Food was decent/average. The service was absolutely horrible. We were sat on the small patio of five tables; there were only customers at one other table and they already had their entrees. They sat a couple about 5-10 minutes after us and after another 5-10 a waitress came out to help them. We assumed she was not our waitress since she walked by us twice with no acknowledgement. She then returned with their drinks and THEN came to greet us. There was no apology for the wait (at this point it had been a good 15 minutes of sitting there without acknowledgement), she simply asked if we wanted anything to drink and we responded that we were ready to order. Our kale salad arrived about ten minutes later but our entrees took around 50 minutes to arrive. Our waitress never came back to our table until we had to flag her down for the check - all food was delivered by other staff (again with no apology for the excessive wait). Most restaurants would comp a meal if you had to wait almost an hour or, minimally, offer an apology! I cannot recommend this place. With many other great options in Bozeman, I'd suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Just passing through Bozeman for one night on a cross country trip between seeing Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. What a hip place! Right on the main road. I've become vegetarian-curious and their selections didn't disappoint. I had a scrumptious romaine salad with a secret dressing that was worth the price on its own, then a veggie ravioli with fava beans that was wonderful. They have meat and veggie options. The bartender who served me was very cool and very capable. Everybody there seemed genuinely happy to see me, which is a pleasant surprise during my three weeks on the road. Lol. This place serves $15 pizzas and acts like they're a black tie affair. Very unnecessarily scene-y. Hostess was rude, finally sat at a table and left there for 20 minutes before we walked out. Either be a pizza place and be casual and welcoming, or be a fancy restaurant and take service seriously. Can't speak to the food because it wasn't worth waiting for. Blackbird is my/my family's favorite. It were eating out in Bozeman- it's at blackbird. The food, the setting, the staff - all wins.

Service was prompt and friendly. The Blackbird Bread with Olive Oil would have been a great starter, but they failed to appropriately season the olive oil, and the wood fired bread was burnt black on the bottom. The Pasta Agnolotti was out of this world wonderful...All four bites of it. Really. Seriously. The sirloin was beautifully seasoned. Unfortunately, it was only a perfect medium temperature on the inside. The outside was crusted to a very crunchy well-done...All four bites of it. What was supposed to be an 8 oz. sirloin was cooked down to about 4 oz., and it was sliced into four very small medallions. European prices. Even smaller than European portions. Far less than European quality. I spent my down time (when I wasn't eating the food which I had hoped would fill my plate but didn't) fantasizing that the Blackbirds would swoop down and attack in a very Hitchcock-like fashion. In my fantasy, I would then grab a few of those avian delicacies, slap them on the grill, and have a real meal!!!! read more

It was difficult to get a reservation but it was definitely worth the wait. I ordered meatballs as an appetizer and they were excellent. I got the campanelle as the entree and it was perfect. I rarely get dessert but the plum streusel sounded too good to pass up. It was served with homemade vanilla gelato and it was every bit as good as it sounded. I'm back at Blackbird for the second time in two nights. The ambiance- romantic French industrial, is second only to the food. The menu is an epicurean treat to the senses but without the snobbery. The staff is professional but relaxed- it looks like everyone who works here- loves what they do. And why not? Easily the best eatery in Montana. The food was pretty good which is why I gave it any stars. The service was horrendous and actually ruined our experience. Our server was rude and the worst I have ever had. We almost just up and left. My mom asked if the drink she got was an Arnold Palmer like she ordered (because it looked and tasted just like lemonade) the server responded yes and my mom said it tasted just like lemonade. Servers response was "well what do you want me to do??". All the other tables got such better experiences including getting appetizer plates and asking if they want anything else. Server took our empty carafe and left. Didn't ask if we wanted anymore. This is really disappointing as we rarely go out to nice places but wanted to go out to celebrate life (mom has lung cancer). Limited menu, which turned me off at first to even trying it out because I wasn't sure if I was in the mood for pizza. However, I'm glad we went. The appetizer list was kind of strange. Cheese by itself ... salami by itself lol. So when asking our waitress for something that was a bit more robust we went with the burrata which was great and not a stand alone item. Horrible service. We waited over an hour and a half for food while tables that had come in after us were served and cashed out. The food was overly salty, the wait staff never apologized for the delay nor do they check in to refresh water or other drinks. This was the worst dining experience In years. If you are lucky you will get a reservation here as you stay in Bozeman . We started with lemony herbaceous Pate followed by a savory sweet pea custard with mint pesto. This was a mouthful of flavor that was extremely unique. They are extremely thoughtful with their combinations of tastes . The gremlins pasta was perfectly al dente with homemade rosemary sausage . We popped in here with a group of 3 on a busy Friday night and they got us right in - which I know is purely luck but we were definitely stoked about it. I'll preface this by saying we are easy guests. I know what I like and am willing to take a risk on menu items I'm unsure of. We got a bottle of wine, some ravioli and a pizza. The ravioli was unreal. The flavors just kept rolling out one grind of the teeth after another. I cannot fathom what kind of magic it requires to create flavors like that. By far the BEST place we ate during our Bozeman vacay. We arrived earlier than our reservation and they quickly cleaned a table to get us in a little early. The service was superb, I really wish I would have remembered our servers name (ate 1/3 8:15 reservation), she had excellent recommendations and was very attentive and friendly! We weren't familiar with most of the wine options, but her recommendations were perfect, the Pic St.Loup was fabulous. Ok, the food, started off with bread and olive oil and some pork belly. For mains I had the beef campanelle ragu, which was yummy. My husband had the Salaiccia pizza, and oh my, probably the best pizza I've ever had! Went to Blackbird on a Tuesday night thinking it would be slow but was I wrong. I would highly recommend that you make a reservation for a group bigger then two. We walked in with no reservation and got lucky that there was two seats in the back open. Food was amazing! It is very hard to find great Neapolitan pizza and this you could say was great! My wife and I are vacationing in Bozeman. We are trying a different restaurant every night. We typically ask our server where we ate last night where they would recommend for the next night. Tonight we went to blackbird kitchen at his suggestion. I had a Margherita pizza and my wife had the ravioli . Both were very fresh and tasted great. Our server was Essa, she was very nice and helpful. Her service was perfect. For desert we tried the expresso with vanilla ice cream. It was really good. This restaurant is more about flavor then heaping portions, and it's a bit on the pricy side, But it was really fresh food. Another good find in Bozeman. read more

