I've only been here one time and is was as the evening 's entertainment. I play some music with my Brothers and the place got packed quick. The outdoor seating was plentiful and the bar staff was quick and professional. For craft beers they have a large selection that changes daily and the food truck the exclusively services the bar sells amazing Mexican food to order. I couldn't drink too much as I was preforming but what I did have was very tasty. Oh and BTW. Love the name. read more

We're new to this place just since this year. Black Plague Brewing became our favorite place after two visits. We've been several times since, and are returning again this weekend. They have created covered outdoor seating so they can still offer their deliciousness to you! I have loved the different stouts I've tried. I can get the Medusa in cans to bring home! My husband is loving their Hazy IPAs, which apparently is hard to find right now! (so keep those hazy taps flowing, please, guys) Everyone we've encountered who works here is just really cool, and totally helpful - and they even remember us! It's always a good feeling. The whole vibe of this place is awesome. They have food!!! Full Metal Burger is there during the brewery's hours, outside! They're tasty. This is a huge brewery in Oceanside! Dog friendly. Lots of games like Cornhole. They have a stage set up in the center where they have bands perform everyday except for one, I believe they said Thursdays. & on Thursdays they host Trivia Night. Friendly bartenders. When we first arrived, we smelled the savory aroma coming from a food stand outside- Full Metal Burger. I do not know if they are stationed there every day but if not, I would make sure to visit the brewery when they are there because their burgers are delicious! They have a variety of flavors of their popular 1347 (West Coast Style IPA)- blood orange, blueberry, grapefruit, habanero, mango, pineapple. 1347- Peach: You can really taste the peach flavor which is very refreshing. Hoppy & delicious. Samoa Cookie (Milk Stout): A great name for this drink. Very creamy & you can taste the subtle coconut flavor. read more

It was about time we went in to check it out. I have only ever bought their beverages from stores and was a big fan. The service was great and we even played a game! The only con was there was no A/C. It wasn't too big of a deal but it made me grateful we didn't go during peak hours; otherwise we'd be leaving with pit sweat stains! Have you been to a place where death & dying and morbidness is the main theme? It's actually super cool. The facility itself is super big and cool looking. The theme is hella weird but it works... like Halloween err day every day...the bathroom is painted with blood smeared handprints... haha! Creepy. The bar is very long and they have a cold strip of metal that helps your beer stay cold. Super cool... haven't seen that anywhere else before. The service is super friendly and everyone seems to be nice. Their 1347 IPAs have all sorts of different flavors. We got pineapple, blood orange, then tried the pandemia (with Nelson hops), tropical thunder, and hazing scandal. Most were good except the Pineapple one. It tasted weird, like a fart. Lol. The blood orange had blood orange pulp which was cool, a bit sweet for an IPA but good. Hazing scandal was a good entry level hazy beer, not as juicy as MT or Pure Project. The best was the pandemia- it had the most juicy flavorful taste. It was good. We got a pint each. In several years I can see this place having top notch beers and the place to be in Oside. read more

