It was 13 minutes until closing, but we knew what we needed. As soon as we walked in, a woman at the front counter who was helping a customer held up her arm to eye level and made a lengthy, obvious production about staring at her watch. I apologized to her about coming in 13 minutes before closing. No reply. I waited for my husband to finish his purchase; however, no more than a minute after we entered my husband told us we were leaving. When I asked why, he said he overheard the female employee at the front complaining about us to her customer. They were talking about customers coming in just before closing loud enough to be heard by others. We used to love Northman's and wanted to support our local business. No more. We will gladly take our business to other merchants who have the integrity and professionalism to not gossip about customers to other customers.

They claimed it would come in within a week or so. I had to call every week for a month (they never called me), and each time there was a new excuse for why it would be just one more week. Never any apologies or offers to follow up and find out where my order actually was. When I finally had enough and cancelled my order, the owner refused to refund me until the order eventually arrives, so he could charge me a 30% restocking fee. He was incredibly rude as well, as if it was unreasonable of me to expect to get something for my $750. Thankfully my bank was able to put a back charge and force a reversal. Avoid this business. You can get better inventory and vastly better service pretty much anywhere.

As a parent I found it to be organized, helpful and welcoming to first timers. The proprietor Joel took my scared and crying but curious 5 year old up to the gates for his first lap. After that he was hooked. He took lap after lap for the 1.5 hours. The cool thing is all-ages can ride together in a safe fashion and kids learn from other experienced riders quickly. It's a great confidence builder. I'm sure they will be begging me to go back and I'm sure we will.

After having to hunt down an associate to locate one pair of boots and having her just walk away and ignore then having to interrupt the staff speaking with a manager about drama with an ex to get any kind of service I'm happy to report we left without buying a thing and will not be returning. The store was empty and had just my mother and I in it. Horrible customer service. I will be going to REI for my hiking needs.

We are very luck in the Seattle area to have NWOC! I just learned about a Meetup group that does a monthly paddle from NWOC combined with having Swedish pancakes at the nearby (about 4 blocks away) Swedish center. Apparently this happens the first Sunday of each month. Several of us from PTCC plan to try that out.

I think one extra tip that would be good to know is just pointers on how to find the entrance when we come back since we did get a bit lost, the lake is huge! Plan accordingly. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ Outdoor adventures keeps the guided groups small (maximum 12 people). I appreciate the small groups since this was my first time kayaking. Three types of kayaks are available: single, double or triple occupancy. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A Discover Pass is required to park at Spencer Spit. If you do not have a pass, a $10 day pass can be purchased with cash or check. There were several rangers checking passes on our visit so be sure to have a pass visibly displayed to avoid being ticketed. WHAT TO BRING - Signed Release of Liability - Bathing suit or non-cotton under layers preferred - A synthetic shirt (capilene, polypro, Under Armor, etc) - Shorts or pants made of a synthetic material (may get wet/damp) - Lightweight fleece jacket or windbreaker/rain jacket to provide warmth - Water shoes or sandals that strap on (or shoes that can get wet) - Sun hat and/or sunglasses - Sunscreen and chapstick - Water bottle - Optional; Camera, Plastic bag for wet items and change of clothing - If you have a gift certificate or prepaid voucher (such as Groupon) please bring a printed copy with you! Dorito Dan was our guide for the day. Dan was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The first hour is dedicated to introductions, procedures and safety. Be sure to use the restroom before departing. Once on the water, there is no turning back. Kayaking is great for teamwork and communication. Both are required to avoid frustration. I recommend wearing weight-lifting/bicycle gloves in order to prevent blisters. Each person in our group started getting blisters towards the end of the tour. During our 3 mile kayaking trip, we spotted starfish, seals and majestic bald eagles. Thank you Outdoor Adventures for providing a magnificent day of play while surrounded by gorgeous Mother Nature. We all plan to return in the near future for another go-around.
