Remember we are in Rome GA! This is currently the best Japanese restaurant in the area and boldly deserves four stars. Sushi: good variety, and fresh (as fresh as it can be in GA) Service: the couple of dozen times I've eaten here I've never had bad service or slow, even on a busy night. Fried rice is not no die for, but tasty. Veggies (in the stir fry): I love my veggies but these taste like shredded bagged veggies. Based on the large group of work people I was here with (we sat in the special side room where you have to take your shoes off and you sit in the recessed area, it was kind of cool) I can tell you that their cooked food options were pretty much a hit, and their sushi was only so-so. So, short recommendation? Order hot food. Not sushi. To be more detailed I got their hibachi which was DELICIOUS, I wish I had ordered the steak rare because even when I said medium it was a little too cooked for my tastes, but for thin pieces it's hard to cook to order. The chicken was delicious as well. Their rice was super yummy and I was definitely a fan of the soup/salad it came with. Other yummy things - calamari (everyone commented on how delicious it was), crab rangoons, salmon, a shrimp tempura dish, etc. The drinks were also very popular with a lot of my coworkers, but you'll definitely pay for it! $8 for a large beer, yeesh! read more

Not at all happy with the hibachi. Had the fillet,shrimp and scallops. Fillet was tough with no flavor, shrimp were Ok, scallops was pretty good but the rice was awful. For the money I paid, this was a poor deal. I will not be back. read more

This Is NOT a Sashimi restaurant. I was disappointed especially after it being recommended. They do have other dishes that looked good. I sat at the Sushi bar, but there was no Japanese sushi chef but rather 2 very nice gentlemen who did not carry the pride of the craft of being a Sushi Chef. They were not familiar nor carry a few Sushi condiments nor one of my favorite, IKA/squid . I ordered salmon skin hand roll, it usually comes with rice which I don't prefer and omit. I asked to have other veggies and waitress said they don't do that. They didn't put any veggies not even masago. Obviously she mis-understood my order. Hand roll was the worse I've ever had, and the lack of Japanese pride deflated the whole Sashimi Japanese spirit of the chef craft wanting to please the customer and show off their expertise. read more

So I eat at Blue Fin on average at least once a week. The menu is pretty standard for this type of restaurant at Lunch. I always order the shrimp hibachi lunch, pad Thai, basil noodles, or split the 3 tool special with my husband. It all taste fine. I'm giving them 4 stars instead or 5 because I feel like the lunch menu is very limited. I wish they had some of the dinner appetizers on the lunch menu. I love sushi, but there aren't many places in this area to get it. I was so glad when I stumbled onto Bluefin! The interior is nice and clean, but I wish they had more than one bathroom available for each sex, especially since they're so busy. Anyway, the food was great. At lunch, you can pick two sushi rolls from a list for $8.95. I chose the super crunch roll and the rocker roll. Both were excellent. The super crunch roll contained crunchy tempura and was topped with shrimp, and the rocker roll was packed with avocado, tuna, salmon, and crab. After I ordered, I also received a a little bowl of soup and some salad. As usual, I drank hot tea. I wanted more, but my server was absent for a really long time, so I didn't get any. My hubby and I just recently became sushi fanatics--driving many a mile to experience the range of sushi flavors in Georgia & Tennessee. Out of the many places we have visited, this was the least fresh and most unpleasant of the bunch. The decor was beautiful--so I had high hopes for Bluefin Sushi. We ordered 3 different sushi rolls--The Surf & Turf, Zen, and Samurai. Upon arrival at our table, the smell of unfresh fish quickly took over. I decided to try it out anyway--and it was terrible. Not only were each of the rolls a strange texture, but it was all at a nasty room temperature! My husband, who has never experienced food poisoning, had a rather rough night after dining here! Not shockingly the BEST sushi you can find in Rome, GA. Though it's hard for me to be a sushi critic, as I'm only as adventurous as I want to be, I will say that I have frequently had pleasant experiences at this restaurant. Points of honesty: 1. Probably one of the better, affordable, NON-chain restaurants in Rome. 2. Therefore, it's mostly always packed. 3. They're willing to work with seating arrangements to have large parties- but it doesn't end up feeling like a sweaty Longhorn Steakhouse meal. 4. Sushi and dinner meals are well-presented varieties of plates, cute bento-boxes. This gives the food a bit of life. Don't we always like to wonder... "Ooh what's on the plate?" Done. 5. a BIT pricey, I usually end up spending around 20-25 dollars on a roll (for instance, specialty Dragon roll 8-pc.) miso, and a glass of wine. 6. Don't attempt to bring your own wine, they're a little worrisome about corking, and it's not worth the hassle. read more

