I love the OG Cafe Neon. I stop by for coffee on my way to work several times a week - tbh they are one of 2 decent places to grab a latte in the Junction Triangle/Bloordale area. I love having breakfast there, yes I said breakfast, I get up too early to wait around for "brunch" and again they are open early enough for me not to starve. I have a few food restrictions - no dairy and the things I get still taste super good without cheese or butter. My friends and I could eat their Neon Breakfast Sandwiches all day! The only complaint I have are their "giant beans" I always order them as my side and they are always have that mealy/dry texture. It's almost like the beans havent reabsorbed enough liquid during the cooking. By the flavours of the tomato sauce is very nice - In no way am I say they are bad, I just always hope for a little more from them! I know the new location on Queen is getting the buzz but I don't want anyone to ignore this location! read more

Awesome brunch. One of the best in the city, even. Sat at the bar and enjoyed some salt cod fish cakes and eggs Benedict. The Bernaise sauce comes on the side, which is a great touch if you'd like to not smother your food in it (or if you like to dunk your bacon). Perfect portion size and great coffee. Had such good food and service that we came back every morning of our trip. Food was great, had a pulled pork sandwich with an onion bun and a burger with bacon which I thoroughly enjoyed. What really brought us back though was Hillary. She has a very warm genuine demeanor and personality. If we had a issue it was resolved and within minutes. Hillary made us feel very welcome and at home and by the second day we felt like regulars. Will definitely stop by next time we are in town! read more

If I could give them 0 for service and 5 for food, I would. The food was excellent, the service was both surly and inept. The server we had did a huge disservice to the talented chef. Actual conversation with the waiter: Me: What is butterbean sausage? Him: It is a type of sausage. Me: .... Him: Sausage. This is not nearly as helpful as he might think it was. The soup came *after* the main course. Like 10 minutes after, not even together with the main course by any stretch. The coffee came without a spoon, even after I asked for cream. I was drinking decaf and asked for a refill - and got non-decaf. I had to ask for a saucer for used tea bags, and then I had to justify asking for it. Again, excellent food. The potatoes are great, and I absolutely love the salad. When people care that much about the side dishes, you know the mains are top notch. But the service was almost hilariously bad. Great brunch spot on the weekends! Food is delicious - particularly the home fries. Service is always pleasant. Space is open and bright. You can usually get a table when you arrive, although there is limited seating. It really is a unique spot and also somewhat secluded location. You will need to plan to come here as it's a bit out of the way. read more

Coffee is good but sometimes it comes cold. Food is tasty but I find it a little overpriced. Guess that's what you pay for better quality ingredients. To me it always depends on who's serving - sometimes they are welcoming, other times not so much. read more

Came here for brunch and had eggs benny and omelette. The food was decent and the prices were good. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. I wouldn't come out of the way to eat here but if you want a decent brunch place in the neighbourhood, it's definitely worth checking out! read more

The cafe is bright and roomy, with simple and artsy decor. I've had their catering food a few times, it's delicious but quite pricy for the small portion. I've tried the matcha latte at the cafe, and it was a bit watery. Would like to come back to try their brunch some other time. read more

Decent coffee and the staff are fun. Food is pretty good but soups are a bit hit and miss. The chicken club sandwich is great as is the kale salad. Neon makes a mean croissant and I am super picky - flaky and buttery very good! Service can be a bit slow so have patience. read more

Cafe and restaurant serving very good breakfast and brunch on the border of Bloordale and the Junction Triangle. Tucked away across from Ubisoft Toronto and a storage facility, part of a strip of new-ish businesses in a repurposed brick industrial building. An array of well salted and well priced breakfast sandwiches, equally compelling at the table and packed up for take-out. Enormously better for brunch than the Starving Artist around the corner on Lansdowne -- better food and coffee, no marauding wasps and a less hectic atmosphere. Everything we have eaten there has been really good if not stand-out excellent. A sure bet. read more

Adorable cafe with great atmosphere and a good vibe. Coffee was great - they have both drip and espresso based drinks. A good assortment of teas and other beverages. Lovely treats, including a vegan and sugar free earl grey oat bar (YES!!!). they serve breakfast and lunch and the menu has sandwiches, salads, quiche etc. Lots of sitting room, a large window for people watching a really sweet staff! Café Neon is literally right in front of my office soo i admit it, I go almost every day. I love the coffee (there's no Starbucks around) and the quiches. The crust is actually made of Quinoa sooo that means extra protein. My ultimate fav is the nicoise! A little pricey but great food. read more

Really nice place in a great new area. I live at Wallace and Symington and this place is a breath of fresh air. I had the Chicken Waldorf sandwich (which was great) and a regular coffee (which was also delicious). Will be making many more visits at Cafe Neon. Check it out! read more

Cafe Neon is my favourite brunch place near my house, and for good reason: free wifi, lots of seating, cool music to groove to during brunch, the best jam I've ever eaten, great coffee, and lots of menu options to accommodate my dietary restrictions. My only bone of contention: the service. I went here for brunch today, and it was a bit later than usual, so me and my group ended up at a table out of the sight line of the front counter and most of the tables. It was busy, and for a while there was just one server, and she seemed pretty frazzled. She quickly took our orders and asked us if we wanted to refillable coffee. Then she disappeared for about 20 minutes. I had to go to the counter and ask for our coffees, and they finally arrived 10 minutes later, but not before our server spilled one on our table, which I felt badly about -- she was stressed. Our food came soon after, but my friend quickly realized he was missing half of his order. By that point another server had started her shift, and we let her know what was missing, and off she went to the kitchen to get it. A few minutes later, our first server came by to ask what was missing. Then the other server came by again, and told us that the missing items were on their way. By this point, we were all pretty frustrated. Finally, about 15 minutes later, the food came, we grumpily ate, and asked for the bill. The guy behind the counter came by to apologize for the poor service and then our server also came by and apologized profusely, explaining that the kitchen was backed up today. It didn't change the confusion or frustration of the last hour -- they obviously need to be better staffed during brunch hours, and it sounds like their kitchen is disorganized -- but their acknowledgment and apology certainly made the whole experience a bit better, and it made me decide to come back again. read more

