, I may need to try something else to give it a better rating.

My partner and I loving the vibe at Trujillos!

This is by far my favorite restaurant in PDC! The lush tropical garden atmosphere accompanied by the expertly cultivated lounge music and live DJ create the backdrop for an amazing night out with friends or a romantic evening with your partner. The food is out of this world delicious and the drinks are to die for. The team that make the magic happen at Trujillos are so friendly and make you feel like part of the family. 10/10!!!

Beautiful outdoor bar and patio.. nice wines and definitely craft cocktails We just stopped by for a drink and to check it out. Nice relaxing lounge music Great ambiance Bartender was super nice and efficient Everyone was welcoming Social distancing was enforced and we felt very safe We will definitely be back for dinner next time in PdC

My friend bought me some roses from a guy selling them there

I went to Trujillos during my visit to Playa del Carmen for my Bach trip. I loved the aesthetics here. You felt like you were in a jungle. It didn't take long for us to be seated, but it took awhile for our server to come take drink and food orders. Once we ordered drinks and food, it kind of took awhile to receive everything. The food was okay, but not worth the price in my opinion. I ordered a margarita and it was very strong to the point it was unbearable to drink. It wasn't my ideal margarita. Overall, we had a decent time here and the icing on the cake was a man coming around selling roses and my friend bought me some! That was the highlight of the night. Trujillos was a good vibe and the ambiance is nice.

Tuna tostada!

What an experience! This place is a vibe, the service is awesome, and the food is unique and delish. We thoroughly enjoyed the tuna tostada, guacamole, rock shrimp, and ribeye flintstone. The tuna tostada was truly top notch! Must order.

King guacamole

We visit playa del Carmen once a year and this was our first time trying Trujilos, we will definitely be back! The food and drinks were great, especially the chicharron that's served with the fresh guacamole! It's in a great location near the downtown area. Most of the restaurant is completely outside. It feels like you're dining in the jungle. No need to worry about bugs, the staff creates a smoke substance and walks it around the restaurant which keeps the bugs away. Menus are in English and Spanish so ordering is easy.

Argentinian sausage appetizer

If you are looking for great cocktails, food, and ambiance, look no further! The Guayabo was refreshing and citrusy without being too sweet. The Argentinian sausage appetizer was outstanding (it's a lot of food!) and the Caribbean chicken was also juicy and flavorful. Don't leave without trying the Panelote!

Octopus

The food here was really good. My favorite was the rock shrimp and fresh octopus. The beef was a bit chewy on the guacamole.

Margarita

Everything was absolutely delicious, probably the best food we have had during our week long stay in PDC. I didn't get a picture of the King Guacamole but it was also fantastic.

Overall this is a great 5 star restaurant near the bottom of 38th, amidst a cluster of pretty good restaurants serving all different genres of food. As you approach the bottom of the calle you will certainly hear the ambiance as you get closer to the venue, standing out from the crowded street you'll know you found the right location. As soon as you approach you will know this is no ordinary restaurant. We sat at the table, but I was disappointed we didn't sit at the bar. It seemed like that's where all the fun was being had. Plus, we did have to wait on drinks a few times so I was getting jealous of the patrons who had a bartender at hand. All the food is light and fresh. The guacamole and chicharrones was one of my favorite meals, very fresh guacamole, and it was a combo I haven't had before. The short rib was also excellent, served tasty and hot. Of course I had to have the octopus, maybe one of the best on the playa. It had just the right tenderness and smoky flavor. I also liked that it was served with a healthy serving of fresh vegetables: carrots, potatoes, zucchini, and a side salad with lots of cabbage. Overall it makes a nice light and healthy dinner, good ambiance and music, and I like the decor. You don't leave feeling "stuffed" but you're not hungry either. Definitely a good spot to bring a date and have some fun

Came across Trujillos on the way to Quinta Avenida from our resort and saw how all the tables were occupied so we decided to make a reservation for dinner there the next day through their website. What we got: El Caribeno Camarones Peñasco Rib Eye Flintstone Pulpo a Las Brasas Brownie de Chocolate Abuelita The camarones penasco was a bit doughy but tasted great. The rib eye flinstone was soft and juicy, but needed a bit more salt. The pulpo a Las brasas was soft, but needed a bit more salt as well. The brownie de chocolate abuelita was perfect! The drinks were strong and the service was amazing!

The first time it was just for some drinks and then we ate here on New Years Eve. Our bartender was Frank and our server was Esencia Vital. Both were friendly and helpful. We ordered 4 things and all of them were pretty good. We got the Tempura Oysters which were excellent and not greasy at all. The Tiradito Boticario was my favorite. Great texture and flavor without being overwhelmed with sauce. The Camarones Boticario were also quite good. My wife had the Ceviche Boticario and said it was on point. I drank mostly beer which was Corona and I had a glass of white wine. The wine list was limited but they really specialize in their drinks which looked fantastic. We would recommend this place to anyone.

We were very happy that is open now! I decided to start off with the "Mieles De Maria Sabina" A wonderful mix of 400 Conejos Mezcal, Ancho Reyes, cranberry juice and a "homemade punch". It was very refreshing, well balanced and came in a really cool glass! My second drink was the "Amarra Hombres Cascados". Gin, Aperol, grapefruit juice. It too hit the spot on a really hot day. Definitely a place we will hit when we need a good cocktail!

The space is warm and completely unpretentious--wood, simple tables, an open kitchen and a palapa-style roof. Nothing about it screams "fine dining," and that's part of the charm. The perfectly prepared food does all the work. We chose the tasting experience, and bite for bite it was outstanding. The fried mushrooms were perfect, the fish ceviche was awesome, and the beef tongue was cooked beautifully. And don't be afraid of the grasshoppers--seriously. Yummy. Even ingredients I normally don't gravitate toward, like black beans, were used so thoughtfully that I enjoyed them. The drink pairings were equally impressive--tequila, beer, wine and espresso--and each one genuinely complemented the course it accompanied. We were basically the only guests that evening, and our waiter turned that into a wonderfully personal experience. He patiently answered every one of our many "American questions" about the ingredients, preparation and pairings, never making us feel rushed or out of place. A sincere thank-you to him, the cooks--who my partner and I gave a standing ovation to--and the entire team for making the evening so memorable. My one tiny suggestion? Cloth napkins. With that many courses, sauces and textures, the paper ones felt a little out of step with the quality of the food. But when the napkin is your biggest criticism, they're doing something right. And then there's the value. For an experience of this quality, the price was remarkable. Our total was about $320 including tip for the full tasting experience and pairings for two. We have spent more than twice that on comparable special-occasion dinners at home, so Axiote felt not just exceptional, but genuinely budget-friendly for what you receive. Axiote is relaxed, confident, welcoming and absolutely worth leaving the resort for. Go hungry, ask questions, trust the kitchen--and yes, eat the grasshoppers.

The service is quick, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and the food is consistently delicious. Before your meal even arrives, you're served a plate of fresh radishes, cucumber, and lime wedges, plus a selection of toppings including tomatoes, onions, and both a green and red salsa. Unfortunately this location didn't give us the cactus like the other locations did. The red salsa was my favourite, it paired perfectly with the tacos and had just the right amount of heat and flavour. The standout for me was the al pastor taco. The meat was incredibly flavourful with crispy edges, a smoky char, and the perfect balance of savoury spice and sweet pineapple. It was easily one of the best al pastor tacos I had in Playa del Carmen. I also tried the sirloin taco and the chicken breast plate, both of which were excellent. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the quality was impressive, especially for the price. El Fogón absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're looking for authentic, delicious tacos and grilled meats that won't break the bank, this is a must visit.
