There's all the big ones - luxury Chanel, Dior, the occasional Hermes (!!) as well as more contemporary brands such as Rebecca Taylor and Theory. They have a huge selection of clothes, jewelry, shoes, bags, as well as home items like art and furniture. Items range in condition from new with tags to used but all in great condition. Depending on when you go there are some great sales including a big one in the summer. Can't write a review without shouting out the lovely ladies who work in the shop! I was so disappointed when I made an appointment to bring some items in. There were about 22 pair of shoes and 15 jackets and sweaters. The first note from the manager was- that's about of stuff--- well if you don't want that much, then limit it on your website. A nice way to put it would have been to say "thank you, but we may have to make another appointment". I'm a recently retired physician and have many nice work shoes and clothing items that were never worn, especially during COVID, and would have liked to consign so others could enjoy. It isn't worth the hassle factor. Just donate straight away. read more

I brought my clothing for consignment to the shop inside a Banana Republic garment bag--which they whisked off to the back room and didn't return to me. Stay away! So many stories, but I dare not share here. Suffice to say that the stores are run very unprofessionally. They lose your items and sell items that may or may not be authentic. If you are from Kenilworth, lake forest or winnetka, (for example) have no fear, you will be treated great. Others, beware. Please go elsewhere. Cynthia's in the city is a great alternative. I am writing this review as someone who tried to provide Nortshore Exchange dresses/purses/jewlery for consignement for the very first time and had a very negative experience. I spoke to them extensively on phone and email as to their rules/procedures. I scheduled an apt weeks in advance. I spent HOURS going through my pieces, making sure their names were on the list they provided me, placing them on hangers, dry cleaning some, placing them in garmet holders and organizing them. First, Barbie tried to cancel stating that they don't take more than 30 items at a time, even though when I scheduled they were aware on 90 items. Then she spoke down to me telling me that they would not accept chain store merchandise and giving me details such as we take Elie Tahari, not T Tahari or Tahari. We take Michael Kors, not Michael; we take only purple line Ralph Lauren. Once I insisted that I was ok with all that, she then extended the apt to 90 minutes and I had to cancel the apt I had after. Today she emails me saying that she was made aware just yesterday that they have a backlog of inventory and I should call to reschedule my apt in December. Basically, it does not sound like they want to consign for anyone (or perhaps she has some sort of prejudice against me specifically). They have no respect for anyones's time/efforts in preparation. Their guidelines for consigment on their website is not accurate or at least they don't stand by it. This was overall a very negative experience with an employee that is neither friendly or considerate. Barbie had the audacity to ask me schedule an apt in December/January after she has already showed me they were not interested in anything I was to bring without insight into who I am or what I was bringing in. I would not recommend consigning with them and I will never step in their store either. read more

BUYER BEWARE. Purchased what was claimed to be an authentic Louis Vuitton bag (like new condition), within a month the coating began to peel away. We brought it in questioning its authenticity and was told we should take it to LV directly. We took it to LV, who wouldn't repair it because it wasn't purchased from LV. Upon bringing the bag back to NorthShore Exchange the owner (Wendy) was incredibly rude blaming us for allegedly leaving it in a hot car? She would not stand behind a product that cost over $2,000. No records of authenticity, etc. Lesson learned on our part (don't buy a luxury bag second hand). Great mission, bad customer service. read more

I purchased a designer necklace. It was represented well! It shipped on time and it arrived in perfect condition. I check the inventory daily. It is an addiction for me! My only constructive suggestion is to post gram weight of the sterling and gold pieces. It would give me a better idea if the heft and quality of the piece. I have emailed and requested information and have been told I need to come in to the store. I live in Michigan so this is not a possibility. Beware that their process to view and accept items before you know what you will get is long. They take the item, and you get no cash, only an email of receipt, then they take their time pricing it, if.... I never heard back. In short, my 4 items were lost, and they said, 'this CAN happen, and that's Ok, because they probably were sold for a good cause'. Only offered me 60 dlls, it seems like the minimum amount they could 'guess' for only 3/4 items they found recorded in their system,which pictures actually did not match what I gave them. The kind of service was very low when I tried to contact them, and the manager simply did not have a regretful reaction when she gave me the story, which took months to be revealed. I sensed they have more items that they can organize. I do not expect nor want a response here from them because their opportunity to make it right was never evident when I reached out to them. read more

This nonprofit luxury resale shop donates all proceeds to local charities, which I can definitely get behind. Having had a couple of experiences with consignment outlets during and after a closet purge, North Shore Exchange, at least the location in the 900 North Shops, was a breath of fresh air. I had a handful of items to donate and did not want to trek all the way over to the e dropoff boutique on Halstead. I am glad that I ventured in here as my items were graciously accepted. The store is merchandised well, and I was pleasantly surprised that they accept shoes and handbags. I read through all of the paperwork and the terms seem transparent--although the jury is still out as my goods that I consigned a few weeks ago, and most recently today, have yet to sell--but I am happy so long as they are out of my closet and doing some good in the world. read more

