I always research before I travel and black drum was high on my list. I was in the Myrtle beach area for spring bike week 25'. We rode 40 minutes to black drum only to be essentially turned away. They wouldn't allowed motorcycles past the guard gate and said we could park up the hill and walk the 3/4 of a mile which we would have gladly done but then she dropped the real kicker. Motorcycle parking was $75 per bike. What an absolute scam. If you don't want peasants in your brewery then advertise it that way. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Good ambiance and pretty good food. We didn't have to wait and sat right down. Server was kind but a little absent most of the time. We started with yummy ipa beer and the hush puppies and honey butter. Both excellent! I got the fish n chips and it was SO GOOD. I could only eat one piece and the fries were good too, but I couldn't eat a lot of them because I was so full from the hush puppies. Hubby got the burger and ordered medium. Why is this place called "Black Drum Brewing"? They do NOT brew any of their own beer. They really are more of a "Black Drum Taproom". And they're part of the Hilton/Embassy network next door, so expect hotel pricing. ($18-40 per dish, depending on if you have a protein-heavy item) I, personally, wouldn't go out of my way to come here if I was staying in Myrtle, but it can be worth the visit if you're already in the area and can tolerate the prices. If you aren't deep into Kingston, though, there are probably better, and more affordable, places to eat and get beer. PROS: -Wide selection of beer. They're more of a Taproom than a "Brewing", but they still have a decent selection on draft. It was about 10-ish boring options (your Miller Lites), 20 state-ish craft options (North and South Carolina), and 10 not-so-local craft options (regional beers). It wasn't just flagship offerings, either, so you can end up with the seasonal Octoberfest from a city-over brewery. -$14 beer flights. They're expensive beer flights, buuuut they have a large menu of beers. This can be a fun way to try a bunch of different beers at once. -Jacob is probably one of the best servers I've ever had. He said he was leaving soon, but it deserved the shoutout; we had really great, friendly, but-not-overwhelming, service sometimes. -THE PIZZA. Jacob recommended the pizzas on their menu after they hired an amazing pizza chef, and that's 100% my recommendation too if she's working. The pizza has the perfect level of charred-for-flavor taste to it while being PILLOWY soft. I've never had a pizza like it. -Gigantic "complex" of a restaurant. Black Drum is connected by a gate to a hot tub and pool area owned by the Embassy hotel next door. (You're not allowed into the area if you're not staying at the Embassy.) Black Drum, itself, however, has a surprising amount of things to do including a cornhole/bags area, social seating around fireplaces, live music, and more. CONS: -Pricey prices. Between being ocean side, attached to a pool and hot tub lounge, and a hotel-associated restaurant, reasonable prices never stood a chance. -Service quality seems to really vary on the day. It looks like they might be running on minimum servers - whether intentionally or by lack of employees. We've had great, 5-star service (like Jacob), and we've had a server who was trying her best, but she was serving the entire outdoor area by herself. More staff is definitely the solution here. -I'm really not vibing with any of their cocktail offerings. It's a pretty slim menu, and for being the bar/restaurant that overlooks and serves the pool and hot tub area next to the ocean, it's really devoid of "beachy" drinks. -Not the Black Drum's fault, but it's odd that this is a restaurant closer to the beach than some beachfront hotels...and you can't really see the beach/ocean. read more

Here for a conference and this was a quick walk from the Hilton. I waited about 10 minutes for a table outside and had a wonderful dinner. Started with a martini and then opted to try a beer flight with dinner. The server recommended the shrimp platter and it was excellent. So I want to start out that I've loved Black Drum since the first time I went in October and the most amazing Christmas meal and service. Let me bring you to this day, Easter! I want to also say the GM Joe Lilly is amazing! So here goes with our service today for their Easter service. We arrived 25 minutes before our reservation, not realizing that 2pm was the actual cutoff for the special. We were reminded not only by the host but also the waitress, and mind you, we still arrived at 1:35pm for the last 2pm sitting. Everything started off very well with the first and second course coming out in a reasonable time, however it went down from there. It took more than an hour, two hours from seating, to get our third course. Now before I get into the dismal and cold third course, let me go first to say, we asked for drinks, were told that beer,(MillerLite), tapped.....after not even having 20oz plastic cups because they were not ordered. So we still were waiting on drinks, silverware, and our third course, our waitress informs us that the "take out window" took precedence over us and it was our fault that we had such a late reservation! Now, reservations were from 10-2 and did not say that if you arrived 30" before your reservation you would be penalized with only receiving certain items from the menu! Our main course had the wrong sauces on the meats......they put the cherries on the beef, not the ham and vice versa. They did not give us the BBQ Panko encrusted potatoes, just the graten potatoes, once we showed the manager, he literally came back with a plastic container of panko and told us to put them on the potatoes ourselves!!! They did not give the shrimp and then asked if we "still really wanted it" after bringing the cold and dried out food! As we still requested regular menus from the manager, he became more arragant when I mentioned that my reservations were made by Joe Lilly. He preceded to tell us that "Joe Lilly made the menu and take it up with him" Absolute horrible service recovery! But the best is they changed the menu for today from what was advertised to every paying customer! Numerous changes but the best change to screw the consumer was that the upstairs Dessert bar was no longer existent and we were told because it was too busy! You false advertised, had staff that had no idea what we were even being served, food that was not even consumable but the worst was your manager and waitress made us feel like second class! I will continue to let everyone know on all socials how horrible Black Drum has become in such a short time! Shame on you Black Drum! read more

