    Blend on Stanford's Campus
    Scott B.

There are some things to like about this place, the price isn't terrible, service was fine, although they forgot part of my order, if you have a Yellowjacket/ wasp fear steer clear of here... Spam Musubi was great... the chicken bowl was not beyond average... tasted fresh but the chicken was just meh... it's basically a to-go spot so no inside eating space but the campus is beautiful so you won't be completely disappointed!

As a former Stanford postdoc, this place was my absolute go-to for lunch. Now as someone who gets to visit Stanford on occasion, this is still my must stop lunch place. Imagine if Chipotle met Asian meats & toppings - Blend Eatery brings that concept to life! If you've been to Chipotle before, the layout is very similar. You choose your base, your meats, veggies, and toppings/sauces. Most of the meats come from Filipino cuisine, with options such as Tapa, Tocino, and Adobo. I usually jump between Tocino and Adobo, but you can't go wrong with either as both are flavorful and juicy. Lots of fresh Asian-style toppings including Atchara, Edamame, Kimchi, just to name a few. You have the option to add a fried egg for an additional fee (currently $2 due to the egg shortage, normally $1.50), but the base price of your build-you-own-bowl is $12.75!! And you get a lot of food for the price, so it's a wallet-friendly meal! If you don't come to Stanford regularly, it can be a bit of a pain to find parking to just come here. Guest parking requires payment during weekdays, and they're only open for lunch hours on weekdays, so really limited opportunity. But if you're on the Stanford campus for any reason during Blend's business hours, you must make a stop!

I'm always at blend eatery because the food is tasty and the portions are really generous. I usually get half adobo and half panko chicken. I appreciate being able to customize my lunch.

A great BYO Asian bowl spot on Stanford campus! The place is pretty popular with students, so there tends to be a line around lunchtime. Bowls are around $12, all meats are the same price. There is no seating inside, just grab and go, but there are some nice seating areas right outside. I had a salad bowl with half tocino and half panko chicken. Loved the texture and flavor of both meats, and the variety and amount of vegetables I got in my bowl. The tocino pork had a great sweet and savory flavor and the panko chicken was crispy and tender.Topped it off with the sriracha mayo sauce. Would definitely return to try their other protein options!

First thing that comes to mind when I saw the set up: ASIAN CHIPOTLE The customization and the recognition of home cooked meals I'd see at home in fast food style? LOVE IT This place is also the spot to be just because as you approach the shop, there's a line out the door. I got to see the menu online but once you're in, all the choices are overwhelming just because everything's good. I ended up with a fried rice based, half panko chicken and Tocino with all my favorite toppings of edamame, fried onion, kimchi, pickled dishes, green onion and corn. In addition we got some lumpia and this was such a nice snack to munch on as we were walking around campus.

This build-your-own bowl type of restaurant is serving up Filipino fusion on campus at Stanford! I think this style of an eatery makes Filipino food very approachable since you can customize it with a variety of add-ins. They have classic Filipino items such as pork adobo, pork tocino, beef tapa, and longanisa. You can also add a fried egg for a dollar more. I was also surprised to see they have atchara (pickled veggies). The tocino was really good and had that sweet and fatty richness to it. The tapa was tender and had a simple flavoring to it. They also have some beverages that you find at the Asian markets like aloe juice, canned coconut juice, and Vietnamese iced coffee. The restaurant is similar to a Chipotle where you choose your rice, meat, veggies, toppings, and sauce with the employee making it for you. The line gets long and reaches the sidewalk during lunchtime but moves pretty quick. This is definitely a solid spot to grab lunch on campus!

Never disappoints if you get the pork (beef is kinda meh). Always a huge line at lunchtime. Great vegetable selection, so it keeps the eater nutritionally balanced. Prices are good by Palo Alto standards. Nice outdoor seating area that gets plenty of sunshine.

