I've been eyeing this place down for a while and finally had an opportunity to try it out. We were NOT disappointed! The atmosphere was pretty nice (indoor and outdoor) and the weather was perfect for the night. Our server was very nice and attentive, and the food came out very fast! We had a number of appetizers which can be seen in the photos. They include the tomato soup, chicken karaaage, and crab cake. The crab cake was probably my favorite out of the 3. For our entrees we shared 3 boards. The steak and potato board, Baja board, and little Italy board. We had a great time sipping on drinks and picking at the boards. We love places that cater towards shareable plates, to us as a tight knit family it makes us feel at home. For dessert we had their cookies and the snickerdoodle is probably my favorite out of the 3. On the weekends there may be a wait during prime time. We didd have to wait it an hour to sit. Prior to visiting we tried to make a reservation but can only be done with a party of 6 or more. My 80th review! Whooo! Saved the best place for this review. This restaurant is such a wonderful addition to Baton Rouge's culinary scene. It's unique in its own way since it is a market and restaurant. Great place for lunch, dinner, date nights, and big groups! Their food is absolutely delicious and the ambiance is casual but very cute. My boyfriend and I started off with the tomato basil soup and meatball appetizer. Both were nice and comforting on a cold night. The soup tasted fresh while the meatballs had incredible flavor. Next, the main attraction: steak and potato board for 2! You guys, this board is massive for 2 so come hungry! I loved the idea of sharing a board of different foods. They separate the steak onto two plates for each person so you don't have to fight over who gets the last piece hehe. The chimichuri was absolutely fabulous with everything on the board. I dipped anything and everything in it. I was kind of worried how our steak would be cooked because our server didn't ask us how we wanted it but it came out perfectly. Seriously, it was so tender it melted in our mouths and the flavors were great. The veggies were also cooked and seasoned very well. We also got to try a new type of red pepper, man I can't remember the name of it but it was pickled and complimented the steak very well, giving it a nice sweet, salty, and sour taste. I really enjoyed my dinner at Bldg5. They have a wide range of options to chose from, which can be a hit-or-miss feature of a restaurant. In this case, it really works in the restaurants favor. For instance, we had an Italian platter for two and Japanese fried chicken for an app -- no where else in Baton Rouge offers that. The atmosphere here is really nice, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The servers are very professional and the service is quick. The prices are very affordable for the quality of food they provide. The drinks are good, not great, but they have a ton of options both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It looks like they also have a quick-service lunch counter for sandwiches and to-go items, but I haven't tried it yet. Would recommend for anyone bored of the same-old-stuff in BR. read more

Had lunch for the first time here today. Walked in and got in line and made the order at the register. The girl was very nice, patient and helped with me to understand the menu. I ordered the protein plate with steak (as an app) and asked which sauce is best suggested the piri piri sauce and it was great. Had the sweet and sour Brussels sprouts as the side. Well, that was amazing. We were just in for a light, early dinner, and found ourselves absolutely charmed by this cozy, courtyard restaurant. Soft Spanish music played while we feasted on an authentic-tasting Shakshouka (me) and a pork stew (my husband). Both dishes were absolutely packed with flavor, and I couldn't finish my "small plate," much as I wanted to! Service was friendly and attentive and our server, Honor, provided just the right level of attentive care. I've been on 3 different occasions, because different people in my life wanted to check it out. I think the star of this place is definitely the atmosphere and decor. It's fun and unique & different from anything else in the area. It's good for any occasion! But when it comes to the food I was expecting to be wow'd and I wasn't. It was all just okay or good enough. The first time I went was for lunch with my mom. I got the BLDG5 original sandwich which felt pretty bland. It was definitely missing something, which was a bummer because when I read the description it sounded so good! I got a side of the Brussels sprouts and they were very spicy due to the excessive amount of red pepper flakes that were covering them. My mom got the short rib smash with a side of the broccolini & it was definitely the better sandwich of the 2. The broccolini was a little bland as well, but was good if you got a bite with the cheese. And we both got one of the seasonal lemonades. They were good, but definitely hit you with the ginger and jalapeño in these batches. I think they've since toned it down. The second time I went with my husband on a date & we got the steak and potato board for 2. It was a big portion and pretty okay, but we both didn't like it too much. The carrots were hard, & we only found about 3 softer pieces in there. Some of the things on the board were bland & some were spicy but needed salt. Overall we decided we wouldn't get this board again, but if we were to come again maybe try a different one. The third time, and the best time so far, I came for dinner with friends. We split the chicken karaage & the Brie and bacon jam vasi. The chicken was the best thing I've had here! bacon jam wasn't much of a jam. It was more tiny little pieces of seasoned bacon with a little piece of Brie melted on top. It was still enjoyable though! Just more crumbly than spreadable. One friend got a cauliflower soup & liked it! As well as the seasonal blueberry lemonade which she loved. It was one of the flavors I had had before that was quite strong, so I tried it and it was much better this time! I think they got the hang of it now! My friend and I both got side salads & I asked if there were raw onions in it, because I'm intolerant (they give me migraines). The waitress said no, but she'd write a note on mine just in case. Our salads came & my friends definitely had onions on top and mine ended up having a few hidden in it. Which for me isn't much of a problem for me, I can just remove them and be fine. But I thought I'd note it, because it could be a problem for someone else! I'm sure they would have fixed quickly though with no problem if I had asked them to. And lastly my friend got a grilled veggie sandwich. She said it was pretty bland & was happy we had appetizers she could snack on. All in all I'm not sure if their foods super consistent yet. For example we discussed our steak and potato board experience with friends who had gotten it before as well and we had completely different experiences. No hard carrots or random spicy or blandness. I've had friends that have gone and absolutely loved it and said it was their new favorite restaurant, and some that thought it was just okay. But I think I can overlook the inconsistency for now. They've only been open a couple months and are still getting their footing and perfecting recipes. Those things take time! I can confidently say I'd go again. I'm not rushing back for the food anytime soon, but I definitely enjoyed their space and would come back just for a fantastic place to hangout with people! read more

