Traveling through from Mississippi to Houston and needed a nice lunch break. Really glad we stuck it out and drove into old Hammond to visit this place. Pretty light crowd at 2 PM. Really interesting burger choices and the first time I really heard of "Gastro pub". The beer selection and food did not disappoint. We choose the bacon me jelly and coffee rub burgers. I subbed duck fat fries, because have you ever had good duck fat fries? Totally worth the $5 upcharge. I thought the food was excellent, but we both ordered Medium well burgers, and hers was clearly not. We ended up trading burgers because I'm not as scared of bloody meat as she is apparently. She will probably outlive me anyway. Fairly priced beer, and excellent gastro-pub fair. read more

Great burgers for sure!!! The fries were room temp and soggy. The Belgian pretzel was fabulous. It comes with four sauces, if your not a mustard lover I recommend requesting just the beer cheese. My first time in Louisiana. Had a blast in NOLA. But then came this way to hangout with one of my friends family's. And they recommended this restaurant. OHHH MY!! The food was amazing. Everything sounded good so we tried the truffle fries, jalapeño cheese curds and the four cheese artichoke dip. All of it, including the dipping sauce, had so much flavor. I felt like I was in some fancy restaurant in a big city. Then our brunch started pouring out. Plate after plate. Steak and eggs, truffle Mac and cheese with the blackened brew slider sampler, shrimp and grits and the blackened brew burger. I had to sample it all and let me tell you, this California boy couldn't get enough. Everything was absolutely amazing. I wish I had more time and a bigger stomach to try everything in this place. I can't wait to come visit my friends family again so I can also try more off this menu. The food was so good we only managed to take a couple of pictures. Lol that should say a lot. Followed yelp reviews to this place, having not a clue where in town to eat. We were immediately greeted by two women, one who told the other "all the way in the back, we need the front open". Just strange how we were greeted that way. Shrimp and grits included 3 pieces of shrimp. Very disappointing. Pulled pork nachos were nothing to write home about. The "homemade" nacho cheese was tasteless and there was very little actual pulled pork on them. We had our beer menu at the table and wanted to try drinks but the waitress never came and asked. Finally we decided not to get beer and that was their lo$$ because we likely would have had a few. We will not be back. If you go, I suggest a simple burger and fries. Frankly this place is as good as it gets for enjoying the one of the best cheeseburgers you'll ever sink your teeth into. Just to make sure we weren't hitting the establishment on a "extraordinary day" we visited here 3 times and ordered the same dish 3 consecutive times. All three experiences hit the bulls-eye with delivering a tasty / unique cheeseburger at a price that could easily be double. The coffee cheeseburger served with the truffle fries is truly a little slice of Hammond-Heaven. Wash it down with a cold pink lemonade Cider and you've been delivered to food-nirvana. Great food. Love the burgers but the Southwest BBQ wrap is amazing. It's always a struggle to Pick between one of the many delicious burger options or my favorite wrap. I have not tried it yet but the pretzel is HUGE and looks delicious. I've heard several great things about the pretzel. read more

You're Bacon Me Jelly burger was delicious! Not a fan of this batter on my onion rings but here's a pic for future reference for those of you that like onion rings. They are good, just not the type of batter that I prefer. Great joint with a wide selection of beers. Staff was very friendly and attentive. This is by far the best place to get craft beer on draft in Hammond. In addition to an amazing rotation of some of the best craft beers, they do some really great burgers! They have some good apps and a wonderful Buffalo Chicken wrap. I enjoy coming here because you are made to feel welcome from the owner to the servers. The bartenders are not trying to earn a tip, they have meaningful conversations with you. They recognize repeat customers and that means a great deal to me. The beer deserves more mention as the owner truly prides himself on what he can offer. In addition to a great selection, the staff is well trained on making beer suggestions based on the food you order. As the name implies, they do burgers and craft beer. The staff take their beer selection seriously, they know what they have on tap and they make excellent recommendations. The blackened brew burger is pretty good and the bacon they use is top notch. I've also sampled the blackened shrimp sandwich. I'm not a fan of sandwiches, so I picked the shrimp off of the French bread. It was seasoned perfectly, cooked properly, and tasted fresh. SLU Grad student here - quick summary This restaurant got rid of the fantastic burgers it was known for and that I would happily pay $13 dollars for. This restaurant has cut corners claiming to attract more students but thought smaller patties, smaller buns, no unique bun branding, cancelling their Waitr subscription, and removal of fries is the answer. Students dont want to pay $10.50 for only an overcooked burger. What attracts more students, is if you have weekly specials, updated menus every month, and good beer... Go back to bigger, correctly cooked burgers, one of a kind branding on buns, and fries with burgers. When you're staff doesnt like the changes, try listening to them. read more

