I don't want to spend $35+ on a water bottle or keychain with a college logo on it, $40 for a vinyl toiletry bag, or $25 for a dishtowel -I don't think I've ever been greeted when I walk into Ellen's, despite the fact that there are almost always four women standing right behind the counter -Even upon purchasing items at Ellen's the salespeople are aloof and unfriendly -I don't like their return/exchange policy for gifts. They base it on the date the gift was purchased (one month from that date), which has nothing to do when you receive the gift. I asked for a credit on a gift that was given to me recently but they turned me away because of the date of purchase, which was about two months ago. When the saleswoman asked Ellen about it Ellen didn't even turn around to acknowledge my presence, she just shook her head. I found it to be extraordinarly rude. There are plenty of other shops with great customer service, more reasonable prices, and fairer return/exchange policies.

They have every sort of candy to make a kid (or adult) smile...and jewelry too! Candy and jewelry...a store after my own heart. They have all sorts of classes and events happening weekly at Sweet Buddha. Everything from a homework club (genius) to trunk shows to cupcake decorating (yes, more sugar). I've also heard from many friends who were frequent visitors of their old city location that they throw some pretty amazing bday parties! My daughter has already told me (about 1273 times) that she'll be having a future bday party at Sweet Buddha. Sweet Buddha isn't just for kids! When my own summer bday bash on the beach got rained out the owner, Sarah, was nice enough to let us to let us rent the space last minute. It was the perfect venue and I'll definitely look into for all future partying planning in my future (bday parties, moms night outs, baby showers, etc). I'm as thrilled as my little ones to have this in Glencoe and excited to see how this city business adapts to the burbs. I'd love to see some more mommy/caregiver & me classes on the calendar since there's not much for the under 2 crowd in the North Shore. I also think their creative bday party packages are amazing, but the rental fee if you want just the space is a bit high when compared to all the park district rooms nearby (not that the PD rooms are nearly as adorable). Fortunately, the owner is pretty "sweet" herself and I have no doubt will make Sweet Buddha a big success here in Glencoe!

The painting was fun, and the added bonus of keeping the kids busy while waiting for the parent to arrive was genius. They have friendly high schoolers working with the kids from local schools! Overall, a fun experience. Next time it's the adults to paint and sip on wine!

Three years ago I would have been shocked if someone told shopaholic me that I'd enjoy shopping for my kids way more than myself, but it's true. I skipped the cute women's clothing and made my way towards the back of the store to check out the cute little onesies, tutus, etc for my little ones. I just so happened to be here during the Winnetka Sidewalk Sale so I got some fab deals on kicky pants PJs and other cute outfits for my son. I didn't have as much luck for my daughter, but next time we're in need for a tutu we'll be headed here. If you stop in on the 363 days the Winnetka Sidewalk Sale isn't happening it can be a bit pricey, but definitely worth checking out for the kids. And perhaps even yourself.

A fun top and jeans for yourself, a baby gift and card to match for the little one in your life, a candle for a hostess gift along with a cute sparkly card, some perfume for your sister, earrings for your mom along with a necklace to match, oh and a bracelet for your sister-in-law. Might I add, they have so much more. This is the store for you if you're looking for more of a one-of-a-kind look rather than the, everyone is wearing it vibe. When I walked in I was trying to keep up with my eyes as I was scanning everything as fast as I could but then kept looking back because I didn't want to miss anything. When I stopped in today the owner happened to be in and she was so friendly and kind, I was very impressed. She seems very down to earth and just wants we customers to walk away happy. I'm so glad I found this place. I'll definitely be back.

But when I'm looking for a new idea the sales associates are always super helpful and I'm in and out within minutes....with a beautifully wrapped home gift in my hands. Whenever i"m in here something catches my eye for my own home, but with the exception of a napkin holder for our own powder room I tend to just shop here for gifts. They have nice things but the prices are very high for what they are. The salesperson asked me a veiled question "are you from the area or visiting?" It made me feel bad. I've lived in town for 12 years and I said "we don't look like people who live here but we do live down the street". To which she said, and it kinda floored me, " I don't judge people by their clothes." I should note we were dressed very casually. She was trying her best to size us up which is just gross to be honest. She exhibited the type of off-putting vibe that gives the North Shore a bad rep. I really don't know who's buying all this oversized white serve ware but it won't be me.
