Bloc is surely a contender for best all- round place to eat and drink in town. Not only is it always a fantastic small, well- stocked, busy bar but it also A) puts on gigs and djs of the most eclectic variety possible almost every night of the week, paying the bands AS WELL AS feeding them and giving them beers (this combination is almost unheard of) whilst keeping the gigs free entry AND providing a soundman and decent sound system. B) does fantastic food. Different special offer (incredibly cheap) every weekday, steak one day, burger another, so on and so forth but the standard menu is superb in itself. I can recommend the döppelganger hot dog: a meat- on- meat- on- meat feast smothered in relish, mustard and jalapenos with fries... For £7.95?! To coin a phrase, unbelievable scenes. Step aside hot dog, the NOT DOG's in town! Whilst the city's just bursting with vegan and vegetarian options, none quite match the punches thrown by Bloc's almighty Not Dog. Having drooled over pictures of the infamous dog in question, this dripping-with cheese-sauce and piled-high-with-toppings wonder was everything I'd hoped it'd be. Just like a good burger, meat-free dining can be every bit as oozing, messy, juicy, dirty; the Not Dog is testament to that. Heck, I think this may well be the most inventive vegetarian offering in town, hands down. And one I'd happily go for over a meaty alternative. Any day. With their signature homemade veggie dog, avocado cheese sauce, quorn chilli, toasted walnuts, dried apricots, torn mint and French's mustard, there's a whole lot going on and, although I would never think to combine the ingredients together myself, it works so well together and the result is a damn tasty dog. The toppings made for a really interesting combination of textures and flavours and I savoured every bite; this lunch was one I wanted to tell everyone about. - It's true, the Not Dog really is a foodie force to be reckoned with. And I'll be back for another and another and another. I'm shying from those five shiny stars because service was on the slower side of slow. And they forgot my order, meaning I had to watch two friends wolf down their dogs whilst my stomach growled. - It was already a very, very late lunch, and my not dog only just arrived as my friends were finishing up. Looking for a cheap meal to enjoy whilst catching up with a friend, some fellow Yelpers sent me in the direction of Bloc. For some reason, I've only ever been to Bloc for gigs, and it's never quite been on my radar for food. I now realise the error of my ways! They seem to have load of great, incredibly cheap offers on certain foods all through the week, that we have endeavored to start working our way through. I would say though, and this is my only real qualm, that you must make sure to get down early before they sell out! In the time between our drinks arriving and ordering, the £3 burger had sold out! And this was only at 7pm. All the same, we had set our sights on a burger and opted for the classic 'just a burger', with some extra toppings (swiss cheese and caramelised onions for me, only £1 each). The waitress informed us that the main difference is that the cheap burger doesn't come in a brioche bun, or with any of the house relish etc. I'm a brioche burger nut so maybe this all worked out for the best. We also ended with an extravagant peanut bomb each, which by rights we could have just shared, as we did end up very very full (but satisfied!). With all the great burger options in Glasgow I was almost waiting for disappointment, but Bloc really lived up to the competition. Service was casual, but speedy and attentive. We were checked in on through the evening, and had some friendly chat from the staff. I've had some experience of ordering at the bar on a quiet night and being more or less ignored despite being the only person waiting, so this was a pleasant turn around from some previous visits. 2 courses of food devoured, a gin and tonic each, and even and extra burger patty for my dinner partner, and we ate heartily for only £30! So, I finally made it in to Bloc+ for a cheap burger meal, that ended up not being very cheap. I get the whole concept of a cheap burger and chips for £3, but the quality of the food just wasn't as great as everyone makes it out to be. Not even for £3. To start, nothing to even do with the food, but when ordering drinks, everyone ordered booze or canned soda, so I went with a diet coke. Seeing they had cans on offer, I was excited because usually at a pub, you're given flat soda in a pint glass but here they offer you crisp, unopened cans of soda. To my dismay, however, I was given a pint of diet coke, not flat, I'll give them that, but well over a quid more than what my friends paid for their cans. I wasn't asked what size I wanted, but to be fair, neither was anyone else. I was kinda bummed out. Anyway, not a huge deal. The food was just meh in my eyes. I'm never one to order just a plain burger, so I knew I wasn't going to get off just paying £3 for a burger and chips and I was ok with this. So, I