Came here for a rehearsal lunch. They were able to accommodate us a little early. Food was delicious - lemon chicken, penne vodka, cheese bread, salad. We had a separate room that was really nice. I didn't get to explore the actual restaurant outside the room and bathrooms. The bathrooms were not great, one of the stalls wouldn't flush at all, one sink would spray water everywhere. Huge restaurant with tons of outdoor seating on the lake. Cold draft beers and good mixed drinks. The dumplings and chicken tacos were pretty good. The wings were big but very dry. The menu is huge so I would definitely go back to try other foods. read more

Do not order the lobster roll!! It is lobster salad, there are no large chunks of meat. Our waitress was efficient and wonderful, but she was very surprised when I showed her a pictured of what a real lobster roll should look like. Went here with my father a week or so ago. Great decision as I haven't been here in years. Food: my father got a chicken parm which looked exquisite and I got a grilled chicken Texas bbq sandwich which hit the spot. Sauce wasn't sweet which was nice and a good mix between the chicken, bacon, mozz, and sauce. We finished off with a delicious bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream which was to die for. Aesthetic: really great place, lots of space, and outdoor dining is beautiful with the Black River Pond next to it. The outdoor dining setup at Black River Barn is perfection! There is an ample amount of well-spaced out seating. Lots of tables overlook the water, and the views are absolutely stunning. They don't accept reservations, but once you arrive and put your name down they'll put you on a virtual waitlist that you can watch on your phone. We were told that the wait would be around half hour, but it ended up being closer to 15 minutes which was nice. Service was wonderful. We had already sat down and ordered, but when I saw a table open up on the water they allowed us to move which was much appreciated! The menu is absolutely enormous. It's like the size of a small book. In addition to standard bar fare they also have a variety of meat, pasta and fish entrees. There was also lots of seasonal fall specials like bratwurst and butternut squash risotto. Hubs and I split grilled chicken nachos and boneless wings, which are on the menu as 'chicken chips'. Both came with a super generous portion. The nachos could have used a little more cheese and flavor -- the chicken was pretty bland. The pieces of tomato also didn't seem super fresh. The wings were super saucy and flavorful with just a little bit of heat. Regardless of what you order, you really can't go wrong with the beautiful views. I had the kale quinoa vegetarian burger ... an aioli sauce e would have helped and perhaps something to make the party a bit least soggy... I only had ketchup or mustard and the ketchup had high-fructose corn syrup in it... I came to this spot with a coworker to get lunch. When we arrived we parked in the private parking lot. We walked in and a nice man sat us outside. The spot is a bar and grill and is pretty big and the outside had a nice view of the water. We were served by Holly and she was cool. For my meal I got the beyond burger and when it came out it had, what it looked like cheese on it. We tried to ask the chef or who we thought was the chef and he kind of seemed irritated to answer. It wasn't cheese so I indulged. The sandwich was ok. The bread was kind of hard though. The sweet potato fries were good. My coworker said his food was good. Honestly a really demeaning experience. Used to live in this area and came back to visit family. Service staff told me that I couldn't order drinks because my ID was out of state. They didn't have any sort of scanner, never mind the fact that my brother and I have the SAME LAST NAME on our IDs. Server was kind about the issue, but as a restaurant policy this is unacceptable policy. Do no out of state customers get drinks here? And then I was told I could order if I had a passport? Had a great early dinner at The Barn this Saturday. A beautiful day and a table overlooking the lake made the setting perfect! Calamari appetizer was very good. For entrees, I went with the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the chicken avocado salad. The meals were both excellent. Prices reasonable and a fun atmosphere! We've dined at The Barn a few times and have always had a nice time. In the summer, we sat outside for a really good lunch, then followed it up in the fall with drinks and appetizers at the bar. I have been to the Barn several times. It's not far from my job, so we've gone to dinner after work and it has always been good. Tonight, I took my co-worker to dinner for her birthday and we ordered clams and a seafood dish. It was amazing until we got to the end of the clams. I had a few left and chose to pry open the clam that hadn't opened during cooking. Well, it was full of sand. It was funny and even though the dish was gritty, it tasted good anyway, sand and all. I grew up at the shore and have eaten many a sandy sandwich at the beach. Not a big deal.... However... I didn't complain exactly, but I told the waitress about my sandy clam. She said they would take it off the bill. I agreed...and thought that was right. I mean...it was a $14 appetizer and one of the clams was FULL of sand. Even though it was still edible and still tasted really good (albeit gritty)...it really wasn't perfect OR something someone should have to pay for. When she returned with the bill, they took 10% off...$3.90 cents. I was told it was because we ate it anyway. Umm...yeah...sand doesn't scare me...but there shouldn't have been a $14 dish with a sandy clam in it (unless that was listed as one of the ingredients). Sand was NOT on the menu. Plus...I opened the unopened clam at the end of the dish...not at the beginning. Plus...there was a literal PILE of sand in my food. Not the waitress's fault, of course. Again...I'm not afraid of sand and didn't flinch over it. BUT...they DEFINITELY should have taken it off the bill. The other dish we had was delicious...and so were the sandy clams.... So these guys are getting 3/5 stars. Got 3 stars because of the potential and missed 2 stars for being too cheap to treat customers well. read more