Excellent concept, but failed to follow through. Their menu sounds amazing and the selection of beer is great.... but (of course there had to be a but) the first 2 beers my husband tried to order they were out of and I could barely eat my hamburger because I ordered it medium well and when I cut into it it was still bleeding. On top of all this, our server was not in a good mood and wasn't friendly at all. I really hope this place gets it together because I think they have great potential. My husband and I have been to The Blacken Brew several times. We love it here! The atmosphere, food, and staff are the best in Hammond. Today we came in for brunch and let me just say, wow! The foodie in me is always impressed by their menu! Today we both had the Steak and Eggs. Everything about the dish is perfect. You get a 6oz filet, with an over easy egg, grits, spinach and covered in a homemade hollandaise sauce. Normally I never finish my steak when we eat out but this time I ate every bite! read more

Absolutely awful experience. We started out with the Blue Cheese Stuffed Meatballs. Other than the tomato sauce that goes over the meatballs, the meat had very little flavor and we couldn't taste the blue cheese in the meatballs. Very disappointing. For an entree we each ordered burgers. My dining companion ordered the Cheese Please burger. When her burger arrived she noticed it did not have pimento cheese on the burger. When the server was questioned, he said they had ran out of pimento cheese and they just substituted with another cheese. This was a huge mistake on the part of the restaurant. They should have asked her if this was OK to substitute the cheese or would she have liked to order something different. She also ordered her burger to be cooked medium, but the burger was overcooked to the point that it had turned a grayish white color. I ordered the Blackened Brew Burger. I ordered it cooked medium, but it also was seriously overcooked. We asked them to take our burgers and to give us our check. We paid for our drinks and appetizer. We left to go down the street to eat somewhere else. We will NEVER eat here again. Our dining experience here makes me question the legitimacy of the other reviews for this restaurant because our experience was the complete opposite of the other reviews. We split a burger (the one with the "fancy" beef, can't remember) and fries and it was awesome. Tried out some local craft beer while we were there and was impressed. The bathrooms need some work, but otherwise, great find. Oh, and I do want to mention that was our first time to Hammond and it was a cool little town! This was our second visit to Blackened Brew, and it will absolutely be our last. We were the only patrons dining in, and there were more than 4 employees (in the bar area alone) wandering around drinking and playing on their phones. Somehow it still took almost 40 minutes to get our order (2 very simple burgers) and one of the orders was completely wrong. Cold fries, left off numerous toppings, and all the "manager" (?) did to fix it was bring out a burned topping on a separate plate 20 minutes later. No apology, incorrect bill (charged for toppings they they never brought out) and they were fixing someone else's incorrect carry-out order while we were there. Definitely not coming back. read more

Just what Hammond needed - a new restaurant that isn't the same old, same old! We finally got to go check it out yesterday, and we were blown away with the food, service & atmosphere. And not lost on us, was the owner was going around to greet his guests and making sure they were taken care of. We started out with two appetizers for the three of us, the stuffed meatballs & pretzels. The meatballs were AMAZING!!!! The pretzels and dipping sauce were very good as well. My son and I ordered the Blackened Brew burgers, which were on point!! My fiancé ordered the #OMG Burger which was made with Kobe Beef, and it definitely did not disappoint. I will admit, the 3 stars are not representative of this restaurant. This place could easily be a solid and consistent 5 star burger joint. I had to deduct one star for the fries and the over cooked burger patties. Both of us ordered the blackened brew burger. I ordered mine with a grass fed patty and Swiss cheese instead of blue cheese. Although they burned both of our patties, the overall burger was still good. I can only imagine how the burger would have tasted if our patty was cooked properly. The burger bun is freaking amazing! The truffle Parmesan fries need to be revisited. Maybe tossed in some duck fat or a garlic butter sauce and they would be over the top!