ordered a £3 with blue cheese and bacon for an extra £2.50. The blue cheese was a small wedge partially melted on to the burger, yums! The bacon, however, we were told when ordering, was 'of course always crispy' but when we got our burgers, we noticed, that it was just normal bacon you'd find on a fry up. Not crispy and resembling ham. Boo! Such high expectations and excitement after being told our bacon would be crispy. Sophie K. and I went back to Bloc the following friday after the burger night for £4 hot dog night. Not over the moon excited based on our burger night, we reserved a table, ordered some drinks (this time ciders) and decided on just a plain hot dog and some 'scheme' poutine. Dare I say that IKEA hot dogs are so much better than these hot dogs and they only cost a quid?! It's true though. The hot dogs at Bloc were weird. Brown skin, and florescent pink insides. The buns were actually better quality than I expected and toasted to boot! The chips were a little warmer than they were on burger night, and the poutine was not my favourite at all. The onion gravy and shredded cheddar cheese sounded like it could be good, but there were huge gelatinous gobs of gravy all in the poutine- it was obvious the gravy had either been sitting a while, or the mix wasn't properly mixed in. Either way, it was pretty gross having to pick them out of the poutine. I'd say a huge plus to Bloc is the music they play. I had some crazy flashbacks listening to some of the albums they played (Offspring, Green Day, Tenacious D, Lily Allen). Such a random selection of music that they play in full album blocks. The wait staff is hit of miss. It's always super busy, so service can be a bit slow. The signs at the bar to not order at the bar because you won't get served is a bit off putting, but didn't stop me from taking the bill up to pay after waiting longer than I felt I needed to. Vicky A. and I met up to blow off steam and to catch up over a few drinks and some food, so in the spirit of adventure we decided to try Bloc+ - neither of us had visited since we left uni so we were keen to investigate the changes in menu. There's a lot of hype around the Classy Street Trash food from the Mad Chef so we zeroed in on the burgers straight away. Both of us opted to try the infamous Durty Burger, a burger topped with slaw, bacon frazzles, cheese and salad, served with fries and burger gravy. Wow! Well... Kinda. I prefer my burger and fries separate, not with the burger oozing all over my chips. Yes that's slightly OCD but it's just my preference! The fries were lovely and needed no seasoning; the burger gravy was beefy and flavourful, if a little too salty, but again, that's my personal taste. On to the main feature; the Durty burger. It was nice, but I have to admit I didn't quite get the hype. I felt all the toppings overwhelmed the burger and made it difficult to ascertain the quality of the burger itself. It at least looked juicy and beefy! The frazzles would have been a nice addition if they maintained more of a crunch, and the addition of slaw and sauce made the whole burger very wet and messy. On the drinks side, there was a pretty good selection, but I felt everything was a little pricey. This might have been because I still see Bloc as a student favourite, which I thought would mean purse friendly but our 2 pints cost £10! Owch! We left well-fed but a bit meh. My friends fondly refer to me as the "Burger Queen", which is not a role which I take lightly. Having sampled a fair few burgers in the Glasgow area in my time I always find myself returning to Bloc. The place itself is pretty "grungy" and nearly always busy thanks to their decent food promos throughout the week. In my experience I've always found the staff to be pretty pleasant, even when they're clearly rushed off their feet! Service is quick, which is probably why it's my venue of choice for a quick bite that's a little bit more substantial. On a Tuesday night you can grab a burger for £3, which despite having to pay extra for toppings is still a fantastic deal. I'd easily call their burgers the best in Glasgow - juicy, flavourful and easy to eat. I tend to opt for caramelised onions & cheddar cheese, whilst my OH goes for haggis, bacon, cheese & peppercorn sauce. Both are amazing, as you'd expect from the 5 star rating! Served with some perfectly seasoned skinny fries (and a portion of nachos on the side...) they make a pretty damn good meal. The rest of the menu does appear to be quite impressive, and maybe one day I'll get round to trying some of it, but in the mean time I can barely walk past the place without dreaming of a big, juicy burger. They have a great selection of vegan options, as well as some great specials from time to time. Although I've visited Bloc a fair few times, it's nearly always been for food. Boo to this place! It's a bar they serve food and it was 8:14 p.m. however due to some weird rule they enforce, anyone 16 and younger can not be in the restaurant. So we had to Brexit out of there as my 16 year old was with us. Bloc+ is like that old friend you go through phases of catching up with, you see each other regularly for weeks on end and then suddenly life gets in the way. After months of organising and failed planning you finally meet up after what seems like a life time to find that things are still as comfortable as when you left them. This is one of my favourite places to go for a drink in Glasgow, with good music and pizza available until 3am what is not to love???? The added bonus of patio heaters for those of us non smokers that get dragged out into the cold to keep friends company just tips the scales for me. Although I agree with most reviews that the place could do with a bit of a spring clean it still offers an environment suitable for a relaxing drink. read more

