I gave a lower rating because one of the guys there had a really long beard and no hair net and was leaning over the cheese and it made me uncomfortable, I just kept thinking (oh god, there's going to be hair in my pizza), luckily this didn't happen. But I'm a believer that if you have facial hair you shouldn't lean over food without a hairnet. People seemed rushed (but that can be expected of a fast food joint). Overall food was good. read more

I get that you guys were short on staff tonight 6/25/23 9:15p-10:20p but serving burnt pizzas to customers is not right at all! I had to have my order re-done twice which took over an hour and they still tried to give me burnt pizza.. the team didn't stop taking orders to get the backed up orders completed. The guy putting the pizzas in the oven was rude to customers and kept saying I don't know where your order went and can't help you. But, don't give up and hop over to Guru (although it's super delicious as well) or Fuzzy Taco (ugh), trust me the wait in Blaze's line is worth it! I went to Blaze for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I was definitely not disappointed. I decided to go rogue and build my own pizza. I got the jitters because it seems like it's going to be confusing to order, but it's really more like a subway for pizza. They have clear lists of all your options. And everyone was super friendly, so don't be intimidated. I ended up with a pizza that had artichokes, basil, red peppers, cherry tomatoes, a classic red sauce, and vegan cheese. I did appreciate that they changed their gloves when making my pizza. I also grabbed a Mexican Coke at the checkout (hooray, glass bottles)! The wait wasn't very long, and I was insanely happy with how it turned out. The only two tiny, nitpicky complaints I have are that I missed the memo that the first thing I should tell them is that I want a gluten free pizza crust, and the guy who yells out the names for pizzas was really quiet. I have eaten at many other Blaze locations, but this was my first trip to this one. I ordered through their app, which is always very simple and convenient. I chose to do pick up and when I arrived they were visibly swamped with customers. This doesn't surprise me too much as who doesn't love some good pizza on a Friday! Unfortunately, my pizza was burnt when they pulled it from the oven. Rather than them throwing it in the box and me finding out later, they were very open about it and immediately started making me a new one. I was compensated for my time with a coupon & a cookie, which is more than appreciated, as I understand how this whole customer service thing can be challenging at times! We stopped by on a friday evening. The place was pretty full - only a couple open tables. We got in line and were able to order after a few minutes. I tried the art lover pizza with artichoke. The drink options are great. You can have a beer, wine, agua, or the regular fountain drinks. The pizza was ready by the time we got our drinks. I wished there was more artichoke on the pizza. I was very surprised wuth how good the red sauce is! I can eat anything with that. It was a much more generous amount of red sauce on the art lover pizza than others i saw. My family and I came here a few days ago and I went in with the assumption that it was a regular restaurant but it was actually like a fast food pizza place. I didn't think I would like the concept but I ended up really liking the concept. When we got there the lady asked if we had been there before and we said no, so she kindly explained how the restaurant works. So we go through this sort of conveyor belt thing and put what we wanted our pizza. They have all assortments of cheese, meats, and vegetables to put on your pizza. I got sausage and green peppers on my pizza. When she put the cheese on the pizza it didn't look like it would be enough but I actually really liked the pizza without a lot of cheese. Our pizzas were out of the oven within five minutes of making them. That surprised me a lot because I thought they would need to have more time to cook it. For drinks they have many choices to choose from, they have homemade lemonade and tea next to the soda machine. I got their homemade lemonade and it was really good. The service was amazing and I love how they make the experience a personal experience and they almost make you feel like you are at home. The pizza tasted amazing. Was very luck/y to be invited to the Yelp Elite event. This is a long time coming as my travelling has been intense the last few months. As I write this I realize this is a Blaze Pizza and Pie 5 review of sorts. Blaze is subway for pizza. In the BEST POSSIBLE way. They hand make their dough every night and roll it and press it to order. You can get an unlimited number of toppings!! I think LeBron James put 35 toppings on his or something like that. I opted for their meat eater as I am not one to make food decisions under duress and was glad that I did! The crust is crispy just like I like it. Its actually very close to a NY pizza slice except its a bit more crispy. It's not as crispy as the cracker crust pizza's we get here in des Moines. The sauce has good flavor and the toppings are definitely high quality. In fact this is a question I asked them at the event, "why are you better than Pie 5 in Ankeny?" They answered me very quickly and said that their ingredients and dough were higher quality. I smirked and thought to myself...we will see. Well as fate would have it i ate at Pie 5 the very next day....and as you will see by the pictures the Blaze pizza just looks better (tastes better) and also the ingredients are much better quality. I could definitely taste the freshness in the dough that Blaze prides itself in, while Pie 5 definitely had the decidedly "frozen" flatness of flavor. So if i had to choose between the two (although why would you as both are so far from one another that the choice wouldn't be one you would face often) i would definitely choose Blaze. It's got high quality ingredients, yummy crispy crust, really good drinks and a pretty decent "smores" dessert. If you are in Ankeny then Pie 5 is a decent option but does not stand up to Blaze. I would drive to Blaze 9/10 times. The only reasons why Blaze didn't get 5 stars: 1. Flies - there was a major fly problem when we were there. Flies everywhere, makes me a bit concerned about the cleanliness...and I am a bit of a clean freak 2. Employees - the people were a bit too chatty, it was plastic and fake...I get that they wanted to leave a good impression and it was a yelp event but it made the interaction a bit forced and awkward. i would rather just mark up my pie choices on a piece of paper (like whichwhich) and be done with it. read more

