Hi there! Thick, pin straight, stubborn, dark brown head here to vouch for Nicki Zahra. I've went blonde (more like brass) once and never trusted another stylist to lift my hair color ever again. I'm extra particular about products and technique because I am CONFIDENT in what my hair requires. I would rather go years with my locks breaking off than to have any mediocre cut by just *anybody*. I will blow my last $75 on that GOOD good (products) for my hair before I pay my rent on time. I've had my fair share of disasters. From $12 corner hair shop trims, "Can I speak to the manager" stacked bobs, Garnier Fructise firey red box dyes, cutting my own bangs, to the "I'll just shave my sideburns off" identity crisis. I been THRU it to the point that my trust issues have convinced me that *I* tell the stylist how to do their job. Then they hate me and never return my calls. Maybe it was for the best. It's terrible, I know, but we all have a closer relationship to our hair than we realize. I did not realize that before coming to Nicki, but once I embraced that I was trusting a new stylist COMPLETELY, I knew I had to change if I wanted what I felt I deserved. I wanted the full experience of enjoying my hair journey. At my big age of 27 I'm trying this new thing called ~~~effectively communicating~~~ and it really took me where I needed to be with Nicki. She truly looks at your hairs resume - how long ago did you do this, was it a bad job? Which was your favorite job? Why did this style only last for a few months? What did you learn from that style? What are you looking for in your next hair journey? She really went above & beyond to make sure she was going to do her best to meet my needs. I felt warm & fuzzy inside. She C A R E S. I wanted to go lighter and have tons of dimension all while keeping my hair healthy since Im attending a wedding this following weekend. She educated me on the risks of taking my hair too light too soon and suggested we did it in sessions. She offered naughty snacks & drinks, and delivered a HELL of a head massage. I don't think anyone should be expecting this last service - but we stayed so late that she even offered to drop me off at BART. All of this is a true testament to Nicki's impeccable service. I am such a fan that I believe she honestly could excel in anything she put her mind on. If you are a victim of terrorizing your own hair, get cold feet when selecting a stylist, or even have the same thick brown straight hair as me and are looking to go lighter & FEEL great about yourself then I 10/10 recommend Nicki Zahra. Hello ladies & gentlemen, I'm writing this review on behalf of Nicole Zahra also known on Instagram @mesmereyezinghair let me just start by saying my hair was an absolute hot mess and I know it, through the years I have shown myself no self respect with the amount of box dye I used, it's sad but true, so I FINALLY got the chance to get my hair professionally done, before I even got into the chair She made sure she knew everything that my poor hair had been through, from color treatment, to heat, to washing routines I mean EVERYTHING which is extremely important when providing clients with a consultation, when I showed her what I was going for she was honest with what the results would be and the sessions it would take unlike some stylist who just throw you in their chair and completely under deliver (this is a reason I have not got my hair done, I've witnessed many friends go through this horror story) I ended up asking her what she thought would be best for me, at the end of the day you have to trust your stylist and Nicki made me feel beyond comfortable when it came to trusting her with my hair. My whole experience was just amazing, the vibe of the salon in general is very nice, it's clean, the other people working there are polite and professional, Nicki also had a snack drawer which made my heart sing when she gave me a pack of cookies because my pregnant a** was hungry. This review is for Tina Soto. I was looking for a new place to get a color and cut and came across High Fashion Studios here on Yelp. I left a message and received a response within 48 hours from Tina herself. Tina is super nice and unlike any hairstylist before asked me to send her pics of my hair's current state and a pic of what I wanted. I wanted a darker red and to chop my hair to my shoulders. It was nice to walk into an appointment and have the hairstylist already know what I was coming in for down to the color and cut. We only had to iron out a few details. Not only did Tina meet all my hair expectations, but she blew them out of the water. I absolutely love the color of my hair now. She suggested we add in more brighter red pieces to pop against the darker red we used on the rest of my hair and it looks so cool! Those bright red pops are the kind of red I have been slowly edging towards these past several years and it was awesome to finally see that bright red in my hair. Also she listened so well to how I wanted my hair length. I have had hairdressers in the past take what I say and then continue to chop off more than I asked. It made me paranoid every time I got a cut. I didn't have that issue this time around. I also felt like for as much as I had done during this appointment, it went by really fast. I have had coloring appointments in the past feel like they take soooo long. It made me think that maybe my past stylists ignored for too long. Lol. Tina Soto is a godsend!! I came to her for color correction after a humbling DIY color attempt and she fixed it exactly the way I wanted! I was able to get a hold of her via call/text and was able to work from the reference photos I sent her. She tries to understand what your style is like before starting and has targeted suggestions, which I highly appreciated since I've had stylists unwilling to do this before. She