Rude, unorganized and liars who take no accountability. Waited 30 mins with a toddler at lunchtime bc we wanted to be seated rather than counter service. Shopped the market before waiting outside for our table. Got a text that our table was ready. She asked if we preferred inside or outside. I said either but then said outside preferred. No table ready. She bussed the table. The party of 4 after us was also being seated. The other hostess asked if we were waiting and I said the other hostess was cleaning our table. Then our hostess proceeded to walk past us waiting to grab the party after us and put them at our table. i had to get her attention to get to us and it's like she forgot. So she then proceeds to bring us to the table that she just sat with the party AFTER us. By this time I'm pissed, make it known, and told her to take us off as we walked out. I got to my car then turned around within 30 seconds of walking away and went back in to ask to speak to a manager. They tried to say they came after me. Where? You just opened the door and assumed I was gone??They didnt. I was a straight shot from the door in the parking lot. She said she "thought" I left. There was NO effort to fix their screw up. And then had the NERVE to say they didnt know I wanted to sit outside. Complete BS. I looked at my hostess straight in the face and said I literally JUST told you were preferred outside...while she shook her head. We visited BLDG5 for dinner on a Saturday night and had an incredible experience. The restaurant is located under the Perkins overpass and parking can be a bit tricky - definitely best to come early on a weekend evening if you don't have reservations. BLDG5 is a full service restaurant/bar but also offers a "market" inside where you can purchase different offerings to-go. We LOVED the whole "vibe" of the place - very well decorated and hip. We were a larger party and sat outside on the patio where they had gas heaters to keep us warm. The menu is centered around dishes that are easy to share. We tried the Chicken Karaage to start (Japanese style fried chicken), which was unique and delicious. For our entree, we had the steak and potatoes board for one and they gave us the option to just double the steak for a small up-charge and keep the same amount of veggies (which we loved)! It was absolutely delicious and tons of food for two people. We also tried the little Italy board which was delicious as well. Everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. To finish, we had the classic cheesecake with a blueberry mash on top and the chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake - both out of this world delicious!! My parents and I came here to dine and just found it from searching "cute restaurants in Baton Rouge." We were pleasantly surprised with the cabin like interior with wood accents and small market they had inside to compliment their restaurant and bar upstairs. The food was amazing, much like a farm-to-table setting and the staff were all very accommodating. The owner was also sitting right behind us and told us how they opened 4 months before covid and how they shaped their restaurant to where it is now! So I have to give fair warning to people. The food is ok tasting, it's the portions of food that they give u. I ordered the steak and potato board with a side of shrimp that came out to over $50 with tip. Supposedly the steak and potato board comes with 6oz of steak. However on the board I got, I received maybe 3-4oz of steak max. The shrimp were all very tiny and only 3 pieces. So if I calculate this correctly, 4oz of steak is about $5, 3 small shrimp are probably $3. The rest of the food on that board is all filler food (potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, carrots) that costs $3. So in total, they make that steak and potato board for $11 and charge $50+ for it. Quite a nice deal for the restaurant owners but definitely not for smart consumers who know the value of what they're paying for and how much they should get in portion size particularly on the more expensive items that are meat. We all know these tactics that these restaurants are using to boost profit margins and it doesn't work for me. If I want a steak, I'll go get a real steak for half the price of this steak and potato board somewhere else. Not going back here again. read more

Our party of 10 was seated promptly, after getting lucky in finding parking spaces. Friday lunch meant a PACKED house. Staff was working hard to keep up. Some dishes were good, others poor (Shrimp Creole..boiled medium shrimp with a tomato substance (not gravy) out of a can. Shrimp remoulade..not so. Told manager "This is not remoulade." His response,"You're right. We ran out and you should have been told." Whatever it was, wasn't very good. The menu is overhead, complicated and pricey. You are eating outside and we were OK with that, but most days in BR, you'd not choose to eat like at a Sonic. Too many good restaurants on Perkins to go back to this hit or miss. read more
