Great mushroom foraging class today. Very informative and we had a great time. The little store has a really high quality selection of books and souvenirs. We took our little dog and our own vehicle to the foraging site. Gorgeous second growth forest and so many mushrooms to discover. Our guide Jerry was fantastic! I absolutely loved my kayaking experience with our guide, Chance. He was so personable, easy - going, considerate, and extremely knowledgeable. He paddled at my pace, pointed out wildlife, and was extremely gracious in answering my numerous questions about the area and numerous tangents. What really sealed the deal of loving him as our guide was his willingness to chuckle at all my endless dad jokes. My husband and I and two friends took a Saturday afternoon class at Hood Canal Adventures called "Foraged Food Cooking Class - Stinging Nettle Pesto." It was taught by their foraged food chef, Nancy Smith, with Andrea as an assistant and we all loved it. You meet at their storefront called Basecamp, check in, make introductions, and drive a short distance to a place where they show you how to safely harvest stinging nettle in the wild. (If you don't bring sturdy enough gloves, they provide some.) After that you return to the kitchen next to the storefront and they demonstrate how to make a pesto with the stinging nettle leaves. At the end you get to take home a small jar or two. I loved Nancy's teaching style and everyone's sense of humor. I plan on signing up for more of these classes in the future. I would say that the class is probably less targeted to kids, since there is a fair amount of observing instead of hands-on participation -- which absolutely was NOT a problem for me. Christina, the owner of Hood Canal Adventures, also joined the class and she had a really great suggestion to visit a waterfall up the road. Visiting the waterfall on the way out was the perfect end to the day and I'm so glad she shared that info with us. read more

COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER!!!! The owner was super helpful in terms of getting us set up and advising us on where to go. The equipment was great. We saw a bunch of bald eagles, jellyfish, crabs, and a sea lion (or seal). I have a hard time telling the difference. It was breatakingly beautiful! I would use Hood Canal again in a heartbeat! January, froze my ass off (along with my fingers, so couldn't even massage any additional circulation in there). But the lady brought the kayaks on New Year's day, loaded them into the water for us, and was super helpful. If I come back in the summer, I will definitely rent from these guys again, and am sure it will be even more enjoyable! read more

My husband, brother, and his girlfriend were camping in Dosewallips State Park for the weekend and wanted to do some kayaking. I stumbled upon Kayak Brinnon on a google search was soo excited to see that Christina, the owner, is a biologist who also offers tours. We signed up for the Pulali Point tour with her, and added on two crab pots! The morning of our tour she called to cancel because of an incoming storm. Thankfully she was really flexible and scheduled us for bright and early the next day. We had a great adventure on this tour - spotting harbor porpoises, bald eagles, kingfishers, and many many seals and seal pups! Christina is a great resource and I would highly recommend taking this tour with her expertise nearby. Icing on the cake was catching some crabs on our way back. What a great trip! read more

We took a two-hour tour with Kayak Brinnon. Christina, the owner of this operation, was fantastic. She's a former marine biologist, and could answer a lot of my questions about the marine mammals. She was also extremely helpful in spotting seals in the water, as well as bald eagles perched in nearby trees. We were all beginners, so it was really nice to have a guide who is so patient and allows everyone time to rest, and makes sure no one gets too far ahead or falls too far behind. Before we booked our tour, we talked with Christina on the phone for about half an hour. She told us the best time to go out (the time when the harbor seals are most active). Even better, she responded right away when we called her for a reservation, and was very pleasant to deal with; other kayaking tours in Port Townsend required more advance notice (7 days) than we had, and took more than a day to get back to us. read more

We enjoyed 3 hours kayaking and crabbing with Kayak Brinnon on 6/19. Nice and sunny day to hang out with friends. Christina, the owner/operator of Kayak Brinnon, was very friendly and helpful. We rent a couple kayaks and a SUP boat to cover a party of 7 people. We dropped total 8 crab pots in the water. We got two good size red rock crabs home. It is truly fun summer activity in Brinnon. Thanks Kayak Brinnon! I set a Gopro camera inside a crab pot and got an very interesting footage in the water. Fantastic experience! Not only were we able to drive up unannounced on a beautiful summer day and get 2 kayaks for a couple of hours, but the owner took time with every customer and was very friendly even though the rental place was really busy. Then, when we were done, the owner chatted with us to find out what we were up to next and recommended a great waterfall just a couple of miles down the road. I cannot recommend this place enough. Not only is it a top notch location, but this little company has a lot to offer. Jason, the guy who helped us, is freaking awesome. Super polite and helpful guy. We had such a fairy tale experience with this group. No frills, but the operation is run by a marine biologist who is knowledgeable and makes it an even cooler experience. We loved pulling our kayaks up on the beach and eating oysters straight out of the ocean. Highly recommended. read more

The owner Christina was extremely helpful. I chose to do an overnight trip, I didn't have any set plans on where to go, Christina helped me choose a route that would be good for the weather. Extremely easy to rent from, they will deliver kayaks to a various number of boat launches and state parks. I will definitely be going back again this summer! read more
