Beanstalk is the kind of toy store I wish is around when I was a kid. They carry a variety of toys and educational activity games. The store is clean and organized and I must mention the friendly staff on duty this past Saturday morning who offered to put a ribbon on a stuffed animal I purchased. There are plenty of street parking in front and around the store. It's a unique treasure for kids of all ages. This is an adorable toy store for the under 10 set. I am not in company with many youngsters theseadays, but I imagine this store is the kind of place they'd love. There's a train track that runs above the store with a train toddling along. I saw moms sitting on the floor while their kids explored. I was looking for newborn stuff, the store is more geared to toddlers and up, although lots of baby gear here too. I didn't stay long as I was looking for infant stuff but I imagine I'll be back when said newborn gets a little older. read more

For the North Shore area, this is my favorite toy store. I went in looking for gifts for my Godson's upcoming birthday (and, naturally, my son), and found a couple of cool gifts: a dual-mode scooter with a seat for younger toddlers and a classic riding machine for older toddlers. They beautifully wrapped the gifts, as we explored the rest of the store. My son was most entertained by Thomas the Train circling up above our heads. I asked if we could get the train and have it set up, and we were told it was possible, but they'd need to contact a man in FL who installed it. Impressive accommodation. They had a limited selection of books (especially books by our favorite authors), but were told they were ordering thousands more which would be in store soon. Beanstalk is so insanely adorable! It is packed to the brim with unique children's toys and it's the perfect spot to go to grab a gift for a special child in your life. They have butterflies hanging from the ceiling on some type of timer so they come down and raise up sporadically. The ladies working here are insanely helpful. We mentioned we were looking for a baby gift and she let us browse while bringing a bunch of great suggestions for gifts to us. It was nice and very thoughtful, explaining why each item was special, unique and would make a good gift for our situation and price point. When we checked out, they wrapped our gifts for us in adorable paper with ribbons at no extra charge. Truly a great experience shopping at Beanstalk. A one word description of this toy store is enchanted. While it seems many community's in the North Shore have there own neighborhood toy stores, this one is unique. Prior to COVID-19, there was a FREE carousel outside the store. A life-size toy soldier guards the entrance and an electric train circles the store at ceiling height. Even an automated parrot greets you upon entering the store. The store has toys for all ages from babies to older children. Our grandkids interests ranged from simple musical instruments to wooden train sets to a child's "tool" set. Gift wrapping is free. They don't carry "cheap" toys, but if you're looking for quality toys you should drive, walk or climb your way to the Beanstalk. read more

I was in town for the holidays and I was trying to find a gift for my son. Where I live, there are no toy stores, just Walmart's and targets. So when I came across this store, I was in awe! This store has a fantastic collection of toys! So many options and toys that I have never seen before! They have an enormous gumball machine that my son asks to go see every time we are in town. The toys are slightly more expensive but that is to be expected at a toy store. They have wrapping paper at the cash register and will wrap the gift. What a nice perk! What an adorable toy store in the heart of beautiful Highland Park! We took our children here to check it out, and I'm surprised it took us so long! It's a kids' wonderland with all kinds of goodies for the children to play with. Old school Pacman game, mini piano, various cars and bikes, in addition to different types of playsets all adorn this cute store. Prices are on par with any other high end toy store, especially it being in Highland Park. However, it was a pleasant experience overall. Apparently they also have a downstairs where children can pay to play. We will definitely return! read more

A large online retailer sent me an email 3 days before Xmas that my little guys train table present was lost and would not be delivered. :( All he asked Santa for was a choo choo. Santa called all around and found beanstalk had them in stock and would deliver them fully assembled the day before Xmas. The ladies were so kind to help order and not have Xmas ruined. I should have gone to them first. Lesson learned. read more

