I decided to book Blowout Junkie for my bridal party hair. I initially emailed them per their website request to get something started but I also just booked 7 appointments for the morning of my wedding through the phone just in case. It was good I did that because no one responded to my email and I was on a crunch with my wedding 2 weeks away. I probably called an additional 2 times before the wedding day to ensure my appointments were still on the calendar and to confirm the artists. They were able to have 3 stylists so the day started at 7:45AM until 10:00AM. Blowouts include a wash for $55 and Updos don't include a wash and are $95. Everyone was on time which was great. We had 2 blowouts and 5 updos for the party. I think everyone's hair looked great. There was one auntie that was not happy about her updo (but she didn't voice it) so I don't blame the hair stylist on that and believe that the stylist would have fixed it had she said anything. It's important to note (with any stylist) to bring lots of examples of what you want so the stylist knows or to bring photos of ideas and they can choose what might look best for you. Easily the best blowout I've ever had, and I've had many! My hair is coarse, curly, and unruly, and Makayla gave me smooth, shiny, and straight. And the best part? It lasted days without a touch up. I didn't even need to take a flat iron to the ends after working out, sleeping, or getting caught in the rain. Makayla was also a delight at 7:45 in the morning. Checking in was super easy, I had Precious and she did an AMAZING job!! Normally it's hard for me to find a stylist who can get a curl to last in my hair but she did! I was able to keep the pins in for an extra $10 which is reasonable, and even after walking around the city on a windy night and a long sleep my hair still held up and looks adorable:) My favorite part was how gentle she was with my hair, no pulling or roughness while blowing out, would definitely recommend! read more

Dulce was my hair stylist. my hair usually runs flat and i asked for minimal product. she made the blowout very voluminous and by the time the event came around that evening, my hair was the perfect amount of volume and style. Blowout Junkie? Is that your name? Ha! Then I knew it was going to be a perfect fit as I think I am a blowout junkie as I get my hair blown out a couple of times a week given all the presentations and events that I have to go to in my line of work. I was a little early for my appointment, but Luz was ready for me and soon I was in her chair showing her how I wanted my hair done for an event that night. She listened to what I said and then took me to the bowl and gave me a nice shampoo. I liked the "trick" at the end where she somehow wound my hair up in a towel (not the regular turban way) which allowed me to walk to her chair while some of the moisture was squeezed out of my hair. I have a good haircut so most are able to get the volume I need during a blow dry, but I also liked the way Luz curled and clipped the crown to give it a little extra boost while she dried the rest of my head. 45 minutes later I walked out with shining locks, tons of body and a hair style that held up through the night and even into the next day. Priced at $45, this was in line with other blow drys I have had. And I love the convenience of making appointments on line. I actually made this appointment on the plane flying to Chicago and you should make an appointment as this place is busy and you don't want to be disappointed. Given I live in the area, I'm thrilled that Blowout Junkie is nearby as I'm a gal that likes to have good looking hair all the time! You can bet I'll be back! read more

