Took my family here for the first time. Everything was delicious. Recommend the iced dirty chai latte (chai latte with a shot of espresso). Fried mushroom were a hit! Always going to order these. Pancakes were the bomb next time we want to try the pimento cheese balls. Shrimp and grits were Cajun delicious creamy buttery and cheesy. I had a bl fgt (bacon lettuce and fried green tomatoes ) but it came last, so no pic. But I recommend, if your in a sandwich mood. read more

It was our first time here. I came with a lot of hype for this local restaurant. We got here at 12:30pm on a Sunday. There was seating and we didn't wait long to order and sit. When we were done at 1:45pm the place had pretty much cleared out. Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak sandwich and the Shrimp and Grits. The chicken fried steak was about a 1/4 of the actual chicken fried steak platter. The meat was a bit tough and you couldn't really bite it. There wasn't gravy on it so we asked for some on the side and it was really watery. So there probably was gravy when we got it, but it most likely soaked into the bread. The chips were homemade. The shrimp and grits were good and flavourful. But I only got 4 shrimp. A little bit disappointing for a $16 plate. The sweet tea was nothing to write home about. But I appreciate that they bring you a carafe of water and leave it on the table. There is an outdoor patio with is great! But that just invited about 4 flies to hover around our table. I know that's not the restaurant's fault. But I felt it should be mentioned. And the staff wasn't in a good mood... We will be back for breakfast to give it a second chance. read more

I was really looking forward to my visit to The Blockhouse, but unfortunately, what I witnessed completely ruined the experience. During a busy lunch rush, an older man--who appeared to be the manager or owner--came out and loudly scolded the cashier in front of everyone. It seemed to be about a billing issue, but the way he handled it was completely uncalled for. Yelling at a young employee in front of a packed restaurant isn't just unprofessional--it's humiliating and unacceptable. The poor girl looked stunned and uncomfortable, and honestly, so did the rest of us. If this is how the staff is treated, it makes you wonder what the work environment is like behind the scenes. I believe in supporting businesses that value and respect their employees, and sadly, this wasn't that. I won't be returning. read more

When you first walk in, you grab a menu and stand in line to order. No issues there from the restaurant itself. I always order a basic breakfast when trying a new place for breakfast. Here we go. I ordered the classic breakfast, scrambled eggs, toast and bacon. My wife ordered the eggs Benedict. My potatoes were the Sysco classic garbage, eggs coloring was way too even, not real eggs. Bacon was cold and they have 48% whipped vegetable oil "butter". Eggs Benedict, came with no hollandaise sauce, when my wife asked for more, they said she had to pay for it. She is a huge eggs Benedict fan, she said it was the worst she has ever had. Will not be back. read more

Food was amazing , as soon as you walk in the door.. you know you picked the right spot. The smells and welcoming faces make you wonder what to order. I can assure you as a first time here that I will be back and that more than likely it doesn't matter what you order it all tastes delicious. Not to many times do you sit down and can feel like people care about their job or quality they put out nowadays. This place restores my faith.. small building BIG FLAVOR read more

It's such a cute little country restaurant. Local fresh eggs and bacon; you'll taste the difference. Location not far from I-10 off 1604. Once a year, I'm out this way, I've always got to stop in and enjoy breakfast. The ladies are sweet servers. You'll love it. Home away from home. Thank you! read more

What a cute little breakfast, lunch, and coffee spot! Everyone is exceptionally nice with great service. My favorite part is the view of the country side on back of the restaurant with their outdoor seating. I'm so sad I didn't get a picture of it. I was just taking it all in at the moment. French toast - 5/5. I'm not sure what kind of bread they use but it made the French toast extremely light and fluffy! Felt like I was eating a cloud of yummy! I did not need the syrup at all! The honey drizzle and banana slices were perfect for me. Iced latte - 5/5. Double shot of espresso with oat milk and a pump of vanilla bean syrup. I'm a coffee addict so I was pumped to see how many coffee options they had. I enjoyed that they had so many different syrup flavors but vanilla is always a win/win for me and it didn't disappoint today. Side of bacon - 4/5. Can't go wrong with bacon if you eat pork. It was great. I only give it a 4/5 because it came out dripping in bacon fat. I'm sure some people enjoy that. I always dry it off when I cook it at home so purely a personal preference. Absolutely a knock out location and a gem of a spot! read more

Food is of great quality, came for breakfast and they didn't disappoint. You must order at the counter and pay, food will be delivered to your table. Don't take long for food to come out, maybe 10 mins average. A little noisy with all the people talking. You can sit inside or outside. Portions are good for the price. read more

If you haven't eaten here you're definitely missing out!!! We stop by often and have never been disappointed. I absolutely love their weekend brunch!!! Even though you stand in line to place your order, they still have exceptional table service. My food has always been served fast, hot and amazingly delicious!!! Their pancakes are my favorite:) I always look forward to visiting the Blockhouse!!! read more

