Water and the bus table in front of our seating.
Mackenzie A.

Stopped here totally by chance because where we wanted to go changed their policy on the items we wanted to try. My husband ordered the sauerbraten platter and I ordered the pierogi bratwurst appetizer. Both were fantastic! We were lucky enough to sit outside on a beautiful day , and there were bees and bugs galore. We are in our home, not the other way around! My only removal of a star had to do with the server of another table using the bus table to set down plates and the smell of mulch / bees in our food. Would definitely come back again all things considered!

I booked my son's wedding rehearsal lunch with 29 guests. When we arrived I said the Reed party and was shown to the back room that was not our party. I came back to the host stand where I find out later was the general manager. He said that's your area over there not asking if I need anything at all or if this is all good. We all are swamped into a session that clearly was was too small to accommodate a party of this size. However if the manager was paying attention at all or the server. They would have tried to add a table on instead of some gift table set up that again if asked should know noone needs that . Because it's a wedding rehearsal lunch. Hence no gift table needed. As we squeeze into our seats that literally were back to back and smashing against the wall , the I guess server who never introduced his self . I thought he was just doing the waters. He brought out 1 on each table of 9/10 people a small plate of wet mozzarella and a larger salad but on one side of the table only and definitely not enough of that many guests. Then we were brought out a pizza thing that is the size that 2 people would have as an appetizer. We grew people were expected to somehow share then that was in for like 20 minutes . So everyone had bird sized portions that they were nervous to eat too much. So me the host mother of the groom completely embarrassed. I walk to the host stand to explain , not knowing at this point my so who manages for years knowing this is unacceptable. Spoke to the GM and said this is crazy we need food on each side of the table . I also said we have literally no food some guests choose not to grab anyfood so there wife's can have it. I brought this information mode you I can see the manager for my seat. So you should know and care about your guests and check on your party and introduce yourself to us . I was told by his after mentioning we have no food . That ready for it??? We should have asked for more!!! Um what? No you should bring out enough for all the party. Finally a waitress named Kyrsten . Saw the Chaos that was happening and she literally stepped up and turned the entire experience around. Not the "GM" the waitress who was not ours. However made us here number 1 priority. Because of here and only her , she made us feel like no longer had to worry or serve my guests and I was able to enjoy the experience with my family. Literally at point did he come into the room and try to make sure my guests were ok or apologize to them. This did not have to happen if in first place he acknowledged our party, and our guests. The food was very good and Kyrsten was hands down the best part of this experience. This is a day that I can't redo . It's my first borns wedding rehearsal. We were ignoring and that's not how you treat guests.

It was a gorgeous day to sit outside on the large deck and enjoy live music by Dante Max. Even though it was super busy, the wait staff was attentive and accommodating. https://www.instagram.com/dantemaxmusic?igsh=MTE4YW9sdzRwc2k5MQ== I ordered the fall special burger w/ grilled onions, bacon, cheese and thin apple slices. It was served w/ homemade chips. Hubby ordered the gumbo then got the sirloin burger and onion rings. My daughter got the grilled chicken / honey mustard wrap. She opted for fries and instead of the salad and we all shared our sides. We were to full to order desert, but will go back and sit outside to enjoy it all again.

I've been living in this area for 5 years now finally got to try this restaurant on Sunday and I was a bit disappointed by the service and food quality. We came in around 730ish and we had asked our waitress if there was a menu for the smoked meats since this was advertised on one of the signs, she had no idea what we were talking about. My husband ordered the steak off the Cinco de Mayo menu and it was supposed to come with Spanish rice. He got a heaping mountain of mashed potatoes and asparagus that tasted like it was 3 days old. The chimmichurri also had this weird grayish color. The food did not taste fresh at all. We told our waitress and she couldn't care less. The other person in our party ordered the pizza which he said was good just the dough could've been cooked more. I ordered the street corn off the small plates menu and it was good.

