I was strolling in the mall and decided a nice watch would be a great graduation gift for a family member so I walked into Bloomingdale's. From the moment I approached the jewelry section I was approached by a woman who started following six behind me. The woman appeared to take my picture with her phone!!! . She even tried directing me where to go. It was so uncomfortable and unnerving, I couldn't look into the watches displayed in the cases without noticing her behind me. The saleswoman behind the case didn't even acknowledge my presence. No "hello" No "may I help you" Nothing. Ignored. Between both of these staff members there it was a very bad welcome for a customer. Terrible experience. read more

If you ever need to go to the customer service department on the second floor, be prepared to face cold expressions and a complete lack of welcoming words. Smiles, warmth, and respect are rare commodities here -- you could even call them 'luxuries.' These are the most basic qualities that department store staff should have, yet, frankly, they're hard to see. Every time I go there, it feels as if the customers owe them something. As the face of a department store, shouldn't they be more capable, more respectful, and more understanding toward customers? No wonder it's not called a 'Customer Service Center,' but simply labeled 'Returns' and 'Gift Wrapping' -- they really don't live up to the image of a high-end store. If every department's staff treated customers the way they do, I'd suggest going elsewhere to feel the difference. Although this store positions itself as upscale, some employees' professionalism is truly questionable. Even Hermès wouldn't treat customers with such indifference -- yet here, they can hand you a poker face, wear expressions that scream 'you're not welcome,' and mumble words that might actually shock you. If they refuse to show even a little kindness and warmth to customers, then whose loss is it -- the store's or the customers'? Shouldn't they reflect on that? Maybe they don't actually care about the store's reputation at all -- they only care about fully expressing their own rudeness. There's a saying that goes, 'As long as they don't feel embarrassed or think they've crossed a line, then you're the one who ends up feeling awkward.' I'll stop by this store's customer service from time to time to see if there's any change. Bloomingdales Chestnut Hill used to be the only place for a woman to buy a beautiful gown. Not any more. I would give a zero is I could. I went to the store two weeks ago as my nieces wedding was this weekend. I thought I had found the perfect gown for the formal wedding. The tailoring process was a nightmare. The girl did not know what she was doing. She kept focusing on the hem but I told her I was more concerned. She pinned where a snap needed to be added and went back to the hem. I don't know why. She was horrible. I was sweating because there was no air conditioning on the Dress Department floor. No air conditioning (in August, in taffeta, it must be a cost cutting measure.) Then the sales girl told me to call me should I need anything and handed me her card with her email and phone number. I decided to call to see if I could get the dress two days early. I called the girl three times- no call back. I emailed, no email back. They out of the blue a phone call. Her name is Shiva. She said she could not do anything as today and tomorrow was her day off. "Day off? I've been calling you for a week!" Finally a "manager" called me back. Shiva asked her to call me. I said oh I assume Shiva told you how upset I was. She said, so I explained the whole experience to her with all happenings. She said she would like to buy me lunch in their cafe--I declined (I don't need lunch. If I want lunch I will go where I want. What I need is a dress.) I went to get the dress early as the manager told me it would be ready at 2PM. I also requested a dress bag to keep the dress safe as I was traveling with it. I got to the store and the dress was not finished, and it looked like it was rolled up in a ball in someone's back seat since I had seem it. It looked like a pink garabage bag. The snap was not done. The inadequate seamstress was the same person. After much fiddling and fidgeting she finally pinned where she would add the snap. She looked at me and said "how's that?" I looked at her and said, You are supposed to be the professional seamstress, you tell me. I need to leave as I do not have anymore time. They took the dress outback, left me in the store for yet another wasted 1/2 an hour (like they thought I would buy something else.) They brought the dress out. No dress bag. The gentleman that was helping me said, I go grab one. yet another 20+ minutes and no dress bag. I took my $1,200.00 dress in short plastic that did not cover the dress without crimpling the bottom (the bottom was tied in a know) out of the store. The dress traveled. I got to my destination. I unwrapped the dress and looked at the front. There was a giant spot of some sort right where the snap was, the snap was not right and there was some sort of smudge ion the front as well. Needless to say, the dress still has its tags on, I ran to a tj maxx to find a dress, I looked okay but I know one thing for certain- i will never ever buy a dress at Bloomingdales in chestnut hill! read more

