I went to Bliss Nails and Bar for the second time tonight with my girlfriend and we both got really nice sets done. The problem was the very first initial interaction I had. When I first walked in, I greeted the man whom I knew to be the owner with a smile and wave and he just looked at me. I thought that maybe maybe it was because I was a couple minutes late or that he didn't really know me, so I kind of brushed it off. But as I was greeting my friend who was already there and a nail tech whom I've seen before, he just kept pressing for me to sit down. No greeting, no nothing. I thought "OK we're getting down to business." He took a look at the nails I had gotten done last time at this very exact nail salon, saw that I was missing one nail on my pointer finger, looked at the butterfly wing designs I had, and proceeded to tell me that "sorry they could not fill this design here." I was stunned for a second because I had not even told him what I wanted done, or had been asked what I came in for. I said "that's OK, I'll be getting a new design anyway." And then I said also told him I got this design done here. He did not acknowledge that, but proceeded to then just start polishing off my nail design. He then asked if I wanted it filled or dipped, and honestly, I did not know the difference and I felt too rushed to ask for it to be explained. So I just said yes to whatever he was suggesting. And then his wife came over who is also the owner and started talking to him in Vietnamese. She was very calm and greeted me kindly. He asked me what designs I wanted and I pulled up the designs I had pre-selected on my phone. He then said no we cannot do those designs because they are for long nails and your nails are going to be short. He had asked me what length I wanted previous and I did tell him short. So he just kept telling me no to all the designs I wanted and I thought OK, I guess we can't work this out. I didn't care enough to put up a fight so I just said I would do a different color with sparkles. He then was like OK pick out your color. Absolutely no empathy or trying to work with what I had suggested. His wife then spoke to him in more Vietnamese, and he proceeded to say English in a very LOUD and WHINY voice that "no it's because she wants them too short." I can only presume that she was discussing why the design wasn't going to be happening. And after he filed off my nails super quickly so much so that some of it hurt due to the friction and the heat, he then got up, stormed off, and left the building completely. She then took over and was extremely polite. Worked with me to help decide on a design I would want and then proceeded to freehand and mix a design to my satisfaction. It was a very lovely experience with her and the other nail tech who was working on my friend. I just cannot get over the fact that this was my second experience at this place and he treated me as if I was a throwaway customer. I looked over at my friend multiple times regarding the way he was talking to me and being so dismissive. I will not be frequenting this establishment again, and can only hope that those after me continue to receive amazing service by the lovely ladies there. I just don't think I could walk in there again, see him, and be happy to be there. :( read more

I wish I could select zero stars. Had to go twice because my pedicure chipped the next day. While the full bar is cool, it isn't enough to make up for the unfriendly technicians and the lack of quality. I have gotten pedicures before that last at least 2 weeks but not even 2 days?! When I called they were able to squeeze me in to get it fixed but were not friendly or even apologetic about it. I was asked several times who had done my pedicure and I didn't see her in the room so another technician took care of me and looked utterly annoyed to do so. I wish I would've tried them sooner! The guy who did my nails was really nice and funny. Got the length and shape PERFECT and soaked my last set off super quick. from start to finish with a soak off, tips, and dip I was in and out in just over an hour! They have a TON of dip options (almost 250) and they're laid out in a book so it's easy to find what you want. The nail salon itself was clean and looks very upscale. There are TVs but the sound isn't on and the music playing was fun top 40 kind of stuff. There's also a bar inside, which people were getting drinks from - I heard someone say theirs was really good, although I didn't get anything. Definitely my new go to nail spot!! read more

We were in Des Moines prior to a vacation. We wanted to get our nails done before the trip. On my birthday nonetheless. Read reviews online, we felt like we were making a good choice. Poor poor quality 4 days later. A nail bar huh? Do you not offer drinks? My entire appt was rushed from the second we entered. Rushed to pick a color. Rushed to sit, the entire manicure took 20mins. My cuticles are destroyed. The entire nails aren't even shellac. Uneven, not even covering the entire nail. I wasn't going for the ombré look. But apparently that's what I got even after asking. I'm sorry your "regular client" after me was more your priority. Regular client or not you should still give everyone the same treatment. 10/10 do not recommend. $50 wasted. My Walmart $5 press on nails look and last better than these! read more

