Feels like a Hotel restaurant inside an Airport. Which aside from the Hotel aspect...it is. Small local Airport venue, clean spartan brushed-stainless elevator ride to the third floor dining destination... Sunday Morning Brunch time, this place is surprisingly popping. We have to wait in line, like it is an IHop. But the display case ahead of you shows you what your diet prohibits, proudly on display. decadent pastries drenched in dripping chocolate, others with white chocolate chips (possibly macadamia nuts imbedded in a white frosting on what would be an otherwise sensible breakfast pastry. The menu, continuing to serve breakfast through the lunchtime period, offers Benedicts (my favorite) and multiple variations at that. Migas (rare, and my usual testing ground for new places), Steak and eggs, Shakshuka, yeah, what ever it was you were thinking you wanted for your first meal of the day, they have exactly that or some variation of it. And whatever variant Black Walnut comes up with to land on the official menu. . . is worth it. Super original selection of "sharables", what the rest of the world is decreasingly calling appetizers. This is not our first time by far and away to try out the starters choices at Black Walnut. They are all worth the price of admission. Globally inspired Entrées: Vegetarian mains, foreign country flavored options Asian Glazed Salmon, Mediterranean Chicken, even Chicken-Fried Steak from the great country of Texas. Burgers of many kinds, Multiple Taco styles, still including a Veg option! Soups, Salad, Pasta and a Summertime limited menu. My wife picks the Summertime Peri Peri Chicken. The Hotel style carpet makes it quieter than you would expect for the number of people in the place, Solid Walls of glass, floor to ceiling, viewing the runway strip and the balcony seating area. Benches and Tables through out, umbrella tables on the veranda, small party room with a flatscreen and still more glass overlooking the runway. Exposed Central Kitchen area, staff dressing your plates with the final touches, filling drink orders and packing up the to-go orders. The patio is lovely. Is lovely a workable word in this scenario? It's more cool than beautiful. You still get a view of the planes landing and taking off, jets taxiing in and parking to unload. You can actually see inside the front of a couple of the hangars where the really neat planes are. Phillipe and multiple staff check on our meager table-for-two making sure everything is up to snuff. FOOD: I should mention: Prices are reasonable, but this is restaurant pricing, not Denny's. We get out for $41 including %18, but that is with waters to drink...which is kind of a shame, because they have to unique teas and drinks to choose from. Migas; I am originally not impressed with the presentation. The dish looks small, brown, and light on effort. There is a pop of bright green from the sliced avocado with a small sprig of something herbal and green (that I appreciate). It looks as if the small scoop of Chorizo is riding atop a mound of long rectangle fried tortilla strips; and I am thinking, this is just a mountain of chips...now don't be confused like I am from the pics of this dish. Underneath a single layer of chips is a mountain of eggs. Problem is they are exactly the same color as the chips and I think "this is just a soggy mash of chips". Quickly after a bite, I realize, this is a mountain of eggs. Well seasoned I might add, and not too few either, I am guessing 3 eggs, which although looks unimpressive: paired with a fistful of tortilla strips and a ladle of chorizo, is a LOT of food. Strike the mention of "small". Chef needs to envision a way to make the layers stand out, maybe a more deconstructed method, but, that's not my job...I'm just the reporter. The Peri Peri Chicken, however, arrives like a parade float in the Luanda Carnival. This thing is gorgeous. You had better appreciate chili peppers as an outright food or you miss out on 1/3 of the dish. Pile-o-rice that has some bits of meaty goodness mixed in with some herbal highlights (yes carbs, but I had to try it for the review) really good grains, I could munch on that all day! Mound of Braised Chicken, center-stage, smothered in Peri Peri sauce with a side of it in a cup, as well. Bring it! This dish kicks! Just spicy enough to keep the fans interested, and original in flavor enough that it is different than the Nando's Peri Peri I am used to, with some indiscernible tropical citrus behind the notes. Headed to black walnut cafe at the Conroe airport on a Monday during summer to take advantage of kids eat free and watch some planes and man was I surprised. The restaurant is on the third floor of the building and is a light and bright restaurant. You can order at the counter or take a seat at a table and order from scanning the QR code. We ordered at the counter and took a seat by the large windows to watch the planes. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken Benedict and the chicken had spice but not too spicy for my high spice standards and had really good flavor. Star of the show was the hollandaise sauce but unfortunately poached egg yolk was cooked through but lots of hollandaise made up for that. My sister ordered the lobster Benedict - wow- the lobster tasted like it was braised in butter and her yolk was runny on the poached eggs so perfect dish! Kids meals we got were the hamburger and penne pasta and both were great size portions. Usually I worry with kids eat free they're tiny meals but definitely filled our ravenous boys up. We finally decided to stop in after seeing several posts about the kids-eat-free promotion. Just a quick note for anyone interested: the offer is one free kids' meal with the purchase of an adult entrée. The restaurant itself is situated on the third floor and offers a really nice view overlooking the runway and hangars. My kids absolutely loved watching the planes while they ate, and honestly, the view was one of the highlights of our visit. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the setting this time around. The kids ordered the cheesy penne pasta, but it wasn't their favorite. Some of the pasta pieces were a bit hard, and because the dish wasn't served very warm, the sauce had become thicker and stiffer than we would have preferred. I ordered the steak frites and requested my steak medium, but it arrived well done. Under different circumstances, I probably would have asked for it to be remade. However, the wait for our food had already been fairly lengthy, so I decided to keep it as is. What truly stood out during our visit was our server, Sophia. She was attentive, kind, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. More importantly, she maintained such a positive attitude that she kept smiles on our faces despite some of the issues with the food. Great service can make a big difference, and Sophia definitely deserves recognition for that. Overall, while the food wasn't quite what we had hoped for on this visit, the unique views and excellent service made for a pleasant enough experience. My wife and I visited Black Walnut Café last Sunday, and once again, we were pleasantly surprised by what a great experience we had! Steph was incredibly attentive, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The food was terrific, as always. Honestly, every bite feels like a new experience, even though we order the same things almost every time we visit! Their rewards program is outstanding, the staff is always smiling and friendly, and the coffee just keeps coming -- and it's delicious! I only have one small complaint: they've been out of Coke Zero for two weeks in a row. That was a little disappointing, especially for such a well-renowned restaurant. Hopefully, they'll get that corrected soon! But honestly, the ambiance makes up for it. Sitting outside on the patio, watching the planes take off and come in at the nearby airport, enjoying great food and being surrounded by such a friendly staff -- it all makes Black Walnut Café a place we love coming back to. Amazing view while eating you have the option to eat inside or outside in a 2nd deck patio while watching airplanes take off. Would recommend if you're in the area. My wife heard about Black Walnut Café and wanted to try it out for breakfast one Sunday morning. We have always found that any café that is located at an airport is always a great place to eat and Black Walnut was no exception although a bit different from what we are used to. After waiting in line to get in, we were served cafeteria style and this I was not expecting. It worked and was different. Just not used to this at an airport café. In any case, I tried out the chicken and waffles; a Belgium waffle with some really good chicken tenders to go with my Bloody Mary. My wife went with the ham and cheese omelet with her Bloody Mary. I really enjoyed my chicken and waffles. They chicken was crisp and flavorful and both my wife and I enjoyed our meals and Bloody Maries. Overall, a really good meal served by the window so we could watch the airplanes take off and land. I look forward to returning to the Black Walnut Café. read more

