We really enjoyed our lunch stop at Blakes's today. Took part in both lunch specials. My husband had the tilapia and shrimp with au gratin potatoes and fried okra. I had the steak and shrimp with squash and Mac n cheese. Hubby stopped half way through and stated "this is a damn good meal!" My steak was an absolutely perfect medium and tasted like it had been grilled in my back yard. Yum! The squash was home grown and the mac & cheese was delish. This place was great. The sirloin, medium, was seasoned great and juicy. I'm super picky because husband makes perfectly seasoned steaks. My kids and husband enjoyed their meal too. First and foremost. Luling, Texas is a small country oil town. The oil boom of yesteryear is gone. However it is a very productive and friendly town. If you're from large metro cities and use to high class living then Luling may or may not appeal to you. Blake's Café is what it is a country down to earth home style type of business. We love Blake's! They have great burgers, chicken fried steak, and fried shrimp. Everything is decently priced too, which is awesome. The only downfall to Blake's is that they allow smoking inside, which is a turn off. Especially to those of us with kids whom we want to protect from second hand smoke. Everything I've had at Blake's so far has been high quality. The onion rings, chicken fried steak and pickle chips are all fresh hand breaded and fantastic. We also had the large cut ribeye and it was a great steak, much better cut of meat than you can get at the grocery. I would definitely go back for the steak, onion rings and pickle chips. read more

I loved Blakes. I have been eating here and at the other location in McQueeney for 15 years. This was the worst experience I've had here. I called to find out the special. They said$8.99 for either steak and shrimp or fish and shrimp. 5 minutes later I walked in she said they are out of the special. "We've ran out a while back. " Ok I just called 5 minutes ago but Ok. I need the menu. So I asked do you have any fish she said yes. Ok? Do you have shrimp?" Yes were just out of the special. " so you have everything to make the special and it's over an hour till the end of the lunch time but you don't have the special. So I ordered the fish as it's Friday during lent. They always bring bread and butter. Today the bread was hard. And the butter was so cold it was hard, unspreadable. I had water but she put down tea. All around pour waitress. She wasn't bad looking but not pretty enough to ignore the poor service. The food was pretty good besides the bread ordeal. Management needs to fix this. I just realized they still over charged me. The total was $10.81. The order was 8.99 I had water. The total should have been$9.73. read more

I have lived in luling my whole life and I have always loved going to Blakes. They always have a wonderful staff! Everyone is so friendly! Even when they have to handle difficult customers(which I have witnessed), they are always professional and sweet . They always try to accommodate for any disappointments customers may have with their service. I have never tried anything on their menu that I did not like. I'll choose to think that my young waitress was just new or having a bad night. Chose Blake's based on Yelp. Knew something was up as I walked in and the guy who appeared to be a manager was fussing at an employee because of a cash register issue. (Matter of fact it appeared that the wait staff was kinda bickering among each oher the whole time) I was dining alone and was seated (not a very busy Monday night) and waited about 9 minutes for anyone to show up to wait on me. By then I knew what I wanted so I ordered water, Chicken Fried Steak, Baked Potato and Ceasar Salad. Menu said everyone gets bread but not me, she never brought me any. Food came out quickly (TOO QUICKLY, MEANING IT AIN'T COOKED TO ORDER) the CFS was decent, big but nothing special tasting. Baked Potato was good but not hot and she forgot my salad. I reminded her and she started to the back to get it, but then took the order of another table on the way. Kinda expected the salad before my meal but that's just me. Never saw my waitress again until I had to motion for her to bring me check. She never checked on me or refilled my water. So the food might be OK but the service was horrible. I'm the guy who left you a $2 tip on a $14 check. Hope she learns from this. Treat the lone diner with the same attention as the 4-tops and 6-tops. read more