I always enjoy going to Bloc+ for some grub. Yes there are many a burger place in Glasgow and bars doing tbe same sort of food but no where has as much variety especially at such a reasonable price. I've been here quite a few times now, always something different and always tasty. Yesterday I had the 'not dog' even though I'm not veggie purely because it pops up constantly in those lists of things you should eat in Glasgow etc all the time. It was actually epic. This is a gem of a bar,hidden down in a basement location on Bath Street ,it's just a short walk from Sauchiehall Street - just look for the flashing red plus sign! There are daily specials for food so far we've tried the "burger Tuesday" which at £3 for a decent well cooked (cooked medium just as it should be!) 6oz burger with a generous helping of well seasoned fries and a dollop of slaw you really cannot go wrong at this price. With a fantastic range of craft and imported beers (some bottled, some on tap) at a decent price it really is a place worth seeking out. If you are into live indie music, rock or pop this great intimate venue has a live band or DJ of some sort everyday for you to intimidate your eardrums with! Also something to watch out for is the "Mad Chef" Audio Beef theme night where Chef Danny and crew get half the bar to hold a night of great themed food and drinks with a real party atmosphere! So we are a bit late to this party, everyone has been raving about the burgers that are coming out of this kitchen and it's time we try it! Firstly if you are planing to go here between Thursday and Sunday I would recommend booking as it gets very busy! The menu is pretty awesome I changed my mind several times but in the end I went for the hotdog! Served up with chips this is the best hotdog I've ever had. Along with the dog the bun was rammed with pulled pork, jalapeños, chilli, bacon and loads of cheese. The chips were cook just perfectly crispy with a nice coating. A bar I never fancied eating in has turned up to the burger and hotdog party. This is definitely one of my favourite places to eat in Glasgow. As a vegetarian I loved the number of options I had and my boyfriend still had just as many meaty choices. The best part was they were priced equally. The staff were super friendly and attentive. Loved the atmosphere. Although it was kind of dark of a lunch date it was really cool. A good range of drinks. My favourite thing on the menu was the peanut bomb dessert! I can't get over it. Best pudding I've ever had. Hidden away on Bath St, Bloc is one of my go-to places in the city if I am ever in need of a quick bite to eat for two. I dropped in for lunch a couple of weeks back and decided to step away from my usual Not Dog (I know, right. Rookie error.) and instead opted for the two pizzas for £9 option. We ordered a Ham and Pineapple (look, get off my back. Hawaiian is a totally respectable pizza to order) and a BBQ Chicken with Peppers. Both were delicious with nice crispy bases, if a little on the small side, but I can't really complain for the price. Also, if I am being over critical, it needs more cheese. Not loads, just a bit more. The service, as ever, was friendly and happy to give advice on portion sizes and possible side dishes (Poutine is essential), and I like a booth. I like Bloc. The food isn't too fussy and they have tons of food deals through the week. Give it as whirl. read more

Bloc+ is excellent for quick drinks before a night out or a swift few after work. The decor is very basic, no frills here but the laid back nature of Bloc+ is why it's so popular. Drink prices aren't too expensive and it's just a nice place to sit and have a chat/bitch/moan/catch up. I came here a few weeks ago and haven't been for years, not much has changed to be honest and I felt like I'd never been away. We were having a great night until a band started to warm up and holy crap they were awful. What's more, because it's so small I felt like the drum was inside my ear because of how loud it was. Not only could I not hear what my friends were saying, I thought I was actually going to go deaf and I think everyone else in the place thought the same because within ten minutes about half the people originally there had left. People did start to pour in though but I'm guessing it was probably family members and friends of the tone deaf band. read more

