Service was a little odd, but the meal more than made up for it! Appetizer highlights were the shrimp cocktail "ceviche" with tortilla chips and the fried calamari. Gotta give it up to the calamri as it wasn't too heavily breaded, the dipping sauce was tangy (think an improved tartar with capers), and it included small fried banana peppers as well. For entrees, I'd have to say the salmon was grilled to perfection and the fisch tacos were plump and crispy. A cole slaw came with each which was obviously freshly shredded that day. It's also BYOB here so be sure to bring a big ole bottle of white wine to accompany your fish! read more

Seriously delicious food, I've never had a disapointing meal here. Totally recommend the kale Caesar salad appetizer, and I love all their twists on "old favorites" in their menu. Staff is friendly and attentive, even when it gets super hectic (it's a popular place and can get pretty crowded, reservations are recommended). When it's warm, the outdoor seating option is nice. We went here for my nephews birthday party. It was a great place. Big room, we had 12 people at our table so it was big. Everyone was able to get what they wanted. My nephew got to eat cake. They changed locations to a new place a few years ago. The food is great, presentation was sub par. The price was also on the expensive side. They used to serve with paper plates and Plastic utensils. Very weak presentation and honestly over priced. This place is very small, and if you come on a weekend, you'll likely have to wait a short time for a table. The atmosphere is very casual and cozy; however, the floor's often a bit sticky, and the decor isn't particularly eye-catching (thought it is fun!). Their seafood is fresh and delicious, their portion sizes are hearty, and they often have interesting specials. During my last trip, I had a shark burrito; it's not something I would have considered, but it was so good: fresh, tender, flavorful. Also, they have very good key lime pie! read more

Quick takeout and fresh food that is just the right serving size. I don't know about other reviewers, but I find their food tasty and hot. Perhaps if you are used to the overly salty artificial food of TGIF or Applebees you will find this food toned down. The one complaint that I have is that they way under-built the air conditioning in the summer and the restaurant is very warm. They told me when I was there that they knew about the problem in the summer and were working with the land lord to find a way to rectify the issue. I find their service to be really very excellent and quite prompt. They are well versed on the menu/specials as well as offering recommendations that they have actually had. One request that I have is that they add back the veggie sandwich and not just have a veggie burger. They used to have a sandwich with grilled vegetables and fresh hummus with greens that they removed when they came to the new location. That definitely made me sad. read more

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, I would definitely consider this a "fish shack" rather than a restaurant, but it's a fantastic one at that! This is definitely something you would see down the shore, but thankfully it's much closer to home! This weekend was my first experience at the Blue Fish (and it won't be my last). My friend had been itching to get me to try it since I'm in love with fish tacos pretty much everywhere they has them. From here was no exception- they are just great! We came on a Friday evening and since they don't take reservations there was a wait. It's BYOB, so we just asked for cups while we waited and sat in the lawn. There's no real designated waiting space, except one bench inside, so there's a lot of people milling around or sitting on the curb or across the driveway on the lawn, like us. Putting our name on the list was the only look I got at the interior, which seemed small and sparse to me. But no negative stars since the food just makes up for it! We sat outside and fought off flies and gnats- it would be nice if they set out citronella candles or something- but otherwise it was great. We ordered fried calamari for an app and two different fish tacos for dinner with fires (thin cut) and chips (homemade, I believe) respectively. The rolls of paper towels on the tables are useful and the malt vinegar is perfect on both the fries and chips! The calamari and tacos were just fantastic. The homemade tarter sauce is excellent and the cole slaw is vinegar based, I didn't taste any mayo. But, be warned, if you're like me and prefer crunchy tacos- they don't exist here! You cannot get a hard shell taco. Oh well. The service was lacking a little bit. They seem to be all high school age girls. It was a bit hard to flag them down (asked twice for a glass of water) and a little slow overall, but we were in no rush. So if you're up for a relaxed meal with a good (reasonably priced, since you bring it!) drink and tasty food, this is a place I would recommend! read more

I have been a patron of this place since it first opened. Prior to their move, they had decent food at an unbeatable price. However, after they moved to their current location, the quality of their food has declined sharply. Its obvious that success has ruined this once quaint local restaurant. I cant recommend this place any more. Update on (8/1/2016) - I've seen significant improvement in both the consistency, quality and variety from this place. I think that they suffered a bit when they first moved to their new location. I think they have now recovered from their initial "success". I am giving them an upgraded score. read more

