Outside of restaurant

Found this hidden gem when googling Jamaican food near me. I was out with some friends who's never had Jamaica food before. I told them it's a must try! It's one of my FAVORITE cuisine's. I ordered a beef patty, curry goat , ox tails with okra, cabbage with rice and beans. It was SO delicious! The people at the restaurant were very nice, the lady who took my order offered me to sit down own the other side and I must say it was pretty cool. Lots of bright colors and decorated nicely. It's a bar with tables for those who choose to dine in, with a patio for outside seating. I'll definitely be returning when it gets warmer to enjoy the outside patio. Last but not least try the rum punch!

My jerk chicken plate

A hidden gem, somehow I added this place into my KC Collection. Figured there's no time like the present to try them out... I'll get burnt ends on another day. I pulled up and it reminded me of how small joints look in Jamaica. I was the only customer at the time. They had reggae jammin the whole time! I ordered the dark jerk chicken plate, peas & rice, and plantains! Oh yeah, a Ting too! The food didn't take too long to come. It was steaming. I let it cool off a bit before I started eating. The chicken was juicy and spicy! Flavorful! The peas & rice was filling and the plantains were plentiful! If you're tired of bbq, come check them out!

I went in to taste the red snapper. I've been back once a week since for the oxtail meals. Friendly and fast service! Drinks are amazing as well.

I heard about this place a while before I tried it, but never got a chance to go there. Me and a few friends finally decided to go after work one day and really enjoyed it. The hostess greeted us with a big smile as soon as we walked in the door and told us about the specials for the day. The restaurant/bar was darker than I preferred and the decor was a little outdated. They played Jamaican music in the background (which you would expect from a Jamaican restaurant) and also had a tv in there as well. At the time we went, they had 2-for-$5 domestic beers and a few food specials as well. I wasn't hungry, so I got rice & peas with curry gravy. My friends got jerk chicken, which came with rice & peas, cabbage and cornbread. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. The waitress was very helpful and the environment was comfortable. I'd recommend this place for anyone wanting to try authentic Jamaican cusine

Oxtail with 2 sides, rice and peas and fried plantains

First time to this establishment, and I'm planning to come back! I really liked the Caribbean vibe from the decor, and they had reggae music on blast, even when we were the first customers there. I ordered the oxtail with rice and peas and fried plantains, and I loved it. I was glad I looked to yelp for people's favorites and ordered that as my first dish, and it was lovely. Rich, gelatinous, perfectly seasoned and spiced. The fried plantains came as a surprise since I was expecting something more thin and crispy and seasoned, but I suspected that it was to balance out the flavors and richness of the oxtail. My friend ordered the chicken curry stew and she liked it a lot too. Overall, it was a great first experience, and I love it when the food is cooked and done right, that now I can't wait to come back to try other offerings on the menu!

Combo plate. Fire ass macaroni salad, curry chicken, ox tails, and jerk chicken. Delicious!

Clean, bright, smelled like Egyptian Musk incense and they were playing all mid to late 90s R&B (112, 702, any BadBoy signee basically) Service is warm, casual and friendly. Got the combo plate, Ox tails, jerk and curry chicken with rice and peas and a huge slice of cornbread! So good. They had Pink Ting too! Will be back for the fish plate.

I've been trying to catch up on reviews from last year, but this is the perfect place to kick off my reviews for 2016. Simply amazing! Probably the best oxtails in Kansas City. Tender, fall off the bone, not fatty, and seasoned perfectly. They can seriously make you moan while eating them. The baked sweet potatoes are perfectly cooked and great quality. The cabbage steamed just right to be soft but not mushy. The cornbread had to be made from scratch. Just the best plate of food for a chilly night. They also have some amazing drinks. If you liked rum, this is your place. If you like margaritas, they have at least ten flavors. They have a full bar outside of their drink specials. So glad I found this place. They easily are in my KC to ten. Amazing owners. Local. Everyone needs to stop and support them! I might have to go back this week myself and try another option on the menu!