They have great food, everything I have tried has been amazing. Although they seem to have adequate staff, maybe their systems are not so great. Especially for take out. They have a convenient drive through for pick up which is great, except you can also order to-go there as well. If you pick up in the drive through, be prepared that the person in front of you may have just ordered, now you wait until their food is ready before even getting to the window. If you've ordered any specialty coffee, they won't make it until you are at the window, so you wait another 15 minutes or more for everything. My latte was hot at least, and the soggy avocado toast was still delicious, so as long as you're good with a super long wait and maybe some young inexperienced staff, this is the place for brunch! read more

Blockhouse - Avocado toast with a side of bacon - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Saint Hedwig, Texas

Let me start off by saying that I visit this establishment quite frequently. I know what is normal for this establishment during their breakfast and lunch rushes. My MIL wanted to come here for Mother's Day breakfast, because she knows I come all the time and she had never been. Yes, the service was slower today than normal, the wait times were long. However, they experienced a MUCH larger volume of people today, farrrrr beyond their normal weekend breakfast and lunch rushes. The line was out the back door for a good portion of our visit there today. The team there takes pride in what they offer, they take pride in their business, and they take pride in their craft. They are some of the sweetest people who care about their customers like family. Over the many times I've been there, I have observed them calling countless amounts of people by name, talking about vacations, asking about other members of the family. They clearly have a lot of regulars at this establishment, and for good reason. On top of that, their food and coffee has NEVER disappointed. My MIL and myself both very much enjoyed our meals there today, and she is very excited to go back. Today is a HOLIDAY, one in which people generally tend to go out to eat for breakfast or lunch. It is not the fault of the establishment if customers didn't plan ahead. They did the absolute best they could experiencing the sheer volume of customers they did today. Patience, grace, and a gentle word will always go so much farther than getting angry because service wasn't to your standard. I encourage those who plan to write a negative review or have written a negative review to give them another chance on another day. You will find that you will not be disappointed. To the Blockhouse team: we love you. Yall did a great job today. Thank you for choosing to be open today, and for making my MILs Mother's Day a little extra special yall ROCK!! read more

This place was not bad, but we didn't have a 5-star experience. We visited on a Saturday about mid-morning on our way into San Antonio to do some shopping. We found the place very noisy and the atmosphere hectic. Having to order our food at the register before we could sit down didn't leave much time to look at the menu and made us feel rushed. Also, there isn't a lot of room by the register so people leaving and folks waiting in line to order kept bumping into each other. The food was quite good, the prices were decent, and the service was also very good. This place is very clean, too. We'll probably give the Blockhouse another try, but not when they're so busy. read more

My husband and I visited Blockhouse after Sunday church. It felt like a perfect Sunday. The food was good but not anything we couldn't make at home. The breakfast sausage however stood out to us. The waffles were soft and fluffy and the candied jalapeños done so well! A must try! read more

It was our first time and while they were open, only the drive-thru was open. A bit disappointed, but it didn't discourage us. We went to the drive thru and ordered coffee and apps to go. I ordered a hot masala chai latte, fried green tomatoes with the pimento sauce, and pimento cheese balls. Wanted to order some light appetizers while we drove to another place for breakfast. Location was in the middle of nowhere, but cute and secluded place. Very beautiful and peaceful. Pimento cheese balls were cheesey and oozing with stretchy cheese. It was cheese goodness! Had a mild pimento cheese taste, freshly hot outnof the fryer, and golden, crispy crust. Crust was thick enough for the cheese balls to keep it's shape while it was in the fryer and kept all the soft, melted cheese inside. So delicious! Would order again! The fried green tomatoes was just alright. Not the best that I've had, but it was still good nonetheless. Not a big fan of the cornmeal batter and didn't feel it had much flavor to really bring out the green tomatoes. I prefer a nice, thick slice of tomato so that there's more of it than the coating and oil. Because these FGT were slighlty thin, it obsorbed more oil and the coating didn't offer a nice crunch. It came with the pimento sauce. The sauce itself was very good. I would prefer to pour it over fries or dipped fried pickles in, but not with FGT. Maybe I just prefer a homade ranch dip which I think is the best partner with FGT. Nevertheless, it wasn't bad but probably wouldn't be on my top list to order again. Masala chai latte was delicious and soul-warming. Not too sweet and topped with frothy milk. Love it! This place lost a star because it wasn't open for dining in on a Wednesday. Dining in is only open Thursday - Sunday, I think. I'm not even sure because we didn't see any signs and website doesn't say either. But the drive-thru is open if the dining area isn't. Don't be discouraged, go for the drive-thru. Take a stroll through the back and take a look at the view. There's a beautiful outdoor seating in the back. Super cute! Overall, I would highly recommend this place and would definitely come back again to dine in. Service was great and friendly. They have pasteies and bakeries too! So much more to see and taste! read more

Recommend: YES!!! Price: $5 and up starting with coffee Taste: the coffee was amazing! I used to live in busy stone oak and this place tops all of it. Experience: let me just say that this place is such a calm, time pausing, and relaxing environment that oversees the nice country living vibe. I came on a Thursday morning and was amazed with their flavor, my mother didn't enjoy hers but I was able to get her coffee replaced. I was impressed with the customer service and professionalism.
