Customer service on par! We were greeted at the front and asked for assistance when strolling around several times. I noticed a lot of bikers bringing in their bikes. Tons of outdoor gear available for purchase. Some of us picked up snow shoes and snow clothing. That was our mission and it was a success to find them all here. Mind you though, the prices were crazy high. Either you can buy items used or new. A jacket my brother wanted was $500 and the one I wanted was $300. Be prepared to damage your wallet.. When checking out, we signed up for a membership. I didn't get a good look at the snowboards but I am looking for one to customize in pink with the word Hawaii at the bottom. read more

I came into this store in a brand new truck and decided that I wanted to get everything for camping this summer from this location. Upon shopping I was asked multiple times if I needed any help which they did help me find some delicious freeze dried food but when I was headed towards the checkout isle they had every single employee standing at the door with the greeter doing absolutely nothing productive but blocking me from leaving obviously I looked them all up and down and they knew what they were doing (I'm black btw) after seeing this I almost set everything back but I continued and purchased over $1270 in gear. just felt very judged and under appreciated as a customer. read more

It was my first time in REI silverdale and I had a great shopping experience. I was looking for water resistant boots. I was approached by an employee who gave me a selection of boots and I ended up with the Keen Hiking boots for $168. Turns out the same exact shoe was in the garage sale section in my size for $68 and it was pretty much brand new. I signed up for membership and received a $20 gift card which essentially paid for the membership. I look forward to returning to buy outdoor pants and maybe snowboarding gear. Was stocking up on mosquito face nets before going to Belize and found they didn't exists in Seattle area; so off on a road trip to Silverdale. Thank you REI for showing stocking on your website so I don't waste time finding the item isn't in stock. After a 1 1/2 hour drive we arrive and I found the REI here to be just the right size; not too small; not too big. You can navigate from one side of the store to the other in 60 seconds and have at least 2 associates ask you if you need any help. There was a nice karma and atmosphere to this store that lacking in other stores. Maybe it's because it's small and the employees seem to be happier and more accessible than I find in the main REI where they tend to be too busy and lack the accessibility I find at the Silverdale location. Of course, I'm not going to drive to Silverdale every time I want something at REI. I just want to complement this location as standing out in a good way. read more

As an avid hiker and conservationist I am 110% opposed to everything REI stands for, however I am not adverse to bargains on good outdoor equipment. Generally their prices are the highest, but at certain times you can get great deals. Their house brand, with a few disgraceful exceptions has been high quality, well designed, and economical. The help is generally competent and friendly as long as you do not listen to their "experts". This is pretty true in all Puget Sound stores. Anyone who can do the math and read the terms will know to stay away from the membership. read more

I've dipped into this store a few times to pick up camping gear and generally peruse their wares. The store is on the smaller side compared to other locations, but they have the essentials. I recently visited to look for a mountaineering pack for my Mt. Rainier climb next year, and while I didn't find any of the models I was hoping to try out (boo!) I received excellent help from Joe (yay!). He measured my torso so I'd know what size pack to look for and helped me check stock in other REI stores. He also gave me a ton of info on sleeping bags which was very helpful. It was nice to talk with someone who has actual experience in the outdoor conditions I'm planning for. I only ended up buying a headlamp during that visit but I'll be back for other things. read more

I waited around for a sales rep to free up, even waited in their line, once my turn came he completely bypassed me and helped the customer behind me, first world problems here, but also sold them what I was intending to purchase- which happened to be the last one. Visiting my mom across the Sound earlier today, I had the opportunity to check out the REI in Silverdale. I still remember the original flagship store in Seattle's Capitol Hill when I first became a member. Love the periodic member sales, but kind of dislike the crazy parking situation and crowds at the current flagship store by Eastlake/South Lake Union area. Today was in total contrast: lots of parking, manageable crowds, super friendly and helpful staff at the door, at the department of interest, and at the cashier counter. Excellent products and a great staff: REI provides one of the very few retail shopping experiences that I find to be not only tolerable but actually somewhat enjoyable. I'm fairly certain that every outdoor enthusiast in this region is already familiar with Recreational Equipment, Inc. and the products and services they provide, but if for some reason you are not already a member of the co-op then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? Seriously, if you are even casually interested in hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, running, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, kayaking, etc., etc. THIS IS YOUR STORE. Membership has a few perks, too: such as occasional store-wide sales, 20% off coupons, and 10% rebate ("dividend") on any full price purchases made each year. Pretty much all of the gear is high quality, and everything is backed by an awesome 1-year return policy too. The Silverdale REI store certainly isn't the largest, but it's relatively diminutive size (compared to the Seattle flagship location, anyway-- this is still a large store) and remote location (again, compared to to the Seattle metro area) are part of the appeal to me-- it never seems to be crazy busy any of the times I've been to this location. Each time I've stopped in here I've found the staff to be quite helpful and informative, plus it's the closest REI store to the Olympic mountains. Great store! read more