My Winner of Best Restaurant Week Meal 2026…read more I hadn't been back to Westport Cafe for a few years but now I'm kicking myself because I've been missing out! I remembered this restaurant being one of my favorites in years past . For some reason it fell off my radar. Now it's shining like a beacon of fine dining French inspired cuisine in Westport, an entertainment district known for a more casual environment. If you are looking for a special date night meal, somewhere for a girls night or just for a treat yourself dinner I would highly suggest Westport Cafe. Let's talk about this incredible restaurant week menu. First was the deconstructed crab cake (which is always on the menu) I would order this dish again and again. The way it was presented was a work of art. All the components were complex and it was fun to eat. It has such an essence of crab without the heaviness deep fried crab cakes usually have. Seafood is special here because the Trout Almondine was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It begs to be added to the menu. The sauce was buttery and rich with nutty notes, the citrus cut through the richness so, it didn't seem heavy. The fish was cooked impeccably, I literally had no notes. They know what they're doing in that kitchen! And you know if I can rave about green beans then it was a perfectly executed dish. They had such a nice snap and vibrant green color, they were delicious dipped in that sauce. I cannot wait to go back for another solo splurge meal. This was my second dinner of the evening so I didn't make it to dessert at the restaurant but, I did take it to-go. I'm not a big dessert girl so, it wasn't very memorable however, the rest of the meal is engrained in my mind. I remember back a few years ago I used to go crazy for the muscles here so, I can't wait to sample them again. Also, just a note any menu that has rabbit on it just completes me. It's so hard to find nowadays in Kansas City and it's one of my favorite meats to indulge in. The menu rotates seasonally (as one should) so, I need to rush back in soon before the rabbit leaves. I would suggest you rush in too, I do not think you'll regret it.

Cafe Trio is most definitely a hidden gem! The inside was very elegant, quiet, and had great ambiance. The pianist was also a great add on to the experience. The wait staff were nicely dressed and were all super sweet. Ross, our waiter had the bar make us our own wine which was just wine and juice mixed to get to the specific taste we wanted. I note this because not a lot of restaurants will go this far to accommodate but Cafe Trio did and it was just delicious. Let me tell yall about this grilled salmon. Absolutely delicuous! It was grilled thoroughly and still kept its shape. You can tell they put a lot of attention to their dishes because I only mostly came back here for the salmon and it was even better than the first time I had it, in fact even more delicious! The gnocchi ricotta was also delicious. Soft, pillowy, and just melts in your mouth after biting into it. My husband enjoyed his pasta, which they added mushrooms to because he doesn't eat meat. At the end of the night, I had them surprise my husband with a cake and they added a candle to it so that we may commemorate our 2 years. Honestly this place is great and the food speaks for itself. They have a new menu coming out and I'm already making plans on coming back to try it out.

Most of the mixed drinks are well made, depending on who is working and what time of year it is (towards finals, student-made coffee downgrades). And the most AMAZING thing is that a refill of coffee is only a quarter! $25 cents for a whole cup of joe! You gotta be kidding me! But I'm not. And they're not. They're serious. Us art students need our coffee and we need it cheap. How else will we have money to buy overpriced art supplies? :) All of the food I have tried here is delicious. Those weird little hummus wrap things ROCK! bagels always good, but ask for the house-made herb cream cheese!!! To die for!! And the cinnamon and banana muffins are my favorite. The Nerm also offer a wide range of sandwiches, pastries, fountain sodas, and yummy things. Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. It's the kind of business you can feel good about supporting and I'll be back!

My friend has celiac disease, so it's important to me to ensure my gifts to her meet her dietary restrictions. I checked online and discovered that almost all of Andre's chocolates are gluten-free and--better yet--they were open on Christmas Eve until 4 pm. So I dashed over after work, arriving at 3:40, and the folks behind the counter were all so kind and so helpful. I explained what I needed and they showed me the ready-made boxes of chocolates available--but then offered to put one together for me right then, to make sure that we chose exactly what she wanted and that every chocolate was gluten-free. They guided me through the choices, telling me the flavors that were in some of the selections, and giving their recommendations based on my friend's tastes. How nice of them!! I walked out close to the stroke of 4 pm, with the perfect box of chocolates in a lovely gift box. Hurray!! I really appreciate the staff's kindness, and going the extra distance for my friend, at the very end of their work day before the holiday started.