Black Plague brewing was really cool. It was our last brewery in California and a bit of a drive for us, but totally worth it. Cool vibe that reminds me of Holy Mountain in Seattle. Beer is good, ambiance/style is pretty original, music selection is classic, but one employee completely blew my experience. Come 8pm on the dot, this one employee (asian, arm tattoos, mustache, glasses, beanie) rings the bell by the taps and calls out something along the lines of "We're closed. Close out your tabs...sorry." And then blasts the dimmed overhead lights to full level and kills the music. I get everyone wants to close up so they can bounce; I've been a closer before at many places. I've also worked in all sorts of industries where interpersonal skills are a must and it's not what you say but how you say it to patrons. If this dude closes every night, then he should have a diplomatically-considered spiel that he practices before bedtime so it's automatic. Something that touches on appreciation of patronage, when they'll open back up and any upcoming events, instructions to close out open tabs, and a thank you. I can think of a lot closing tasks that I can get done, too, during a 10 minute grace period as patrons are packing up so the experience doesn't come to a abrupt halt. Welcome to Black Plaque and my 116th brewery visit. Black Plague is back in an industrial area and there are a lot of signs about not parking in neighboring businesses lots. I suspect that when it gets busy parking is a problem, but not for us at 2 pm on a Saturday. There was only about 15 people inside the cavernous tasting room when we walked in. They did a great job of sticking with the Middle Ages/plague theme, including names of the beers. It being only a couple of weeks before Halloween I had to wonder if most of the decoration was everyday or added for the season. Frankly it could be either one as the decor works with the theme anyway. Little Hefe of Horrors is as the name says, a Hefeweizen with grapefruit and orange peel. Black Light Pilsner was really nice. Way more flavor than most pilsners. SWPFTD and I both got a little skunky flavor. Overall this worked for us. The Gothica Mexican lager was good, but I prefer my mexican lagers with a little more of that corny sweetness flavor. This one finished a little drier than I would like. 1347 IPA is a citrusy noted IPA. Easy drinking and not overly bitter. Since we had this one we then had to try the... 1347 IPA with blood orange. This didn't work for either of us. Just way too much orange peel bitterness at the back of my tongue. Not a fan. Bring Out Your Dead IPA. "I feel happy!" "You're not fooling anyone you know. You'll be stone cold dead in a minute." Sorry. I love the name. This IPA was my favorite so far, and I generally am not a big fan of piney flavors. This one gave just a little pine at the end but was really good throughout. The Hazy Scandal IPA is noted as having pineapple and peach aromas. It smelled heavenly and left a really nice flavor on the tongue. This is a really good hazy IPA. Daywalker Red Ale has a lovely red color. The aromas and flavor followed really well. Nicely balanced between caramel malty flavor and the hops. Definitely a red for SWPFTD! Dusted Before Dawn DIPA was a nice double IPA. Malty, hoppy, and flavorful. It didn't stand out as one of my favorites but I wouldn't hesitate to drink a pint. Lastly, the Samoa Cookie Milk Stout. Described as having "cascading flavors from the toasted coconut, cocoa nibs, maple syrup, and graham cracker." I definitely got some nice chocolate flavor from it, and maple as well. I can't say I was able to pick out any coconut but all in all this was a very tasty beer. Now put it on nitro please. Great beer selection and the food truck makes some epic burgers! Live music was really cool and fun. The shirts and other merch are pretty cool. I really like the brand. Almost like Raider's Nation for craft beer. Nice place to socialize and bring your friendly dog friends. Unfortunately there are some shady patrons here. The few times I've been here I've almost seen a fight and some people look like there under the influence of something else besides "too much beer" of if know what I mean. If you love be IPAs, you'll love Black Plague. If not, you're the designated driver or can spend time catching up on reviews. :) Love the space - it's huge, open, casual, and eclectic. Plus there's plenty of seats. One TV and it's to the left of the bar. There's a giant tabletop shuffleboard. The bar has a copper strip down the middle to keep your beer cold. And there's one table ( middle of the brewery) that has two copper strips near the ends. Pints are $6 and tasters for $2. Husband got the Tropic Thunder IPA - not as hippy as most IPAs with a strong citrus base, I'm guessing tangerines. This has got to be my new favorite Oceanside brewery! They have a few signature beers, most not too hoppy and the 1347 pale ale which they have mAde palatable with a variety of fruit additions (second menu). We started with a flight of their 4 signature beers plus one of their 1347 blends- the Tropic Thunder. Hubby liked Tropic Thunder the best and got a pint which was good, but I settled for getting a few more tasters- the blood orange, the grapefruit, and the blueberry. I liked the blood orange and grapefruit, perhaps the blood orange was a tad sweeter but both very similar. I also tried the chaI PA which tasted much like a creamy chaI tea only with booze and hops, lol. In general, the beer was quite tasty and could possibly be a good brewventure location. The bar has a copper cooling slab for you to place your beer and sip at your leisure without worrying about your beer getting warm. Pay $20 and either fill your own growler or get a new Black Plague growler plus get your fill. Either way it's $20- you decide (as of 6/24/17). $6 pints and $2 tasters of get a flight of 5 served in a wooden tray for $10. Apparel and glassware for sale as well. The decor was based on the plague and plague doctor masks pictured around. Pretty nifty along with the guillotine. Lots of open seating, plenty of parking, friendly staff. Board games available. Both men and women bathrooms as well as a unisex bathroom which happens to have a diaper changing table! Thanks for this. I can't begin to tell you how nice of a feature this is for a parent. Most breweries I've been to I've had to resort to my not so luxurious trunk as a changing table. So thanks! Overall, fun brewery with a unique theme. We'll definitely be back! read more

This brewery is a must go to when I am up in the area. They have a good selection of beer and the vibes are super metal; Tony Hawk is intimately involved with the whole operation! That means tons of great live music too. They do a cool $20 keep the glass special and their glasses have pretty cool designs so check that out! I ordered the not dead yet ale (1/2 pint $4) and the face plant (1/2 pint $4) and both were solid. Our beertender was sweet and seemed to be moving quickly even with a decent amount of people inside. I should also probably mention the burgers they serve here through full metal burgers are INSANELY GOOD. If you're here do yourself a favor and get one. read more

Revisited Black Plague recently for Sunset Trivia. The interior is still oddly set up: massive and spacious but somehow at capacity. The beer quality has improved. Some collaboration beers were especially good. But we were overall disappointed that they enforce a very early 8 PM last call when Sunset Trivia BEGINS at 7 PM. So weird. They also don't allow anyone to park in their parking lot. On busy nights, we were parking way down the street. It's just all such an odd setup in my opinion. It's not very inviting but somehow still extremely popular. read more

I think during the covid pandemic it's highly appropriate to write a review about Black Plague Brewing. With my wings being clipped of going anywhere too far lots of delving into breweries I haven't had tried but could still obtain seemed like passing time a bit more bearable. I've been a fan of Black Plague's t shirt designs for a little while and buying some here and there but it was only recently where I had the opportunity to drink their beer. I had three different beers from this brewery. I had the Acid Drop and The Executioner but unfortunately I just thought those two beers were just fair. However things did turn around when I tried the Medusa Milk Stout. That was a highly enjoyable beer and one I could easily see myself getting again. Black Plague certainly offers more beers than the three I had so perhaps continuing to focus on the dark ones will continue to be more to my liking. read more