Probably the best place to eat on campus. Blend offers customizable Filipino-style bowls ($12.75, plus $1.50 for an egg) which aren't anything super special but taste fresh and offer decent portions if you load up on all the toppings Downside is that lines get really long, especially since it's only open from 11-2 on weekdays -- I'd recommend ordering ahead online, but I like getting a half portion of two different meats and bases (my go-to is half salad, half brown rice with half panko chicken or tofu + half tocino and sesame mayo) and don't think you can do that through the website

This may the best spot to eat on campus. If you like pan-Asian flavors, this spot is for you. A Chipotle-style spread of ingredients, from lemongrass chicken to quick-pickled daikon, rice, noodles, and fried egg. This works perfectly for days I want something with big flavor and also light, although you can definitely select options for heartier fare. Since the demise of the Psych Building Thai cafe, most food on campus is both bland and overpriced,. Blend is a welcome alternative (flavorful, and moderate $ for the area).

I had to leave a review because this place was so unexpectedly good!! Definitely feels like a hidden gem on campus. The fried tofu was breaded well, crispy, and seasoned well. The sriracha mayo was perfect on top

SO COVID has really put a damper on dining about the Stanford Campus especially since NEXUS is closed for the duration. Fortunately for us, the Blend Eatery is still serving! The best way I can describe The Blend is Chipotle meets Filipino and ? Japanese??? cuisine but who cares whatever background the food is from.... its really good. So for my first time there: I picked a lettuce base. The greens were fresh and crisp. I added corn and edamame, the cucumbers were also nicely fresh. The crispy onions and garlic added crunch. The Panko chicken was perfectly fried and crispy. I went with the sweet chili dressing and they added just the right amount. A bit of sriracha mayo on the chicken topped it off perfectly. Like an idiot I forgot to order the fried egg which I will fix next time. My bad. Service was fast and friendly. The Blend is a most welcome addition to the dining scene on campus

As a Stanford student, I'm so grateful we have a yummy and affordable place like Blend to eat on campus. Super customizable bowls with all the toppings I could ask for. Like a Chipotle / Poke Bowl type place, but with a Filipino base. The Tocino pork I got was super flavorful and decently soft and juicy as well. Be ready for very long lines though. I got there at an early time, but it was still about half an hour wait because of all the online orders they had to fulfill. Definitely try to stop by here a few minutes before Stanford classes release and all the students rush here for lunch.

The pinakbet was not skimping on the bagoong and was delicious. The kare kare was tender and the bangus sisig had a perfectly crispy bottom. The high quality of the protein here really makes each dish taste worth the price. The cocktails were also really good, I enjoy the purple jeepney which was an ube based cocktail. They do have smaller sizes for entrees that you can order so you can sample more of the menu. Will be back to try to crispy pata! The service was also very warm and friendly, they first asked if we've had Filipino food before (which we have many times) to see if they could help make any suggestions from the menu.

Located in downtown San Mateo, it can definitely be difficult to find parking, even in the garages. We had to circle around a couple of times until finding a street parking spot. Keep that time in consideration and come early if you have a reservation. The inside has relatively dim lighting and is quite spacy, and there's plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. Service was pretty quick despite how busy it was, and the servers were great! We ordered: - hot calamansi tea - thai chili & garlic wings - inihaw na pusit - pork sisig - sinigang - garlic rice The food came out pretty quickly and mostly all at once. Standouts of the night were the inihaw na pusit (super tender and chewy, and grilled with a great char) and pork sisig (super umami and tender). With that being said, was very satisfied with all the dishes, and there wasn't one that left a negative impression. I will say that this restaurant does lean on the pricier end, but there's a great ambiance for good food and conversations with friends. Would come back!

Thankfully, there was plenty of street parking right around. We walked in and saw the good selection of food available on the steam table. We both ordered a 2-item plate; mine had the lechon kawali (deep fried pork) and the longanisa (breakfast sausage), while she chose the sisig (chopped up pork cooked with onion and jalapeños) and fried bangus (milkfish). Our plates also came with steamed rice and soup. Since this is a cafeteria style place, our food was ready to eat (though our server offered to heat up the bangus a little in the kitchen). The lechon was very good, not too fatty but still had plenty of crispy skin to go along with the meat. The longanisa was also tasty, very sweet and not spicy. My devoured the bangus, dipping it in spicy vinegar. Since we were in a bit of a hurry, we took some of our food home for breakfast the day. This is a very solid place for a quick meal. There isn't much seating inside, and there were many orders placed to-go while we were having lunch. Will definitely return the next time we're in the area.

