Wide open and welcoming at one time this was a roller rink!

Great family Cafe with an awesome menu and fantastic service! Forgot to take appetizer pic of crab stuffed jalapeños & forgot to take a picture of the blackberry cobbler! Here for the watermelon festival and starting it out right with Blake's!

    Best fried pickles ever!

Don't you dare grab fast food when you could enjoy a visit to this sweet small town! Loved Blake's. Don't let the pic deceive you about that burger-it was thick and juicy. Best fried pickle chips ever!

If your traveling in this area, you should surely stop at Blake's Cafe to experience an older ambiance where you can feel the old west. The food here is reminiscent of old time cooking. The 1/2 pound hamburger was a cooked to perfection. Our server could not have served us better. Friendly atmosphere and ready to please all around. Right on Main Street, this old building takes a page out of the past!

My husband and I take my daughter Katie's six children and her hubby to Blake's every summer when they come visit from Virginia.

The staff is fantastic! The food was delicious and the portion size was huge. Best restaurant in Luling! (Not including the BBQ places) A great place to take the entire family.

This restaurant is basically a wide open space situated in a rustic building with an old tin type ceiling. After you place your order they will bring you a couple of warm rolls on the house. However, if you want to start off with a beer, unfortunately, they have absolutely no craft beer other than Shiner Bock. The mushroom Swiss burger and the chicken fried steak were well worth what they charge. You really get what you pay for here. Check out the bill in the photo below. If you're looking for some good grub at a budget price while in Luling, this place should be on your list.

Best steak I've had in a very long while! Everything was superb!!! Definitely coming back when I'm in the area again. People serving were friendly and on point! It feels like an old western small town restaurant. Loved it.

We were house hunting in the area and stopped downtown on a suggestion for lunch. Old, worn out, dirty and nothing special. Server was nice enough, food not much better than an average diner.. (in fact some diner food we've had has been outstanding) . It will probably never be on "Triple D" any time soon. Luling is still rural Texas at the moment, but can do better on it's dining fare with a little effort.

Very old type atmosphere with interesting decor and a friendly staff. The food is very country dinerish.

The food, which in my case was a hamburger was absolutely wonderful. The french fries were equally well done. The portions are generous and given how busy the restaurant is it was very well prepared. Again, given how busy this particular restaurant is the service is amazingly efficient, and the staff is very nice. Although I would suggest it is not a place you would necessarily want to come to relative to its ambience on the other hand you would miss a wonderful meal if you did not. In my case I chose the meal over the ambience and it was well worth it and that is the reason I give it five stars.

The food was especially good with large portions and very reasonably priced. I understand there is a meat market next door (I assume the meat comes from there). My Philly Cheese Steak was excellent. The hamburgers are 1/2 pound (unless you want bigger) and very good. My wife had the BLT and was amazed at how much better than normal the bacon was. Our nephew, who is a big eater, couldn't even finish his chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and country gravy and said he's never had better. We all had fries and they were fresh, house-made, and delicious. None of us could finish them all. We pass through Gonzales maybe a dozen times a year and since this place is a couple of block west of where we join Hwy 90A, we've never seen it. Other reviewers mentioned that it seems to be a favorite of the locals and now it one of ours too. The tables fill the room and if there were more I'm sure they would fill them, though that might mean the fast service could suffer, so to me it's fine as is. We will return and will start planning our trips to include lunch here. They close at 2 pm so will leave home with that in mind.

Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

So as of 2026, the barbecue place is about 68 years old. It's considered one of the classic old-school Central Texas barbecue joints and still operates much like a traditional meat-market-style BBQ house. This is an older building, including bathrooms... One of which was not working. Was disappointed that their sides include potato salad, and beans only because when I go to barbecue, I love Colliard greens, potato salad, beet salad, etc. not available here. The brisket slice I had likely the best piece of brisket I've ever had in my life. Now... Don't go crazy. I don't eat brisket typically when I do barbecue. The rib that I had was decent. The sausage I had by comparison to other barbecue places was unfortunately the worst that I've ever had. I'm not sure what grind they use, but it seems like it was more beef and somewhat sweet to my pallet which I personally don't care for in sausage. Overall, if I just wanted brisket, I would return but next time I'm in Luling I likely will go to the place right next-door to them and try them.

I wanted to find some Bucee items for Doc since she's been our road trip driver plus made all the arrangements for hotels, tickets to parks, dinner show, etc. We all got different things: hubs got small bags of jerky, Doc got her favorite brisket sandwich to share with her Frenchie, a sausage on a stick and 3 peach cobblers for each of us to try.