So I was in town to be part of a dear childhood friend's wedding. The wedding was on a Friday evening and the bride asked us all to be ready for our make up sessions by 930am. So if we were getting our hair done it should be done super early! AKA at the crack of dawn. We were staying at the W hotel the week of the wedding and to my dismay I couldn't find a hair salon near the hotel that opened any earlier than 10am. I hopped on yelp and found blowout junkie. They opened at 7am and had decent reviews, so I said why not! The day of the wedding, i jumped into a taxi. Less than 2 miles and 5min later I was at blow out junkie on Madison. The salon was clean, airy and empty! I was probably the first client of the day , it was after all 7am. As I walked in I was greeted hello by the girl at the front desk. Who checked me in and offered me a beverage. There were a few girls standing off near by just kinda waiting??? They stood standing there my entire appointment, with kinda blah/uninterested/gawkinga looks on their faces. Made me a bit uncomfortable. The hair stylist came over to me and I was told to have a seat in the first chair. When I sat down the stylist asked me what I was looking to do. No personable introduction, no smile, just straight to business. Okay maybe it was early and she didn't have her coffee yet? But I feel i this line of work some "chair-side manners" are must! You want your clients to feel welcomed and to come back again. I explain to her I was part of a wedding, and wanted either A. glam retro 20s look or B. Just a simple sleek blowout (the easier of the two). I liked the retro look better but I stressed to her how important it was to me that the look hold! The wedding was in the evening at 6pm and the curls really needed to hold up through out the day. I also told her she could use as much product necessary to make sure it held together. She said okay. No problem. She explained exactly what the hairstyle entails and went to work. I have long thick wavy/curly hair that touches my lower back. The stylist washed, blow dried and began curling my hair in no time. Before I knew it I was done. About an hour, that was pretty good timing. I'm use to sitting at the salon for a minimum of 2 hrs back home, for only a blow out. I wanted a lot of volume at the front where my hair parted and pushed over to the side. The stylist said my hair was "too heavy" and I couldn't get any more volume. I was pleased with the efficiency and overall style, so I said fine. I said a little prayer and hoped she used enough hairspray and product that my hair would hold. $40 and a very generous tip later I was well underway with my day. The day consisted of makeup and getting dressed and taking photos for the wedding. Nothing laborious, other pouring mimosas all morning. Needless to say around 2pm my bump had flattened out. By 4pm curls started to lose their curl. And by 6pm you could barely tell I got my hair done that morning. I attached three photo. First pic was taken right after I finished makeup, around 1030a. Second pic was taken around 2pm. And last pic was taken right before the ceremony at 630pm. I was bummed but really tried not to let it ruin the beautiful occasion I was in town to celebrate. I really wanted to like this place and to be fair I'd give them 3 1/2 stars. I really couldn't stress more how important it was to me that I needed my hair to hold. I gave the stylist permission to spray me down with hairspray until I could taste it! But if she felt it wouldn't stay then she should of been honest and just gone with my second option a simple sleek blowout. Idk maybe I'm a little high maintenance with my hair but I don't feel I was being unrealistic. read more

The stylist seemed like she didn't want to be there. I really regret trying this place. The stylist tried to shampoo and massage my hair / scalp with long finger nails. It was the worst experience. When I made a comment that I wanted her to fix the back of my head to have more volume, she said that's just how my hair is and she can't do anything about it! What a waste of my money! Curls still intact! Updated as of 2:45pm: curls and body still holding on well, I haven't done anything except hairspray and have continued my day as normal. You MUST go to Adam for your makeup. The moment I sat in the chair, I immediately felt relaxed and comfortable. Adam has such a warmth to him, and I loved that he asked what kind of look I wanted. Some makeup artists just do what they think fits your face. My makeup was flawless. He really highlighted my eyes (which are my favorite part of my face) and gave me suggestions on what contour to use for my cheekbones (which are my weakest part). Best of all, he was so amazingly fast. He is definitely a professional in every sense. My makeup is still holding strong - no eyeliner smears or lashes falling off! read more

First time I came in the morning at 9 and second time was during the day so no reason as to why each time I had to wait over 25 minutes for my appointment. I have thick wavy hair and she does a great job at blow drying my hair with just the blow dryer. She never uses the flat iron (which I'm not a big fan off) and always makes sure to get it right the first time. I have never been to a blowdry bar before but I was pretty excited when a friend recommended it. The girl who did my hair was extremely friendly and asked a few times what I wanted- perhaps I wasn't the clearest but I said I wanted my hair blow dried straight with the ends curled inward. At the end of it while there my hair looked great with lots of volume however it was curls not a straight blow dry...it didn't fit the framing or style I wanted at all...she straightened a few pieces. Upon me going home to try and fix it and make it more how I had wanted I realized how frizzy it was she didn't put any cream or shine it at all. I would probably come here again but I would stick with my referral recommendation as the stylist. read more