We ordered the chicken inasal, which had great flavor and was cooked well. It tasted good, juicy, and seasoned nicely. The only thing missing was that signature smoky flavor. When you think of inasal, you expect that charcoal, grilled smokiness that hits you right away. It just needed that slight smoky touch to really elevate it. The pork sinigang was decent, but it was missing that bold, sour punch that sinigang is known for. Maybe it's a different regional style, but to us it felt more like nilaga with a dash of lemon. Still comforting, but we were hoping for that classic sour tamarind flavor. Now the standout -- the lechon kawali was spot on. Crispy, juicy, and moist. The crunch on the outside with tender pork inside was exactly what you want. Definitely a must-order. One of the best surprises was their free unlimited bone broth soup. It's delicious, rich, and comforting. Honestly, that alone makes the experience even better. Overall: Solid Filipino food, great prices, and a welcoming vibe. A few tweaks here and there, but definitely worth coming back to try more dishes.

Usually we have to drive out to Concord or Union City for Filipino food, so we had high hopes for this place. They have a pretty extensive menu beyond just silog plates. You can choose a 1-3 meat combo that comes with rice and an egg. We ordered the 2-meat combo with pork tocino and longanisa, plus a tocino burrito. There's limited indoor seating (I think only about two tables) and additional outdoor seating with umbrellas. If you're dining in, just grab a table and they'll come take your order. For takeout, you order at the register. The presentation when the food came out was nice, and the service was friendly, which we appreciated. The longanisa was actually pretty good, and the tocino was decent. Unfortunately, the biggest letdown was the rice -- which is kind of the heart of a silog meal. We ordered garlic fried rice, but it was extremely bland and lacked flavor completely. Honestly, plain homemade steamed rice has more flavor. Since the rice makes up such a big part of the dishes, it affected the entire meal, including the tocino burrito, which ended up being disappointing too. Really wanted to love this place, but overall it just didn't hit the mark flavor-wise for us.

The two of us were dubious about the Millionaire's Bacon, because it was hyped up to the point where it seemed unlikely that it could live up to the reputation. We were wrong. We ordered the Millionaire's Bacon sampler platter, which is four strips of long, thick pieces of bacon, baked with brown sugar and spices. There is the original, which is brown sugar, cayenne, red, and black pepper, which was sweet, salty, and the perfect amount of spicy. The other slices were orange, cinnamon, and rosemary. My partner enjoyed the orange best, whereas I loved the cinnamon, but we both thought the rosemary was underwhelming. The bacon itself was very thick and meaty with a minimal amount of fat, and was just clearly high quality pork. Truly worth the hype. We also got the bottomless mimosas, which not only had multiple choices of juice (we got raspberry lemonade) but were surprisingly heavy on the champagne. The waiter kept them coming without us needing to ask, to the point where I had to tell him I was done because I was a little too tipsy for breakfast. My partner got the chicken croffle, and was very impressed. I tried the fried chicken (though not the croffle) and it was very well spiced, very crunchy, and well cooked--juicy and tender. I got the big hip, which is deep fried "french toast". I wouldn't call it french toast myself, but it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and came with fresh fruit, butter, and syrup. There wasn't enough syrup for the entire dish, but I asked our waiter for more and he came back with it in less than a minute. On top of the food being as close to perfect as you can get, the service was great. Several different waiters checked in on us throughout the meal, making sure we were enjoying the food and that we didn't need anything else. The vibes of the restaurant are really enjoyable too. The décor is lovely, the sound levels are very reasonable, and everything was spotless during our visit. Overall, I can't recommend Sweet Maple enough, and I'm kind of glad it's not closer to my house because I would go bankrupt with the amount of Millionaire's Bacon I'd buy on a weekly basis.
