Blaze Pizza - Ya no. Even if it's Pi day... - Pizza Near Me - Davis, California

It's been said before but this is literally the Chipotle version of pizza, it's nothing like the real stuff but still good in its own way. A flat-rate of $7.75 for a bunch of toppings on a thin crust is really worth it. I'd say it's a meal and a snack alone for me. They have their own pizza creations but I'd always prefer to customize my own. I had a chicken and spinach (with other things) that had a classic pizza sauce base. The people on the food line are super friendly and service was fairly quick. I love that the outdoor seating is section off from the street, you won't get bumped by a passersby. The indoor seating had some pretty high seats, I struggled a bit to climb on but yay short people problems. As you order, the line is sectioned off, which is nice as it winds around to the front. I always like that because when it gets busy and a lot of people are lined up, it'll be harder to cut and stuff. As for the pizza I got, it was a good pizza. I wouldn't super good but it's not bad. The ingredients seem really fresh. My only complaint is that the bottom of my pizza was pretty burnt. Each bite had the burnt taste and it wasn't too pleasant (but it's understandable since the oven doesn't seemed to be scraped off each time around). Final Thoughts: Aside from the burnt flavor, it's a nice thin-crust pizza. I definitely have to try the s'mores dessert next time! read more

Yum! All the Blazes I've been to have been consistent. Flavors are much better than pieology. Anyway, nothing much to add to the reviews but it's basically Chipotle-style pizza. Cooked real fast and your order will be done with a quickness of like 2 minutes. Ingredients are delicious and you can get as much as you want. I love the meats that go with it and the veggies and especially the jalapeños! What absolutely makes the pizza and adds freshness is adding arugula and pesto drizzle after the pizza is baked. Blaze pizza is a restaurant similar to Pieology. It's one of those places where you get to pick and choose your toppings for pizza and have it ready for you in about five minutes. Blaze and Pieology are great places to get a delicious thin crust pizza at a nice price. At Blaze, you order wait in line and order as you walk past the ingredients. You start with sauce like red sauce, spicy red sauce, or cream sauce and go from there. The neat thing is you can really mix and match however you like. I personally did half cream, half spicy red. Another friend of mine just combined cream and red together for hers. Next come the cheeses. There are a variety of traditional pizza cheeses that you can add to the top of your pizza. I'm very glad that they had the option of ricotta, as that is a type of creamy mild cheese that tastes great on pizza that you can't get at many pizza chains. Meat comes next. If you build your own pizza, You can choose as much as you like for the same price. I suggest you don't go overboard though. Just because you can have everything doesn't mean you should. I love choosing just a few meats on my pizza. Finish off the pizza with a variety of veggies and off it goes to get cooked. You don't have to wait too long and the pizza will be ready for you. It comes hot, fresh, and just the way you asked for. I really enjoyed my Blaze pizza, and my friends did too. It's a great addition to the Davis restaurant line-up, and I can see it being very successful here. Besides the pizza, Blaze offers boxed salads and a s'mores dessert. Unlimited topping pizza for $8??? Yes please!! There are around 4 sauces, 8 different cheeses, 8 different meats, and a crap ton of veggies. I like to put a lot on my veggies.. I've been Americanized.. Lol And the pizza tastes great! It came out within 5 minutes after paying for it. The only downfall about the pizza is that the crust is pretty thin and if you get a lot of veggies like me, the pizza may be a little bit watery, so it's not super great for leftovers because the crust will be soggy. I've done this and the flavor of the pizza was still amazing, but it was in fact, soggy. You can definitely share one pizza and BAM $4 lunch. read more

Fast convenient pizza! Dough is already premade and it just goes down the line starting with the sauce, cheese, meat & veggies. They have both red and white sauce here, so hooray for white sauce. The have a assortment of cheese including fresh mozzarella. Same goes for the meats and veggies, and don't be shy to ask for extra. After you've made your choices they through it in they fiery oven and it comes out pretty quick. Once they call you for you pizza you can add sauces like pesto on top. I thought the pizza was really good. A white sauce pizza with fresh mozzarella, all meat and artichokes with pesto. Can't go wrong with that. The staff is actually what won me over, even though it was busy they took the time to top my pizza, piece by piece, so when it came out it was beautiful. And when I asked for extra bacon they hooked the boy up. The only thing for me is that I like my pizza on the crispy side and it wasn't. But I'm sure they can cook it longer next time. read more