I was able to get in on the same day, but the service was very poor. The nail tech kept singing about what was wrong with my nails. She was filing my dipped nails way too short and rough. She caught me with a sharp edge and I jerked my hand away from the she kept saying it was because I cut them too short. I tried this place as I received a gift card and overall, had a pleasant experience. I am not sure this is a place that takes walk ins? I called the day before or morning of and couldn't get the time I wanted and everyone that checked in, also had a reservation, so I would highly suggest making one vs popping in. Unlike most nail salons, this had a bar area and the person tending bar was also the host amd checked everyone in. No one asked me what kind of service I wanted so I ended up with a basic manicure with gel polish. I actually wanted a different package, but, I guess not? My nail technician was very friendly and it appeared in this short time, they had regulars and knew them by name. Everything appeared clean and sterile with fresh items out of packaging and covers on the foot soak basins. Speaking of covers, if you order a drink, they put a cover on it and give you a straw to help keep dust, etc...from getting in there. The downside was parking. It's located off court, so everything is paid parking. So, this location must cater to the neighborhood. The host working that day was ok, she wasn't helpful with me being a newbie and seemed miffed that she was busy and didn't really acknowledge me for a bit since ahe was busy with phones, filling other drinks, etc..I would have appreciated a wave of acknowledgement or "be with you in moment. I would say the prices are comparable to most other nail salons. But, even to pay to park, I would try it again as it was generally a relaxing experience and I didn't feel rushed so that they could get to the next person in line. They were very specific about making sure we got the correct services we wanted. I didn't get a drink, but they really do have an extensive bar! This place is fantastic! The service is great from the moment you walk in. They have a fantastic drink selection. And they have all types of colors and gel options. I don't use gel on my toes, but it was enticing especially in the winter with boots. I recommend the upgraded pedicure. There is a basic one, upgrade and then a deluxe. I chose the upgraded. My goodness! My feet are so soft and I almost fell asleep during the leg massage. It was so good. The staff is excellent and the prices are reasonable for the service. Worst nail experience EVER. "Cc" cut my hands and blamed me for moving. The guy overflowed the tub for my feet spilling water all over my sisters purse and shoes and socks. They didn't offer any resolution and the price was very unreasonable. Asked for water several times and they took an hour. Whole experience took 3 miserable hours. Very expensive. Very rude. I wish you could give zero stars. We walked in and were't greeted or acknowledged for at least thirty minutes. Finally we stop them and ask if we can have a drink, they were out of the kind of wine I requested and left a half poured glass of the backup on the counter for another ten minutes. While they had served one of my friends already. (We called and made reservations so none of this should have been the case) After we get the drinks and pick our colors based on us asking how to pick them out/what books and them telling us-- and find out they gave us the wrong books. (It took them another fifteen to get us the right ones) I'm sitting in the pedi chair and all of a sudden my water starts overflowing. It overflows onto my socks, boosts, my friends converse and her purse. They didn't even acknowledge that it was bad and guilt tripped us when we suggested that the wine be free for the inconvenience. -- saying that we were trying to "charm" them into free wine. Fast forward and my friend is getting her nails done -- the girl doing it is on her headphones on the phone; and doing her own acrylic nails in between doing my friends. When my friend asked if they could be even on both hands she snapped at her and said, I know what I'm doing. Ten minutes go by and my friend gets cut by the nail girl. When she was in pain saying, "am I bleeding, did you just cut me?" The girl snaps back saying, it's your fault I told you not to move. Finally three hours later from when we walk in for mini pedis--- the manager lady says here let me take your cards I'll close you out. She didn't give us an itemized receipt or offer a discount for any of the many inconveniences. When we signed our bills were each around $100. For a mani pedi and one glass of wine. On top of all of this, my toes are uneven and didn't get a top coat on the left foot and my friend's nails look absolutely horrible. (Even tho her nail person said she knew how to do nails) When I put my socks back on they were still soaking. They didn't even offer to dry them. It's winter in Iowa so that obviously wasn't comfortable the rest of the night. This place is a cool concept but their staff is under qualified and are lacking any sort of customer skills. 5 stars, every single time! I've been there at least a dozen times now and have amazing service every time! I'm a big fan of their other location (Knockout Nails in WDM) and so I knew I would love this one. They have a full bar with fun drinks! The bartenders are quick to serve and refill you! They get SO busy, especially after work times and Friday/Saturday. Highly recommend making a reservation first before heading in or else you'll probably have to wait! read more