Ahead of a trip to Bozeman, we made a res a couple months ahead of time based on a rave report from our friends, but what a disappointment. Recognizing the place has a high score, this could have been an off day, but their mistakes were bush league and avoidable. Luckily, this was not the only choice for tasty pizza in town: we found another option with friendly people and ended up having a great evening. It came down to two things: the people and the seating options, the former being the real problem. We entered the restaurant and waited near the host/ess' spot for around 6-7 minutes and were completely ignored. It became almost clinical as we watched a good number of staff walk by and avoid eye contact - not even a 'hello' or a smile (first impressions...). I finally asked a waitress if we were at the right spot to check in, and got an annoyed response that yes, it was the right place. When the hostess finally came over, it was like a smile would have been too much effort. When we asked about a table in the front (other choices were a bar where you'd face a wall (seriously), a bar looking into the kitchen (cool) and a set of tables in the back essentially in darkness), she said no because there were no two tops available. The front was ~40% empty. My spouse and I have both worked in restaurants, and were really surprised. She sat us in the back, in the darkness against a pole. We looked at each other and my husband said, "I don't want to eat food made by these people." We politely let them know we'd be leaving and went to find another option. We had a 8:45pm reservation, party of 2, on 9/19/19. The place was packed, we were seated right away. We ordered drinks, chicken liver pâté, and two pizzas (one would have been enough). The chicken liver was delicious and the toasted bread great. The pizza is simply superb! Having traveled throughout Italy last year and on a quest to find the best pizza in Naples, I believe there is no better pizza in Italy than what is served at Blackbird. We ordered the burrata margherita and the salsiccia. The crust is earthy with the right amount of chew. The sauce ratio is correct and the ingredients were just delicious. Relaxing atmosphere and incredible food! My wife and I were stopping through Bozeman on our way to Yellowstone National Park. Staff are friendly and accommodating. We ended up ordering the mushroom pizza, which also included delicious blue cheese. Depending on how hungry you are, we ended up splitting a salad and one pizza and it was plenty of food for us. I have been here twice in the last 2 weeks. I am 67 and consider myself a pretty serious gourmet. I have eaten in a number of Michelin starred restaurants and travelled to Italy over 20 times because I love the food. If this isn't the best restaurant I have ever eaten in, then it is tied for the best. The food is not only impeccable, but totally inspired. My wife and I tried 3 pasta dishes and the Salsiccia pizza. The pasta options completely changed in 2 weeks, unscoring the restaurants dedication to seasonal ingredients. The pizza was definitely the best I have ever eaten. Fantastic fennel sausage with carmeized onions and mozzarella that was so incredibly creamy. The depth of flavor was indescribable. We found the service to also be impeccable. Everything arrived exactly when we wanted it, and no need was ever overlooked. Food descriptions and advice were spot on. If 6 stars were an option, then Blackbird would get 6. My only regret is that I don't live in Bozeman so I can't come back whenever I want. read more

I don't think I can give Blackbird too much praise. Despite being difficult to get a reservation, I've found that it's possible for a couple of people to just show up and get a seat. If you're able to sit at the Chef's bar, you'll get an amazing show of the kitchen. The kitchen runs like a well oiled machine and the staff seem to enjoy themselves. The quality of food they pump out is amazing, with locally sourced ingredients, and while not what I'd call an inexpensive restaurant, it's considerably more value than other establishments on Main Street. read more