There was so much hype when Blaze opened up in Davis and I didn't think it would be anything amazing because it seemed like just another Pieology-like pizza place to me. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The lines here move pretty fast and the pizza is done in a matter of minutes. The pizzas here are decently sized for a one-person portion and the price is definitely worth it too (around $8 after tax for your own personal pizza)! * Keep in mind that the pizzas here are thin crust (and be warned, the crusts are pretttty thin), so if you're not a fan of thin crust pizzas, this might not be the place for you. I would definitely advise getting the build-your-own option because you get unlimited toppings! You can ask them to throw on as much of each topping as you want so that's definitely a plus. They have a pretty wide variety of topping options and they all taste very fresh too. For the sauces, they also have a few options to choose from and you can ask for half and half (such as half red sauce, half cream sauce) if you want to have the best of both worlds on your pizza! Just as great as Pieology and that's what makes it so great--it is the Pieology that's around when there are no Pieologies! And because of that, please excuse my constant comparing of the two. It's options are very large in opportunities, but not so intimidating that you'll hold up the line (hopefully). Something that would help is if they displayed all options on the menu boards above the kitchen, because that always helps at Pieology. If I could change another thing (that's much more important to me), it'd be that the people working the "deliveries" of the pizza at the counter hold on a bit before going away because I usually do want the arugula toppings on my pizza as a finish. Sadly, very often the person who drops my pizza on the counter speedily goes away without a word and I have to wait for them to come back (All Pieologies I've gone to always ask for after-bakes so this was disappointing). read more

Going to Blaze for me is like going on a roller coaster ride!! It's such a fun experience rolling down the line and choosing your toppings. The build your own pizza is only $8.45 which is great considering you can get as many toppings as you'd like, no limits! They have brought a good variety of salads and sauces, and you can order brownies, cookies, or s'mores for desert ($2.25). They also have fun soft drinks and bottled beer. They let you mix the sauces if you want, and you can also ask for a free side of ranch/pesto/etc. at the checkout. Overall, the staff is usually very fun and accommodating. They are also quite fast, so no matter how busy it is the wait time is almost never too long. Super disappointed. I love blaze pizza it's a favorite place and when they closed the vacaville location I was super disappointed, but we were in Davis for Father's day so I had to stop in. The employees at this location seem like they hate their jobs and they moved so slow. We were the first in line we were greeted right away but it took 20 mins before they even started on our order. I was so disappointed in the lack of customer service and the slow service. When I asked for pesto on the top the employee squeezed what looked like the pesto juice not actual pesto. Glad to see Blaze come to Davis and all the 5 star reviews it's receiving. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but this is not 5 star pizza for me. Yea, it's fairly cheap ($8 or less), but it doesn't really come close to a better brick-oven-produced pizza from even as close as Sac (see under Masullo, Hot Italian etc). I do have to admit that Blaze stands out in Davis as the rest of pizza places in town are nothing to write home about...Actually Blaze might be the first wood-fired oven in Davis. If I missed another, please correct me. As many mentioned, the concept is pizza-Subway or pizza-Chipotle, not very different from Pieology. You make your own, unlimited toppings pizza or pick one from the menu; then they stick it in the hot-as-hell F oven and it's voila after 3-4 minutes. The best deal is their cheese pizza. For about $5 it is actually not bad and I liked it better than the one I loaded with toppings. The problem with unlimited toppings is that the crust is super-thin and it cannot hold more than 3-4 toppings safely. And that might be exaggeration. But if you like that extra sogginess, go ahead and knock yourself out. I didn't see any beer and didn't get any drinks so I will have to leave that for next visit. If you're getting the pizza to go, you can order online and save some time waiting in line. They will pre-make the pizza but wait for you to come before tossing it in the oven. Works for me. While certainly not the best ever, Blaze is not bad...especially for the price. The staff are all young, enthusiastic and the place fits great into this part of Davis. It's a build your own pizza (personal size) for $8.. 3 sauces to choose from for the base, classic red sauce, spicy red sauce, white cream sauce, and 3 choices to drizzle on at the end either pesto, BBQ or olive oil.. 7 cheeses to choose from like goat, Gorgonzola, mozzarella, ovalini mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, or vegan cheese.. 16 veggie toppings to choose from like roasted garlic, spinach and cherry tomato are some of my favs.. and finally 7 meat choices... You can pick how much and how little you would like of each item.. Then it gets thrown in to a hot wood burning oven and its ready in 7 minutes.. I order a build your own: light mozzarella cheese, mushroom, spinach, roasted garlic, chicken and applewood bacon & classic red sauce.. Hubs got build your own: light mozzarella cheese, mushroom, spinach, roasted garlic, chicken and applewood bacon & classic red sauce finished with a BBQ drizzle.. Step son got build your own: Classic red sauce, pineapple, pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and mozzarella cheese.. Chiptole version of ordering but with pizza! I would say it's really confusing if you are ordering for your first time but the workers try their best to help you out. You can customize your pizza literally any way you want it. They also allow you to order their "signature" pizza's and can add on from there, which I found sorta cool. I would be careful with the unlimited toppings and sauces because your pizza crust will become soggy if you over do it. Everything in moderation! So many ways to customize my pizza. I knew I wanted either gorgonzola or goat cheese but didn't want to end up with a weird combination. I decided to order the Green Stripe pizza, substituting goat cheese for the bell pepper (chicken, garlic, mozzarella, arugula and a pesto drizzle rounded it out). It was really a nice combination. My husband had a variation of the Meat Eater and really liked his. We were both amazed out how quickly the pizzas were assembled and baked. If the crust was a bit crisper it would have been a five star pizza. The set-up: you order your pizza near the entrance and follow it down the counter where you can add additional items as they assemble it before you. Then you pay and into the oven it goes. Three minutes later your pizza is ready, sliced into six pieces and your name is called. Most of the tables inside are bar height with tall stools and seat eight people so table sharing is expected. We each were only able to eat half our pizzas and noticed that they had half-size pizza boxes available near the soda machine. I think you are expected to bus your own table because there is a large garbage can and a shelf for the metal pans by the exit. The pizza dough is made on site. The big Hobart mixer is in view of the dining area. The dough balls are pressed into a crust shape at the beginning of their journey down the assembly line. We will return. The pizzas are made with quality ingredients and the pricing provides excellent value. I would also like to try some of their salads. The roasted vegetable and gorgonzola salad sounds wonderful, as does the beet and goat cheese salad. read more