Came with a group friends 8 people and we were seated immediately. This place is large with in and outdoor seating. Very all-American type bar and restaurant style. Our server Alfredo was awesome event though he seemed very busy. He got all of our orders right and he was nice. It got crowded so he was all over the place towards the end, but still good service. The pork chop and steak with the blue cheese crumble was excellent. No complaints about the ribs either. The desserts were also good and a great take home treat. Overall a good time was had.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for a family dinner, and the place was pretty busy as they were having a wedding! It was a very nice place right next to the river, but it did smell from time to time which wasn't great. We got their salad pizza and the nachos for appetizers. The pizza was okay, it would've been better if they had drizzled some olive oil or maybe balsamic over it. The nachos weren't really good, the chips weren't crunchy and the cheese was hard. For drinks I ordered a cosmo which was average, and my boyfriend ordered a strawberry refresher which unfortunately tasted like a white claw that had been left out in the heat. I got their Asian Rice Bowl - the shrimp was good, the vegetables weren't very savory and tasted overall bland, the brown rice was overcooked and reminded me of the ShopRite instant brown rice, which is not what you want to get at a restaurant. My boyfriend ordered a burger which was a pretty mid-rate dinner-like burger so not great. Overall, everything was very overpriced for the quality of the food.

Seafood jambalaya

This review is for takeout orders only. We've ordered from Black River Barn multiple times. The burgers are excellent. Ordered the Cajun chicken Alfredo and seafood jambalaya this time. The food was flavorful as always. Both dishes were beautifully seasoned but could've used a bit more of a kick. The restaurant has a large parking which is always packed. One of these days, we'll have to do a sit-down dinner at Black River Barn.

Delish wings!

We enjoy going here during football season as it's very lively in the bar & the have good football specials. Other times we come we either sit in the bar out outside. Recently we sat outside & our waitress Laura was wonderful. We enjoyed our food - clams, meatball app, & cheeseburger. The wings are also a favorite of mine & we enjoy the pizza as well. They are very accommodating & will make changes to your meal no problem. Owner is always present & works very hard doing whatever is needed to ensure everyone is satisfied- definitely recommend!

Asian Stir Fry

This restaurant had no wait when we came on a Friday night. The menu had plenty to choose from, and I opted for the Asian Stir Fry Bowl. The meal came out within 10 minutes and it was very good. Our waitress is very friendly and they were plenty of options for my four-year-old daughter. Great place!

This time we were here with a small dog. It's a dog friendly restaurant! Service was good, better than last time we were here. We assumed it was because this time was dinner and last time was lunch. Different groups of people. All were good, food was delicious as well. The only thing was that the table we sat was outside and it was so dirty. We cleaned it ourselves.

Pumpkin ravioli
Keith S.

I can't complain about the flavors, but for the pumpkin ravioli, the pumpkin was overpowered by the Gorgonzola cream sauce. They forgot my barn salad. Service was fast and friendly but not spot on for lunch on Saturday. The place looked like the inside of a barn but was decorated nicely and clean.

We have eaten at the Barn many, many times and the food is always great. They have a huge selection so there's always something for everyone. Recently we held my Mom's 80th birthday here in the River Room and our celebration was a huge success! Andrew and Tim were fantastic to work with during the planning process and definitely came through. The room was perfection (and it had a lake view which was a bonus!!!) and the food was amazing. Everyone kept complimenting the venue and the food the whole time. It was a wonderful, memorable event and I would not hesitate to have another celebration here again!!

I've been coming to the Barn for YEARS and it's about time I gathered my photos and share a review! The food here is consistently filling and delicious! If you havent been.. you're SERIOUSLY missing out. My absolute favorite dish is the Grandma's Pasta Bowl with ricotta, pesto and marinara. It's so hearty that I always have leftovers for days!! Their seasonal specials and cocktails are fantastic and always change so I can always try something different with each visit. I can't say enough about the staff, they're always so friendly and welcoming like you're a part of the Barn family.

it's fine to go and have a drink, but please never eat here. This place is so bad that they even screw up the french fries.

Pub 199 - 2 Dozen Clams and Lobster tails

Pub 199

Stopped in for lunch at Pub 199 and once again had a great meal…read more Started with a bowl of lobster bisque, followed by a porterhouse steak cooked medium rare that we split. The meal came with a baked potato, steamed vegetables, and two dozen steamed clams, all washed down with a cold bottle of Briar's root beer. Pub 199 feels like walking into a natural history museum inside a hunting lodge, surrounded by taxidermy and rustic decor. The service is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the prices remain very reasonable. If you enjoy classic New Jersey spots with character and reliable food, this is one worth visiting. If you've been here, feel free to share your experience or leave a review.