The signature blowout. "Not like a soccer mom/ corporate head shot", I said... "I have a cowlick right in the front of my head and it will stick up like an alfalfa if left to dry", I said. I suffered extreme disappointment and arrived very late at work on photoday for not wanting such an outdated hair style in my photo for the next five years. It isn't visible in the photo, but the flyaways were terrible and my cowlick was completely sticking out. I was surprised that these supposed blowout experts use babyliss dryers, which are low to mid end (Google them! There is a reason Sephora is selling t3 and Dyson, not Babyliss.) I normally use a t3 at home and it leaves my hair looking far far less fried and riddled with flyaways. These shitty babyliss driers are very damaging to the hair. My concerns and disappointment with my blowout were obvious, but I was told that the huge poof would fall by my headshot at noon. The worst part was that the stylist made no effort to fix it, in spite of how visibly upset I was. This was supposed to be the signature blowout, which did not have that ridiculous flip in the photo. What an outdated look! I specifically asked for NOT this. I dashed home and put some loose waves in to camouflage The Flip. I don't understand why the stylist didn't do this to salvage her work. The worst part of the whole experience was the stylist's ambivalence towards my request. It was very uncomfortable because my "fussiness" was clearly annoying her. Although I was able to easily fix the horrid flip for the photo, the dry, dull and lack lustre look unfortunately could only be fixed with a total redo. Sigh. An unfortunate waste of time, money and an occasion when it was important to me to look my best. I am so disappointed with this whole experience and it is justifies investing in top tools like my t3 dryer and an interchangeable curl rod, rather than spending $40+ dollars on hit and miss blow fry services. Next time I'll be in control and I'll use better tools for better results. Note: Photo was taken in my apartment about 10 minutes after leaving the salon. I have smooth, naturally straight and well cared for hair. It's in good condition and it's not fried. I can't imagine a Blowout experience that tops this. Allow me to explain why. I scoured the internet for a salon that was both reputable and reasonably priced. To my dismay many salons were vague in pricing and in describing the styles they offered. The only thing they would list would be: a starting price, the signature blow out, occasion style price, and braid price, with little to no picture examples. However, Blowout Junkie's website covered all of those bases. Thorough, in their pricing for length of hair, customers will leave knowing exactly the amount they will have to pay at the end and can factor in gratuity. No surprise charges for length. Each style is displayed by a drawn out cartoon that is helpful in choosing the most fitting hair-do so you can roughly imagine what it will look like on you. They are not on Groupon which was a great indicator that they weren't lacking in business and had constant clientele. You can book online by setting up an account and they send a confirmation email. Comforting to know, the West loop is the second Chicago location. Perfect indicator that they've expanded and are thriving. These were all the deciding factors in choosing Blowout Junkie. Street parking is available. The salon is small, airy, and trendy. Staff was super welcoming and offered an array of beverages and reading materials for your choosing. I had tea and coffee throughout my visit. There are hair washing stations incase you want to roll out of bed and head over. Luz did my hair and she was so fantastic in explaining the process of Polished Retro Waves. I informed her that my event wasn't until late afternoon, so she advised to section my hair into tight curls, pin back my bangs, and for me to brush out my hair when leaving for the event. Luz demonstrated this for me on a small section of hair and then went back in to tighten the curls again. She said if I had trouble to call in and they would talk me through it step by step (not that I needed to) but how awesome is that?! Great service! When it came time to lightly brush out my hair, starting from bottom up, the hair took the shape it needed to. However I didn't brush out the curls in the front completely bc it was such a hot day, I didn't want my curls to go flat. My hair is down to my lower back and for the total experience, I was out of there in 45 min! What would have taken me way longer, Luz cut my time in half! All in all I loved the look but would better manage my time, next time I schedule, so that the hairstylist can thoroughly work her magic. I highly advise to book in advance. If you wait the day of to book make sure you do so as early as possible because they book-up fast on the weekends. This is a great one stop shop that also offers make up application and beautiful greeting cards if you need to pick one up for your event. For a reasonable $40, my curls lasted throughout the night from dancing & sweating, until I got home! Blowout Junkie will certainly remain in my glam arsenal! read more

