This is an updated review: my girls have always been braid girls. They wear their hair in braids 100% of them time but for special occasions they want their hair straight(silk press). Meling has come through for my girls numerous times over the year. When my oldest was taking senior pictures during Covid, Meling made sure she looked beautiful for her special day while taking numerous care to make sure she felt safe and comfortable during that scary time. When my youngest who's incredible 4C hair needed to be trained before taking her senior pictures, Meling worked wonders without damaging her hair and now with my daughter's going to her senior prom, Meling has manage to do her magic again and make her look amazing. I once had beautiful locs. I went to this shop monthly for several years to be styled because I wanted to keep my locs heathy and strong. Unfortunately my locs started falling out one by one beginning February 2021 (from over 100 locs down to 40) and now I am bald on both sides (which my dermatologist explained was traction alopecia caused by tight styles, heavy hair and excessive palm rolling. I have since moved out of the area so I wasn't able to deal with this issue with the stylist and our last conversation was contentious - so I haven't attempted contact- but everyday that I look at my hair I am deeply hurt to see my hair so damaged. I am trying to figure out a solution- recently had a consultation and was told my hair at the roots are too thin. I am sending this review not to bash the stylist- I should have done my research about locs - and how to maintain them in a healthy way. I ask if I can hand her the money for the deposit directly to instead of leaving it in her mailbox and she got angry and said she didn't want to do my hair anymore. I wasn't only greeted by the salon owner, Mei, but her assistant and the vibrant colors of this oh So Magical shop. On the outside you see a quaint purple salon, but on the inside you're immediately wrapped in the salons bigger than life personality; which includes Mei and her assistant! I have semi long locs and I got them dyed a burgundy(ish) color. They took their time and provided great service. Mei answered all my questions and I was thoroughly satisfied when I left. I had a similar experience to Shannon's except I had been a client of Mei'Ling's for several years. I had always been very happy with her services and referred people to her. I was deeply disappointed in her as a woman and as a professional after my last experience. She convinced me to get a weave and when it didn't turn out right and I wasn't excited about her work she decided to "fire" me as a client before I could ask her to fix it or for a refund. Like an immature brat or a woman scorned she called, stating that I had been late and that I didn't respect her time. This wasn't true. I was never late for appointments. After stating her dissatisfaction she hung up on me. She would not answer or return my calls when I attempted to call back. I ended up going to another salon where they tried to properly layer and blend the hair. They said she had braided too much synthetic hair underneath the weave. It was puffy. They did their best, but it was a bad weave, plain and simple. This was several years ago, and Yelp didn't exist then. If it had, I would have chronicled the experience. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I will never forget it. She was normally very professional but her conduct on this occasion completely changed that. She ended the business relationship because she didn't want to admit that she messed up. This actually wasn't the first time she did bad work and refused to acknowledge it. On another occasion she offered to sew in braided wefts and braid the front of my hair to match. I didn't think it was going to work. I was right and when it didn't look right she had the nerve to charge me for an additional 2 hours to fix it. I paid because I expected that it was a fluke. No, on the contrary. She believes her time is worth money even if the customer isn't happy. read more

This was my third time coming to this shop, I'm all for supporting black owned businesses but not salty ones. My second and third time coming here the owner had this one girl do my hair who had no idea what she was doing. The owner her self had to come behind the girl and clean my hair up. So this time I went in for a cap quick weave, until the shop owner manipulated me into getting a sew in claiming it would be cheaper and it wasn't. The lady that did my hair took 4 hours. I bought two packs of human Brazilian blow out hair, she used only one pack and was at the top, remind you I asked her to leave my baby hair and a little of the top out. KEY WORDS "A LITTLE" this lady left a boat load of my hair out, I basically look bald, my hair isn't full, she skipped braids in the back where she should have added some hair. It took her 2 hours just to sew one pack in, remember I had a bunch of hair left out. My hair wasn't full, she opened the second pack and used a little bit and was done in 10 mins within opening that second pack. When I got home I realized she literally fucked up my hair, it wasn't full, some of the wefts where showing and one side of my hair was fuller, and the other side was thinner with a boat load of my real hair out smh!! On top of that this lady stole my hair, I am absolutely positive that she stole my hair, she opened the second pack of hair and used one piece. When she turned me around she quickly grabbed something and put it under her bag. She glued some pieces and bobby pinned another. Then had the audacity to charge me $220 for the shitty job she did, the hair she stoled cost me $130 by it self thieving bums. What really sucks is I reached out to the shop owner and she never replied, and won't answer her phone. I messaged her and told her, she never replied. I am warning who ever is reading this and considering this place PLEASE Please SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, THEY ARE THIEVES AND THEY WILL STEAL YOUR HAIR AND MONEY. THE SHOP OWNER APPARENTLY DONT CARE ABOUT WHO SHE HAS WORKING IN HER SHOP. I'M STILL SHOCKED THIS LADY FUCKED UP MY HAIR THEN, STOLE THE REST OF IT.