Okay, so I've been to my fair share of nail salons. So I like to consider myself a decent judge of them depending on what you're looking for. But this place has everything you could ever ask for in a nail shop! It's beautiful, trendy and boozy! Fantastic color selection, and polish types (regular,dip,gel etc). I am not one to normally write reviews, but when my safety and the safety of others was put at risk I felt compelled to say something. I went in for a quick appointment two weeks ago and was shocked to see (at least to my own eyes) that zero safety protocols were being followed. First, not every employee was wearing a mask which was the first red flag for me. Second, there were several customers who weren't wearing masks either (Des Moines has a city-wide mask mandate). Third, there also wasn't plexiglass separating the space between the customer and technician which meant you were less than a foot away from another person. Social distancing wasn't being implemented between customers either as you were practically brushing shoulders with the individual next to you. There were several customers that came and left during my appointment and I didn't see the counter get cleaned once between customers. I am thankful that my appointment was a quick one (only 20 minutes) because I wouldn't have been able to sit there for much longer. I know everyone has different comfort levels right now, but I would not recommend this place (especially during a raging pandemic). I may visit this salon sometime in the future, but it will be when the pandemic is long gone. read more

If you are wanting a basic manicure pedicure, find a new salon. This place is in the heart of downtown but the service was terrible. Basic manicure pedicures should require basic CLEAN tools - they filed my nails down with a drill they use for acrylics instead of using a clean file. I brought my own nail polish and they were annoyed that I wasn't using gel so it would dry faster. I usually like a mani pedi at separate times, they did them at the same time so relaxing it wasn't. No massage for the manicure, tools weren't clean, and filing nails should happen in one direction not saw them off with a rapid back and forth motion plus they filed them as fast as they could to get me out of there. They have a small bar to offer drinks, perhaps you need to drink first to forget about the horrible service you receive? Choose a new salon, this one isn't worth the time or money. read more

At first, I was happy with Bliss Nails and Bar, they called us by name and the environment was nice. I came in for a manicure and one of my nails chipped within a day. Another nail tech was able to fix it, however, he was not very happy to do so. He tried to give me a gel nail in the place where it was chipped instead of power/dip nails which I had paid extra for. He said "this does not look like dip, and the person who did them did not do a good job". He did however fix it. Again, the next day, another one of my nails chipped. Unfortunately I am out of town so I cannot come back in to get them fixed. My dip manicure costed $50, and it has chipped within days of getting them done. I truly do not know what to say about this place. I'm in Des Moines for work for a few weeks and passed the nail salon on my way to the grocery store. I was like "there's a bar in the salon??" I planned on getting my feet done before I headed back home but the weather in Des Moines dropped and since I did not bring a jacket with me, said I would wait until the following week. Well here I am and I can say I've never had a pedicure like this. Two foot massages and 1 leg massage? ? Just impeccable! I wanted to like this place but the pedis were mediocre and quick. Most importantly it's expensive! We chose the $47 pedis and when we went to pay she told us it was $138???? They failed to mention that shellac is an addition $15 a person. I have never spent $15 for shellac anywhere. We asked numerous times of that was correct and we were surprised at the large up charge for the shellac. So $158 later with tip we left and won't be back. read more
