I don't know what all the craze is about this place. I went there to get some grilled fish, I wasn't wowed. The others that are giving 5 stars for this place makes me wonder what am I missing. My fish was cooked ok, was it fresh... I wouldn't say omg fresh but it was decent... The fries were ok.. Paper plate service I dont mind as long as the food is killer good. I have had some of my best meals from street vendors or people cooking on the beach and hole in the wall spots. So with this place I don't want to give them less than three stars b/c their food is not terrible but its nothing worth going out of your way for. As I skimmed through some of the other reviews I gathered that so many people think so highly of this place b/c they are comparing to chain restaurant food or other places that I would normally wouldn't ever get fish at. So my opinion of this place, if you are in the mood for fish, I would say try it b/c there aren't many fish places in this area. The only other place for take out is in lebanon, nj. Its not bad, but its not great, its ok. I remember that I wasn't happy for the price I paid, I think I paid almost $16 (could be less or more just guessing) for a piece of grilled fish and fries on a paper plate with a drink. I was pretty pissed when I left b/c I was hungry and would have made a better meal if I went to the supermarket and got their crap fish and did it at home. So for the price I wasn't happy with what I got, I will go back to see if they can change my opinion but if I go back and I feel the same way then I will never go back. I thought I was going crazy and just called a friend before posting this review b/c I felt weird posting a 3 start review when most others are at 4 and 5 stars. My friend is a chef, he said he would never bother going there that the food is blah and overpriced. Now I feel better posting my 3 stars, he wants me to give them 1 to 2 stars at best. Decided to try this place while on the area based on the yelp reviews. The wait was about half an hour which we expected due to the line for the restaurant...unfortunately once we were seated the waiter took extra long to come around which wasn't a promising sign. Good thing was the wait allowed us to admire our neighbor tables food, unfortunately ours was not very good once received. Very simple decor. Truly, nothing fancy to look out. HOWEVER, our waiter Kareem was incredibly friendly, social, and provided great context and recommendations from the menu. I had the scallops and my husband had the tuna. The homemade sauces and gouda mashed potatoes were awesome. The key lime pie was homemade and incredible. At the end of the meal, Kareen walked us through the restaurant to show us the coffee shop and the cool atmosphere where you could enjoy your coffee inside a 100 year old pottery kiln. Very cool. Whenever we are going out to eat, the kids ask "Are we going to the fish place?" Not MickeyD's, not Chuck E. Cheese, not cruddy chain restaurant that makes my soul die - the fish place. The kids are right, this is a fish place, not a seafood restaurant. It's no frills, no reservations, plastic plates and cups, paper towels instead of napkins, BYOB. The kids are also right in that it is our first choice for eating out. The menu is so varied that we could go there weekly for years and never have the same thing twice. The food is amazing and cheap and the portions are generous. Husband and I once shared the BFG mussels appetizer, and were both stuffed before our meals arrived. I love the "From the Grill" selections, which allow you to custom make your meal with your fish, sauce and side of choice. The regular old Fish & Chips always hit the spot. There are always a few specials, too. If I had to pick one dish that I liked the best, it would be the Teriyaki Salmon Tacos, but I've loved every meal I've ever had there. I've never had one of their non-fish dishes, and neither should you. The name of the place is Blue FISH Grill - what are you doing ordering the burger at a fish place, you wacko? Cons: - I feel like I'm killing the environment a little every time I eat there with all the plastic plates and cups. - Only one dessert on the menu, but we are always too stuffed for it anyway. In a nutshell: You should be eating there at least once a week. Nom, nom, nom! Update: BFG moved and now uses real plates. It's new home is much more upscale. I came here on a Friday or Saturday, our server was super knowledgeable about the specials and overall restaurant itself. It did take awhile to get seated and get water but it was a busy night and we didn't mind! My boyfriend had the salmon and rice, I had the curried crawfish and shrimp special. We've been going here for a long time, even at their previous location, so obviously we love the place. However, tonight, we had the WORST service EVER! We were ignored by our server, Kim. She got our drinks and took our order and disappeared. When she finally brought us our food, she didn't bother to refill our drinks, which were empty. I asked her twice for vinegar, never got it. She never once checked on us during our meal...completely ignored us! It was unacceptable! This is very unlike any other experience we've had there, and it was very disappointing. Liked the fresh fish, calamari, the softshell crab tacos (a special item), and the french fries (sugar makes them sweet). The homemade chips were good too but a bit well done. Really liked the grilled pineapple and the key lime pie. Kinda disliked the ceviche...it tasted more like bad salsa. Really disliked that our server was not that adept at clearing off dirty dishes (who wants to see what's left of your appetizer plates when you are eating pie for dessert?) and the fact that the hostess's job description is apparently limited to being a food runner and not a dish clearer. She eyed our pile of plates a few times but that was the extent of her involvement. We also had to wait a loooong time for our server to bring back our credit card after we gave it to her. I had brunch today at Blue Fish Grill. The food was well prepared and very tasty. Things were very fresh. I had the steak bowl, another person had the pulled pork and a third had the avocado bowl. As it was brunch, eggs were included which was a tasty addition. The coffee was fresh also and really, really good. Service was a little odd, but the meal more than made up for it! Appetizer highlights were the shrimp cocktail "ceviche" with tortilla chips and the fried calamari. Gotta give it up to the calamri as it wasn't too heavily breaded, the dipping sauce was tangy (think an improved tartar with capers), and it included small fried banana peppers as well. For entrees, I'd have to say the salmon was grilled to perfection and the fisch tacos were plump and crispy. A cole slaw came with each which was obviously freshly shredded that day. Came here with my girlfriend this past weekend while visiting my mom who just moved to the area. We chose BFG for lunch simply because we were starving and it was nearby. And we couldn't be happier we did. Our waiter Karim was awesome. Super friendly and genuine. We were seated quickly outside and it was a beautiful day. Karim opened our wine for us and we browsed the menu. With so many intriguing options we decided to risk it all and just split three apps. Well that risk paid off. We got the kung pao chicken, black bean plantain empanadas and the ahi tuna nachos. The empanadas we not your traditional style. The plain rain was the dough and it was soft and sweet. Although not being like a normal empanada, I really enjoyed this different treat. The king pao chicken was also very good. Small pieces of dark meat, friend to the perfect crunch and the sauce had just enough kick to it. Finally, the ahi tuna nachos. This is the best thing I've eaten in months. Raw ahi tuna over wonton chips with a bomb wasabi aoli and sesame chili ponzu. The chips were crispy and tuna tasted fresh and smooth. The seasons chili and wasabi aoli brought a nice kick. The dish was a refreshing take on nachos and I recommend it to anyone who comes here A beautiful experience for our first outing in Flemington. Seriously delicious food, I've never had a disapointing meal here. Totally recommend the kale Caesar salad appetizer, and I love all their twists on "old favorites" in their menu. Staff is friendly and attentive, even when it gets super hectic (it's a popular place and can get pretty crowded, reservations are recommended). When it's warm, the outdoor seating option is nice. This place is very small, and if you come on a weekend, you'll likely have to wait a short time for a table. The atmosphere is very casual and cozy; however, the floor's often a bit sticky, and the decor isn't particularly eye-catching (thought it is fun!). Their seafood is fresh and delicious, their portion sizes are hearty, and they often have interesting specials. Quick takeout and fresh food that is just the right serving size. I don't know about other reviewers, but I find their food tasty and hot. Perhaps if you are used to the overly salty artificial food of TGIF or Applebees you will find this food toned down. The one complaint that I have is that they way under-built the air conditioning in the summer and the restaurant is very warm. They told me when I was there that they knew about the problem in the summer and were working with the land lord to find a way to rectify the issue. I find their service to be really very excellent and quite prompt. They are well versed on the menu/specials as well as offering recommendations that they have actually had. One request that I have is that they add back the veggie sandwich and not just have a veggie burger. They used to have a sandwich with grilled vegetables and fresh hummus with greens that they removed when they came to the new location. That definitely made me sad. read more