Really into this place lately. Main reason for this review update is their amazing grub promos with deals on every night of the week. It's £3 burgers on Tuesdays and £5 Sirloin steak on Wednesdays, for example. And they make city life a bit more enjoyable mid-week. Both deals are dynamite value, mega recommended! Bloc is principally a music venue, with gigs on almost every night of the week. It has a no nonsense decor and super friendly bar staff. The prices are reasonable for Bath Street standards as well. Went to Bloc today for part 1 of their vegan food wars (part 2 next week) and was not disappointed. Menu was: Course 1: Panko breaded tofu with spiced mint and orange chutney Course 2: Black bean ramen burger Course 3: Rum infused chocolate mousse with chia seeds and agave nectar The panko tofu was lovely! I'm a real fan of pretty much anything to do with panko so this was always going to be a no brainer. The chutney was lovely. Not too spicy and it gave a nice dipping sauce to go with the delicious tofu. I had seen a picture of the ramen burger before attending and to be honest it didnt look too nice. In reality though it was lovely! The burger part tasted like a mushroom haggis and the ramen "bun" was really crispy and tasty! The salad which came with it would have benefited from a dressing but was nice enough. The pudding was delicious. I'm not really a fan of chia seeds but they were not overpowering at all and gave a nice touch to break up the chocolate. The rum wasnt too strong as to not be enjoyable and it was a lovely way to end part 1 of the war! Together with really friendly staff and a great choice of music I think Bloc might become a regular of mine! Given they serve vegan white Russians this is very likely! read more

I go to Bloc rather a lot. Why , I hear you ask? Because the food is amazing, it's dead reasonably priced, and I am the greediest of pigs. A couple of days ago I went for lunch with my dad and decided to try the durty burger for the first time, and it seriously didn't disappoint; the patty was juicy, the slaw crunchy and fresh, and the durty gravy was massively tasty. If you like to eat with dignity don't bother, this is designed to be torn into cave person style. Messy, naughty and just tasty as sin. For a burger sub ten pounds, that comes with fries, I really don't think you'll get any better in the city centre. I doubt I'll be away for long, and it's only been two days! I may be wrong but Bloc+ is something of a Bath Street institution. Renowned for it's late night pizzas the addition of the Classy Street Trash Menu has really seen it up it's culinary game. The portions tend to be generous and the fries are usually good. I like going for a few quiet drinks, (Blue Moon on tap) and a scran either at the start or end of a night out. As many of us will know there are many gigs to be had at Bloc+ so it's worth remembering that if you're going for a quiet drink to check their event calender as it can get very loud during gig time. Bloc can be a bit busy on a weekend evening and sometimes it is full of hipsters listening to dire, extremely loud and irritating live music, but when it's not like that it's a great place to have a few drinks (Punk IPA on draft!). During the day/early evening it's also a fab place to eat, particularly with the new menu on. Last time I was in on a Saturday afternoon i had their steak fries - basically a basket of really nice chips, topped with a generous portion of steak strips, cooked the way you like. I always eat rare steak and it was v nicely done, not overcooked at all, still nice and bloody. The peppercorn sauce was amazing, and i had to stop my boyfriend from stealing it all! The daily specials are cheap and a great option for lunch if you're in the city centre (the steak is a personal favourite) However, today I had the doppelgänger and my life has been changed. It's a proper hot dog, wrapped in bacon, covered in chilli, pulled pork and then cheese sauce. It's the most flavoursome thing I've put in my face all week. Bloc is a bit of a starting point for me and the lads but we've never eaten there before last night. I'd heard there was a new chef installed and heard good things about the burgers and dogs! MY GOD! They weren't wrong. I ordered the Doppelgänger Dog, it was so good! The dog itself was quite hefty and a thing of beauty, further enhanced by the smoky bacon, chilli, jalapeños, cheddar and the gorgeous shredded pork. The fries, were, well fries, good but not amazing. They maybe need to jazz these up a bit to compliment the amazing food now on offer. I enjoyed spending an evening here with some fellow Yelpers on a Yelp event. The atmosphere was good, the service was fast and friendly, and the food was good. It was Burger Night, so I ordered the special burger for £3, and it was a very tasty burger, especially considering its price. It comes with chips too. All in all, a very enjoyable experience. I gave four stars because I think the place is too small for live music, and I can't imagine I could carry on a conversation with someone while having dinner if a band is playing - it would be ok if there were a dance floor, or if the music started somewhat later, when people aren't likely to be eating anymore. read more