Ambiance: Cafe with breakfast, brunch, and regular menu items located at the Conroe Regional Airport. Clean, fast, & friendly service! This location is really neat because you can watch the airplanes land/take off and view all of the smaller aircrafts or helicopters. Highly recommend for families, kids, friend groups, or a unique brunch date. I love the avocado toast. My husband says the chicken fried steak is one of the best he's ever had. Right in the midst of Conroe Regional Airport, this is a great place to eat and watch the arrival and departures of local air traffic. There isn't a bad seat in the house, but if you want to be at the window, grab a table when it's open and have someone else place your order in the line. Service is good with the kitchen following up with questions about dietary needs. The food is the same Black Walnut menu we all know and love but for some reason our orders were all over cooked. Wow! First, I would like to say I was pleasantly surprised. Driving into an airport for breakfast was a bit off putting, once I got to the 3rd floor, wow! The classic Pan Am posters, light music, and distant chattering of voices and plates clinging really made it a great atmosphere! Not to mention the view of the trees and planes flying. The service is great as well, thank you Brianna for tending to me and my date. Everyone had a smile and was happy to help us for our first time. And of course, the food was great. The potatoes were crispy, aromatic and fresh. The chicken sausage was juicy and had a snap. Pancakes were also fluffy and blueberries on top had a fresh snap as well. It has to be Conroe's most unique hidden gem such a vibey relaxing atmosphere even tho it's at a airport lol. Review time Lobster Benedict: 9.6/10 huge chunks of lobster meat and hollandaise sauce was absolutely spot on even with that they still put some smoked applewood bacon on it. read more

Second time here and the food was delicious again. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and it was very thin. Very little chicken, more breading than meat. Ambience was nice- place was packed, but as soon as a table left, staff was immediately clearing it for the next customer. Well staffed and keeping up with the rush was nice. I've only been here once but I enjoyed the food and ambiance. I had the fish plate. It was wonderful. The batter was light and crispy and the cod was cooked to perfection. My friend had the Wednesday special, turkey, avocado, bacon sandwich which I tasted. Now I have to go back just to have it. The portions are generous. You order at the bar/counter and they give you a buzzer but they brought the food to us. It was a little under $20.00 for lunch. I don't know if it's the same menu for dinner. We returned to Conroe today and decided to make a second trip over to this restaurant. The manager reached out to let me know they would make the duplicate charge right and offered us lunch to show us how awesome their team really is. We tried a couple new dishes and loved them! As always their food was superb and Aurelia (sorry for spelling) went above & beyond to make our lunch special. The restaurant is next to Galaxy FOB at the airport and our table next to the window to watch constant airplane traffic coming and going. My grandson was mesmerized and Gives their cheese pasta two thumbs up!! The Black Walnut has fantastic food & their service is excellent making this a very special experience. I have the chorizo Amigas and they were good. My husband had a croissant breakfast sandwich. They only had blueberry jelly you have to order at the register or order with the QR code online. Our server brought waters and our food out and it was warm. We got there at 8 AM on a Sunday morning. At 8:30 AM the whole slew of kids in the restaurant started filling up. Kids were screaming inside and outside the restaurant. It was a zoo. The server said that's customary for a Saturday and Sunday morning. It was really fun watching the airplanes takeoff!! the coffee station is for you to fix your own coffee and sodas. If you're looking for a great sunny place to get brunch with your girlfriends this is definitely the place! I had a very pleasant experience at Black Walnut Cafe with my friends. We all came in around 10:30 am on Monday. It didn't get busier until around 11:30- 12:00. The whole wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. We even had the manager Sana come check on us and she was a delight. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best that morning when we first arrived so we chose to sit inside but I guarantee the next time I come I'll be on the patio. I can only imagine the view from outside. The view inside was beautiful and watching some of the smaller planes flying was pretty cool. It's worth a try if you haven't been. read more

We stopped here to celebrate my daughter's first flying lesson. The food was excellent on my daughter's end. On my end, the meat on my tacos was a bit on the salty side. Overall service and food were good. I especially liked my interaction with the young man cleaning tables. He did not speak English, at all. However, he went along trying his best to answer whatever questions anyone had for him. High praise for the person who hired him and gave him an opportunity for employment. It speaks volumes.