It is the worst store to work with. The process to list something is painful and after all the trouble they send you a check for each item sold and charge you an extra 4.00 dollars per check. Why not to wait until all items are expired and pay you at the end or have a direct deposit or let u choose what u want to do. Disclaimer: This is for the Michigan Ave. location This is an awful place with prejudice and judgmental staff. The lady who was working in the store on the day that I visited makes me disgusted to the bones. My daughter literally twisted my arm to go into this place because she was enamored of their artsy chairs that were displayed ever so lovely in their window. Upon walking in, I was "greeted" by a rude sales lady who looked at me up and down--you could tell she was judging every inch of my body and clothing article. Maybe because on the day that I walked in, I wasn't dressed to fit the criterion of clients she expected to shop in the store. I wasn't carrying my Louis Vuitton purse. I was dressed in a simple black tee with jeans because well #momlife. It was raining outside. We had just come in from Maggie Daley Park where the only appropriate thing to wear there were leggings. I don't believe in displaying wealth in public--but I will say that I easily could have bought a few pricey things including the chair set that my daughter was eyeing. I was interested in giving this store a shot until that sales lady robbed me of my dignity and respect. The straw that broke the camel's back was when she said that they have two stores including one up on Glencoe..."if you ever get up there" and said it in a snarky demeaning way. Newsflash: I am from the North Shore. You ain't gotta throw shade, girl. To the manager/owner of this consignment store, please have a serious conversation with employees about how they treat every person who walks into their store. No one should ever feel as belittled walking out of there. What I hated most was that this lady made me feel the way she did in front of my 3-year old daughter. It's a well-edited collection of high-end furniture, clothing, rugs, dishes, jewelry, etc. brought in on consignment or donation. The storefront itself is absolutely adorable and inviting. The staff is around for specific questions, but they also let you look around without any hassle. Some of the furnishings are priced extremely well for what they are. For example I saw a 6 x 8 wool rug for $250 in very good condition. But some seemed a bit off-base, like a couple of side chairs for nearly $200. That being said, the profits go to a local charity, which in turn keeps the $ in the community. Interesting. I first went to the Old Orchard location mid-june, I had a wonderful experience with a very nice lady, she had short brown hair. I was unsure about the bag I wanted, and I wanted to bring my Mom back but time got away from us as I was leaving for vacation the next day. I thought it was a great price for the bag in the condition it was in. Fast forward to 3 weeks later, I was still thinking about the bag when I returned home from vacation, so I called today for more information to see if they still had the bag, and they did! The lady on the phone asked if I wanted her to hold it but before I could say yes she said "never mind I can't" - which is okay, I understand that business is business. I brought my dad back 4 hours after this call, with our 2 dogs, and before I even entered the store, one of the employees was returning from what I assume is her break- and rudely snapped at us "dogs are not allowed in this store- I work here." I was taken a back by the attitude she gave us and then she said "we have a lot of DESIGNER goods in here like furniture." Okay, so dogs aren't allowed (it's a dog friendly mall, even the guy who works at Tiffany heard her and was so shocked he came up to my dad asking him if he would bring them into Tiffany and he could give them some water.) I understand they are worried about damage, but there was no need to cop an attitude off the bat. I went in to the store, I was not greeted, and after looking around I did not see the bag. When I went to ask the girl with the attitude if they still had it she was texting and continued to look at her phone when I walked up and was asking her the question and she informed me that they had just sold the bag (okay, again! I understand) but she did not offer to show me similar styles or ask if there was anything else I was interested in. North Shore Exchange has lost a customer who would have been very loyal, especially since I love that the profits go to charity but after the way I was treated I would rather give my money to Louis Vuitton for 2x the price, donate to charity on top of it and save the aggravation of attitude! Missy helped us one day and was absolutely amazing then we came in a day later and she wasn't there. I believe the women's name was Sharon- and she was so rude to us. So stuck up and absolutely unpleasant. We had been cleaning out the attic and so we weren't wearing five hundred dollar shoes... And she treated us like absolute dirt. Bought a pair of Lagos silver caviar drop earrings that was labeled "moonstone" on the $245 store tag and that 2 sales people said were moonstone. That night, after examining the earrings under bright light, I discovered that that these earrings are NOT moonstone. When I looked the earrings up online, I found that these earrings are mother of pearl overlaid with carved quartz. The next morning I called to speak with the manager, who I was told was "Barbie". She left a voicemail message 1 hour 46 minutes after I had called. When I returned her call 8 minutes later, I was put on hold for over 5 minutes and finally hung up. I intended to contact my credit card company to handle this transaction. FYI: Within minutes of posting this YELP review, the store called me to question about the validity of my assertions. When I told her that I have 6 different online pictures stating these earrings are MOP overlaid with faceted quartz, I was informed that I would be getting a refund when I returned the earrings to my nearest location at 900 M Michigan and she requested that I "CONSIDER CHANGING MY YELP REVIEW". read more

The North Shore Exchange (old GlenCote Thrift Shop) had a major renovation and overhaul last winter. If you ever by chance stumbled into the old thrift store - it was kind of outdated and haggard. The NSE has been totally made over and now carries higher end home furnishings, jewelry, clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. Most of the staff are volunteers but still cheerful and helpful. It is good to note that they are not open on Mondays as they restock and bring out new items. I like to walk by and peak in to see if there are any new finds. Some items tend to sell really fast as they are well priced and it is also good to note that if something doesn't sell within 30 days the price is further reduced. If there is something you are eyeing it is worth the effort to check back in every so often as you may find a real steal. I tend to shop the jewelry and purses. I haven't found a piece of furniture that will work but I have high hopes. They do accept donations and consignments but it is by appointment only. If you are in the area it is definitely worth checking out.
