We absolutely love black 16. It is the best spot to grab some lunch in Omaha. We usually split a burger, but this time did the poutine burrito, and it did not disappoint! We also veered from the duck duck goose fries and tried the crab Rangoon fries. If you love crab Rangoon, then it's a must try. I thought it was a little too sweet, and will stick with the duck duck fries. However at any other restaurant it would be a top notch seller, just so much to compete with on this menu read more

When I walked in I thought the shape of the restaurant was quite odd but the more I got settled in and saw the other room I realized it wasn't that small. The line was long and the food took sorta long but I don't mind waiting if the food is good. The price for me and my boyfriend was 20$ so not to bad at all. I got the block burger (vegetarian version) and it was absolutely amazing. The pickles were so fresh. I wonder if they make them homemade! I liked how the onion wasn't a huge slice because I hate that at other places. The patty itself wasn't incredibly flavorful but it was still pretty damn good for not being meat. The fries were also stellar! My boyfriend enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich. I tried a tiny bit of the meat and it was really buttery and tender. Let me start by saying I have never eaten at this place. My review is prompted by the complete lack of customer service via phone. I have called this restaurant numerous times to get information about specials, get answers to questions about menu items, but most importantly to place a to-go order. No one has ever answered the phone. EVER. And here's the kicker: There is no recorded business greeting. At the very least, anyone would expect that when the phone rolls to voice mail, there would be a professional greeting that starts, "Hello and thank you for calling Block16, where our gourmet street food will delight your taste buds. Located on 16th and Farnam, we're here to serve you M - F from 11 a.m. . . . etc. But no. There is nothing like that. The last time I called, I got a recorded message that the voice mail box was full. What??? The other reason for this one-star review is that it is very clear, from the website and the FB page, that this lack of service via phone is by design. Contact information for most businesses is prominent and easy to find on websites and social media sites. You have to dig a bit to uncover the B16 phone number. Not that it's buried, but obviously not front and center. They are truly trying to avoid customer contact this way. And this cannot be excused away by the fact that they "are busy." It's just poor customer service. At some point, I would like to try a take out order from B16. I have a feeling I'll like the food. When that happens, I'll update this review and let you know. read more

Oh man, how can I not have reviewed this place before now? Yes, it's quite a haul to come down for lunch when you live within spitting distance of Gretna. But, it's so worth it. Even if I do have to pay to park. And then stand in line to order. And wait patiently for my food to be ready, thinking that every time the counter calls out a name, that it's my name they announced, only to have to be disappointed that the order up isn't for me. Somehow, when the food does arrive, that all disappears. It's so good! The sandwiches are delicious; the fries are perfect. I visited this place for lunch and as soon as we walked in, we were told a 25 minute wait. We proceeded to wait and it was well worth the wait. I had the pulled pork roll and sweet potato fries. The food was edible nothing great nothing bad. I do LOATHE being forced to use paper straws... "we're helping the environment by reducing our plastic" while 90% of the goods shipped in come in plastic, cups are plastic, utensils are plastic....I can see these guys ALL SELF-RIGHTEOUS patting themselves on the back for forcing paper straws onto people. Absolutely fantastic food! We ate a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes. They have vegan options for several of their entrees. My daughter and I had the Sloppy Jack. It was made with delicious, thick sliced bread for the bun and dragon sauce (I think) that provided a nice contrast to the sandwich filling (I think it was seitan). The vegan version of the dragon fries was delicious- we loved the Dragon sauce. My son had the House Salad with seitan. He said it was outstanding. My husband had the Poutine burrito which was vegetarian. It was filled with seitan, gravy, cheese curds, and tater tots. The total for our family of four was $45, which was very reasonable for such high-quality food. We all agreed that this is now one of our favorite restaurants in Omaha! read more

My wife pushed us into Block 16 from a suggestion by her friends. Thank God! They are reasonably priced, quick to serve, and absolutely delicious. Their sign is barely visible from the street so be sure to map it. When you walk up to the counter to order you will notice a great selection of local brew along with a tight menu with items such as burgers, wraps, and a sloppy joe. The Sloppy Nic changed my life. I almost cried. Seriously. It was glorious. If you are downtown and want a bite to eat, Block 16 will be the greatest decision you can make. It may not be in the old market but it's only a 5 minute walk. Alton Brown from the Food Network apparently said that the Garcon Burger is the best burger he's ever had. Pretty impressive for a small Omaha joint! Overall I would suggest Block 16 to anyone and everyone. Be prepared for a line out the door, the place is popular! read more

The fries are top notch and if you aren't feeling a burger, the Nashville hot chicken hits the spot. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is not that spicy but I figure they have to appease to the midwesterners so I'll give them a pass. I've tried Block 16 twice. I'm torn here. They have great ideas on the menu...but fails to translate to the plate. Feels more hipster than it deserves to be. FIRST VISIT- crowded, but not too bad. Food was good. But it's the little things, like stupid paper drinking straws that rub me wrong. SECOND VISIT- I order the sloppy joe on jalapeño cornbread. Forgot the name, but that's what I wanted. Also ordered another sandwich for a friend. As it was a 30 minute wait in line, I didn't pay attention to Mr Slow working the register. At the table, reviewing my receipt noticed that I was charged for and additional burger and side. I took my receipt to the attendant with a perplexed look, broke out the dusty calculator..."forget it!" I just gave the extra burger to another person near the back of the unending line. Oh!!! The food, environment and company I had made it an enjoyable experience. The staff was great. Didn't rush you even when it was already 10min last closing. Very pleasant. Self service where you order at the front and pick up your own food. They were pretty fast at getting everything prepped. The duck poutine was 2.5-3/5. Was spoiled by something similar in Boston. Unfortunately block 16 didn't impress me as much. Still a nice twist to try. The Salman wrap was delicious! Love the combo of something sour and sweet. The sloppy Nate despite being simple was also yummy. I'm not sure what else they put on the bread besides butter maybe, but it maintained its toastiness. The flavor or protein was also great. Great food, cute restaurant, good prices. We were in Omaha over the weekend and after reading reviews for this place, I had to check it out. It's a pity we got there about 10min before they closed(everything closes super early in Omaha it seems?) but they gave us our order to go anyways, which was fine. I ordered the grilled cheese, my fiance ordered the sloppy joe, and we shared an order of the duck duck goose fries. Everything was amazing. I'm a sucker for a good grilled cheese and they delivered. The bacon and brie combination was fantastic and the bread it was served on was top-notch. My fiance had nothing but good things to say about the sloppy joe and the fries.... well....the fries made the trip worth it by themselves. They didn't skimp on any of the ingredients and it was so freaking good. I wish they were open later than they are but that is my only complaint. The staff was very friendly. read more

