Great lunch, had the pulled pork sandwich and hubby had the burnt end sandwich. Trent was an awesome waiter!!

We have enjoyed brunch many times and it never disappoints. The food is fantastic. Prime Rib mac and cheese is one of my favorites. There's a chocolate fountain with fruit, potatoes, beans, corn bread, and the meats...oh the meats. Bloody Mary bar (with candied bacon!) and Mimosas that you can add on make this the perfect Sunday stop. Don't judge it from being in a strip mall, this is one you have to try! read more

Good service, corn bake was a surprise. Chicken was moist and scrumptious. I also ordered the Mac and cheese another delight. I special ordered a black berry mojito which was good, burnt ends fell apart nice and moist with a Smokey taste. Unfortunately I was slightly disappointed with the ribs, they tasted slightly dry and in need of more bbq. read more

This is a tough one. In any other town, this place would be the go to BBQ joint (although this place is far from a joint). That being said this is KC, and when you are going up against the likes of Joe's and Q39 you have to be on your A game. Blind Box has all the requirements to play with the big boys like Q39 and JackStack. Despite the non-descript strip mall exterior, the interior is very inviting, and has a similar rustic modern appeal that Q39 embodies. Like JackStack the staff is incredibly well trained and helpful in terms of suggestions. The menu is really well constructed in terms of appealing appetizers, really strong sandwich options, nice bbq combo pairings, and phenomenal sides. These components provide a solid foundation for any restaurant. As such I was super excited about what the meal would deliver. Perhaps it is worth noting that I went for lunch during restaurant week. Luckily their restaurant week menu provided a great variety for me get an idea of what Blind Box is all about. I started with burnt end chili, and for the main got a Combo meal with St. Louis spare ribs, burnt ends, and brisket. For sides I got onion straws, and corn bake. My kids opted for the kids menu, and sampled mac and cheese, hamburger, and fries. With our food combined we had an American feast fit for kings! A feast it was, and we all left absolutely stuffed. The meal itself reminds me so much of my experiences dining at JackStack. The sides clearly overshadow the BBQ. The good news is that the sides were all amazing! The bad news is that this is a BBQ establishment so by nature the meats have to shine. I judge good BBQ primarily on the quality of the brisket, burnt ends, and ribs. I sampled all of those items at Blind Box. My breakdown of the food is as follows: Burnt Ends: 6- Good char and smoke ring, but lacked authentic smoke that places like LC's can provide. Some pieces were a bit tough, and overall they lacked marbling necessary of ends from the point. Brisket: 8- Nice and moist, and overall the brisket had a good ratio of fat. Good smoke ring, but again lacked the significant it factor provided by rub and smoke. Ribs: 4- Really tough, and dry. In fact they lacked flavor all together. Very disappointing. Burnt End Chili: 7- Good balance of spices. Nice heat (don't order if you cannot handle spicy food). I would have liked significantly more meat considering it is Burnt End Chili. Hamburger: 10- Thick and juicy. The burger was perfectly cooked, and had wonderful flavor from the grill. Mac and Cheese: 8- Smooth Italian cheeses provide a velvety finish. Good flavor that allows you to enjoy the cheese and noodles without being overly rich. Corn Bake: 9- Short of JackStack, but not by much. It is just corn, and no ham. Really well executed, but it lacks the overall addictive quality of JackStack's gold standard. Fries: 10- Not the rub heavy heaven of Joe's, or the fat laden masterpiece of Arthur Bryant's. These fries are adequately salted and perfectly fried. Onion Straws: 9- Very similar to Q39's straws. These are lightly battered and so delicious. Maybe a tad salty if I am being picky. Overall the experience was fantastic despite the disappointing ribs, and burnt ends. The service was truly exceptional. I really enjoyed the interior environment. The burger and sides were incredible. If I were going in expecting standard American fare this place would have blown me away with 5 stars. That being said this is KC, and we are serious about BBQ. From that standpoint Blind Box did not measure up. I like the idea of returning to try one of the sandwiches, all of which sound amazing. I hope this was just an off day for the BBQ meats, because the sides are more than enough to return for. read more

