Very nice atmosphere with comfy seats. Nicely made and smoked old fashioneds. Lamb bits were good, blueberry dessert even better. Service was quick and helpful.

Beef Tibs with collard greens on top of injera bread

Great welcoming vibe. Unique flavors and an expansive menu with several interesting features. I had the beef tibs with collard greens--absolutely delicious and a tasty blend of wonderful spices (not overly spicy hot), collards were great too and food was served on a bed of injera bread. My first chance to taste injera and I loved the flavor and texture (thin like a crape, lemony flavor, faint fermented taste...delicious) . The conch appetizer was a perfect starter, lightly battered, fried, not greasy, and conch itself was tender and not overly chewy like sometimes calamari can be. Service was good (thank you Mehret), took time to explain several culturally specific dishes and patiently answered our questions Definitely coming back enjoyed everything from vibe to deserts...exceptional.

We would try everything on the menu if we lived here. Terri was an awesome server helping us while also working large groups celebrating birthdays. We had the black garlic pasta - a must order from the Caribbean portion of the menu - and the shrimp tibs - delicious Ethiopian food. The cocktails came with a beach vibe. Great music playing in the background.

The food is really good. The service was fast and I was very impressed by how personable the staff was. The place was big and spaced out. I would come back for happy hour. The items I wanted to try are on the happy hour menu. Also, the cocktails were sneaky good. Sip slow

We were in town for a conference and this place was the highlight of the trip! Amazing food! Wonderful, attentive, and knowledgeable service! The conch appetizers were beyond phenomenal! The fried snapper was the best that I ever had. Cannot give this place enough stars, amazing ambiance!

We came here after a comedy show. We wanted to try something new. Hubs made a reservation and when we got there, we were seated immediately. Hubs ordered the Rum punch and I had the Hibiscus Mojito. The drinks were very good. For starters, we had the crab cakes and the shrimp. Both were delicious. For our meals, we both ordered the Lamb Tibs. I'm not a fan of injera personally, but that didn't take away from the meal. It was so good and full of flavor. If I had to critique anything it was cabbage was a little mushy. I gather the potatoes made it that way since they basically disintegrated in my mouth. Not a bad place and I'm sure we will be back!

Met some lady friends at this midtown restaurant on a week day evening. It was a good crowd. There was a DJ spinning and leading bingo. Which brought some fun and festive energy to the space. We started with drinks and apps. The jerk chicken bao buns were spicy and delicious. The conch fritters were good too. They came with a green sauce that was delightful. Now to the entrees: - the chicken jambalaya was served in a piping hot iron skillet full of chicken and sausage. -the branzino came with perfectly roasted Brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes. It was delicious. - 5) the lamb dibs were diced and spicy and slightly chewy, but not as spicy as the jerk chicken. It was served with lentils, green salad and injera (spongy bread). It was delicious. We didn't have room from dessert, next time. I love the fusion of carribean and African foods. Lots of seafood options. This location is much bigger than there former spot across the street when it was Mesob. Service was kinda slow but friendly.

The happy hour jerk chicken is not worth it. The cocktails are good and those sweet plantains are amazing. Very cute. Not much has changed since the last name. Service was good.

Trying out this restaurant for the first time in midtown area. Lounge style atmosphere. Unique cuisine for the Kansas City area. They serve Caribbean and Ethiopian food. We just happens to be there on the first Friday where they have live Ragge music. Service seem a little slow when we arrived for dinner. They weren't completely packed but probably just busy. I opted for their Caribbean black garlic seafood pasta, which was exceptional. My friend had the Ethiopian Beef Tibs. It was unique and different in flavors. We both had not had Ethiopian food before. For dessert, we had their rum red velvet cake served over vanilla ice cream. It was really good. Both the entrees and dessert was nicely presented. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you want to eat dinner there. Otherwise there is seating around the bar.

This location has free street parking around it. It is a little dark but has a cool vibe and good music playing. The service was great, our waitress was lovely. The food was really good. My husband really liked the snapper but thought the coleslaw was spicy. I got the beef tibs and it was really good not super spicy. I got the red lentils as my side. The jambalaya was good. The cocktails were yummy as well. This restaurant is worth a visit.

I tried a new place for restaurant week and for me was a hit! Black Garlic has a cool vibe where you might end up in a conversation with the people beside you. Eden our server was incredible. Very knowledgeable about the food and her suggestions were on point. I had the jerk bao bun which was incredible. Then I took on the Spinach salad. It was very refreshing. Next was the Short Rib with green beans and mashed potatoes. Meat tender, green beans flavorful and mashed potatoes a hit! Ended with a great dessert upside down cake! Warm and delightful. The old fashioned was great. I will definitely go back!!

