I have been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old, so that's 60+ years. (Yes, I am older, but I…read moream not a cranky old lady!) Thus, I have a lot of experience buying glasses. My husband needed glasses, so we were planning to buy him 2 pair: regular glasses and prescription sunglasses. This America's Best in Granite Run was the absolute WORST experience I've ever had buying glasses. We looked around for a while and picked out frames we liked and took them to a young woman who was sitting at a table messing around with some paperwork. (There was no one else in the store, either customer or employee.) She told us she was not the optician. I asked if we could see the optician and she responded that the optician was in a meeting in the back. I asked if she'd tell the optician we were there. We waited ten or fifteen minutes without any acknowledgement and then I said to my husband, this is insulting, let's go. So I told the young woman we were leaving, and she said "fine." As we approached the door, an older woman came out, looking angry and hostile. I asked her if she was the optician. She said yes, but she's in a meeting, what did we want? I said, we wanted two pairs of glasses, when is your meeting over? She said, I don't know. I said, well, it's pretty insulting to sit here for ten or fifteen minutes waiting. She replied, don't exaggerate, you've only been here for five minutes. I said, I am not exaggerating, and besides, who schedules a meeting in a retail establishment for the middle of the day?? (It was about 130pm.) She said, I do, I'm the general manager for all the stores in this area. My husband and I were pretty fed up, so I said, I don't see us getting glasses here, so we're leaving. She responded by waving her hand toward the door and said, OK, go. I said, whatever happened to the customer is always right? She said, it's not true, the customer is not right very often. We left and drove up Baltimore Pike to the Lenscrafters in Springfield, and the difference was like night and day. There were three employees on site, and they couldn't have been nicer. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I can't comment on the prices because both my husband and I have complicated prescriptions and we wear our glasses all day, every day, so we don't complain too much. I figure if they come in between $500 and $800 per pair, that's OK. I had already bought new glasses at the optometrist I saw, but we ordered two pair for my husband at the Lenscrafters, for a total of about $1200. America's Best lost that sale solely due to the rudeness of their so-called manager. There are a lot of opticians in the Media/Granite Run/Springfield area. There's no reason to go to this store.

The name sounds a little haughty. Main Line Optical…read more Kind of conjures visions of people in bespoke Zegna clothes, wearing Piaget chronographs, double parking their Bentley Roadsters on Lancaster Avenue, while they pick-up their diamond-encrusted , platinum sun glasses for the flight to West Palm. But, only if you haven't been there. When you walk through the door of the iconic Ardmore storefront, you are made to feel instantly welcome, thanks to the attentive, skilled staff. It's also a great sign when the Boss is there to greet you, warmly, as well. Rich, the owner/operator, who has been dedicated to serving people in this community since the 1980's, is an absolute treasure. He is honest, ethical, has a kaleidoscopic understanding of the optical industry and a deep concern for the customer's needs. There are psychiatrists and bartenders who could learn a lot about successfully interacting with their clientele from Rich. His pricing is more than fair, Especially, given the quality of the products and the value of the service that he and his team provide. I cannot tell you how many times that I have had a mishap ( meaning my fault ) with the stylish, durable glasses that I have purchased from Rich and when I have returned to the store for repairs, he has never once charged me. I believe that any successful retail enterprise is based on relationships between merchant and customer, in addition to the products and services provided. I will take Rich's word and his handshake over 50 warranties from most any other optical company with which I had done business before I came to Main Line Optical for the first time, about 25 years ago. So what's in a name? Not much. What's inside when you enter Main Line Optical? A great customer experience predicated on personal, ethical service, quality products and people you trust with something as important as your vision.