Sadly, what once was great is no longer. We have enjoyed Blind Box BBQ for a while. I have taken many of my friends from out of town when they are here and refer many visitors to KC to Blind Box as the quality was good and feel they have been a hidden gem of KC BBQ. Sadly, it appears they are in trouble. Last evening my wife drove out of her way to pick up dinner for the family. She placed an order by calling in. When she arrived there were three people standing behind the bar and no one acknowledged her. She would have ordered a beer while waiting for the food, but no one greeted her. When she did get the order, the extra BBQ sauce we asked for was not present. It was on the ticket, but no sauce. She even asked the person about the sauce prior to leaving and he assured her it was there. When she got home, found out it wasn't there. Secondly, the quality seems to be slipping. The dinner we did eat was not up to their usual standards. The smoke flavor was there but much of what we got was dry and overcooked. The sauce may have improved that. The third issue we had was that Blind Box is now charging a 10% fee for carryout. I expressed my disappointment with the store through a Facebook message which was responded to rather quickly. They explained that the 10% surcharge had to be done because of the higher take-out rate. I would have been OK with the takeout fee had it been disclosed. Nowhere on the website or menu is there a disclosure of the fee. It seems when a restaurant is in trouble the quality of staff and the quality of food suffers and then they start taking advantage of customers with bogus fees and charges. Sad to say, we won't be going back or making any more referrals unless quality goes up all the way around that store. read more

Great service and great food. There was a 15-20 minute wait when we arrived, and that was accurate for how long we waited. Service was quick after that. We started with the Mac n cheese bites and BBQ wontons. The bites were spicier than expected but very good. I didn't try the wontons but they were all eaten so they must be good. My husband had the Notorious P.I.G. with the smoked potato salad. He loved the sandwich but probably wouldn't get the potato salad again. I had the brisket and burnt ends dinner with BBQ street corn and bourbon baked beans. Every bite was delicious. One of our friends had the brisket and burnt ends dinner with Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries. Our other friend had the chicken dinner with Mac n cheese and corn bake. She said the chicken was overcooked, but she loved the corn bake. We packed up our leftovers and decided to try the dessert. Our friends shared the chocolate cake and loved it. My husband and I shared the bread pudding. It was so good. It has a hint of apple cinnamon that is delightful. The desserts are large, so we had to pack half of those up as leftovers too. We will absolutely be going again. read more

I've been wanting to come for awhile but pandemic made it difficult. We finally went to try and I would say I was disappointed. We went on a Friday evening and it wasn't busy which was good as I took the whole family. We sat down and ordered but was a little disappointed as we told the server it was our first time and didn't know what to order and she didn't recommend anything. We got our food and the meat wasn't hot. It seems like it had been sitting there awhile. It wasn't juicy it was dry. We got all of the meat. Ribs, chicken, sausage, burnt ends and pulled pork.I know places do pre cook but it just wasn't juicy like I was hoping for bbq. My husband also got the wrong plate. She apologized and got the right one. She said she took off bill but I saw when I got home she didn't. My fault for not looking. The sides were good. We got the Mac, corn, fries and coleslaw. We didn't see a dessert menu which was a bummer but when I got home I saw on their website. Not sure if we will go back. read more

Restaurant: nice and trendy looking place Wait staff: waiter didn't seem to care to be at work, didn't get a drink refill until well after our food had been eaten. Very much disengaged with customers and more interested in chatting with coworkers near the bar. (This def impacted the overall perception of the place) Food: burnt ends, tasted more like cubed roast from a crock pot than burnt ends. The bark wasn't bark, more like mushy seasoning. Meat fell apart vs a burnt end with some chewiness. Turkey sandwich tasted like turkey, nothing special, if you removed the sauce would have never known it was bbq vs store bought sandwich meat. Both were good, but neither something I would return for. Fries were solid and had a nice crisp to them. Sauces: the house sauce was okay. Guess there is a mustard based one and a spicy one, neither were offered to us. read more

Very accommodating for our party of 14 for after our family funeral. Great cocktails and burnt ends.

Hands down my go to Sunday brunch spot. I look forward to eating here. Offerings such as burnt end Mac & cheese, build your own omelet, chocolate fountain, rosemary gravy & biscuits, jalapeño grits, corn beer & hash. It's gluttony at its finest. For dinner, I enjoy their sampler plates where you can try all of their meats. The French fries are on point read more

I had the Wednesday special, 1/2 rack of baby backs with a side of smoked potato salad. The ribs were well smoked with perfect bite through. The meat came off the rib but did not fall off the rib. Perfect! The potato salad was made with smoked potato's with bacon!!! Awesome!! Best potato salad ever! I saw some review saying bland food. Must have been from a competitor because nothing could be further from the truth. read more

We have been coming to blind box for about 4 years, they have the best sides of any of the bbq places locally. The corn bake is amazing! And the Mac and cheese is very creamy and delicious. Service is always fantastic both in the restaurant and for pick up orders! read more

Really good. More fancy than I was expecting for a strip mall place. We ordered an appetizer that was huge.