Last night I went into the Silverdale store to get a new hex screw for my cycling cleats as I had lost one. Jeffrey at first took me over to the cleats. I asked him if they sold just the screws, as I didn't need an entire new set of cleats. He proceeded to go in the back, find a screw, and put it on for me at no charge. I fully understand the desire for businesses to comply with mask mandates. I do not; however, ever want to see a store associate literally chase down then mansplain how to wear the mask to my son. I will not come here again. I have literally spent thousands here. I intend to take full advantage of the 100% money back guarantee that REI offers. There are plenty of places to get these items that do not impose their "morally superior politic" on me or my family. The associate's name was Noel and he was ULTRA rude to us. As my wife was leaving the store he said, "Have a nice day" then said "staring me down..." under his breath. I've dealt with him before. He is always flirting with the female team members behind the service counter. He is the primary reason for my decision. It is also worth mentioning that I am a licensed Respiratory Therapist in 5 states and a Respiratory Clinical Educator. Noel was improperly wearing his cloth mask with no seal over the bridge of the nose and "pocket holes" at the cheeks providing multiple vectors of viral entry. If he is the arbiter of correct medical mask usage, maybe he needs proper PPE education. read more

Love this store. The employees are knowledgeable. The items are more expensive because the quality is better. If you want walmart quality and prices go there not here. I want something that is going to last. That way I only have to buy it once. In the long run buying quality will always save you money. I have the same REI backpack that I bought in the early 90's. No rips no tears. I bought my sons tent here and it has last longer than I ever expected. He is in boyscouts and if you know scouts they are hard on tents. His tent is always the driest after a rain, no condensation. The only reason I'm back is because he wants an ultralight backpack. So we are looks at all the options they have. There are several. They also have a website with all the specs and you can easily compare item you saw in the store. Shop smart, buy quality, REI is one of my goto stores. read more

Purchased a electric bike at REI Eugene OR. Thought was safer to deal with REI due perceived company reputation. I am traveler and retired. Sure enough izip E3 Metro broke with less than one year and still within warranty. Bike tech admits lack of experience and skills. Tech Cites delay with currie tech support. REI flagship store is just across the sound in Seattle and sells and services e bikes. I expect a solution with integrity, without drama in a timely manor. Perhaps if I were not traveler I would have purchased bike "locally" at a local shop. read more

First time inside an REI. Took my kiddo to grab a fall jacket and shoes for school. Everyone was super friendly. Awesome selection of outdoor gear (of course). On 2/13/17 at noon, I went to REI to pick out a new backpack with my sister who has very particular and specific features in mind for day hiking with a few dividends in hand as well. I have always shopped at this location for years because it's smaller and I usually feel very comfortable with the staff and well taken care of. We found a backpack that she liked, but it was excessively big for what we need for a shorter day hike, and a staff member (older mid 40's woman with light brown hair) came over to "help" us. My sister asked me for my opinion, and the staff member blatantly said I was wrong and I "obviously wasn't a hiker" and proceeded to tell me how wrong I was for my opinion on the backpack. She kept repeating "you need a bag big enough for your ten essentials" but she couldn't even name them. She had no idea what we were shopping for and disrespected me in such a way that I will not return to this location. I work in customer service and would be fired if I ever spoke to a guest the way she did to me. I would've loved the opportunity to learn or even hear why she didn't agree with my reasoning, but instead she was rude, disrespectful and even made my sister uncomfortable. I will gladly drive to Tacoma or Seattle if I ever desire to shop with REI again. read more

I love me some REI- the store just puts you in the mood to get our doors, go camping, or on a hike - although that's the farthest thing on my to do list. We came here this past summer to check out their Thule Racks. We were going on our annual Southern California road trip and our SUV needed some more storage space. The associates were beyond helpful and friendly. They answered our questions promptly and if they didn't have it would find out for us. They helped put the Thule on and we were on our way. Two weeks later I see that the Thule we purchased was on sale for $125 cheaper and they were kind enough to give me the price difference although I had come in a day after the sale ended. For any outdoor needs this is definitely the place to get your stuff. read more

