We seated ourselves outside by the heater. We ordered a stein (30oz) of dinosour beer which tasted great and poutine with pulled pork. The crunchy fries with the savory pork was nice especially with some hits of the hot sauce. I wished it had more cheese curds though. When I was coming into Amsterdam Cafe, I was attracted by its hipster charm. There was colourful graffiti all over the walls, there were old televisions, other old objects for decorations and the waitresses were dressed in short-sleeved casual ware. The menu was pretty interesting as for as meals and alcoholic beverages go. I ordered the Vegan Budd-DAM Bowl and their Sex Off Pistol. the drink was decent, but nothing special. the vegan bowl was amazingly piquant. The tahini dressing brough everything together and the veggie ingredients tasted fresh. I highly recommend this dish to everyone, even if you are not a vegetarian. My only real complaint about the restaurant would be the noise level from the music playing. Other than that, I recommend Amsterdam in Whistler. read more

Great place to go to drinks with your friends! We sat on the patio for roughly an hour until we got asked to move inside because they close the patio after a certain hour, which is totally understandable. My friends and I split a pitcher of the Russell Honey Lager which was pretty good, and then once we moved tables the server convinced me to try the Friday's special however I did not enjoy it as it was way to sweet for my liking so I wish I just stuck with beer! Over 40 and lame like me? Or carting around energetic youths? Then this place may not be for you. Two reasons: loud (avg 86dB, max 97dB) and cleavage (boobs). It's not a huge place, and the food was actually pretty decent. The nachos in particular really hit the spot after a full set of runs all morning & afternoon. But where the three of us might have wanted to chat for a while ... that really wasn't an option given the volume of the (good) music. I suppose the Dam Hotties should have tipped me off but looking around I quickly discovered cleavage everywhere. Not just in the artwork but clearly guests had left behind some lingering impressions in the form of polaroids tacked up around the place. If you're game for this ambiance then this may well be a four star joint for you. Sadly, I was hoping to chat a bit and literally couldn't hear, hence one fewer star. It was such a nice vibe because they had heating lamps outside so we were able to sit, not be cold, and watch the snow falling and people walking. It was an amazing vibe. Best part of the experience. Food: We got the full rack of ribs. Was not impressed. The ribs didn't taste fresh. It's almost like they were cooked a couple days before and just headed up prior to serving. I chose one that I was expecting to be an American Pale Ale - but turns out it was an English Pale Ale - which has quite a different flavor profile vs. an APA - more malty and less hops. I prefer the APA but drank the Ale anyway. The place is really loud - so expect to yell a lot during your conversations. The bartender appeared to be in control of the volume and she was cranking it. This is the spot to hit after a day on the lifts! There is a spacious patio, more seats outside than inside. Daily drink specials make it fun to come and see what's new. There's generally a daily cocktail and a daily shooter that's well discounted. We stopped in for drinks and fries and the service was amazing. I was in Whistler during the summer and wanting to check out some of the nightspots. Went into this place because I saw a good crown. Very cool spot for some late night drinks. Gets a good crowd and good music. They had a few local beers and they were quite good, I was able to try a few. Earlier in the day it's also a restaurant although I did not try the food. The staff is very friendly and as busy as it gets they're attentive to everyone making sure everyone is able to get a drink. Whistler has it all, you can find just about whatever you crave or desire. However, when one is hungry to the point of extreme crankiness, it seems hard to find something to suit one's craving. I found myself in this situation after wandering the Village to find a late lunch/early dinner after the drive up from Vancouver. After already passing Amsterdam once, we decided to head back that way and just get something in our stomachs. Like so many other Whistler bars, it feels like an old college bar: Sports on the TV's, wood paneling, memorabilia on the walls, pretty waitresses, endless pitchers of beer, and greasy pub fare. I climbed into one of the spacious booths and scoured the menu. Their food menu is fairly small and basic and I couldn't really find anything I desired but I was starved at this point. I went with the veggie burger. Our waitress was very bubbly and conversational. She sat with us and chatted with us for a bit which was pretty cool. She talked about the mountain and gave us lots of cool suggestions. Very helpful in my book. The food wasn't great, about average but not major complaints. I also tasted the Poutine which I'm still frightened by the cheese curds idea but it was actually pretty good. Overall, Amsterdam was a cool place for a simple (albeit overpriced Whistler pub fare) bite and a beer. Service was the best part and it was enough to have me considering returning. read more

It's a good place to go with a large group (lots of tables and space) and/or to get a cheap(er) drink - they had $13 pitcher specials when I came - but the vibe seemed too divey. One of the beers on tap was completely flat and undrinkable, and many of the glasses were chipped and cracked to the point that they were almost leaking. My friend and I went to the bar on a Friday night and we each ordered drinks with some fries. I would recommend getting the garlic n' herb fries. The music was great (though a bit loud) and our server was extremely sweet. Based on this experience I would've given the place 5 stars. We decided to come back to this place for brunch on Sunday and got a more sobering experience. After I handed the snotty waitress my ID she rolled her eyes and said, "I said two forms of ID." My friend from Korea also tried to present two pieces of ID and the waitress wouldn't accept one just because she couldn't read it. Well what do you expect from foreigners? The food wasn't that great either. I ordered the margherita pizza which was half burnt and had hardly any tomato sauce or cheese on it. Just pieces of burnt tomato. I actually wanted to throw up a little after lunch. Then at the end I asked the server if she could split our check. She said she won't be able to because it's the weekend so they're too busy. I paused to look around the restaurant and she said, "What? Is that a problem?" Well, half of the restaurant was EMPTY but the service was still slow and the waitress wouldn't stop whining about how busy it was. I recall the place was twice as packed when I came on Friday night and our waitress that night still split the bill for us and the service was much quicker. I actually didn't try many new restaurants this time around up at Whistler since I wanted a relaxing trip where I could just eat and enjoy my food without needing to get pictures before. We did end up trying Amsterdam Cafe Pub for an early dinner. They have a patio area outside with heated lamps, so great since we were up on the mountains on a rainy and chilly weekend. The pub has minimal service, with you going in and looking for your own seats and a waitress coming to take your order. We shared two dishes including the Canadian Beef Dip, which featured a roasted beef inside a toasted baguette and a side of au jus for dipping. It also came with a serving of fries. At around $12, this was a relatively reasonable price knowing that Whistler can be quite expensive for average food. I like it when my roast beef is medium rare, but this was definitely well done, so it more rough and dry than I'd like. The good thing is that you get the au jus to dip in, so it moistens the beef. However, the au jus was overly salty. Fries were average. The other dish we got were the Honey Garlic Chicken Wings which came with a ranch dip. The wings were dressed heavily in sauce and topped with chopped green onions. I thought they were okay and would've gone great with beer. Wings were crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. Overall, based on the items we tried at Amsterdam Cafe Pub, I thought it was average. Your typical pub food, so don't expect too much. Service was also a bit slow since it was basically one waitress running around to serve all the tables. Good spot if you want food at Whistler that's priced reasonably though. Hm, it's ok. We went in twice this past vacation, once we were there for the night, after dinner, for the bar scene. The second time we were just in for a quick drink, then left since the service was so shitty. The bartender was a complete bitch, mostly because we are clearly American, and we didn't know that what we call a Molson's they call a Canadian. So we went elsewhere to continue to wait for our reservation at 21 Steps to become available. I can spend my money at a lot of places, it's my choice...I don't think we will go here again next year.