has an air of confidence that made it really easy to trust her, not to mention she's super down to earth and the salon itself has very relaxing vibes. She was very careful throughout the entire process and really knows what she's doing. As a result, the blonde I asked for actually feels healthier and more manageable than the last one I got from a previous stylist (which felt fried even after trimming). This review is long over due. This review is really based on Stephanie! Let me start with how SHE IS AN ANGEL!!! I found Stephanie on instagram (@a.vibe.called.steph), and always admired her work. To be honest, her work intimidated me because she worked with such vibrant colors and I was not into that at all. But I thought, if she's good with colors she has to be good with more basic hair colors. I decided to bite the bullet and message her. She asked about my hair journey, which included going to other stylists and never leaving satisfied to also dealing w/ some health issues that were reflecting in my scalp/hair. Ok so I can't write a very descriptive review, but I can be very HONEST!! I called and asked if I could a same day appointment and TINA fit my daughter right in. So my daughters hair was down below her bottom, and its has this funky wave to it right in the center. So she went over all her options she asked me what I thought I wanted and she asked my daughter what she wanted. Then we discussed what she thought was good, combining all our ideas. I talked to the owner TINA and showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair to be. I asked her for a quote and told me it will be $160 for my long hair. I told her that I've dyed my hair before but it's been years since the last time I dyed it. Long story short, I agreed to get my hair done. Since my hair is really dark, She took a small hair strand to test and see if it will "lift". After that she said that it will be okay and went ahead with the procedure. When she was rinsing my hair she put this "special"conditioner to my hair without telling me i will get charged for it. I didn't get the result that I wanted, I basically paid almost $200 for a couple highlights in my hair. As a full time student, I work hard for my money and I was very disappointed that I didn't get the result that was promised. I asked her for a refund but said they don't do that. I also asked her to fix it and I want it just like the picture but said I will get charge $80/hr until I get the color that I want. Did I mentioned that she talks shit about her past clients who weren't satisfied with the result and also her workers?! So unprofessional. TINA if you're reading this go ahead with your threat! For the past few weeks I've been wanting to color my hair again. One of my friends ended up recommending Stephenie Trujillo to me. She even showed me her instagram @a.vibe.called.steph shockingly I was already following her. I have seen her work before and like it alot. Messaged her before deciding on following through with Steph. I asked many questions and she would answer them, eventually I made the decision to have an appointment with her. My hair came in damaged and coarse with a few blotchy bleach marks. Throughout the whole session. She was super nice and very educational! Even though I was quiet most of the time, she made me feel comfortable. While I was getting my hair done. She also cut my boyfriend's hair, while mine was being processed. I recently visited because of a groupon I purchased. I was excited because I never treat myself and get the works. I was also looking for someone that can help me get my hair ready for my wedding in August. My first red flag was having to call 6 different times to finally get someone on the phone. I then had to switch around some other appointments to make it to this one. But I let it go! Upon arriving I did not feel welcomed as my hair was being assessed by Tina who decided huffing and puffing was the best way to come up with a suggestion for color. My hair is naturally dark and I only wanted to go a little lighter. But, instead of me being able to use the color portion of the groupon I purchased, I was told I would need to be bleached and then glazed and it would cost an additional $100 dollars. #GTFOOH. I admit, I have been using box color on myself and my current color is not that great, but I know damn well professional color is stronger and better than box color but I was told the professional colors they have will not get my hair light enough. I feel like she was trying to get more money out of me the whole time I was there. I am not confident in her color skills. So I decided to skip the color and save it for another day and at least get my hair cut. Boy, was that the biggest mistake. I asked for 1.5 inches off the ends and really just wanted a trim. I got 3 inches cut off the ends, she thinned it out which I hate because my hair is curly and it makes it frizzier and layers that do not blend, not to mention the fact that she didn't even notice I had bangs and only asked me about them after her sad attempt at "styling" my hair. (Don't get me wrong, I'm down for a blowdry style but I have super thick hair that needs to be straightened with a flat iron.) So I left with a frizzy partially straight style with curled out ends of an unblended "layer" cut. She also left every piece of hair on my hairline in my face. I was so unhappy. While she was chopping of my hair, she started telling me about a Keratin treatment that costs $350. Apparently I'm a good candidate because of my frizziness. (Her mom even poked her head out of no where to agree.) At that point I was really feeling bad about my hair. They made me feel like I have the worst hair on earth and it needs a world of work. Needless to say, I left very unhappy and all I could do was cry to my fiance. I will never return. I feel like they could have potential but I have no faith. read more

