boston cream without the chocolate

Updated Review: After posting my original review, the company refunded the cost of the donuts and offered to make a fresh dozen on the house. They were apologetic about the situation, which I really appreciated. The donuts were similar to the first time I had them. Because they made a real effort to make things right, I've added two more stars. I'm giving two stars because my first experience was great. Unfortunately, every experience after that has been subpar, and at this point, it feels like a pattern rather than a one-off issue. I've ordered from this business 4 times total. * First order: Amazing. No complaints. * Second order: Ordered donuts for our Anniversary. The donuts tasted burnt. We paid over $100 for 12 donuts, which was our choice, and I understand the labor involved, so while disappointing, we let it go. * Third order: The donuts tasted good, but part of the order was missing. I take responsibility for this one because the order was verbally confirmed at pickup, and I didn't realize the mistake until I got home. This most recent order is what ultimately prompted this review. I placed a preorder for Valentine's Day, and it was confirmed. When my husband arrived to pick it up, the person working up front said that all preorders had already been picked up, followed by, "I'm not really sure what you want me to do about it?" There was no apology or empathy at that point. After checking, they did find my order: two of every flavor being offered (10 donuts total). My husband was then told they were out of the glazed donuts and asked if he wanted replacements. I told him to just take the remaining donuts and call it a day. When he went back inside, only 6 donuts were boxed up. When he asked why, he was told they were also out of the maple donuts. The person in the back did apologize, which I appreciated, but then followed it with an explanation about being on vacation until Wednesday, despite the order being confirmed on Wednesday. No discount, partial refund, or attempt to make the situation right was offered, other than us paying to replace the missing donuts with things we were not interested in. From what was relayed to me, the interaction with the person in front felt dismissive, as if my husband was inconveniencing them by picking up a confirmed preorder. To top it off, the donuts themselves were clearly the last of the batch. One strawberry mousse donut had no filling at all (as pictured). The Boston cream donut had no chocolate other than a tiny drop on the edge, even though it's advertised with a chocolate top. The cinnamon swirl donuts were also noticeably smaller and misshapen compared to previous orders. None of these issues individually would have been a big deal. But combined, especially forgetting a confirmed Valentine's Day preorder, it was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, I won't be recommending this business moving forward. I've attached a picture of my first order, which was great, followed by the most recent one.

Wow! This team did such a stellar job when I ordered a cake for a milestone birthday. Ordering was SO easy (just a few emails back and forth, and a Venmo), it was ready on time, it looked amazing, it tasted even better - and it was quite affordable. 10/10, would recommend Mad Batter - especially the red velvet cake!

Just a 15 ‍ supposed to say happy 15th birthday (child's name)

We were so welcomed when we first walked in we sat down with dawn and she took out a note book and started jotting all the cake details down . She gave us some samples to try we picked our flavors and design and $400 dollars later that was that ,or so I thought . Dawn reassured me several times her carrot cake was the best and the design was taken care of . I saw her write down everything we talked about . So when I went to pick up the cake I was super excited. One -I get there and take one look at it and immediately see the border was not what we had planned Two- no where on it does it say happy birthday ‍.dawn assures an easy fix .... i see them scrambling in the back and her daughter says they have been really busy with graduation cakes and that the lady decorating has an English language barrier ,which is fine but I already paid a pretty penny and would like what we had planned out . Three-. They then throw a 15 on the front of the cake and call it a day . When I say call it a day the daughter had actually boxed and shoved it in my vehicle so I couldn't even check it out in store before I left Four -. There was a raisin allergy and somehow they still put raisins and instead omitted the nuts ,this was only found out after we had cut the cake Five - when we let dawn know by text of all the issues they sent a picture of a cake form that said no nuts on it and that's it . Mind you when we planned the cake there was no cake form ,it was my family and dawn and a note book ....they didn't apologize for the error ,they didn't offer any sort of refund ,they didn't even acknowledge all of the errors ..... I really don't write reviews but I chose this bakery based on good reviews so I feel like I'm obligated to let people know our experience . And pls if you still chose this bakery take a picture of the agreement so at least you have proof because unfortunately I didn't. What could improve. 1-Communication . 2-Not overbooking yourself and blaming the decorator , 3-correctly transferring information from note book to baking form 4-actually seeing you error ,accepting the fault and fixing mistakes!

