A remarkably poor way to handle a very simple customer request…read more I visited the Beacon Pub & Eatery in Whistler today and ordered the Wednesday Burger & Beer Combo for $20. As I don't drink alcohol, I asked whether I could have the non-alcoholic Pale Ale instead of the draft Pale Ale included in the special. I was told this was not possible because the alcoholic beer comes from the tap while the non-alcoholic beer comes in a different container. Fair enough -- so I asked what the additional charge would be to substitute the non-alcoholic Pale Ale. I was told $8. This made very little sense to me. According to their own menu, the Happy Hour Pale Ale is $7.50, while the non-alcoholic Pale Ale is $8. I would have happily paid the 50-cent difference. Instead of finding this very simple and customer-friendly solution, the staff initially refused. Only after I raised the issue a second time -- and, remarkably, after I had already finished my meal -- did a manager finally come to my table and offer me a non-alcoholic Pale Ale at no charge. By then, of course, the gesture was pointless. I had wanted a beer with my burger, not after I had finished eating. What disappointed me most was not the 50 cents, nor even the beer. It was the complete lack of flexibility and common sense in dealing with an extremely simple request. I wasn't asking for a discount or a free drink. I was perfectly willing to pay any reasonable difference. A good restaurant would have solved this in about ten seconds: "Of course. The non-alcoholic beer is 50 cents more -- is that okay?" Problem solved. Happy customer. Instead, something utterly trivial became an unnecessary argument, followed by an attempted solution that came far too late. Hospitality is not only about serving food. It is also about knowing how to handle simple customer requests with a little common sense and grace. Very disappointing experience.

We ordered the Wagyu burgers, which were tasty and well prepared, with fresh salad and crispy fries on the side. The tomato soup was just so-so for me. The bread was fresh, but it had so much cheese that it almost felt more like a thin pizza! If you love cheese, though, you'll probably really enjoy it. The only downside was that the food took quite a while to come out. Fortunately, everything tasted good when it arrived, so the wait was worth it. Overall, a very pleasant lunch spot with excellent service, beautiful views, and a relaxing Four Seasons atmosphere.

The back main dining area was incredibly loud, but luckily we snagged a spot near the bar, which was quieter. I appreciated that they informed us in advance about the 35-minute food wait time--it's always nice to have realistic expectations. I ordered the avocado toast and added smoked salmon. The smoked salmon portion was tiny--maybe 1 ounce--and it cost an extra $5 or $8, which felt overpriced. The salad that came with it was tasty and had a unique garlicky flavor, which I enjoyed. Their breakfast potatoes were also delicious! The avocado toast itself was just okay. Everything was served separately on the plate, which made it harder to eat and less flavorful compared to the crepe place in the village, where everything is layered on the toast. It might have been better if it came pre-assembled, given you're already using a fork and knife. At $30 CAD ($21 USD), the avocado toast felt a bit steep for what you get, but it was still a decent experience. Would recommend for the breakfast potatoes and ambiance if you can grab a quieter table!

We thought it was because of the tucked away location out of the main center, and decided to give this place a try considering its many reviews. Then we realized everyone else probably knew better. -Overpriced mediocre food $28-$35 for burgers and sandwiches that were small, dry, and bland. -Dirty, dusty, tables, and flies everywhere. -Bad service The overpriced mediocre food would have been acceptable considering its tourist location. We could have even excused the flies ...but then you add the bad service and understand that this place just sucks. Every time we needed something we had to hunt our server down-ketchup, water, a quick picture. The place was nearly empty. They didn't tell us the iced tea was sweetened. Most places mention this. No biggee. When we realize it is, we told them we didn't want sweetened iced tea and didn't touch it, but then our server gave awkward attitude when we asked (very politely) to have it removed from the bill. Is that not common sense? We asked for a box and after nearly 10 minutes went to check what happened...our server forgot. Maybe she didn't care to put in any effort because of the mandatory 20 percent tip charge for parties over 6 ppl. This would be fine if the service was near acceptable, or even if the service existed at all after dropping off our food. This place is a waste time, money, and your opportunity to try the businesses that actually deserve your patronage.
