First time shopping here; I came in here because I needed gifts for all the new babies in my life…read more Staff was helpful in finding sizes for the sunglasses I picked out, but I had an idea of what I wanted before I walked in. The store is well organized with lots of tailored, quality options that make nice gifts; more on the vintage/preppy side. Don't know how the clothes hold up with washes but if the price tag is any indication, I'm going to assume well. There is a sales rack in the back that have a good variety of styles/sizes as well. I'm also on their e-mail distribution list since and used a 15% off coupon I received.

Apparently Janie and Jack is selling items they don't posses. So some items in my GIFT order were not in stock and not only they canceled this order. But NEVER notified me that it was canceled. Now it's 5 days before Christmas and I have no gift. The customer service representative was not only not apologetic, but also gave me an attitude; as if it was MY JOB to know the inventory, how dare u order an AVAILABLE item off their website without knowing it's actually not available. What a ridiculous waste of money. Order# J05561853

The staff here said hi as I entered and then gave me the freedom to browse. Anyway, it's a lovely little store with some really nice things. It's not just a clothing store, which I appreciate. They do have clothing, but when I was here most of the merchandise was non-clothing; books, toys, games, and so on. The prices weren't super out of line with other children's stores around. The clothing is more on the expensive end--they don't really seem to sell mid-range stuff here. But it's high quality children's clothing (but do check labels--I've been to some children's stores where dry clean is recommended and that's not something I can justify for children's clothing, though I do forget to check the labels). I stopped in to see if I could find something for my friend's son for his birthday, but didn't find something that jumped out on me at this trip. I am not in Northfield very often, so it's not a shop that would be a place that I would just pop by. But if you're looking for something special or a nice gift it would be a good place to take a look.

Maya Papaya is primarily a clothing store, and let me tell you...it's cuuuuute and the owner is super sweet. I've been coming here for years, and though my kiddos are too old now for the clothes, they still have a small selection of gifty items, fun for all ages. From trivia card games to books, their section of toys is geared toward the younger crowd. The clothes are well-edited, and you'll find a fairly mid-to upper scale collection of both boys and girls clothing and onesies for infants with cute sayings like *Bundle of Oy*! And, they also carry adorable shoes. For the parent who wants to take a chill moment, they also have a nice seating area where you can take a break from the kiddie rat race. This store used to be down the street and around the corner. Their new location is much bigger and right on the corner. I've never had a problem getting rockstar street parking out front, but take note, there is a small step up for those with strollers. But, I'm sure Simone will be more than happy to hold the door :-)

They followed me around and every time I asked about sales or if they had something in stock they refused to help or said no. I understand that they were getting ready to close but if that's he case, close your doors. They followed me as if I was a booster of some sorts. Keep in mind, I was not the only one in the store. I will be reporting those two to corporate as you guys reading should know that I mean business. I will go to the one downtown on Michigan Ave. as they are always friendly and willing to help find stuff, even at closing time. They also have a wider selection than this selection, it's very limited. They have lost my business at this location. Gap needs to seriously hold a diversity and inclusion training for those two nuts!!! I felt offended last night.

I'm actually writing to tell you that I popped in here on a Sunday...it was a sale day...and their sales team bent over backwards to find me the size of pants I needed for my boys. Ummm...hello! They actually went in the back and checked stock - twice and brought out several options in the sizes I needed. Do you think they read my last review? I just wanted to tell you that I'm starting to restore my faith in this particular location. Thank you for pulling it together at your store, because I've been really unhappy with the customer service and you managed to take a super frustrated mom with twins and win her over again. I'll be back...and not just because there's a sale. Because you managed to win me over :-)

The Men's section is a little more than a third in floor space--a remarkable size compared to what we usually get in other clothing stores. Throughout the store, the lighting is better, the racks are spaced out, the clothing is grouped in style and not so randomly placed as in their previous location. Zara and H&M are closely linked, style-wise, but Zara has better quality, and thus, higher prices. I appreciated two salespeople asking me if I needed help--better customer service to go along with their spiffy new location.

It takes divine intervention to reconcile such conflict. Luckily Gabriel's closet provides a brick and mortar space for such a miracle to occur. Like their namesake, they exemplify the divine virtue of utmost moral conviction in their mission live without waste, while at the same time manifesting kindness of the highest quality to those who can't afford luxury in their current financial state. They two perform acts of charity. The first is providing access to affordable high quality goods. The second is allowing the poor to maintain their dignity by being able to purchase it rather than experiencing the embarrassment that can accompany getting things for free. Practically speaking, the store has a large selection, constantly cycling selection of high end items in good condition. Their prices are more than fair. To compare I bought my son a new pair of shoes of average quality at target for $33 dollars, I bought my daughter 3 pairs of high quality shoes for the exact same price and the entire experience was much more pleasant. The staff at Gabriel's closet were so accommodating and respectful, and my daughter was able to play in their kids area while I looked around (the store is laid out in such a way that I could maintain visual on her the when time.) Someone might read this review and think I am exaggerating or being paid to say all these things. This couldn't be further from the truth. This is just what an experience at Gabriel's closet brings out in me. If you want to save money, own nice things, live more responsibly, and have an altogether much more pleasant shopping experience, go to Gabriel's closet. If you hate yourself shop somewhere else...and reach out to me. I can help you find a good therapist. HASHEM should bless the good people involved in Gabriel's closet that their work should continue successfully for many years to come!

I visited for the first time today in order to look for some cold weather clothing for my daughter…read moresince we're expecting our first really cold days and probably snow. The stars aligned because I got some great gear and fantastic prices. One piece I picked up was a Patagonia snow bib and I can't believe my luck because my daughter, who's been in the 90%+ percentile since she was a couple weeks old, fit it perfectly even though it was a size 3. It was $60 at Gabriel's, and the same or a similar snow bib was $100 more at the Patagonia store. I also got a pair of nice mittens, and a great coat for my babe... really great finds. They have more than just clothing. There are toys, I saw some babywearing baby holders, shoes, books, and so on. They carry things by season I think, so definitely worth visiting every few months at least! They also post their items online, so you can purchase and arrange for local pickup or ship. I think the employee said that for orders over $75 shipping is free, otherwise it's $9. If you order for pickup, they ask that you do so within seven days. It's super helpful that they have a small gated area with some kids toys, which kept my daughter busy whilst we were here (kept her attention so well that I struggled to get her to try on a few things). The one thing that I wish they did have was some sort of dressing room. I don't like having to return things, so I want to make sure they fit on the spot! Also, since their return policy is 7 days for store credit only, making sure things fit properly is even more important to me. If the shop has any dedicated parking, I don't know where it is. Luckily, we were able to find some street parking right on Prospect around the corner from the store. It's also located in Uptown, so there's a good deal of free 3-hour parking in the area by the library and the other shops down the block.
