    The burger
    Stephen F.

Went in for a veggie burger with a mate after work. We had a nice time and a decent burger. The chips weren't great, just naff fries, and my burger bun was somewhat over toasted, but I like the beanie smooshy burger in between. Ad Lib was at the forefront of Glasgow's gourmet burger charge and it also doubles as a pretty decent we post dining bar. So, despite the fries and over toasted bun I give it 4 stars.

We also shared a giant endless pot of tea. This place is really a special place, the day's menu is full of charm, and the service is excellent. When I was there, the dining area was quiet with plenty of available seating, definitely not a cramped place! I hope to return sometime, it was a great experience, food and all. I liked it so much I picked up a couple of their shirts to keep the memory.

The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.

As a bar it is decent, seems a bit rough about the edges in a dive bar type of way, but the clientele usually are ok and the atmosphere always seems pleasant enough. It's got a lot going on, In that there is a club down stairs, food is served upstairs and there is also a lot of focus on it just being a pub. I've been a good few times and it's usually mobbed. I think that's partly because there ain't any other decent pubs on queen street (that I can think of) and it means everyone heads here. In other areas it might not be my first destination, but where it is it ranks quite highly amongst the places I would stop for a pint if passing. Sometimes it even has some unusual bottles of craft beer hidden in the fridges which is always a good thing. Could be a three on anther street, but a better option on queen street, so I will go with a positive 4 stars.

Now it's a big decision to make when you're deciding where to go for your birthday breakfast…read more However every time I've seen a Roasters update on Instagram or Facebook I've said 'Yup, going there for my bday'. The bonus was also that they open at 8am which was perfect for me finishing after nightshift. Got parked no bother right outside (remember free parking on Sundays in the city centre!). Almost cried when we walked in and the waitress said there was no chef yet and she didn't know where he was. Took the brave decision to have a drink and wait on the chef coming (he did fairly soon after thank god!). Roasters are notorious for their freakshakes and being slightly peanut butter daft I just had to! It was so good moreso at 8.15am. It was somehow not too sickly and the peanut taste came over really well without being overpowering. I'd already decided I'd wanted pancakes so decided to go for the mix and match. The raspberry and white chocolate was by far my favourite - such a fab combo! I added banana to the Nutella pancakes which was definitely a good shout. The Oreo creme pancake was a big disappointment. It was so overly sickly with the whipped cream on top that I couldn't even stomach it. The portion sizes were unreal. The pancakes were bigger than my head!! I'm an absolute gannet and always polish my plate clean but I just couldn't. Probably only managed about half before I started feeling like a lie down! I cannot wait to come back and try some of their savoury options - the grilled cheeses look particularly good! Only one gripe is that it was freezing in there but that was probably a good idea considering I started getting sweats from the sugar overload.

I called in one morning just for a coffee to go as l had to be elsewhere not long after. There where no cakes on offer or snacks in view but hey they have only been here a day or two and I'm sure when they settle in they will have everything sorted and looking nice. Atmosphere It felt that this place is still a working progress and there are quite a few things that needed finishing of but l did like the colour scheme that was chosen, it did stand out. Food I did take a glance at the menu and glad that it's not me cooking as it looked like a lot of items and ingredients and that equals to a lot of faffing about especially in a small kitchen than keeping things basic they're rather fancy but l suppose you have to be different than the other competitors. I will be back soon and spot what has been changed.

We ordered the jerk chicken starter and the chicken wings to start, both were really tasty and a great size for a starter. We then both had fish tacos for main course, considering these are £10.95 on the normal menu these were definitely worthy the money. The fish was perfectly cooked and came with the right amount of avocado on top. We also ordered a portion of fries to share, which where skinny chips, and agin really tasty. The deserts were an additional £3 extra and the cheesecake was definitely worth a try. The service was great and the girl left us to chat after desert before asking if we needed the bill. Looking through the cocktail menu, THEY HAVE SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM. I'll definitely be coming back soon. Food wise, we ordered the Ultimate Sharing Platter which came with onion rings, stuffed potato skins, BBQ chicken wings and nachos, served with a selection of dips. Everything was cooked perfectly and we loved everything. Definitely no complaints. For £15.50, it is excellent value. Staff were friendly and really attentive, providing water for the table and making sure we were looked after. We had a look at the dessert menu (I was tempted by the Key Lime Pie) but we were so full from the platter we decided to give it a miss. Will definitely be back for cocktails soon!

The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty.