They asked to review in Google. I don't have a google account and Yelp hopefully will work. We had an awesome dinner, fall from the bones. Jake our waiter is excellent! Super hospitable! The restaurant had a special room for party of 15 where we ate. It has a great patio sitting too. Yummy, great atmosphere and great service. read more

Took my daughter to the Blind Box for a Sunday Brunch. They have an unlimited buffet. The place was packed, and there was a 20 min wait for a table, but outside seating was available, so we took that instead of waiting inside. It was quite hot outside, so that may have been a mistake. The server came around, got our drink ordered, and let us know that both warm cinnamon rolls and sliced prime rib are available upon request, but they are not on the buffet. Went in for my first go around, and there is an omelet station and a waffle iron for making fresh waffles, but there is nobody manning the station. We wait a few minutes, nobody showed up, so we moved on to what was on the hot plates. The first part of the Buffet has all of your breakfast staples. Sausage, Ham, and Bacon. Scrambled Eggs, Cheesy Hashbrowns. They had some French Toast sticks and pancakes, so loaded my daughter up on those, as well as what I thought at the time was their mac and cheese, but it ended up being a chicken pasta of some sort. As you near the back part of the buffet setup, that is when you start seeing the BBQ items, they had some great beans (Still not as good as Jackstack, but they are definately in the next tier) and they had some cheesy corn bake as well. All of the Ribs were gone, so that was a bummer but there was a sizable amount of pulled pork. There was also some peel and eat shrimp, and some salmon, but I have a "thing" about eating seafood off of a buffet, I just don't do it. Last thing I tried, was some BBQ Enchiladas. They were really hard, with no real sauce on them. Basically my experience with them, was it was some dry chicken wrapped in a tortilla, topped with cheese and backed. When I had read the menu, I was pretty excited to try them, but I would probably not eat that again. We sat down, and it was all pretty good. My daughter also wanted a cinnamon roll, so we asked for one of those. I went back in, hoping to score a couple ribs this time around, and they were there. So got a couple of those, and some more corn and beans. The ribs were pretty good, I didn't see sauce there, I probably just missed it, but I normally don't use much sauce on my BBQ anyway, so it wasn't a deal breaker. All in all it was a pretty good meal. The Cinnamon roll was warm and gooey and delicious Their price points are not cheap by any means. $21 per person * $12 6-12 year olds * 5 and under eat FREE. Since my daughter is a small 7 year old, I am not sure she at anywhere near $12 worth of food and drink. I feel like they are a pretty steep price for that age kid that really doesn't eat much. In summary, I have mixed feelings about Blind Box Brunch. There are quite a few things on the menu, but at least when I was there, it wasn't attended to very well, so a few things were not even out, and the lack of someone manning the omelet and waffle station was a bummer for my daughter (who loves her waffles) The highlights for me are the BBQ sides, and the ribs were pretty good. I would probably also skip most of the breakfasty stuff next time, as there wasn't anything special about the sausage, bacon, or cheesy hashbrowns. I would come back again, maybe when I have friends or family in town that want to eat at a unique brunch. read more

Disappointed. We had the BBQ nachos and 3 meat combo platter. The nachos were pretty good and different, but the HH size did not have much meat. Still a good deal for 6 bucks. We chose brisket, pulled pork and sausage. The sausage was good, like most smoked sausage. The pork was a bit dry and lacked smoke flavor. The sauce was good, so the pork wasn't too bad. I could not finish the brisket, it was flavorless and dry. The parts that weren't dry were all fat. The potato salad was decent, Mac and cheese was bland. 3-stars. The service was good and it had a good atmosphere despite the odd location. The sauce was pretty good and the nachos were interesting. However the smoked meat was lacking. In the same price range, this place is well behind Joe's, Q39 and jack stack. Not particularly close IMO. read more

Wow!! Usually, pretty hesitant with BBQ joints. Being raised in the Carolinas, we have enough of a battle between eastern and western style sauce. I've had BBQ in Texas at a ranch who slaughtered fresh and that couldn't touch this place. Great food, fast but reasonably timed service, amazing staff and really impressive BBQ sauces. I always get a plate so I can try a few different proteins and if you can stomach it, that's the way to go! Don't waste it though! read more

Wow! Talk about top notch bbq! We were there on Sunday while they had a brunch going on! It looked divine. We weren't terribly hungry so we had some brisket and burnt ends. Traveling thru and this place was suggested. It did not disappoint. I had combo plate ends and ribs was very happy. Sauce was spot on and service was good. Little high priced for my experience. One critical issue " burnt ends" not burnt and not the ends . Smoked meats have a crust and the overcooked edges are burnt ends not cubes of meat and fat cut from the flat of a brisket. Maybe it's a KC thing not sure. Still very pleased. read more

This is our first time eating here and it was amazing! We had the brisket sandwich - the meat was sooo good and soo tender. I don't typically like BBQ but I will definitely be back for more. My hubby had one of the combos with the ribs and chicken. He said it was so good! He is a meat lover and it is hard for him to give such a great compliment. I also got the Carrot Cake-which is the best I ever had. We will definitely be coming back! Service was quick-mind you we did pickup because of COVID. read more

THIS place. Started from zippo. Opened in 2015. In a strip mall. In a suburb. STILL here. Even expanded. Made it through 2020. NOT GOING DOWN. Quality. Genuine class. No BS. And RIGHT NEXT DOOR. I ate there for the first time recently. We ordered two sandwiches (chicken and brisket) and two sides (fries and bourbon beans). I was VERY satisfied with the flavor and the service. Outstanding BBQ in an easy to get to location! John the bartender is knowledgeable and friendly. The expansion is AWESOME as well!

