    The remnants of our tasting
    Keturah F.

My mother set up this tasting, and although it was originally over-budget, I would cut other wedding expenses to work with a baker like Trang every time! The weird thing was that our wedding cake tasting was set in a nail salon. ‍ that being said, I have been in a LOT of nail salons and this one was lovely and we were on the other side of the salon, so there was a separation of space that felt very natural. No acrylic smells wafting through the air here! Do not be deterred! When my fiancé and I walked in the table was set for two. We were immediately welcomed with sparkling water, tea, and dessert wine. So pampered! We started the tasting with Trang's flavor recommendations and every bite was exquisite. You do not have to LOVE food to enjoy her cakes, but they are the "best cakes I've ever tasted" in my fiancés words. If you DO care about food the way I do, you will appreciate just how much thought and care goes into every bite you take. Trang makes every single cake from scratch with the highest quality ingredients. She even makes the BUTTER from scratch. Do you know how much easier it is to buy butter???? Each cake she brought out was decorated as we were tasting them. The buttercream you see in the pictures? The garnishes on the plates? All finished in-house. As we sampled we discussed my two favorite topics: weddings and sweets. The conversation was lovely and flowed naturally. My fiancé, who usually feels uninformed and even underwhelmed by cake was immediately eager to try the next decadence she had in store for us. A master at her craft, Trang provided excellent service, cakes that delighted the palate, and an experience we will not soon forget. Even if you aren't sure if you will use her as your baker, I highly recommend you try her out, as her ability to create a vision will get you absolutely thrilled for your wedding day. (Or any other special event!!) Her cakes may have a higher price tag, but her love and her labor is worth every cent. I look forward to my wedding day, where our Blooming Cakes masterpiece will surely wow our guests. (Bonus- it was my birthday and it was just such a wonderful experience overall. I hope you choose her. You will not regret it.)

Blooming Cakes is the best place in Marin for personalized baked goods! Trang is the creative mastermind beyond this small business and she thrives at delighting and leaving her customers in awe with any theme, flavor or dietary restriction they throw her way. Does your kid want a buttercream Barbie princess cake that's gluten free? No problem. All you need to do is send her a message and she will help you flush out the details. You can't find quality like this in a grocery store at such a reasonable price. Just look at the gingerbread molasses cookie she made for the holidays! Simply breathtaking.

Seriously, you might think pie is pie, but no, there's pie, and then there's pie from Petaluma Pie Company. Friendly employee and clean area outside the shop is well. So that's good. My only complaint is the eco-friendly fork they provide is absolutely awful. Not sure if it's a Petaluma requirement but real plastic forks would be much appreciated. Regardless, this place is a must-try!

They recently underwent an ownership change in 2024 from the OGs, but fortunately, instead of selling to a corporation, they sold it to an employee and his mother to help ensure the original ethos and quality remain intact. The Good: * Their pies are made with locally-sourced and organic ingredients bought from the local farmers market--as well as some fruit that they grow themselves! * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * As mentioned above, they have both sweet and savory pies. We only tried the sweet *oink oink* * Friendly service * Love that they have both full sized pies and smaller ones, so you don't have to commit to a big ol' pie. * We tried their Elvis (PB, banana, and chocolate) and their Black & Blue Crumble and they were both fabulous! I leaned a bit more to the B&B, as I absolutely adored that granola crumble on top, but the Elvis was no slouch either. The Meh: * Interior is small and very cramped. Definitely a grab-and-go type operation. The Ugly: * Parking in DT Petaluma can be a hassle, as it's street parking only, but at least it's free. Conclusion: Fantastic spot to scratch that 3.14 itch--and I'm always itchy!