I made a reservation a few weeks in advance to get my hair done. When I got there, my reservation couldn't be found. Shaquita was available "to squeeze me in" said she only had a little time before her next appt arrived. She said she didn't have time for a wash, but I was adamant; hadn't washed my hair in 3 days and was attending a wedding. About this time, they found my reservation and as it turned out, I was her next appointment. I thought everything would be okay. I explained that my hair is long and baby fine and please do not be too rough or it will split and break. She put too much heat and tension on it. It looked very pretty at first, but she used a foam lift underneath that was showing my the end of the night. I couldn't see the actual damage to my hair until after I washed it a couple of days later. It will take months to get it looking good again. This stylist may be awesome for clients with tougher hair, but for me... this was a disaster. read more

I had a photoshoot this week and I needed a blowout. I scheduled an appointment early in the morning and I was taken right on time. Shaquitta greeted me at the desk and got my hair washed and back on her chair for my service quickly. She is talented and skilled beyond belief and we had a great time chatting. It was so seamless and quick, I could see myself taking advantage of the service more often. I was so happy with my service and I was out of there in 45 minutes as promised. This place was such a disappointment! I came here on a Sunday to get my hair done for my bridal shower. I showed the girl a picture of what I had in mind and asked her if she felt comfortable doing it. She confidently told me she could do it no problem and how much she loved it. She was super sweet. In fact, everyone in the place was really sweet - which is why I'm giving them 2 stars. Fast forward to my hair being finished. It was a complete mess and not at all what I wanted. Didn't look anything like the photo and I was SO upset. At that point, there was nothing I could do but go to my bridal shower and attempt to fix it a bit in the bathroom. A+! I easily booked an appointment online, and then just as easily rescheduled to coincide with a friend's appointment to get styled for a holiday party we were attending. I arrived a few minutes ahead of my appointment a little after two on Saturday and waited just a minute or two before I was taken for shampooing. Jackie washed my hair twice before conditioning, all in the perfect temperature water, with no splashing, no violent head scratching (sorry, I've been a rookie hair stylist model several times, you'd be surprised how traumatizing poor hair-washing can be!) and offered me coffee, tea, water, or an iPad before starting to blowdry my hair. My friend arrived shortly after me bearing OJ & champagne, informing me this place is apparently BYOB (for mimosas at least, I'd call and check to okay anything else), and staff poured our drinks while we chatted and had our hair done. Jackie checked in on whether I wanted sleek, curls, or waves, how much volume I was looking for, and whether it was ok to use styling products in my hair. I also really appreciated great command of the round bristle brush and excellent deployment of the cooler blowdry setting near my scalp; again, I've been (literally) burned by cosmetology students, plus my hair never looks like this when I do it, so this is an art! I had great looking hair in under an hour, and received tons of compliments on it! It's currently Monday morning, and while I've lost the volume, my hair still feels and looks great to brush and wear another day; I love the extra mileage from one visit. The blowdry visit was $40; the salon offers a membership for 3 monthly blowouts for $115 plus discounted additional blowouts. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the decor was minimal/girlish: metal and bedazzling, and the space was clean and not as loud as you might expect. My sister-in-law works for DryBar in Boston, and even she said she wants to come here with me next time she visits when I told her about it! With a hairstylist in the family, I don't often let anyone else touch my hair, but this will be my new go-to spot when I do! read more

I wanted to love this place. It's a great space and the stylists were super nice. We came before a wedding to minimize the stress of getting ready. I asked for beachy waves and the stylist was great and they looked great at the end of the appointment. Sadly, as SOON as I walked outside my hair fell. I curl my own hair frequently and don't have this problem. By the time I got back to the hotel (20 minute cab, if that), one side of my hair was completely flat. We ended up having to recurl my hair at the hotel (which involved going to grab a curling wand). Super disappointing but I've never had a blowout last for such a short period of time. read more