There's something in every corner here...butterflies that hang and move from the ceiling when someone enters. There's a wall of nostalgic games and magic sets, a train track suspended from the ceiling with an electric train running around it, a giant kid-sized house to peek into, and so on and so on and so on. If you've seen Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, this place has all you can imagine minus secret doors. And don't worry about the giant toy solder, he's harmless. I came in the other day to meet a friend who was finishing up a Friday reading session in the back reading nook. I hadn't been in here for years, and it's so so different now...better. It's magical, and there was was even a little girl walking around with big wide eyes looking at everything and squealing out, "ooh, mommy!" Sure there are other toy stores around, but unless you're shopping for a bike, come here for a truly magical experience. Got nephews or little nieces like Elaine M? Come here to spoil them. Good toy stores (or actually any toy stores) are hard to come by these days. I know that bringing my 2 year old to a toy store is likely to result in a tantrum because she's going to want to bring home the entire store. Instead with a click of a mouse I can get the toy I want at my doorstop within 2 days (shout out to amazon prime). However, sometimes it's nice to actually see the toys in person. I wondered in here on my own with a few minutes to spare before a metting nearby and even said out loud to the owner (i think) "I could never take my 2 year old in here. She'd go crazy with all these amazing toys." She responded "bring her in...we'll have fun w/ her!" A few days later I took her up on that offer, but was smart enough to have grandma in tow. Grandma told Toddler R that she could pick out 2 toys. As suspected Toddler R went nuts once inside this store. She ran around and pointed to everything she already has (note to self and grandma to stop spoiling her) and then did another lap around picking out everything she wants. The 2 toys turned into 4 toys because grandma couldn't say no. The owner was super helpful and even pointed to some suggestions of toys that would be great for Baby R, who was blissfully sleeping in the stroller throughout this madness. Toddler R is still talking about her trip to the toy store with grandma. Amazon Prime may be convenient, but you can't buy memories with the click of a mouse. read more

Our first time in here with our baby, we purchased a toy that turned out to be defective. When I went to return it, I was told that they only give store credit rather than refunds. Ok, but I purchased something that was defective. I would assume any good business person would give me a a refund for selling a defective toy. I asked that the owner call me. She never called, so I went to purchase another toy with my credit about 3 weeks later. It took about 15 minutes for them to "figure out how" to do this. I very much like to support local stores, but in this case, I will never shop here again. The staff is rude and business practices are very poor in my opinion, is unfortunate to them because they lost out on about 7 years worth of toy purchases. Also, their prices are EXTREMELY high compared to other stores in the north shore area for the same products. read more

Absolute worst customer service. I've been in here twice, no one ever offers to help. This last time I came in there were 4 workers standing behind the counter eating lunch. I asked if they had an item in stock and they said they had it on order and then went back to eating. Didn't offer to help me find something else or ask if I wanted to put my name down when one came in. I was greeted and assisted by a friendly sales staff associate. Not knowing what I was looking for, she directed me to an area stocked with a selection of toys for a 4 year old boy. I went with her selection, had the toy wrapped and I was happy. Weeks passed and the birthday party for my nephew arrived. As he opened our gift, the 15 or so kids surrounding him started squeeling as he raised the Angry Birds game over his head. Chaos ensued until they opened the game. I bought several things there, and I ended up returning all of them---overpriced. I know small businesses have to compete with Amazon, etc., but this stuff was REALLY overpriced! One of the reasons I like going to little shops is for customer service, but I didn't find one of their sales people on several occasions to be very friendly nor helpful. Tried to like this place, but I would just rather order online for specific things, go to Galt for cool toys or go to a boutique for cute specialty clothes in the city. read more

I am so impressed with Beanstalk! I went in to buy a gift to send to my little cousin in New Jersey who was just diagnosed with Leukemia. After picking the perfect stuffed animal and book Megan learned the reason for the gift being sent and waived the delivery fee! She said we all have to support each other ! What a wonderful attitude, what humanity and empathy. We live in a me, me, me world and there are still people like Megan who care deeply and put those feelings above other things. This is the most adorable toy store! My son is 13 months old, and he loves it! This is what a toy shop should be. They have a lot of great toys for kids to play with while you shop. Beanstock's is probably the best toy store I've ever been to. The toys and books are amazing, creative, and imaginative. They have many unusual toys and books you wouldn't find at any other store. Their buyer is a former pre-school teacher and really knows what kids like. The service is incredible, not only in helping customers find the perfect gift or gifts, but also in wrapping them so kids will be excited when opening them. I'm not related to anyone in this store. This week is sidewalk sale in Highland Park. I called Beanstalk and told them I could not make it over there because I was going to be out of town for the weekend. I mentioned that I had a two year old boy. I talked to Lloyd who set a time with me to come in a few days prior and told me that he would help me out. When I walked in, he had a whole stack of clothes and toys put aside for a two year old for me to look at. Not only did he meet me before the store opened but he also gave me the same discount that was going to be offered at sidewalk sales days earlier. When i grew up I wish I had beanstalk! The toys and books are so unique and diverse. There is something there for every child. For example, the carry WOW trucks, which is a huge seller! The best part is that they also carry classic toys and books, such as "Goodnight Moon", harmonicas, magnetic tiles, and jacks, . My favorite part is that not only do they carry toys and books, they carry many necessities for new borns and babies, such as diaper bags. baby-safe silverware, bottle cleaning sets, baby-safe bowls, etc. Also, they have a lot of items that can help prepare women for pregnancy.