My second time eating here. Like the last time I was there during lunch and thought the food was really good. Just got the Cobb salad with grilled salmon. The reason I didn't give higher than a three stars is because of their dysfunctional operations. I was at the host stand with one other party and waited 10-15 minutes before we were helped but acknowledged by staff twice and ignored by the manager. Finally got seated and I waited 20 more minutes before being attended to by my waiter. Since I had plenty of time to review the menu I went on ahead and placed my order since everything else was moving slow. He brought my drink and then it was over 45minutes later when I got my salad. Mind you tables around me that were seated and orders placed after me got pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and salads with other proteins. Pleasantly surprised. I figured that this was going to be a typical "resort" dining experience, as it is on the grounds of the Hilton, Embassy, Royal Palms, etc.. where everything was just OK. We came here for dinner with friends on a Wednesday night. It was a great experience! Our server, Jocelyn, made us feel very welcome and provided excellent service. We sampled several different beers before deciding on our choice, and enjoyed the pork rinds and their special fries while considering our entrees. The prices seem a little high, but since it is in a resort that is kind of expected. I had the fish and felt the portion was about half of what I was expecting. No complaints about the service nor anything exceptional to report. I was part of a party of 5, one check. There was a forced gratuity on our check. I've never had a restaurant have a forced gratuity on a party of 5. I was honestly shocked by it. But here is the worst part of their forced gratuity. I was never informed about having a forced gratuity. I called and made reservations, no mention. When we arrived at the hostess stand, no mention. When the waitress took our order, no mention. When the waitress dropped off our check, no mention. I thought our bill looked higher than expected. I looked over it twice all the items looked right, I didn't notice the gratuity line on the itemized bill at first or second glance. I paid with credit card and when the copy came back for my signature there was another line for gratuity, still no mention of one already being included. I've been to plenty of restaurants with forced gratuities before (only for large parties) they are always clearly communicated. I think the way the Black Drum handles this seems to be fairly deceptive. If you decide to go make sure you look at your receipt closely. read more

One is a great experience with friendly staff and great food and the other is just filling up. Sydney was our server and was truly a delight. Okay so first of all...make a reservation-we had to watch a family of about 10 try to get in at 630. The grandfather ended up cursing out the poor hostess. It's Myrtle Beach in June-make a reservation. After getting over that display, we were seated outside(which it says on the site a reservation doesn't guarantee that). The view is fine, you're seeing a lot of people in the pool and in the far beyond is the ocean. If you want an ocean front view-The Sea Captains House is a way better choice. We had the pretzel app which was good. Then we split the Caesar salad and 1/2 rack of ribs w Mac and cheese and coleslaw. Portions were plentiful and the food was good. Not my favorite spot, but an okay spot at the beach. Also, we don't have kids-but if you do, it's a GREAT spot for kids and good value. For a couple, there are better spots. read more

Note. Seats stayed empty. Will tell you how I know. Waitress was great but food arrived haphazardly. Ribs were ordered by at least 3 folks and then were told 45 minutes later there were none left. One of the party never received her meal until we left 3 hours later. Two others had to reorder and wait to receive for 45 minutes. Back to my earlier comment. Still plenty of seating but meanwhile they wouldn't seat 6 in our group. The place has a great atmosphere and I feel like it can do well. But they need a lot of operational help.