I feel like BlueFin has gone down-hill in recent years. As a Roman native, I remember it first opening and it was "the happening" restaurant for many years. The service was fast, the sushi was good and the prices were decent. Since then, the prices have not changed, but the quality has. The ambiance is just fine. They have redone the restaurant in recent years. There are now booths (instead of the tables that they used to only have), they have an updated wall color (tiffany blue), and new artwork. It is very aesthetically pleasing. The hibachi menu is lacking. I feel as if you could get the same quality of food elsewhere for a lesser price (especially at dinner where you are looking to pay around $14 for chicken). Very overpriced for not a lot of food and not great quality either. The ginger salad dressing is severely watered down and almost wilts the lettuce after sitting in front of you for a few minutes. The soup is very salty, but still tasty, and the vegetables that come with the hibachi are so finely cut that they almost resemble a veggie mash. The rice has almost no seasoning and sometimes can seem overcooked. For as long as this restaurant has been in business, you would think that they would have this down to a science, but alas, I am almost always disappointed when I eat here. The service is lacking, the food quality is lacking and for the price, I think a cook-in-front-of-you hibachi restaurant would be a better option. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I'm glad I decided to stop in early for lunch as there were folks waiting by the time I finished. When I arrived at 11:30a.m., just as the lunch seating began, I was warmly greeted and promptly seated. My server, Matt W., took my drink order as I browsed the menu and promptly returned and helped with my selections. I selected the Mongolian Beef which included a Ginger Salad and Miso Soup and a two-fer sushi special that included a Spicy Tuna roll and Yumi-Yumi roll. The salad and soup came first and both were a good start to my meal. The salad did stand out a bit due to the wonderful in-house made Ginger dressing, not too overpowering, good full flavor with a hint of orange made for a well balanced taste. My rolls were next to the table and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount on the plate. The Spicy Tuna had a wonderful fresh flavor with just a hint of spice to accentuate the fish not over power it. My favorite though was the Yumi-Yumi. Rich full flavors fill this roll from the center to the deep fried crust, yes deep fried crust. The spice of the fish along with the veggies work extremely well in this wrap then deep fried with an almost non existent tempura batter topped with a pair of complementing sauces. My Mongolian Beef was served last and did not disappoint. A dark rich sauce incorporated the tender cuts of beef and onion with just a touch of sweet which worked well to balance the taste of soy.. My family loves japanese hibachi grilled food and we both think Blue Fin is best. Don't expect a table side chef, but what you will get is great japanese food for a reasonable price. The ginger dressing is sweet and tart. The meat tender and cooked in a sweet teriyaki sauce. The vegetables are shredded and stemmed soft in butter. We've been here a total of 3 times now. The last 2 visits were definitely better than this recent one. The host seated us immediately but she dropped our menus off and disappeared without saying anything. We waited about 15 minutes before a waiter came by to take our drink order. We didn't even learn his name until we received the check at the end. David wasn't very welcoming and barely said much of anything. I couldn't understand anything he mumbled. The sushi we ordered seemed as though it had been sitting out for a awhile before they served it to us. Went here with friends when I was visiting town and was a bit trepidatious because I don't do sushi. But there was nothing to worry about because the Hibachi Fillet Mignon I had was excellent. It was tasty and cooked perfectly. The vegetables that came with it were a little unusual (cabbage and broccoli mostly with some of the usual zucchini and onion mixed in) but that was easily forgiven in the light of the rest of the plate. I've eaten here before, and I understand some places have an "off" night on occasion but this was a friends birthday outing and I wanted it to be delicious and it was very mediocre. The ginger salad was more like soup, swimming in the miso dressing. The fried rice had an old pasty texture too it and our dessert, the vanilla roll, was not fresh and the whip cream and ice cream was melted. I fly all over the country. LA, New York, Seattle, Washington DC, Las Vegas and Houston to name just a few. I was shocked to find a restaurant of this caliber in Rome, Georgia. All the sushi has been excellant. My favorites are spicy tuna, spicy salmon and the Dragon Rolls. If you are looking for a great food experience, look no further. The wait staff and management are friendly and professional. The food is very consistant and very high in quality. Tonight was Thursday, and the place was packed, but the service was great. I take my wife and five children as often as twice a week. Great food, service and best of all they are in Rome. We will keep coming back. read more