Blaze Pizza is, generally speaking, a great restaurant chain. Cheap but quality food, & friendly service. This particular location is cheap, the service is good, but the food is consistently bad. I've ordered from here 4 times & every single time my order has been either incorrect or burned to a crisp. Yes, burned. Like charred cardboard burned. I'm gluten intolerant & I always order the cauliflower crust. I use cauliflower crust at home when I bake my own pizzas. It never ever turns out as brittle & inedible as Blaze's. Sure, it cooks differently compared to traditional dough. But it shouldn't be so tough that it's virtually impossible to enjoy. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because I figured it was just a newbie screw up or something. Hey, we're human. We make mistakes. But the poor food quality is consistent here. The pizza is great, hands down best in Davis. Though in the other hand the service is terrible. I have never walked into blaze and had a pleasant experience. I always arrive 10 minutes after my pick up time and the food is never ready. I always have to remind them about other items in my order bc they never have everything out. The people there deal with a lot of drunk customers so I understand but having to ask them 3 times to give me everything in my order is a little absurd. Again the pizza is great and I do feel bad for the employees but they are low key rude. Every pizza is a personal pizza if you try hard enough, and blaze is no exception. When you first walk in, you start your order at the queue line where an employee greets you and you start building your pizza! The world is your Oyster as far as toppings are concerned, but they do have some pretty neat options provided on the menu. I'm pretty basic and love the standard Hawaiian pizza, with just a pinch of sea salt on top. :) The pizza comes out pretty fast once they pop it in the oven, which is awesome, and it's always the perfect amount of crisp around the edges!! If you're hungry, I would not recommend sharing a pizza since the crust is thin and the pizzas aren't crazy big. They really are personal sized pizzas! read more

People often ask whats the difference between Blaze and Pieology....let me tell you. Blaze Ive seen is very "stingy" with their toppings and sauce. It feels like i don't have what I paid for, and yes some may argue that you can ask for more but at Pieology they give out such a decent first layering on toppings that I don't need to even ask. Also it kinda bothers me that Blaze doesn't have a dessert pizza like Pieology does because that would be pretty dope. We've had Blaze Pizza before, but it was our first time at this location last night, 12/2/21. We didn't eat in, but DoorDashed ahead and went inside to pick up our food. I'm writing this review specifically to shoutout the entire team who worked the night shift during a really busy evening. It seemed like they were fully staffed to cover each role, but they were all working so hard and made their jobs seem effortless, despite the amount of customers in line and in store. Unfortunately I didn't get any names, but I also wanted shoutout those who were working at the end of the line. It takes a lot of patience and multitasking to quickly prepare, cook and get out everyone's final orders, making sure each order is correct before its packed and presentable. Not only were they kind and the utmost professional, but they did an amazing job working under so much pressure, answering the MANY questions from some (very impatient) customers waiting for their made-to-order food just after minutes ordering I'm sure this happens often, so I'm just here to say that your efforts did not go unnoticed that night!