This USED TO BE a great store. The management was fun and the folks in the bike department were knowledgeable and attentive. But sadly there is a new(er) manager who is heinous and rude/mean to customers. I watched that same manager berate the father of a family for asking if a garment was going to be marked down during the next sale. I mean, a full blown dressing down, belittling and treated the guy like dirt ("That's a quality garment, and IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT, maybe you should just put it back and shop for something that is a little more in keeping with your budget")! WOW!! I have also had the displeasure of having to talk to the guy and feel it is anathema that REI would hire someone like that?? The new staff is a 50/50 mix of newer employees and disaffected older employees who are quick to ask you if you want help, but then act like they can't wait to fade you, if you actually have a need. The bike department used to have a great staff as well, but they've all left. Now their product mix for bikes is really sad (there are more bicycle product returns hanging up, that bikes for sale), and the customer service is at an all-time low. Honestly, I could find this level of product knowledge and lack of interest at WalMart. I enjoy going to the Seattle store, but I live in Kitsap County now, and have been using the Silverdale store for convenience. After what I witnessed at that store the last time I was in (as well as my last 2-3 experiences in that store)- I've decided to let my REI membership lapse. It's really sad too- because I've been a member for about 25 years. There are better options (and even prices) elsewhere. My advice would be to seek those out unless you need to attenuate your otherwise sunny day with tepid sales people and a manager with anti-social tendencies (in which case this store is a GREAT option). read more

And we had a worker name Melissa helped us out when we in the shoes part of the store. She was amazing. I had an amazing experience there thanks to her. And got my hiking shoes! Hands-down best customer service I've had in ages! I came in to look at backpacks for an overseas trip and Val was helpful in every way. She discussed options after listening to my needs, fit one to my back, and then offered to order one I was interested in from the distribution center because the item was out of stock. I came in the next day and she helped me out with a couple of other items for my trip, including looking up whether I needed a converter for my various chargers. Val really went above and beyond what she needed to do as a salesperson without being pushy or trying to upsell everything. We bought 2 Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 kayaks. We had one of them for one week and the rear bulkhead failed and ruined everything including an iPhone. The kayak was replaced with a new kayak- great. Now just over a year later the bulkhead seals failed on both kayaks and I brought them to the Silverdale store and the manager said it was normal wear and tear and there was a product I could purchase to fix it myself at the nearest Ace Hardware store! Excuse me but this is an excellent case of extreme customer non-support. PURE BULLSHIT!! My name is Bud Price and I am a member of the National Ski Patrol as an Alpine Patroller at Snoqualmie Pass and a SPART member of King County Search and Rescue as well as Kitsap County Explorer Search and Rescue. This was my first visit to REI. I had great customer service until one of the managers came up to the sales associate helping me and reprimanded him in front me. The manger talked down to the sales associate informing him he needed to pay attention and make decisions on his own. If it was the right decision to help me based on the amount of people in the store than he could proceed to help me. WHAT!!!! I felt bad for the sales associate who was multitasking helping me and another guy with our bike racks. Great sales associate, poor management. I was also disappointed in their limited amount of cycling /triathlon attire and accessories. I think making the trip across the water to Seattle is worth it!!!! read more

Customer Service over the holidays way past my expectations. Bought two pair waterproof snow/rain boots and liked them so much came back to order two more pair but the stock was out in the store . Employee helped order another pair on line to be delivered to my house before the holidays. Boots got delivered to the wrong address . Long story short I purchased a total of four pairs of boots but received 6 because of the delivery mix up . I returned the 2 pair I did not pay for at the store in Silverdale. I love REI, and have been a member for nearly forty years. I was excited to see the Silverdale store open, and once again have found the customer service exceptional. Although not nearly as large as the Seattle store, I have always found what I needed. My only reservation is the pricing, which can be shockingly high. I needed a new rain jacket for a recent trip to Alaska, and found a good Gore-Tex Jacket to be upwards of $500 and beyond. This is way beyond my budget, yet found a VERY heavy duty Gore-Tex "for severe wet weather" at Cabella's for less than $300. I will continue to shop at their sales events, and on occasion even go in browse for the heck of it. read more