A doppelgänger and a not dog. I had the pleasure of getting to eat half the not dog too. Both tasted great and the doppelgänger came with all the meats which I liked, but I need to be honest and say I preferred the spiciness of the not dog. Bloc is looking like a regular drinking hole for me now after seeing the new look! We went based on reviews of mad chefs furious food. Inside is cosy and it is a lot cleaner nowadays. They do deals everyday for super cheap food. We went on a tuesday which was £3 for a normal burger and chips. Unfortunately my boyfriend has had his eye on the durty burger for a while so he got that. But £8.95 WITH chips is pretty good compared to other burger joints. I wanted a hot dog with no bacon or cheese and the chef was happy to do so and charge me less. The presentation was amazing and the taste was good too! Soviet-themed Bloc is decorated in a predictably stark manner. It is appropriately loacted down a flight of steep stairs to basement level. Last time I visited, it was packed out, with no seats available at the benches. I found the atmosphere to be a bit cliquey. I got the feeling that I wasn't quite cool enough to be there: an average looking girl in a sea of asymmetrical haircuts and androgeny. Cool pub in the centre of Glasgow with a very cool atmosphere. The food was great, and reasonably priced. Friendly staff also. We had the pizza deal, 2 pizza's for £9 and the nachos with beef and cheese. Really recommend the smoked sausage as topping on your pizza, surprisingly delicious! Closely linked with the local music scene, Bloc often has bands playing in the corner, cheered on by the young arty crowd that populate it. This is a basement bar on fashionable Bath Street, but where most of the nearby bars are rather upmarket and appeal to city yuppies, it's all about the music here. There's a scruffy look to the place which gives it a edge rather than making it look unattractive. I particularly like the simple food - tasty home-made pizzas & burgers and drink deals (Tiger Beer was only £1.50 when last I went!) Alongside the sharp, knowledgeable staff, Bloc feels a little different and is a good alternative when on Bath Street. read more

They're burgers are better than any of the big chains in the centre and half the price. They also have a good mix of beers, some really good craft stuff and some of the more run-of-the-mill mainstream drinks too. Where to start? I've been regularly (multiple times per week on a good month) visiting Bar Bloc for 11 years. That's 11 years of enjoying it as a bar, a restaurant, an event space and treating it like my living room for hanging out with friends. First up, the drinks. Oh, the drinks. Bloc has been providing quality beers since the start but now boosts a nice little variety of craft beers, ciders, old favourites and all the spirits you could need. They make a mean white Russian too. Recommend - Punk IPA, Monolith Bellwether IPA (a locally brewed bottle full of citra hops) or a nice bourbon. The food. The mad chef. Da bomb. Bloc's menu is great. The burgers are dirty, the pizza's customisable, the vegan options immense. There is also the bonus of the daily special. On a Wednesday, it's £5 for a delicious steak cooked to your liking, fries, tomato, mushroom and peppercorn sauce. IF you are not out eating this, you are missing out. The Tuesday burger day (beef or veggie) is £3 and I don't understand how they afford this but THANK YOU BLOC! The gigs and club nights are free, always. This includes local bands, local nights and bands from all over the globe. I've heard punk, pop, rock and metal all played. It's a small space and it'll make your ears bleed but in a good way! The club nights are varied and suit everyone. There LGBT centred nights are awesome. There is also Blochestra! Blocs very wn indie orchestra. They cover your favourite songs and will make you want to hear their version instead. There is nowhere else in Glasgow I will ever love more than Bloc. read more

Popped in here for lunch today, was dragged in as I wasn't sure to be honest but ended up loving it. Only got a chicken burger but it was really tasty and really hit the spot, great for a quick lunch and will defo be back read more

With trepidation we joined the mass of students, most 30 years younger than us, creating the noise and buzz in Bloc. Wednesday night is Steak night and for a fiver each we had rump steak, seasoned fries, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and pepper sauce. All of this was washed down with a very acceptable £10 bottle of red. On spying Buckfast Ice Cream on the menu we felt it would be rude to let, what might be, a once in a lifetime chance to try it pass us by. It proved to be delicious!! Service was exceptional and food arrived quickly despite the queue waiting for tables. We will definitely return! read more