We always experience friendly service from Wilmer, our favorite waiter. The food is reliably good. We enjoy their pizza and their burgers. They offer huge TV's with lots of sports. I told them it was my birthday, and they comped us a large goblet of fresh fruit and a candle. They sang "Happy Birthday" to me and let me blow out the candle. We have been coming here for years with our handicapped son and always had considerate treatment. read more

For the fact that this place is always packed with crazy wait times, I was honestly expecting a lot more / a lot better. The food was just average and so was the service. We were still eating our appetizer when our entrees came which is never appreciated. I was also still picking at my fries and my burger at the end of the meal, and when I said "no" to a box my server picked up my plate and started to walk away with it. I feel like there should have been more clarification from him on if I was done or not before doing that. He also cleared my friend's plate as he was picking up the last bite of his dinner. Overall, it seemed like we were being rushed to eat and leave so that our server could turn over the table. The only positives were that the vibe of the place was good and the drinks were too. This place is amazing it's a warm and cozy place to come and eat for a cold day. Their butternut squash soup is amazing. The waiters and waitresses are on top on everything. There is one in Rockaway and Hfbera they are own by the same owner. Bring your appetite when you order anything with gravy just tell them not to flood it. Price is also good for this area. I was so excited to come here for the first time and it was a huge disappointment. The food was awful the chicken Parmesan was burnt all around the edges and dried up ..my fries were ice cold. Just a disaster food wise. My barbecue chicken sandwich was OK but nothing to write home about. The only great thing was our server Kelsey.. she was sweet as could be and the staff was friendly except for the woman we told about the dried up chicken just said "oh" and took it away. As my main, I order the Texas BBQ Chicken Melt. Reading from the menu, I expected the sandwich to be soggy and covered in grease from the chicken, bacon and cheese as I had experienced from other restaurants. However, when I bit into the first bite, the bread was perfectly toasted with the chicken and bacon dried from any grease. I was a bit disappointed that I could barely the BBQ sauce glazed on the chicken. I would also like to have a bit more melted cheese on the sandwich as I felt there was only a single slice of mozzarella on top. Tater tots were crunchy and fresh from the frier. We had about 100 guests outside under the tent and only two servers for drinks, it definitely seem like they could have used more help. I also thought it was kinda gross there was garbage in the seating area (a used band aid, sugar packets etc) all over the ground. The displays for the buffet were pretty but the food was subpar (awful chicken Marsala...served with paella rice, vodka sauce was not creamy eggplant was decent). They prepared cheese platter, fruit , green tossed salad , ziti, chicken fingers, roasted vegetables, eggplant rotini, chicken rice dish, roasted potatoes and beef, corn beef and Turkey sandwiches , bread and butter ... ice teas , soda , coffee hot tea and dessert tray bites . The place is nice but the tables are too close to each other. I went with my husband we ordered Pizza and the Voodoo Pasta. The pizza was little but undercook and the pasta sauce was very thick but the pasta even thicker it sticks together and hard to eat. The overall services were good.