Horrible experience from beginning to end. Horrible value for your money. Blatantly rude and disrespectful staff. Ignored by staff while at register for 15 minutes, then were almost pushed aside in order for them to check out another customer. Browsed through the store. Not a single person stopped to check in on us or see if we needed help. We had ordered shoes as a gift for a relative which were the incorrect size. We came in to have them exchanged for the correct size and have them shipped to our relative's address. We notice a line at the register. Fine. 3 people in front of us - no problem, they're given proper service and out within 5 minutes total. The second we get up to the counter, all customer service reps disappear. We wait 15 minutes and even have an older woman employee come ask if anyone has helped us and then leaves again! Finally we have someone help us out. However, this gentleman doesn't seem to understand our needs of shipping our shoes out as a gift. Clearly he's had too much caffeine or on something as it's hard to follow his train of thought based on what we're conveying to him. In the middle of all this, another sales rep tries to usher us to the side in order to check out another customer, WHILE we're in the middle of our transaction. Insanely rude. Clearly our money is not as green as the other customers'. We considered returning the shoes and buying from elsewhere as this store and service is not worth suffering through. If you want to spend serious money, you've come to the right place. Bloomie's is all about the haute couture. There is no clearance rack here, no discount aisle, no irregular shelf and certainly there are no "rollbacks." I very briefly looked through the men's wear and was mildly shocked. Many of the pictures featured are older... nothing like today. For the past 10 years Bloomingdale's at The Mall at Chestnut Hill has been going down hill - you can see it. The men's building and housewares at one end of the mall is just a sad representation of what it used to be. At one time the men's was in a separate building across the street in the lower mall. The general managers used to have a level of professionalism and civility - respect. You'd see them on the floor working with staff and greeting customers. No more. They keep getting younger and younger (maybe because I'm getting older) but they seem to be shallow, entitled, arrogant, and above it all - they forget they are 'managers' and stand behind the counter and are not the clients or customers - many who have been coming for generations. We were there recently. No sofas or chairs to sit on or relax on... which used to be around the departments. The suit selection was sad and very limited. And we used to buy three or four suits at a time, mostly Canali Suits... and you could tell they were quality. Now... they don't seem the same quality. Maybe - perhaps - seconds or a lessor grade or cut. No more Burberry... and the cashmere pull overs are so thin you can see your hand through them. Men's shoe's a joke. The bathrooms at times have been filthy. Huge open bare spaces on the floor where merchandise once was. Limited or no displays at all - just bare spots. And they're stretching out stock to make it look like more. It's not of the cache it once was. It's rather like an Outlet Store. There is few staff and some look like they just rolled out of bed, or are working through a 'recovery program,' and appear ungroomed dirty. And many of the men don't seem to shave. They could put some effort into it... any effort - and if this is their effort then where is the training and mentoring. There's no connection between client and staff. No one to help you. And the attitude is insincere and just 'why am I here.' I think Macy's has a better product and more staffed with product. There's nothing special about Bloomingdale's. It seems to be riding on its name and it seems to be a fading name. There's better options. Saks. Nordstrom's. But, I think it all begins with the store's general manager... I don't think they understand what Bloomingdale's was and I think they appear to be too important and full of themselves to actually roll up their sleeves and make it work. If the staff doesn't respect the manager - and the manager acts arrogant - and controlling - it reflects on them and they should be fired and replaced with an age appropriate leader that actual knows what the Bloomingdale's brand is (sadly was) about. Shop online, go to Saks, Nordstrom, or even the outlets and find your own tailor. It will save time and energy. read more

For that reason, I came here to get some winter clothes, and was not-too-surprised by how extremely expensive they are. The store was kind of dead, and with these prices I can see why. Not the worst place in the world to shop, but you can get a lot of this stuff cheaper online, so when in Bloomingdale's I usually end up browsing and not buying anything, and that was the story this time, too. Ordering online from them is tha absolute worst thing you can do. They double charge your credit card and lie to you about cancelling orders then shipping it to you so they don't have to reimburse you then make you jump through all these hoops to get the charge removed from your credit card . Then they come with if you don't cancel within 39 minutes if an online purchase then they cannot cancel it. WTF!!!??. I will be contacting corporate about this transaction too!!. Purchased a Ferragamo Studio bag and wallet on 11/21/2021. The sales woman pulled a bait-and-switch telling me that I would pay around $2400 for the bag and wallet after a discount- when I looked at my CC statement I was charged over $3200. I have attempted several times to reach management by phone only to just now (11/23 at 11:30) have someone tell me "we're very busy right now, you'll have to leave a message, there's no management here." Completely unethical business practice. Will DEFINITELY be returning that $3200 handbag and wallet that I was defrauded into buying. An apology would be more than welcomed. read more

This review is catered more to their alterations/tailoring "department." I put that in quotes since I never actually met a tailor. I had brought a dress to be hemmed and it took a while to find a salesperson to talk to. The first person I found rudely told me to go upstairs, and did not seemed to want to be bothered with questions. The second person I found actually was very nice, and why I am giving the store two stars since she actually did her job. She brought me to the fitting rooms and found another attendant to help. When I put on my dress, the attendant said that she would be right back with the tailor. But I didn't see anyone for 25-30 minutes. She didn't even come back to to give me an update and I couldn't find this salesperson again. I made the decision to leave since I already felt stressed out and found a local tailor. So don't come here for alterations since it is not worth being forgotten. I'm also not sure if this was because I had a dress that I didn't purchase at Bloomingdale's (someone I know said they prefer to alter the dresses that you buy there) but either way I would not go here for tailoring. read more

