Just finished Sunday brunch here. Coffee, eggs Benedict and avocado Benedict with rosemary potatoes. Coffee was exceptionally bitter no matter how much sugar or cream I used. The eggs were perfectly poached. The hollandaise tasted strongly of lemon. It was downright lemony. The rosemary potatoes might have had a single sprig of rosemary wafted in their direction much like La Croix has fruit wafted near it before bottling. It's clear that no one is actually tasting what is being cooked. All for $60. Not looking to return. read more

This was my favorite place we ate at on our trip to Provo. I started with a pomegranate mimosa and it was wonderful. I went for the French Dip sandwich which they use chuck roast I think instead of roast beef and it was incredible. It was the perfect size with fries. Our friends invited us to dine with them at this restaurant, a place that they frequent on their own, and we loved it as first-timers. Our server was Kai, who was knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the duration of our meal. I appreciated his wit and ability to jump into our conversation (he was invited into these conversations every time he passed by our table) and didn't seem to miss a beat. This place is SO yummy! We went for breakfast. My sister and I shared the biscuits and gravy and the brioche French toast with the unicorn syrup (basically buttermilk syrup). We all ate ALL our food. Like all of it. The ambiance is SO cute and fun. I love the quotes on the walls and the lovely roses they had in tall vases all around the restaurant. This was my favorite spot on my trip to Utah. We came here for Easter brunch. I started with a cucumber margarita, my mom had one of their specialty brunch cocktails and my sister had a mango lemonade. We all loved our drinks. Our waiter made each dish sound better than the next. I went for something I usually don't go for and got the pork belly & grits with over easy eggs. My mom had the biscuits and gravy with a poached egg and my sister tried their chocolate chip pancakes. We also got an order of french toast for the table because we had to try their special syrup. I heard kind of mixed reviews so I was wary but my family went for brunch and everything was delicious. I got the BLT Eggs Benedict and I was obsessed. The tomato and arugula were fresh and tangy, the bacon was thick cut and salty, and the egg was perfectly poached with lemony hollandaise. Th french toast was tender and delicious and the the poutine had tender meat and good flavor but was a bit heavy and one noted. Service was good. Menu was fun. Atmosphere was top notch. Saw this restaurant on Yelp and decided to try it. When I saw the pictures it showed a lot of varieties on the menu so we went. When we got there, I was pleasantly surprised if the restaurant, small but modern. The team was all great! My only disappointment was how small the menu was in the varieties being offered, due to covid. I wished they had a chicken dish. Minute details. Those are the things that really make a place excellent. The extra couple of seconds it may take to wipe a plate, the small adjustment to the tableware so it sits parallel to the angles of the table -- these are the kinds of things that great restaurants do to set themselves apart. And from what I can tell, that's what Block is aspiring to be: great. Though it only recently opened its doors, you can tell there's a lot of time, love, and experience that goes into the place, and it shows in the details. Now, before I set your expectations too terribly high, understand that it's a new place, and that they inevitably will take a while to find that rhythm. But on my visit late one night, it seemed to be in sync. We nearly missed the turn because to be honest, you don't expect a restaurant to occupy a space in this retail development on the east side of University. It's way up there and you might expect a fancy furniture firm, or even a funeral home, but there they are in a nicely decorated,comfortable space with lots of parking across the development. I was especially excited to see that they take reservations. This is a rarity in these parts, and even more stoked that they're using Yelp Reservations which means I can make a reservation right here on their page online (or on the app) without having to log in somewhere else or without charging them a per-seating fee. Always a good sign ;) Kelcee was there to take care of us, and from the start you knew she was a total pro. She has years of experience and it shows -- officially she's the COO but on our visit she was a charming, attentive server that offered some recommendations and made the experience even better. Let's get to the real meat, though. The food. Their overall concept is a farm-to-table, locally sourced menu... which isn't a concept in and of itself; having locally sourced ingredients is just what we should expect. Their menu is chef-driven and changes frequently depending on what's in season. There are a good amount of smaller plates, and the overall menu is New American; the kind where they list ingredients but save a little surprise for when the food arrives. It's plated beautifully and even though you get high quality ingredients and an appropriate plate size, we all felt like it was reasonably priced. You'll pay at least 25% more for food like this in other towns, maybe more. Drinkers delight--they have a full alcohol license. That's even rarer in these parts and even though I'm not a drinker, my table ordered up some wine and a cocktail and had high praise. I ordered the pork loin, and it was wonderful. It had a generous cut and it was juicy, which for loin, is a feat. The yam puree stole the scenes, though. Holy cow. A little apple chutney and you have the killer combo of the night. To be honest, though, I was most jealous of the person who ordered the beet salad and the charred peas. Hands down, the charred peas are the best dish I've had in recent memory and when I go back in a few weeks I'm going straight for them. As with all new places, they're bound to experience some ups and downs, but happily our visit was all ups. They've carved out a nice niche for themselves in Provo as the preferred date spot (the couple across the way demonstrated this perfectly--was it a Tinder date? A setup? I dunno, but it went well from what I could see!) and somewhere that you can get a nice meal, at a decent price, with a drink, no fluff but serious chops. The panna cotta was the perfect end, and Kelcee took care of us with a lil' chocolate cake and that pretty much pushed me over the edge to be a new fan of the restaurant, and definitely made me a fan of her. It will be exciting to see what happens as they continue to build momentum, gain a following, and reach out for those minute details that demonstrate excellence. read more