Wedding cake - lemon layer and hazelnut layer

AMAZING! I found the Mad Batter Cakery Online trying to find somewhere to get a small wedding cake that would be gluten free. I live in LA but was getting married in Santa Rosa, so I wasn't able to even try anything from the bakery beforehand, but I was not disappointed. What we got was a gorgeous cake, amazing texture and flavor (we didn't tell the guests until later that it was gluten free) and the friendliest help ever from Sarah and Dawn. A+++ service We had one layer lemon and the other hazelnut and both were incredible!! I HIGHLY recommend this bakery!!!! I can't wait to go back and try other items

New year, new delicious cake! Now produced lovingly in Santa Rosa off of College Ave.

We were so happy with our daughter's second birthday cake. It was beautiful, and everyone at the party said it was the most incredible cake they had ever seen and tasted. We are so appreciative of Dawn for taking the time to listen to what we were looking for in the cake and incorporating the decorations we brought. Highly recommend using their bakery and looking forward to ordering from them again!

I'm always on the hunt for good gluten free desserts. They are hard to come by. The Mad Batter makes the best gluten free desserts I have ever had! I have had her cakes at Wild Goat and frequently get her cupcakes at Penngrove Market. We made our first ordered in Dec for the Holidays. Not only was it beautiful and delicious but my gluten eating family loved it!

Beautiful!

Dawn is fantastic to work with and the cakes are beautifully made. The flavors and ingredients are top notch and so well thought out. A unique and wonderful blend of creativity and delicious decadence.

Do they have any small, single serving treats, or just larger cakes?

I usually buy the raspberry cake slice, the macarons, and Whoopie Cookies. I've purchased the cruffles and the macarons as gifts for my friends, and they're always adorned in a cute box with a ribbon bow. There are also gluten-free cupcakes available. They've never disappointed me and I often walk out of the store with a smile and my sweet tooth satisfied. Cons: Street parking can be tricky during busier times. However, it's about a 5 minute walk away from the Santa Rosa Plaza Mall. The cake slices and cupcakes lay on the buttercream pretty thick, which can get overly sweet. Overall: I had been going to Sift Dessert Bar since 2015, and when it closed in 2024, I was surprised to find that the location for the original Santa Rosa store is now owned by a former manager of Sift Dessert Bar! If you missed Sift Dessert Bar, you'll definitely love Blondie's Bakery Boutique. The colorful interior and sweet treats make this shop a must-visit. While I have ordered a cake from Sift Dessert Bar, I have not done so for Blondie's Bakery Boutique.

Where do I even begin?…read more I feel like I owe Jessica the most glowing, overdue review on Yelp. As a repeat customer, I only just discovered her Yelp page--and honestly, shame on me for not singing her praises publicly sooner. Jessica is a home baker, a stay-at-home mom of two, and a full-blown culinary artist. Her business, Jessica & Co Creations, is everything you hope to find in a local bakery--but with the heart, soul, and warmth that only comes from someone who genuinely loves what they do. Let me tell you about a recent event. We threw a "Death to My 20s" themed 30th birthday party for my boyfriend. I asked Jessica for two dozen cupcakes--half vanilla with vanilla buttercream, and the other half vegan chocolate with chocolate frosting (we had a vegan friend joining us). Not only did she stay in communication with me every step of the way, making sure my vision came to life, but she absolutely nailed it. I'm lactose intolerant and usually can't enjoy most desserts, but those vegan chocolate cupcakes? Mouthwatering. Moist, rich, decadent, and most importantly--made with such care. I felt so seen and included, like this wasn't just a cupcake, it was a small act of love. And yes, I devoured more than my fair share. Then there was my own birthday. Unbeknownst to me, my boyfriend planned a surprise party--and there it was: a Kirby-themed birthday cake! If you don't know who Kirby is, he's a round, pink video game character from Nintendo who inhales enemies and gains their powers. He's adorable, iconic, and a core part of my personality. The fact that Jessica made a cake so personal, so perfect--it genuinely brought me to tears. Not only was it beautiful, it was delicious. The entire party devoured it like Kirby himself. It was a perfect moment of joy and nostalgia. But wait--it gets better. Jessica also makes these genius little boxes called cake samplers. Think: a bite of everything for those of us who don't want to commit to one whole cake (or let's be honest--just want to eat four mini cakes without judgment). Red velvet, Oreo, birthday cake, carrot cake... It's a guilty pleasure in a box. Honestly, I buy these as a treat to myself because life's too short not to eat cake whenever you want. She's also the queen of cookies. I'm currently waiting on a fresh batch of her cookies, and the anticipation is REAL. Jessica is everything you want in a baker: creative, kind, detail-oriented, communicative, and incredibly talented. Whether you need a simple batch of chocolate chip cookies, a stunning custom cake, or a dozen cupcakes that make your heart (and tastebuds) sing--Jessica & Co Creations is the answer. Support this amazing woman. She's not just baking treats--she's baking memories.