I've been a Bloomingdale's cardholder for about 8 years, and I have loved their online customer service. 8 years ago I purchased a pair of Ferragamo shoes from a lovely gentleman at this store and I will never forget how great that experience was, and it's been a really long time since I've shopped in person here so I was very excited to shop around today. Clearly, things have changed. I went to this store today specifically to return some items I have been hanging on to for too long (about a year) when their return policy was "whenever, for whatever". I approached 3 ladies at the register who looked at me like I was trash, didn't say hi or anything, let alone smiled. One girl reluctantly helped me and said it's been "way too long and there's nothing I can do, sorry" not even a "have a nice day" it was like "ok leave me alone now, bye". One of the items had a huge manufacturing defect, it was literally unwearable. I immediately called customer service and the rep on the phone said they would be happy to take my merchandise back via mail, and that this specific store has a different policy on returns. I didn't return to the store even though I was excited to drop at least $1k on some shoes and home items I've been wanting to buy for a while. I mean I used to love Bloomie's but I came in recently and the women's section was lacking. Once you step foot into this department its like stepping foot into a NO TREND ZONE. Majority of the merchandise is frumpy looking but still super pricey. There was nothing that caught my eye except for a brightly colored Ralph Lauren sweater. The lingerie department: Unless you are a size AA, A or tiny B cup, don't expect to find any cute, colorful, sexy, lacy or cute printed bras. The larger sized bras are frumpy too. I will NEVER shop at Bloomingdale's. Recently the credit card company reported a late payment to the credit bureau despite the fact that I never received a bill or an email prompt to pay. Ive never paid late duiring the four years I possessed a Bloomingdale's credit card. I reached out to appeal and got no consideration. in the meantime my credit has gone down 150 points despite no late payments in 15 years. I had never shopped there before but I recently bought a dress online that Instagram knew was my style, so I ordered it for pickup because the shipping was pricey and the dress was $80. I bring my pickup dress to the dressing room area and waited a few minutes to see a sales person, but after I see no one I go to try on the dress. They run some nice gift with purchase events here and they also have a full service Clarins spa which is great since that is the skincare line that I use. I went into the spa once before to use up a gift card that Clarins had sent me and I really enjoyed the facial that I received. The store is very well staffed and well stocked as well. I am a Nordstrom shopper for their amazing customer service and easy returns, but sometimes I shop at Bloomingdales when Nordstrom is out of stock of something I want. Well, that happened recently. There was a pair of earrings I wanted to purchase for my mother as a Christmas gift, but Nordstrom's was out of stock so I ordered online at Bloomingdales. Even though I indicated at checkout that these were a gift, the earrings arrived in a Bloomingdales jewelry box that was falling apart, and had layers of scotch tape wrapped around it. A little annoying, since it was a gift, but not a huge deal. Since I was near my local Bloomingdales store the other day, I decided to pop in and ask the jewelry counter for another gift box. I approached a woman who was behind the jewelry counter, explained what happened, and asked for another gift box. She then says to me, "Well, are you a nice person?" I kind of just laughed as I thought it was a strange question and wasn't quite sure how to respond. She then proceeded to get me another gift box and the little pouch that is supposed to come with Alexis Bittar earrings. She handed me the box and as I thanked her she said, "Sure. You seem like an honest person." Maybe she was trying to be funny, but I found her comments downright rude and condescending. Like why so much attitude? You sent me a crummy gift box and I politely asked for a new one--there was no need for snarky comments. I hate this store. It's really close to my house, so I keep giving it a shot. Three times I have gone in wanting to spend a lot of money. The first time I went in and told an associate I was going to a black tie event and needed a dress. I was willing to spend enough that I didn't have to go dress shopping again for a long time. She looked me up and down and said cooly "I don't think we have your size." WTF?! I was like a size 8! I went home in tears. A couple years later I finally decided that woman was just having a bad day or I must have remembered incorrectly. This time would be different! I got a personal shopper to help me put a wardrobe together for a fancy dancey ski trip to Switzerland. The woman told me nothing would look right if I didn't also get this black suede pair of booties for $850. I persevered and did not get the boots, though I did get several other things she had found. I was satisfied enough with this experience that I brought a friend to get a black tie event dress here and she said her budget was $500. She said fine and came back with three dresses, one that fit but was $1,500 and two that were two sizes to small. My friend felt awful but then walked over to the dress department herself and pulled one off the shelf that fit perfectly was beautiful and $300. Commission seems to be a big problem for that one. Now two weeks ago I again tried to go to look for a dress, and someone was helpful and I found one I liked but needed the next size up. She said she would order it for me or get it from another store or something and she took my number and email address and told me she would call when it came in. So I just went back to see if it was there (the event is now just over a week away) and a different lady said there is no way anyone would have tried to get a dress from another store for me. So one of those women was very very wrong and now I've lost two weeks and have to expedite any dress I do find with my limited time left. Please go anywhere else to shop. read more