This was a super pleasant surprise. Came in around 8pm on a Saturday night and it was easy to get a table. My guest and I shared a lettuce wedge salad that was honestly a different take on a traditional lettuce wedge than I've had before and it was fantastic! Yes it had blue cheese crumbles, but the dressing was a green goddess dressing, and the blue cheese was not so plentiful that it took over the flavor of the dish which I really appreciated. That's such a strong cheese. It really doesn't need to be given in large quantities and often restaurants do. I came with pickled onions and small bacon bits and the lettuce was super fresh and it was just refreshing and delicious. We then shared the Mary's chicken. This might be one of the better chicken dishes I've had in a long time. The first thing that stood out was that the chicken was not over cooked. I mean honestly, when was the last time you went to a restaurant and the chicken wasn't over cooked? It came on a bed of seared squash that was flavorful and tender with a wonderful potato dumpling like thing that married incredibly well with the sauce which is really hard to describe. Best I can do is say olive oil, garlic, lemon and mint puree which was completely different a delightful surprise. I loved it! Huge recommendation! We had a young gal, Olivia, who was quite attentive and made sure our meal went well. My only complaint was that the floors felt slightly sticky. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was the end of the night and they hadn't had a full chance to adequately attend to a spill of some kind. Since the tables didnt seem sticky I relaxed. I am excited to go here again. I'm anxious to try some new dishes given how wonderful the last meal was. read more

Tucked into a missable strip mall in Provo, Block is truly a hidden gem. My wife and I have been here many times and without a doubt, are pleased with every experience. From classics like mouthwatering burgers, to innovative butter platters of bone marrow and "Thanksgiving stuffing" butter with bread and Indian/American style roasted and fried chicken with chutney sauce - Block takes traditional dishes and elevates them to finer-dining experiences. So this is a rare review. I have been to this place multiple times and had multiple items. Normally my reviews consist of my first impression but... not today. For the most part, everything is a hit here, every now and then they will throw a wrench into their dish by adding like pea puree during whatever season peas are a thing. My least favorite season is spring for them. I like summer, and love fall and winter. Especially the squash soup that they serve during the fall. It tastes like a savory candy. All of their main dishes are hits but the most consistent one (on the menu all year round) is obviously their burger. It truly is a delightful burger and you are safe getting it if you are a weak person who can't adventure out like me. The desserts have seemed to remain consistent all year. But the winner is the popcorn one... if you don't like caramel corn (pronounce kar-mul) just get the pudding or panacotta... trust me it is divine. THE VERDICT: I will actually be going here again in a couple of weeks. We go at least twice a year for fine dining. I have never been disappointed by a meal here... by a dish, absolutely... but you will always leave happy. Which is why I continue to go... and it is hard to get me to go anywhere besides In-n-out consistently. I was originally going to give this place a 4 (it is somewhere between 4-4.5) but after reading someone's dumb review I am giving it a 5. I noticed that the negative reviews of Block focus largely on service rather than food. Some reviewers seem particularly annoyed at having to wait for 10 minutes, for example, to order dessert or to be seated. I reserved in advance and had zero wait. As for waiting to order or to get food, this isn't fast food it's a night out, presumably with someone you want to be with and talk to. So do that while waiting. Now on to the food. Portions are perfect, flavors are strong but complex, ingredients are well sourced, and plating is aesthetically pleasing without being overwrought. We had an artichoke starter with a delicious tomato jam, a beetroot salad, gnocchi, pork loin, and the popcorn panna cotta. The variety of flavors was a delight. This may become a new go-to for a nice meal out and for visitors who want some local cuisine that proves we're not all about fry sauce and funeral potatoes. Finally, atmosphere is nice but the open layout can lead to a noisier atmosphere than you might desire for intimate dinners (for that, try to sit tucked in toward a corner or wall). In all, this is one of the nicest local dining experiences for quality without unnecessary fuss. read more

Completely blown away! Food, service, overall vibe, everything was spot on. Started with the charcuterie of course, the honey comb, prosciutto and all the other items were incredible. Got the curry cauliflower soup, everyone at our table tried some and were all extremely impressed, it's some of the best soup I've had in my life and I'm not exaggerating. The wagyu ribeye was cooked perfectly and paired very well with the polenta, highly recommend. Very good price for a wagyu steak and the portions were generous. Dinner ended on a high note with the blueberry dessert, the pastry was buttery and flakey. The waitress found out it was my birthday and brought out a personally signed card from all the employees and a free dessert of my choice, very thoughtful and nice! Provo is lucky to have such a great restaurant here. Will definitely be my choice for a nice dinner spot, I want to also come back and try the brunch I've heard so much about. 10/10 food and great overall experience! read more

My only complaint is that with my party of 6, there was quite a bit of confusion with our bills (items being placed on the wrong checks and cards given to the wrong person). We tried the pan seared chicken and gnocchi (I realize they change the menu regularly so take that into account). Everything was good, but half way through the meal my husband and I switched entrees because neither of us loved what we got. We may go back, but we'd order different entrees. The meet was cooked perfect! Tender, crispy, moist. I think I was expecting a creamier sauce for the gnocchi and the flavor was closer to beef stew.