For my bachelorette party she booked me right before my trip because she wanted to make sure my hair looked fresh. I just moved back to the Bay Area a few months ago and desperately needed to do something with my hair. For a few years, I was getting my hair done at Bumble in NYC, then went to Salon Vox (a Bumble network salon) while living in Michigan. Soooo, I began my search for another Bumble network salon that WASN'T Visual Image (don't even get me started on them....), and that I didn't have to drive to San Jose or into the city for. I stumbled across HFS and decided to make an appt for a cut and body wave. My appt was with Jeremy, and he was AWESOME. Did a great job with my haircut, and he and Tina did my body wave in tandem. Everyone at the salon was super friendly and professional. Jeremy was a lot of fun to talk to and spend hours on a Saturday with (I think we had TOO much fun!). I'd definitely go back. Jeremy also works out in SF Sun-Tues, apparently, which might end up being useful for me since I work in the city. My only issue is that my body wave is already diminishing - and really, it's no one's fault but my own. My hair is super thin (though I have a lot of it), and very, VERY straight. It refuses to hold a curl, literally. I knew this about my hair but decided to go with a loose perm/body wave - all the while wondering if it'd hold very well. I should've just nutted up and went for a full perm, which would've ended up being loose in my hair, I'm sure. I'll probably just go for it next time. Definitely recommend this salon! Tina, Salon President, did a cut and color for my girlfriend with two hours notice at 5:00PM on a Saturday and she looks great. Thank you Tina! For me, their are three types of hair stylists in the World; 1) those you can go to for any occasion, especially a new style, because you trust them to make decisions about what will look good (like a style consultant in a way) 2) those you go to from time to time because they can take direction and either can fit you in short notice or won't break the bank and 3) those you don't go to. So I went into the studio knowing I wanted a perm and had them done before with poor results. What can I say, I am an optimist! Tina told me straight up that I had thick hair, that it pulls down curls and makes them hard to stick and that she would try her hardest to get some fabulous curls for me...and DID she deliver! She somehow managed to give me sexy beach hair and beautiful spirals all while making it look totally natural! I wanted to change my hair color because it was so blah. It needed a change. So one day I was looking online for the latest hair trends. I kept seeing the ombré. I immediately liked it because it was different and I wouldn't need a touch up. I went on yelp and looked for salons that had great results for this ombré. I found High Fashion Studios and called to make an appointment. My stylists was Joe. He told me he's been doing hair since 15 years of age and had a lot of training. His work really shows his talent. Joe did the ombré just the way I pictured it would look and he also cut many layers to my long hair. Schedule an appointment with Joe and you won't be disappointed. In my opinion, the best hair stylist at HSF has to be Destiny. I used to go to her for just a touch-up on my relaxer, but now she does all my hair maintenance, including trims and extensions! She's very friendly, easy to talk to, really knows how to take care of and maintain your hair, and is great at achieving the styles you want. Whenever I bring in a picture or reference of what I want she gives me that look perfectly. Ladies, we know how important is it to get that special look done right, since for many of us our hair is our calling card. She also gives me tips and product recommendations on how to take care of my hair at home, and would even gave me pointers when I used to do my own weaves at home. I've been to a lot of hairdressers, and I didn't always feel like they listened to what I wanted, and sometimes I felt like they were pressuring me into services for money. I have never felt that way about Destiny. She really listens to and cares about the client. She even remembered my birthday, and asks how my boyfriend is doing! Because she is so sweet and amazing at what she does I've started going to her to get my extensions professionally done. I've gotten sooo many compliments and I absolutely LOVE it. I'll definitely be going to her for awhile, and I recommend her to everyone who even mentions hair in a conversation. The salon itself is beautiful. The pink walls make me feel girly and ready to be pampered. The salon is clean, and the shelves are kept stocked. They also offer other services, such as make-up application and consultation. Everyone is helpful, and there to take care of the client. I especially like the privacy. At times I'd get a little anxious sitting in a noisy salon with tons of people all around me. At HFS there's much more privacy and the atmosphere is much calmer. Now I can sit and relax while getting my hair done. And of course, the occasional complimentary glass of champagne is a plus. read more

I literally fly back to the bay area from Washington, DC every 3-4 months to get my hair done by Melissa Tilton (and to visit family). After a traumatic experience with a salon in DC, I refuse to let any other stylist touch my locks. She knows what she is doing, which is great because I hardly ever know what to do with my own hair. My last appointment, she did balayage peek-a-boo blonde highlights on my long dark hair. It has a natural subtle ombre to it, which doesn't look like I dip-dyed my hair in a bucket of bleach. So I bought a Groupon for a haircut and style for this place and needless to say I'm glad I did! Tina was awesome she cut and styled my hair and I LOVE IT! She accidentally double booked me but it was no big deal she didn't turn me away I just had to wait a little bit and I'm glad I did. They allow kids which was a huge plus. My nephew was super good and he enjoyed himself too. Tina offered him air hockey. What salon does that?! I really enjoyed this place plus it's neighbors next to one of my favorite places the Reptile Room! Also they are a network Bumble and Bumble Salon and sell their retail line. Which I adore! I will definitely be coming back to see Tina! Don't let the negative reviews sway you from not coming here! I think they are mostly from caddy chics anyways! read more