Blue Fish is an "off the beaten path" place that I was happy to find! Its BYOB, so you save on overpriced restaurant wine :) The food, is very very good. Its not the best I've ever eaten, but its also not super expensive. That's a great combination. They have an outdoor seating area which is great in the nice weather! On the weekends, its crowded, so plan accordingly! They offer takeout if you wish to skip the wait. The decor is very simple, they don't try to be pretentious. The menu changed in the last year, and some of the popular items like the fish tacos are no longer on the menu. You're in BFE, NJ so I won't knock the fact this place has all the charm and style of a Gap outlet store....which, is conveniently nearby in case you're looking for some lunch and then a great deal on brightly colored socks. I had the fish tacos and they were decent. It was like 4 days ago I ate here and I honestly can't even remember what they looked or tasted like but I don't remember thinking they sucked so...A-OK! Don't get the chips. The fries are legit and delicious. The waitress was really sweet and welcoming but then tried to tell me that people war back and forth on which is better, the chips or the fries. I came here on a Friday or Saturday, our server was super knowledgeable about the specials and overall restaurant itself. It did take awhile to get seated and get water but it was a busy night and we didn't mind! My boyfriend had the salmon and rice, I had the curried crawfish and shrimp special. If your looking for a place to go after shopping at the outlets than you are in luck! The outlets are a culinary wasteland however this little gem is literally steps away from the shops. I finally dined there this past Saturday after reading reviews for months on this place and it was well worth it. We ordered the fish and chips and the infamous fish tacos. Didn't know what to expect but I figured it had to be something good after reading the reviews. The fish and chips arrived and we got three large filets of fish. The beer batter was light and not greasy at all. Fish inside was moist and delicious. I ordered the wahoo fish tacos and was surprised when I saw the two huge tacos that arrived before me. The only complaint I have was that it was lacking the crema that the menu said it had or maybe I just wanted more. Also, in one of my bites the wahoo was kind of dry, but that was just one piece so it may have been the thin part or something. We also ordered the homemade chips based on the reviews here but they didn't live up to the hype :(! It may have been the time we went as they didn't seem to be super fresh. Overall a great place. This is a very bare bones place so don't expect any frills or whatnot. However, it is definitely an asset to Flemington! read more

The fish tacos are great but I'm always a fan of getting the Caesar salad with some type of grilled fish. They always have great specials too. My first & second visits here were both 5-star worthy. I'll write about my second. I had the special which was a "wet burrito" stuffed with salmon, black beans, rice, jalapeño & guacamole. Then smothered in a red enchilada sauce. The flavors were just amazing. The salmon had some really great grilled flavor all by itself. The rice (I'm a rice snob) was cooked perfectly. Not one thing overpowered another. The enchilada sauce was divine. If I had a spoon... My honey also had the special which was mojo seafood. It was mussels, shrimp & scallops "piled high" (just as our waiter described it) in a red garlic sauce. It came with grilled bread which was perfect for slopping up the garlic sauce. It was out-of-this-world good! The sauce had perfect slivers of garlic that we both ate alone & they melted in our mouths. So, so good! Oh yes, I had a delicious cream soda too! We've been to Blue Fish Grill twice, and it's safe to say that we will be going back. Especially in the warmer weather to sit outside, after an afternoon of roaming the outlets. Pros- Crab cake sandwhich. it's just awesome. I really love the bun that it's on and that red pepper sauce. Came here with my girlfriend this past weekend while visiting my mom who just moved to the area. We chose BFG for lunch simply because we were starving and it was nearby. And we couldn't be happier we did. Our waiter Karim was awesome. Super friendly and genuine. We were seated quickly outside and it was a beautiful day. Karim opened our wine for us and we browsed the menu. With so many intriguing options we decided to risk it all and just split three apps. Well that risk paid off. We got the kung pao chicken, black bean plantain empanadas and the ahi tuna nachos. The empanadas we not your traditional style. The plain rain was the dough and it was soft and sweet. Although not being like a normal empanada, I really enjoyed this different treat. The king pao chicken was also very good. Small pieces of dark meat, friend to the perfect crunch and the sauce had just enough kick to it. Finally, the ahi tuna nachos. This is the best thing I've eaten in months. Raw ahi tuna over wonton chips with a bomb wasabi aoli and sesame chili ponzu. The chips were crispy and tuna tasted fresh and smooth. The seasons chili and wasabi aoli brought a nice kick. The dish was a refreshing take on nachos and I recommend it to anyone who comes here A beautiful experience for our first outing in Flemington.