This first visit made a great impression on me. The service was the best and the environment was so chill. A perfect place to meet up with friends or for a date night. The food and drinks were amazing. I'm looking forward to going back for an experience of their regular menu items.

Stopped in with friends before a show and we had a pretty decent meal. We ordered 3 appetizers. I loved the Caribbean fritters and my friends enjoyed the others. All 4 of us enjoyed our entrees. One friend really really loved hers. Mine was good but overpriced for what it was. The other two liked theirs but didn't love them. The restaurant was cute and I loved the plant wall. Server was friendly enough but didn't go out of her way to make us feel comfy. They had an alcohol menu and are called Black Garlick and rum bar. They didn't serve alcohol. Not a huge deal but I was excited about some of the drinks on the menu and bummed I didn't get to try them. I'd go back again.

We looked around for a minute before a server noticed us and was like "uhhh we'll put you here at the end of the bar." Our bartender was fine but the other guy was doing all this flare and nonsense to get everyone's attention. He was the loudest person at the bar and inserted himself in our conversation twice. He clearly wanted attention which we found annoying and distracting. The drinks were good and the vibe was generally good. A nice eclectic mix of people. The DJ was great too! The service staff seemed very rough in both their interactions and their appearance. I hadn't been here in years, but I remember it being a far more refined and polished experience than what he had last night. Lastly, I don't think our $50 deposit was applied to our check. I forgot about it until this morning and didn't bring the receipt home. We each only had one drink and my total charge was $52. Not the end of the world but just another point in how they don't appear to be as on top of their service as I've previously experienced.

This trip, I went straight for the shrimp tacos. They had a little kick, which I loved. Give me spicy shrimp and I'm a happy human. But the real non-negotiable item is the the not so standard potato chips with dipping sauces. Gram & Dun serves them with Parmesan and a sauce flight featuring gold sauce, comeback sauce and black pepper bourbon ketchup. The restaurant is also open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, so you have plenty of opportunities to make poor decisions involving those chips. For our entrees, we got the OG Smash Burger from the happy hour menu, the Blackened Shrimp & Grits, and a side of the truffle potatoes. The standout for me was definitely the Shrimp & Grits. The grits were deliciously cheesy, while the smoky shrimp and sauce on top cut through them nicely with a sweet and spicy gravy. Nestled inside the ultra-luxurious Raphael Hotel, this upscale Restaurant/jazz club had our group feeling like we were heading to a high-society adult prom. The ambiance practically demands a raised eyebrow and a sophisticated toast. Naturally, the libations were flowing. On one end of the table sat a chocolate martini so decadent it looked borderline sinful. On the polar opposite end of the spectrum, I ordered an extra-dirty Chopin martini, complete with blue-cheese-stuffed olives. Look, it didn't reinvent the wheel, but it was executed exactly the way I'd make it at home--assuming I could ever actually find a bottle of Chopin in any of our local liquor establishments. (Seriously, who is hoarding it?) We kicked things off with the gourmet bread basket. Do yourself a favor and cough up the extra $5 for the super soft bread and whipped butter; your tastebuds will thank you for not being cheap. For my starter, I opted for the she-crab soup, which presented itself as a spectacularly rich crab bisque. Word on the street is that she-crab Is vastly superior to he-crab. This is a PG-rated review, so I shall leave the mechanics to your imagination. Then came the piece de résistance: the 12-ounce ribeye, flanked by asparagus spears and Delmonico potatoes. This sucker was thick. When I asked our waitress for a proper steak knife, she politely pointed to my standard-issue butter knife and confidently declared, "That's it!" I thought she was joking. She wasn't. Melt-in-your-mouth is an understatement; this medium-rare masterpiece yielded to a butter knife like it was soft brie. The sides were equally stellar. The Delmonico potatoes were a beautifully elevated, elite version of scalloped potatoes, and the asparagus was snappy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The evening's only tragic misstep was the cheesecake. It, too, was incredibly thick--but in all the wrong ways. While fortunately not overbaked, the texture resembled a very well-flavored, highly gourmet paste. To add insult to injury, the graham cracker crust had completely surrendered its structural integrity, offering none of the classic crunch I crave. Minor dessert tragedy aside, it was a phenomenal evening. The service was impeccable, the vibe was unmatched, and that steak alone warrants a return visit. Next time, I'll just be exploring a different corner of the dessert menu.