I was coming through Omaha on my way to Lincoln, and stopped here after seeing some good reviews on Yelp. So glad I did. I found parking down the street, the walk to get here is nice, gives you a good feel for downtown Omaha. I walked in and was greeted from the bar with some menus, the ordering process seemed a little confusing, but I got it pretty quick. I wasn't super hungry, so I opted for the poutine, SO good. Very tradition with beef gravy, curds, and crispy fries. It truly hit the spot, I did not leave disappointed. The portion was pretty large as well, I didn't even finish it, and the prices were great, very fair. They even use compostable drinkware, so that was exciting. The restaurant is very warm and welcoming with a modern urban feel, and the decor really matched with the style of food. Service was great. Overall, a wonderful experience. Although the first time I went here I was super disappointed by the crab rangoon fries (they're spicy not sweet and nothing resembling crab rangoon), I'm still giving this place 5 stars. The burgers are fantastic. Since our first visit we've been back a few times and tried other options on the menu. We've been very happy with everything else so far. Tried Block 16 for the first time with my family last weekend. We stopped by Saturday at 11:30. When we came in, the line was short. Within 20 minutes the line was out the door! Great ambiance and decorations, but seating is definitely in short supply during busy times. My dad got the Pulled Pork sandwich and after trying that, I wish I would have gotten the same thing! The meat was so tender and accompanied by delicious condiments. We also tried the Dragon Wrap and the prime rib sandwich. We had both the sweet potato fries and regular fries, which were delicious. I wanted to try some of the more adventurous fries but the sandwich was indulgent enough that some of the fries mentioned in other reviews would have been too much food. Overall a great stop! In town for a concert and needed to grab food and a beer in a relaxed, though , quick atmosphere. Counter service with food truck food. We arrived shortly after they re-opened at 5. Nobody there. By the time our food arrived there was a line out the door. They make food fresh, so it took about 20-30 minutes, but it was worth it. I got the dragon wrap with chicken ( extremely flavorful ) and the crab Rangoon fries ( as advertised if you are a crab Rangoon fan, get this!). Let's say you're going out for a lunch, but you want to try something new, different, but not too outside the comfort zone of a picky eater. B16. Let's say you're vegan, but your significant other is a carnivore. I think you can see where we're going. Block 16 has a dynamic, seasonally changing menu with a set of weekend and daily lunch specials that you might have to be ID'ed to see on Facebook. (Food Porn. That's the joke.) Every single item on the menu is worth trying in many of their forms. For awhile, I considered it my personal journey to try every different special, every different item on the menu in many of their forms. the Vegan options taste fantastic, even to a non-vegan. The poutines and fry platters are completely decadent. I have a friend who makes a weekly pilgrimage to get the Duck-Duck-Goose, while I can't understand why he would try something other than the Dragon Fries. There is no end to the creativity that this little shop creates, and is quickly becoming a social hub in Omaha for millennials, food critics, and adventurous eaters alike. No place is without fault. So there are two things that every person needs to know before walking through these doors. 1. This place gets busy. Fast. Don't expect the special to still be around more than 45 minutes after their doors open. Also, since it's busy, it will get loud. Space is still an issue. Yummy and hit the spot. We had burgers with egg, ham and truffle aioli. I would have liked my ham thrown on a griddle and a bit brown but it was still delicious. The truffle flavor on the aioli was not detectable, would have enjoyed a bit more of that. Bun was overly floured and I kept inhaling it but was too good to stop eating. We ordered a side of pickles, fountain cokes and poutine... all were yummy. The brown gravy on the poutine was box-ish but we liked it, the only thing that would have made it better would have been crispy tater tots instead (but we were sightly hungover so crisp fried hash brown type things always sound better). There were lots of tasty sounding options on the menu. The ambiance is fun, simple, pleasing, clean, with a mod and antique mix. on the last day of a three day business trip to Omaha, I had to try out block 16. The wife came here the day before... today she joined me and ate here again. let me just start with a bit of a disclaimer, I've eaten at literally the best restaurants in the world, noma, arzak... I've eaten my way through some of the most acclaimed food cites, Tokyo, San Sebastián... and I live in one of the most progressive food centric areas in the world, San Francisco and the Napa valley wine country is our back yard.... long way of saying, I've eaten a lot in my life..... and though I can appreciate a foraged piece of sea vegetation.... sometimes you just want a burger done right. This place reminds me of how the food scene was in the San Francisco Bay Area around 2005, just good food done right. Take care of your ingredients and it will show. Take the time to maximize flavor, your dishes will shine. I see why people line up... actually, other than the airport, this was the only place I saw a line at in Omaha.
