We understand that you may need to suggest certain things such as not keeping nets or sticks in the water as it may scare the fish, but I really hope you don't continue to talk to people, especially kids the way you did ours. I never would have found it without the incredible help of Muaaz, one of the staff members, who was so exceedingly caring and attentive that he voluntarily managed to track down the person who grabbed it from the bank. Thank you, Muaaz! Many fly shops are intimidating. Most are uncomfortable to hang out in. Plenty of them employ "experts" who are outright disdainful and rude to customers who don't know what they're doing. Most other shops aren't designed to foster a real community, let alone bring a positive force to the larger community of the neighborhood. There isn't a single employee here who won't go above and beyond for you, whether you're an absolute novice, intermediate to expert angler, or just have a friend or family member who's into fly fishing. Need a gift for the angler in your life? Curious about why people are so obsessed with this sport? Want to understand why matching a rod with the appropriate reel, line, leader, and tippet seems so complicated? Want to know if that piece of equipment is really worth the price tag? Maybe you don't really need anything, but you'd like to hang out in a comfortable space designed for customers like you to relax and socialize. Maybe you're tinkering with the idea of getting into fly tying but have no idea where to start. Or perhaps you could really use some expert advice based extensive experience -- without being told you have to buy $2,000 worth of whatever. If any of the above rings a bell, this is the place. We caught 3 COHO keepers and several others. On our way out, we dropped pods in the AM and got 5 Dungeous crabs on our way home. Lucky for us the season just openned up. Back when you could drop $2 in your tank and $2 for lunch we fill the car up and travel to Green Lake for sunning our bodies with baby oil and swimming all summer long in the waters of the lake. For some reason I never saw the sea monster that was rumored to be in the lake but I did encounter angry ducks & geese out on Duck Island on the west side of the lake... My only regret I wasn't old enough to see Led Zeppelin play at the lake in 1969.... Be that as it may I had a blast coming to Green Lake in my youth...

These guys are the nicest bunch of fly fishing nerds you'll ever meet who deliver too notch customer service. They are curious and passionate about what they do and want to share the best of what they know. I was in there the other day to buy some flies that I didn't have time to tie and materials for making a sand lance pattern. Jake (? Andy? I suck at names...) was so helpful and knowledgeable helping me find what I needed. He brought to bear what insects he knew were active where I was going to fish, as well as the nuances of sand lance colors, so I could make the best choices in tying materials and how to tie the pattern. We even geeked out talking about my using feathers from my hens for tying materials. What fun! Hats off to shop owner, Ryan Smith, and Team Avid. Every time I've gone to shop there, I've been blown-away pleased at the kindness, generosity, knowledge, humor, sincerity, and patience of the people working there. No machismo. Just real people.