I'm SUPER late on writing this review...however I did tell Joe I was going to do it, and I tend to keep my word! So back at the end of june, I was having a huge hair issue...my current spot had kinda cut me dirty the week before...my hair felt heavy, etc...i just didnt feel pretty at all with it. So I went to Yelp, found this spot, called in & talked with Joe. He was awesome about telling me how exactly to get there, where to park and that it was fine to go walk in! So I did. It's an adorable spot. Lots of pink inside & very cute tho altogether. Joe was amazing. He was the one to greet me at the door, sign me in, and then was also my hair cut guy! He took LOTS of time with me, listened to what I had to say, then took the time to explain what needed to be fixed without chopping off all my hair. He also made me feel comfortable. He was amazing about answering all my questions and he also told me his history of cutting hair and how long he's been doing it, etc. So he worked his magic and once all was done without losing tons of length & making me feel pretty again...I was done! He was awesome! I know that I have found my new place to go!! I adored his glowing personality and his cheerfulness! His honesty was also very appreciated. I haven't gone back yet for a touch up trim, but I DO plan too in the next few weeks! It's been a bit of time since I had last seen him and my hair STILL looks good!! Tina seriously is the hair doctor, I went in for balayage high lights and she got the color exact. Also the salon carries bumble and bumble products and actually use them on you. I've been to salons that carry great products but use knock off brands on their clients. She seriously takes care of her clients until they are ecstatic. I wasn't completely happy with my color the first time around, so she came in on her day off to correct it. I will come back to her for future treatments as well as additional future services! read more

Disclaimer: Review is for my stylist, not so much for the actual business establishment. The actual studio is difficult to locate if you're a first timer here. There is not distinctive sign visible from the street. The building is between a reptile shop and a liquor store. As for the actual business establishment, I haven't had much interaction with the stylists (other than mine) nor is there usually anyone at the reception desk. My stylist is Cristina and she is great! I hunted for a long time via trial and many many errors for a good stylist that could cut my stick straight Asian hair. I haven't been any where else since I've found her. She was recommended to me by a friend of mine. She does great cuts as well as color jobs. She is very open to discussion about what her client wants and definitely delivers. My stylist is pretty much what keeps me coming back here. read more

This has been my 4th or 5th visit to Tina, and as usual my hair looks great. High Fashion always offers high end products, service and atmosphere. Tina is always so knowledgeable about what products will work best for my hair. I am a swim instructor and therefore my hair takes a true beating with chlorine and sun damage on a daily basis. I love my hair and want to do what is best for it and I want to make up for the damage I put it through. On top of this I have curly med-long hair. Curly hair is a whole other difficulty in itself and I am very picky as to who I allow to cut it. Tina is always full of new ideas to do to my hair if I want something new, and creates any style with ease and precision. It's almost as if she could cut my hair blindfolded if she had to. She is great at what she does and she makes her styling seem effortless. There is much effort involved and people continue to compliment my style and good hair wherever I go. Of course they ask where I got it done at and I always refer them to Tina at High Fashion Studios in Hayward. Tina is friendly, personable and down to earth. I LOVE this in people. She always makes me feel comfortable and she has a nurturing mothering persona. This is great to feel whenever I go. I LOVE MY HAIR! Originally I had been coloring my hair bright red and once winter hit I wanted a change of color. After a lot of searching I decided on a purple ombre. I chose to get it done at High Fashion Studios because of the great reviews and I wanted to support a local business. And I am SO glad I did. I got my hair done by Tina who is the owner and she did an amazing job! My hair was a mess from the bleaching I had done to get my red hair and she fixed it with a color correction to get the perfect ombre look and she did a color melt of magenta and purple. After getting the color done, she suggested getting it trimmed and doing a layer so I told her to go ahead. Despite working on my hair for as long as she did she made sure everything was up to her standards before letting me leave the chair that day. My hair looked AMAZIIING when she was done! I spent a total of 5 hours there and it was a good time spent. Tina is very friendly and explains the process to you so you know what she is doing to your hair. . Everyone there makes you feel very welcome and a lot of laughs were had. Will definitely come back again. read more