On this particular Saturday my friend used his handy dandy Yelp app to find something in Petaluma for some sort of dessert and Trader Jim's popped up as being at the Farmer's Market at Walnut Park on the west side of Petaluma so we decided to go. We started strolling by all the different stands and offerings and then there it was the Trader Jim's Tiki trailer. We couldn't wait to get a taste of their pineapple whip! I had the pineapple float which was the pineapple whip in a cup with pineapple juice. Talk about delicious!!! And the price was right! Don't forget there is no need to travel to Southern California when you have a hankering for that delicious pineapple whip as you need not look any further than your own backyard and Trader Jim's Tiki Trailer. A full cast of interesting characters. The home of the world's ugly dog contest (I tend to stay away during this event to avoid becoming a contestant) and wrist wrestling championship. Once famous for being the egg capital of the world. I once heard this conversation in a bar, "Hey Steve remember when we got paid to inseminate chickens when we were on acid?" Steve: "Those were chickens?" Sam Shepard would've had a field day here. Some newer buildings made to look old with crafted Styrofoam façades. You get the feeling you're on a movie set, which it has been on several occasions. I lived here for a number of years, a bit of a Peyton Place aura. Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more. Some of my favorite people I've met in the last 30 years hale from here. And, a disappropriated amount have left this earth too soon. One of the best foodie destinations north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Superb coffee shops and bakeries, some award-winning. So, back in 1999 I took a wrong turn off the freeway and discovered Petaluma and the first place I went was the "Tea Room" and it's still pretty much as awesome as it was then. A real nice vibe, nicely decorated with some incredible pastries to include the orange cranberry scone as I recall, sold out today. My breakfast today was quite good with the walnut toast, and a huge portion of very large potatoes that could've been cut into smaller pieces and maybe I only needed one third of the portion. Dem tatters were 'nuff for four people. Great atmosphere, nice friendly staff, and a very pleasant ambience. There's mirrored signage that says TEA mounted high on the wall across from one another so as to appear as if it were a reflection. I personally can also see the word EAT in there every time I glance at it. I was told years ago that it came from an old Texaco gas station sign. It makes sense, check it out. On Western Avenue. I used to tell folks it's across from the pink Catholic Church rectory. That's been painted to a rather unattractive conservation brown. A lot of nice outdoor seating and cool shops nearby, check out next-door thrift shop and the ever remarkable Petaluma market around the corner, with superb produce display! Famous for cheese, wine, cider, breweries and happy cows! If you're coming from the south cut over through Fairfax to Olema and take the back road up to Petaluma which is a stunning drive!

I'm not sure what her issue is, but I have heard from other friends in town that they have had similar experiences with her and it's made them stop going there. Unfortunately, we won't be returning either.

We were in the Bay Area, and dessert is always an option! After a quick yelp search, I discovered doughpamine. What I did not know, is that they don't have a storefront! And the address listed on YELP doesn't even go to the kitchen. It's kind of weird. The address actually corresponds with an ethnic market, which by the way, I did some shopping and and found some really cool things, but I digress. I immediately was in search of what is supposed to be fabulous Cookies. After a couple of stops at some of the local grocery stores, I struck Gold, and was able to purchase three different flavors!! I love the fact that it's frozen premade cookie dough. That means that you can bake as many or as few as you would like. I will say, the flavors are unique, and the price point is high. But you definitely get what you pay for. Each bag runs about $17 and there's six large pre-shaped cookie rounds in each bag. Rhapsody Road is my favorite! I just wish that the cookies had more marshmallow bits. I will say with all the flavors that I find almond to be a little bit off pudding and while I like unique flavors, well, it works with the Road to some extent, I really would like to see the almond removed. Miso peanut butter: I was super excited about this because I absolutely love peanut butter, and I thought the miso would add a very unique taste profile. This is my least favorite out of three packages that I purchased, and again it has almond in it and some other flavors that frankly just don't work. I wanted more of a peanut butter flavor And for some reason the miso and peanut butter just did not blend the way that I needed it for it too. I would take a pass on this next time. Blueberry corn: OK this was the Darkhorse for me, and I really did not think that I was going to like this, but in fact, I loved it! It's like a combination of a really good cornmeal muffin with blueberries in it but in cookie form. I absolutely would've loved more blueberries but the flavor combo is absolutely delicious. Why am I raving about frozen cookie dough?! I really wish that Jessica Nolan, the owner and creator had a storefront. Why? Because who doesn't want a freshly made warm cookie?! Right? But she did the next best thing and really, sometimes it's a late night craving and now it can be done at home. Simple and easy to follow baking instructions, and one is really filling, but you'll definitely want a second one! The baked cookies were definitely bigger than what I expected, and it made it all worth it! Jessica is a fine, dining pastry chef by trade, a Michelin restaurant, inspector, and a Food Network champion! She knows what she's doing. What's great about this is that you don't need to live in the Bay Area to grab these! Jessica has a website and ships everywhere. I've already placed an order. I love the fact that the prices are the same online as they are in the grocery store. This has that unique Yum factor that we all look for in that extraordinary cookie.