Missed getting reservation today at a place we never been to so we resorted back to what we loved…read more I figure since everyone was recommending steakhouses with outrageous prices when we knew Pub 199 had the best steaks and they don't need to break the bank. Tonight I ordered the 2 doz calms (always a must) and the steak and lobster tail. It was AMAZING as always. My normal order is the whole lobster but now that they offer 2 tails I always will get that. I'm excited to try the lobster bisque which I didn't try tonight. My only complaint tonight is the waitress came over with a dish of fries for my husband who ordered the baked potato (omg so good also order the baked potato) and apologized for selling out of the potatoes. 5 Minutes later we see the table next to us get their baked potato's with their dishes. My husband was so mad. Don't lie to people when we love your food. Fries could be better. (We left them). And their vegetables are always soggy and not worth eating. Back to the positive the seafood and steaks are always worth looking over the sides. Not the baked potato, keep doing what you're doing with them. Except stop lying to the customers.

Outstanding dinner at PH Steakhouse with a phenomenal server…read more Had an amazing dinner at PH Steakhouse in Chester, and a huge part of what made the night so great was our server, Sterling. He was friendly, on point with timing, and knew the menu and cocktail list inside and out, so much so that it's worth specifically requesting Sterling when you make a reservation or when you're seated. He even recommended my (and his) favorite specialty cocktail, which ended up being the perfect drink to go with the meal. I ordered the Delmonico King Cut steak and it came out a perfect medium rare--flavorful, tender, and cooked exactly as requested. My wife's parmesan‑crusted chicken was also fantastic, with great seasoning and a really nice crisp on the outside. The specialty cocktails were fun and inventive, which fits perfectly with their strong craft cocktail program and full bar. If you can, definitely request to sit in the "Chester Room"; it's a very cozy and quaint dining area, and the fireplace during these chilly winter months makes it feel extra warm and inviting. Between the perfectly cooked steak, my wife's excellent chicken, the creative cocktails, the cozy Chester Room, and especially the top‑tier service from our server, this was an easy 5‑star experience.

Do not waste your time going here ~ be warned…read more We went for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:00 pm. It was not crowded, almost empty. In the dining room, where we were seated, there was our table of two, another table of two and a table of three. The other two tables were at the end of their meals. Our server, who also greeted us at the door, was more interested in looking at his smart phone than seating us. He gave us the dinner menus, instead of lunch menus which was a sign of things to come. It was almost 1/2 hour before the server returned to take our order. At this point the two other tables of patrons were gone. We ordered a Wedge salad and French onion soup for starters. The Wedge salad was perfect, except for the large piece of Italian bread served with it which was charred, but edible out of desperation. The onion soup was TASTELESS and the cheese on the top of it was BURNT, blackened to the extent there was no mistaking whoever prepared it was not paying attention when they made it and had no problem sending it out to be served burnt. Against my better judgment, and further desperation, I ate the tasteless, burnt soup. For the main course, we had a turkey club and mussels Fra Diavolo. The "fra diavolo" sauce had no kick to it at all. They might as well have called the dish mussels in marinara sauce. The turkey club, which was ordered with no mayonnaise, had almost NO turkey on it ~ no exaggeration ~ there was only one thin slice of turkey on it! I should have sent it back immediately, but I took my first bite and then signaled for the iPhone obsessed server. I asked him for the manager and he panicked as if he did something wrong. I assured him the problem was with the food, although I should have reported him for his inability to put his iPhone down and do his job. The manager came to our table asking how she could help and I showed her the sandwich pointing to the lack of turkey. She agreed that the club sandwich was very much in need of its main ingredient -- turkey. She apologized and took my plate and said she would order me another. About 20 minutes later, our iPhone loving server returned with a new turkey club with the appropriate amount of turkey on it. We were offered no compensation for the first embarrassed turkey club which was almost sans turkey, not that we were looking for some type of compensation, but any type of gesture would have been nice. It has been years since we last ate at the Public House since moving from the area, but this will definitely be our last visit. I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone, even if the food were free. Be forewarned...you would have a more satisfying meal from a fast food restaurant!