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, I would definitely consider this a "fish shack" rather than a restaurant, but it's a fantastic one at that! This is definitely something you would see down the shore, but thankfully it's much closer to home! This weekend was my first experience at the Blue Fish (and it won't be my last). My friend had been itching to get me to try it since I'm in love with fish tacos pretty much everywhere they has them. From here was no exception- they are just great! We came on a Friday evening and since they don't take reservations there was a wait. It's BYOB, so we just asked for cups while we waited and sat in the lawn. There's no real designated waiting space, except one bench inside, so there's a lot of people milling around or sitting on the curb or across the driveway on the lawn, like us. Putting our name on the list was the only look I got at the interior, which seemed small and sparse to me. But no negative stars since the food just makes up for it! We sat outside and fought off flies and gnats- it would be nice if they set out citronella candles or something- but otherwise it was great. We ordered fried calamari for an app and two different fish tacos for dinner with fires (thin cut) and chips (homemade, I believe) respectively. The rolls of paper towels on the tables are useful and the malt vinegar is perfect on both the fries and chips! The calamari and tacos were just fantastic. The homemade tarter sauce is excellent and the cole slaw is vinegar based, I didn't taste any mayo. But, be warned, if you're like me and prefer crunchy tacos- they don't exist here! You cannot get a hard shell taco. Oh well. The service was lacking a little bit. They seem to be all high school age girls. It was a bit hard to flag them down (asked twice for a glass of water) and a little slow overall, but we were in no rush. So if you're up for a relaxed meal with a good (reasonably priced, since you bring it!) drink and tasty food, this is a place I would recommend! read more

I have been a patron of this place since it first opened. Prior to their move, they had decent food at an unbeatable price. However, after they moved to their current location, the quality of their food has declined sharply. Its obvious that success has ruined this once quaint local restaurant. I cant recommend this place any more. Update on (8/1/2016) - I've seen significant improvement in both the consistency, quality and variety from this place. I think that they suffered a bit when they first moved to their new location. I think they have now recovered from their initial "success". I am giving them an upgraded score. read more

Blue Fish is an "off the beaten path" place that I was happy to find! Its BYOB, so you save on overpriced restaurant wine :) The food, is very very good. Its not the best I've ever eaten, but its also not super expensive. That's a great combination. They have an outdoor seating area which is great in the nice weather! On the weekends, its crowded, so plan accordingly! They offer takeout if you wish to skip the wait. The decor is very simple, they don't try to be pretentious. The menu changed in the last year, and some of the popular items like the fish tacos are no longer on the menu. The seafood here is some of the best I've ever had! I really like the tacos and the mussels! My brother and I love the restaurant and we go at least every month together. The staff is very nice too and they are always pretty attentive to us. I highly recommend getting a special because those are always amazing! You have to bring your own beer though, but my brother and one of my friends prefer that because restaurants usually don't carry the beer they like. read more