As residents of the Junction Triangle we were interested in this place - really hoping they'd have some solid espresso etc. On our first, and only, visit here, we (mom, dad, toddler) were initially pleasantly surprised that they were open, had a reasonable board of food on top of cafe fare and were actually licensed. However things went quickly downhill from there. We ordered a latte, an americano and a simple pastry basket to share. The coffees came quickly but 10 minutes later and no pastry basket. You surely just need to pick a few, cut 'em up, put them in a basket and bring them to the table. After fruitlessly trying to get the attention of our harried server (they were quite busy - only one server on the floor) I decided I'd ask to see how the pastries were coming on my return from using their ATM at the back (they currently only accept cash, not the best customer service decision to start with, especially when they charge two bucks per transaction at the machine AND are saving money per transaction by not accepting debit or credit of any kind - "the owner of this establishment, Cafe Neon, charges $2 per transaction", hmmm...but I digress). As it turns out, our server and I met up at the ATM and I asked how the pastries were coming. She replied icily with "they're in the line, as you can see we're very busy here". She then, crazily, asked me "would you like me to cancel your order?". I had a hungry toddler and I surmised it shouldn't be much longer now for one small little pastry basket so I replied, cheekily, "no, are you baking them fresh?". To which the server replied "What would you like me to do?" Not caring to engage any further in this silly and reckless game of "the customer is never right" I brushed past this now nearly combative woman and said, incredulously, "just order it!". Well, the pastry basket arrived to our table maybe a couple minutes later, and was dumped unceremoniously at our table with intent by said server. A few minutes later, the bill was literally thrown at my partner, again with no discussion. Wow. Sorry. But it shouldn't take even a busy little coffee shop / resto close to 15 minutes to pick a few mediocre pastries from the pantry, cut them in half and bring them to our table. Clearly there's dysfunction along the line in this place as the orders just go in and there seems to be no division of labour between server and kitchen to handle these types of basic requests - felt like a brewing "not my department" kind of thing coming from our server. Basic word to the wise - don't lay your problems on your customers - particularly shiny new faces like ours who would have gladly returned had we been treated with simple respect and decorum. Now we'll just spread the bad news; I'm sure management will approve. We will never return and will now post this same complaint directly to the fine folks at Cafe Neon as well as anywhere else we can. In a city this big and with such exemplary options available everywhere for anything this type of attitude is akin to commercial suicide. Horrible experience. Naive and self-important service overshadowed our entire, potentially, good experience. LAME. read more

Are you going to the west end of the city? If you are, you have to check out this lovely coffee shop. The coffee is great, the food is prepared with detail and care. The bathroom is spotless and the atmosphere is great. This is one of my favourite places on the west side. Love it! read more

Driving around looking for breakfast at 7:40 and decided to stop by only to find them still closed. We were told by the girl at the counter that they'd open at 8. we waited despite the sign clearly saying open at 7:30. Went in at just past 8 only to be told their sandwich selection wasn't ready yet. We ordered breakfast - no poached eggs, weekends only, no selection on toast - baguette only - ok we'll have that then. Food arrived - eggs were hard in the middle and sunny-side up after I'd asked for over easy, and bacon looked more like 3 measly circles of shaved ham. To their credit the salad and presentation were nice, but the overall experience was not worth the wait. I'll give it to them - they've got nice decor, if only I could eat their decor. read more

I stopped here about an hour before close to snag a drink with my indie coffee passport. Cafe Neon has a variety of tea and coffee drinks (including a drink that mixes coke and espresso. what!?), break-fasty cocktails, and a selection of brunch dishes like breakfast wraps, yogurt, oatmeal, and bagels. I stuck with a tea, which was fine. The big communal table at the window was a great, well-lit place to relax. I'll definitely come back. read more

Coffee is always great, and so is the staff however their food has gone way way down hill. I bought many ( call me a sucker for punishment) muffins out of convenience from Neon, and each time they get older and drier, yet I still have 6 payments left on them, super expensive. read more

I come here because the food is good and fast, the menu is varied and affordable, the coffee is good, and the space is nice, but the service here is something you should be embarrassed about. Your employees will instruct people to sit down for table service if they want to dine in and then they'll take so long to go over that people have to get up and go to the counter only to be told again they'll come over to take an order. It's happened to me numerous times and I've seen it happen to other guests as well. When guests do finally get some attention it goes more like "what do you want?" or "have you ordered yet" rather than "hey how are you" and then once your servers take the order and bring the food out they never come back to the table. I came in for brunch a couple months ago and my friend and I ordered mimosas and we were intending on having a second round but the server never returned to the table and in the end I had to go up to the counter to ask for the bill and we didn't have time to enjoy a pastry or another drink after our meal because we'd waited so long. That's another 25$ in sales you missed out on for the same seating. This is par for the course with service here. Your cafe needs proper steps of service to ensure that a) people coming in know what to expect in terms of how they will be served, b) that they are not being scolded/corrected for approaching the counter because of ridiculous wait times and c) that they are being checked on when they are done eating so that they don't have to get up to order another coffee or pay the bill after being abrasively told to sit down at a table when they come in. Plz fix this because your cafe is cute and everything else about it is great!!!!! read more