I was actually a little disappointed with this restaurant. Although the food wasn't bad it wasn't great either. We had the Kirin beer, hot sake, crunchy tuna, spicy tuna roll, and the Manhattan toll. I found that the spicy tuna roll was not that great and the Manhattan roll was a little bland and tasteless's. the best part of the whole meal was the appetizers that we had off fried calamari and crab Rangoon and the hot sake as well as the deer was also good. I have been there twice and the first time was okay, decent waitstaff and average food. The second time was awful. The water was dirty, a roach crawled across our table and we caught it and told the waitress. She moved us to the table right next to it and didn't do anything else about it. They then proceeded to brush the still alive roach onto the floor and let it run off. After that we basically didn't see the waitress except to give us our check. The miso soup also sucks. read more

If you are planning to go here please don't expect as highly as we did for it to be good. Well where do I start...... Ah... Maybe that the place is so crammed that you almost touch elbows with the tables next to you? When I saw the reviews for BlueFin, at 5 stars and explaining its the best sushi place 4 years in a row I got very excited. So when my Dad visited from Minnesota I took him there because his favorite thing in the world is sushi, he will spend hundreds just on himself on fine dinning sushi. We both got our hopes up for sure. The food quality was good, as was the sushi. But it was sub-par, nothing different then any other chain restaurant. Nothing special or different about it to make it the best sushi.... BUT the thing that makes me give it 2 stars was the unskilled sushi cheff.... Oh gosh.... how do I even say this..... The man they had to cut and serve the sushi, was well.... lets just say under-knowledged . The fish&octopus sashimi we odered was fresh but...uh....totally cut wrong. almost hacked. I'll use this as an example for how all our sushi/sashimi came... Our salmon sashimi was so thick we had to cut it with a fork.... when it should be thin enough to lay across your tongue.... and on and on with the other cuts we received. I'd say if your going to claim your the best and 5 star quality at least have a sushi cheff trained in the art of sushi cutting.....not some amateur who is just hacking up the fish... (which ruins its flavor) And the service was, meh. Our waiter was very nice and helpful but the poor guy had to take care of the whole restaurant with only one other female sever....so understaffed that it made it bad... So If you are planning to go here please don't expect as highly as we did for it to be good. read more

The food is very good and very good service; however, they are open until 10 pm, and this was the second time we arrived at 8:30. ( Owner was present. ) We were seated immediately, ordered quickly, and were paying full menu price. At 9 pm they began "pre-closing", seated everyone on one side of dining room, and began cleaning and mopping the other side. Their mop water has so much chlorine in it it takes your breath. Both times we have asked if they could wait and we received a negative response. Bottom line - we were in the middle of our dinner, paying full price, and were forced to leave an hour before their closing because of their thinking more of their mopping than their customers. One of our favorite go-to restaurants in Rome when we want to treat ourselves. On a spin bavk through town in the summer, we met one of our students here and between the three of us tried several of our favorite entrees one again. My wife nearly always orders the basil chicken stir fry noodles, and I nearly always order the large scorpion roll. No disappointments there--delicious! Our student ordered the rib eye hibachi, which admittedly looked, smelled and tasted great, and may become a new favorite in the coming months. My husband and I have eaten here so many times it would difficult to count. We have enjoyed each and every visit. Our favorites are the Manhattan Roll, the Volcano Roll and the Sumo Hibachi dinner that we always split. Last week we ate there on a Monday and were pleased to find they have a special on Monday and Tuesday evenings for the Hibachi dinners. We had the Steak for $9.95 or $9.99, can't remember which. It was delicious and we plan to return for our anniversary. Very nice for two retired folks to enjoy a nice dinner without breaking the bank. Also, my husband says the wine is always good. read more
