"Basecamp" -- the Hood Canal Adventures storefront where you check in for the class. There's also a cute gift shop inside.

My husband and I and two friends took a Saturday afternoon class at Hood Canal Adventures called "Foraged Food Cooking Class - Stinging Nettle Pesto." It was taught by their foraged food chef, Nancy Smith, with Andrea as an assistant and we all loved it. You meet at their storefront called Basecamp, check in, make introductions, and drive a short distance to a place where they show you how to safely harvest stinging nettle in the wild. (If you don't bring sturdy enough gloves, they provide some.) After that you return to the kitchen next to the storefront and they demonstrate how to make a pesto with the stinging nettle leaves. At the end you get to take home a small jar or two. I loved Nancy's teaching style and everyone's sense of humor. I plan on signing up for more of these classes in the future. I would say that the class is probably less targeted to kids, since there is a fair amount of observing instead of hands-on participation -- which absolutely was NOT a problem for me. Christina, the owner of Hood Canal Adventures, also joined the class and she had a really great suggestion to visit a waterfall up the road. Visiting the waterfall on the way out was the perfect end to the day and I'm so glad she shared that info with us.

Customer service on par! We were greeted at the front and asked for assistance when strolling…read morearound several times. I noticed a lot of bikers bringing in their bikes. Tons of outdoor gear available for purchase. Some of us picked up snow shoes and snow clothing. That was our mission and it was a success to find them all here. Mind you though, the prices were crazy high. Either you can buy items used or new. A jacket my brother wanted was $500 and the one I wanted was $300. Be prepared to damage your wallet.. When checking out, we signed up for a membership. I didn't get a good look at the snowboards but I am looking for one to customize in pink with the word Hawaii at the bottom.

Upon shopping I was asked multiple times if I needed any help which they did help me find some delicious freeze dried food but when I was headed towards the checkout isle they had every single employee standing at the door with the greeter doing absolutely nothing productive but blocking me from leaving obviously I looked them all up and down and they knew what they were doing (I'm black btw) after seeing this I almost set everything back but I continued and purchased over $1270 in gear. just felt very judged and under appreciated as a customer.
