Hmmm... the Blackbird Cafe. It has potential! I think this place is good if you want a grab and go breakfast option. Their menu is like a traditional breakfast place, but the ordering method is modern cafe. When you come in, you order at a kiosk!! It takes forever to scroll around and select things. It would've been faster/ easier to just give my order go the kid at the pickup counter. Once you put your order in, you grab a number and pick a table and they'll bring your food out to you. The cafe/ restaurant hybrid perhaps just isn't my vibe. It's confusing, they're bringing my food to me, but I think I'm supposed to bus my own table, they're not coming to check on me... but I need salt/pepper/refill and there's no counter to grab these things visible. Maybe I'm just inexperienced, I don't know. The "waitstaff" also seemed confused, like they did not know how to bring the food to and had to keep asking people if they ordered a dish or not until they hit the target. The food itself was good! My eggs were well-cooked and I liked the dill/ goat cheese option. The home fries were good but very salty. I loved the bread they served it with, and it would've been better with some jam but again... not sure where to get that. The bacon was good, and three pieces did cost $5. I loved my maple latte, it was very tasty!! Now I'm eating in, but it cost more to order it in a mug, so I settled for the small in a to go cup, which I thought was weird. A mug would've been nice with my breakfast plate, but alas. There's a parking lot in front, it's shared with a lot of other places in the strip mall. But it shouldn't be intimidating! Have had a burrito here multiple times and brought multiple different people who all think the place is wonderful. Definitely can be a bit pricey at times but I don't think it's too much of an issue. The smoothies are also great. Definitely a spot to check out if you haven't already. read more

I was excited to visit this place. I had breakfast. The pancakes looked well made but had a dry consistency. They also tasted like they were cooked on a griddle that fried up onions. This breakfast location is very clean, opened and comfortable. The food was good. There were no refills for coffee. You have several options for ordering. You can go to a kiosk, order at the counter, order on the app or the old-fashioned way...in person. The only really downside of this is, their price point. They seem to be pretty popular and being in Groton, which is more affluent than many areas. This may drive the cost up. They do have a large space and maybe the rent is excessive. I thought it was very unusual that a few use credit they charge you an extra 5%. This on top of their additional cost is certainly over the top. I guess the emphasis is for the guest to reduce the tip. Credit card fees should be incorporated into the price, not an additional amount. read more

Picked up our order to go, I ordered the chicken pesto panini sandwich and I wish I ordered a second one. The pesto sauce was very tasty and it was mixed in with the chicken instead of being spread on two slabs of bread. The chicken was shredded which I enjoyed. Very impersonal place. You order online which makes you tip prior to service or receiving food. Someone walks out drops the food on your table.. She did not ask us if we wanted anything else. My wife did not receive what she ordered it did not have cheese on it like it said in their description. The eggs appeared to be powder eggs with zero flavor then on top of that you have to clean up your own table..The music was so loud you couldn't have a conversation without raising your voice... Over $50 for 2 burritos 1 can of coke and 1 small bottles of orange juice..and when I asked for a glass with ice because the juice was warm, you would have thought I scratch her car with the look I recieved. Not the best experience. Very small portions for the price of $15.00 for a tiny sandwich. Pesto chicken panini is delicious but there is very little inside the sandwich. I think it was mostly pesto and melted cheese with a speck of a red pepper. And I didnt appreciate the 5% house fee. Not a good idea to nickle and dime the customer, just raise the price as its already so high it wont make a difference. We were leaving Concord and heading into Boston and needed a place to grab a bite, and based on the good Yelp reviews we stopped here, and had some very yummy food! I tried the chicken salad on a bagel and it was a huge portion of chicken salad. Very well made and was happy I had some leftover for later. I'll admit I still come back but only 3 times a year, if I could afford this I wouldn't be slamming them with a low rating. Stopped here this morning for breakfast. First, the person on staff was awesome. She was friendly and made a point to take care of customers. Second, the food was amazing. We had a breakfast wrap and the waffle, egg and sausage breakfast sandwich. The food was hot and flavors were amazing. I was very pleased by the food and staff here. Blackbird Cafe is located in a plaza off Rt 119 in Groton and is a hidden gem. You can order take out online or on a computer in the lobby. There is a small dining area if you wish to dine in. You order and pay through a QR code on your phone. There were clear instructions on the door and wall how to order as there are not staff stationed out front. My husband had the Ranchero Breakfast Sandwich and a drip coffee. My daughter had a chocolate chip pancake and a hibiscus ice tea. I had a spinach and feta omelet and a hibiscus ice tea. It was a little pricy, but worth it. The food was flavorful and fresh. The staff were prompt and friendly. The cafe had a cute atmosphere. We are excited to now have a place to stop for breakfast on the way through Groton. read more

I like to support small local businesses, however, I visited yesterday to pick up the "Johnny Cash" wrap at a price tag of $15.47 including taxes. It was not a good sandwich. There were about 3 small pieces of chicken and the rest was a mushy mess, with so much mayo and chipotle sauce, it was barely edible. I don't mind spending for good quality, but they missed on this one. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be going back. Too expensive, very disappointing. read more