Once in awhile, you just need a nice, clean restaurant to eat some KC BBQ in instead of a gas station or crumbling building with plastic plates and silverware. If you're not feeling Jack Stack (or want something just as good for cheaper), I think Blind Box might just be the BBQ you're looking for (waves hand/uses Force powers). We met up with some family from out of town in the western burbs, and as is expected when someone visits KC, they were looking for a good BBQ joint. As I'm pretty unfamiliar with the Shawnee area, Yelp was once again a saving grace and guided us to Blind Box. It's not much from the outside (strip mall), but once we were inside, I had one thought to describe the place - comfortable. This ambiance continued throughout our visit - the waiters were pleasant and efficient, the booths were large and pristine, and the setup allowed for easy conversation. While it was nice to eat a relaxing meal in an agreeable environment, a BBQ joint, especially one in KC, is nothing without quality meat. Luckily, Blind Box delivered in this department, as well. As someone who likes to try a bunch of things, I ordered Combo #1, a generous mix of 3 ribs, burnt ends, smoked sausage, and two sides. While the ribs were solid, they weren't in the top 3 I've had in town. The burnt ends and smoked sausage, however, were both elite. The ends were tender, not gristly at all, and basically melted in my mouth. The sausage was lightly smoked and went perfectly with the house BBQ sauce (big fan), which toes the line gracefully between its own smoke and a slight, sugary sweetness. Sides are one of my favorite parts of the BBQ experience, and Blind Box has more than your average house of meat. The BBQ street corn I got was a nice deviation from the usual potato salad, coleslaw, and beans. It was singed just enough to get a subtle smoke flavor and had some kind of cheese and spice blend that I'm not ashamed to admit I licked up like a Popsicle a few times. Speaking of the usual potato salad, though, I loved this one. Like most of the rest of the menu, it was smoked...but the best part was the gratuitous amount of bacon in it. If you're a bacon fan (if you aren't, God save your soul), then I highly recommend you include this as one of your sides. We also ordered an app-size of the Onion Straws (you can also order them a side), and they easily (and greasily) fed all four of us throughout the meal. Dipped in the house honey mustard, they were addictive, and I found myself unconsciously reaching over to grab another handful again and again. While not everything was perfect during our visit (I found the Belly Burger my wife ordered to be surprisingly dry and lacking flavor for the ingredients it had), Blind Box can be proud that it stacks up to the titans of the KC BBQ scene. If I happened to be in the western burbs again, I'd gladly come back for the agreeable atmosphere and another case of the meat sweats. read more

Came here for lunch on a Friday. Seated quickly and good service. Nacho appetizer was perfect and large enough for two people. Had burnt ends and while they were moist they tasted better with sauce. Good bbq and good portions. Service has been good every time we've gone. Inside can get pretty loud, but the patio is nice (and quieter.)

New, clean atmosphere but the food needs a lot of work. Fries were cold and either burnt or undercooked. They had no flavor outside of salt and the fry oil. The brisket was dry. The burnt ends were fatty and the sausage was uninspired and also room-temp. The sauce is heavy on the vinegar side with little in the way of complexity or smokey-sweet flavor. This is what I would call airport-BBQ. Food you can live with if you're stuck in an airport or hotel but certainly not a place I would revisit under normal circumstances. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day, but going 0 for 3 on the meat is not a good start. My colleague was unimpressed with his burger and his fries were also served cold. Not a great experience. BBQ aficionados, be warned. read more

Blind Box BBQ is awesome! I travel the midwest for work and bbq is my niche food I try everywhere I go. This place nails it as a complete bbq restaurant. The Carolina Pulled pork sandwich was delicious. This sandwich is stacked TALL with pulled pork (great flavor) slaw and crispy onion straws! It required two hands to pick up!! I paired it with tasty sweet potato fries. (See pictures) The decor of Blind Box is very well done. All solid wood table tops with stone walls and wood accents. It is all quality and it has a very comfortable feel to it. The staff is awesome! I can't wait to return with friends to try more of their menu items! read more