Delicious, fresh pizza - fast! We came during their grand opening event. Everyone who showed up could get a free pizza from 11a.m. to 11p.m. It was CRAZY busy but the friendly and fast-paced staff handled it well. Keeping in mind that normal business won't be like this, I can see myself stopping here for a quick bite to eat or our next date night. This location doesn't require masks at all. I ordered pick up and saw numerous people walk in and out with oi masks. When I asked if they had a policy, they said they were a restaurant and couldn't attempt to enforce any policies. Blaze is a great addition to downtown Des Moines especially for a different lunch option with fresh ingredients. The space itself was bright, welcoming, and a fun atmosphere with ample seating inside and out and SUPER simple validation for parking. The pizza menu contains some preset choices or you can create your own with a nice variety of sauce choices and fresh ingredients - the dough is made fresh, in house. I ordered the Red Vine and my date ordered the Meat Eater. Both tasted bright and ingredients were flavorful however my rating of a 4 and not a 5 was due to the crust, which had a nice char but very little flavor or chew. We finished up with a warmed up s'more which was the perfect finish! The staff was exceptional. Will definitely be back. read more

I can tell from the taste that everything is fresh because usually with most pizzas I can taste the extra sodium but with Blaze you don't get that taste. Some might think that their pizza is kind of bland, but right before they cook your pizza they do provide an option to add some sea salt to it if you like. Also, their blood orange lemonade was excellent. (This is part of their fountain drink). They also serve beer and other bottled soft drinks. As for dessert, they have their own version of Smores. I really like the idea of a build your own pizza but the pizza itself is not much to rave over. I would think a thin crust would be crispy but my pizza was soggy. I asked for gluten free crust and they ended up letting people jump ahead of me in the line because my crust had to be specially pressed which only took an extra minute so I don't know why they had to push two other people ahead of me when I was already waiting in line. What would be cooler is if we could build our own at a station and they just throw it in the oven and whoever gets done making theirs first. I would even leave my pizza in longer since their method pushes the pizzas out too soon. It's within walking distance to Court Ave. and Principal Park, but the one downside is the parking. It does allow you to park your car in their lot for up to 2 hours for free if you get your ticket validated, but if you are there for more than 2 hours or you lost your ticket, you can end up spending more money then you would like. read more