This cafe is small with a cute vibe. When you walk in, there is a section to pick up take out orders. To the left there are tables for you to sit down and order. You order online, no menu or waiter. Once you order, someone delivers it to the table. We both ordered build your own breakfast sandwiches. Everything was good. My egg was supposed to be runny, but was overcooked. It was still good. Mine was on toast and the other was on a bagel. We enjoyed both, so choose based on how hungry you are. We also got the corned beef hash which was okay. I am leaving this 4 star review, as the food is generally good; however my comment is based on my experience today. ***** I tried to make an online order for pickup. The app was not working so I tried to place my order over the phone. The woman I spoke with told me that it was not possible to place a phone order. This did not make sense to me...they would prefer to reject my business versus taking an order by phone? Besides this, what would an elderly person do, for example, if they did not have access to a computer? As an advocate for the geriatric population, this is quite concerning to me. They are only taking to go orders in July 2021. I get it, health policy, but these days with vaccines and masks, I wish we could have eaten there. They screwed up our to go order. We ordered a Johnny Cash wrap that came as a salad/bowl (not what we ordered) but the hipster salad was great! I added chicken and cheese to it, and said no carrots, but it came with carrots. Oh well. The receipt had all the right information but the order did not come as expected. Also got the kogi bbq bowl, husband loved it. I should have ordered that, but I was happy with the hipster salad. My son got screwed with the error. He did not like the salad they gave him. Ordered takeout for the first time recently. It was a bit pricey for breakfast (two mains, a side of potatoes to share, and a small chocolate chai latte came to about $50 w/ tip). The potatoes were delicious and the chipotle sauce added the perfect amount of kick. My partner enjoyed his breakfast bowl, and I liked my French toast sandwich but maybe not to the extent of justifying the cost. The employees seemed to be sort of put off as well. No hello, how can I help you, not even a thank you. Don't get me wrong, we're not expecting smiles and rose petals but any level of personable interaction would have been nice. I can't exactly blame them though for the current state of the world, either. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The food is tasty; but pricey. The staff wasn't exactly friendly, which is unfortunate. I'd prefer to give 3.5 stars instead of just three, to be fair. We may go back some time. It's not on my "nope" list by any means. read more

I hadn't been to the Blackbird in over a year, and was not thrilled with the new location. Okay, I'm not computer illiterate, but the on-line ordering was a challenge. Actually, it was annoying. There is terrible phone service, so I kept getting error messages when trying to order. Finally, a wait person came over and said, "Oh, you need to connect to WIFI if you are having problems." Ok - so what's the password? He rattled off a long, complex password. That did make it better. I still would have preferred to place our order with a real live person! Having said that, once our food did arrive, it was pretty good. I had western omelette that was very good. The breakfast potatoes that cam with it were not so good. They were black, not burned, just black. I think this happens when peeled potatoes are not cooked right away. Kind of like a peeled apple turning brown. My husband couldn't eat any of his potatoes, but his spinach and feta omelette was very good. I guess I'll give them another try, but not any time soon. UPDATE: I returned to Blackbird for lunch with a friend. The food was very good. I hade the Johnny Cash wrap and would order it again. However, I just can't up the number of starts because of the impersonal nature of the place. Never saw a server until our food was delivered. The, when we needed to-go boxes, we had to go looking for someone to help us. My phone connected automatically to wifi, so I did not have any problems ordering. What a terrible experience. I'm very hesitant to even post a review based on the replies from the owners. Talk about flippant and truly unconcerned with the issues at their establishments. How can you actually expect the staff to have any accountability for the subpar food or rude service. What makes the store so special to the customers besides a big hassle to figure out what to do? The ordering system is horrendous and cumbersome. I'm puzzled how anyone thought this was a customer service friendly concept. It's not in anyway. My poor Mom has no cell by her choice and was very upset and mad she couldn't have a menu in her hand, like every other restaurant on the planet. Special to us? What is this fantasyland? You have a business with zero customer friendly features and lackluster, unfriendly employees. Seems to be a terrible business model. Lower your prices perhaps if the experience if you offer has zero customer comforts including waitstaff. Seems like a strange idea sometimes came up with and blindly decided it was brilliant. It isn't and I will never return. I've eaten all over the world and this was the most sterile and cold restaurant yet. Not even being greeted by a human. Please tell your staff a little kindness and courtesy goes a long way, always. Lead by example perhaps.. Just another example of how customer service has gone amuck. Oh and they don't take CASH. Love the Blackbird Cafe! I have eaten here and taken friends here probably 10 times since discovering it less than a year ago. We have liked everything we have tried. My favorite is the chicken salad on rosemary bread (the Tuscan bread is also delicious!) The only thing is that it really quickly gets pricey. For example, If the sandwich you get doesn't have onions or tomato, etc, it's 50 cents each. But, it's all fresh and delicious, so worth it to me- just be aware. It looked like there was around 2 ounces of tuna on the one and 2 paper thin slices of ham on the other. Younger employees continue to be an issue. They cannot make a latte, and I guess they were not trained properly. The other day I saw the usual improper steaming technique (can't remember the last time I got actual microfoam), and the usual over cooking of the temp (no thermometer, burned milk....again), but to my horror they didn't clean the steam wand. It was gross, and I'm not even sure they purged after. To make matters worse, I asked what beans they were using for decaf and they said "a Kirkland blend". Yes, as in costo brand name coffee. I do still like the northender and few other food items. It's just gone downhill. It feels a lot like they are focusing on the new location. Decent cafe, prices are a little high, you will pay $15 for a breakfast or breakfast sandwich without a coffee which for me is more of a dinner price. Everything is per each priced probably because it is more of a come in and go place with stuff pre made ready to go. I got an eggs Benedict with a huge amount of lettuce on it and some sort of balsamic glaze.. I can't remember the exact name. My daughter got a pancake with blueberries and my wife a breakfast sandwich which she didn't like . The pancakes were good but no option for real maple syrup.
