Was checking out the area and found this coffee shop. We didnt know what to order so we had some help from the baristas. We ended up ordering the honey drop latte, and the mocha. The baristas were very friendly and they knew what drinks to recommend. The atmosphere was cozy and allowed people to work on their laptops while enjoying their coffee. We will def come back with other friends/family members there were a couple of outdoor tables in the back and the front where we could bring our 125 lb labrador. Black Drop Coffee is a really cute spot with a great ambiance and plenty of seating, whether you're looking to chat or get some work done. The staff was both kind and patient. They offer a year-round menu along with seasonal specials; however, it seems there's a small gap during menu transitions, so I'd recommend calling ahead to see what's available before your visit. I missed the chance to try their seasonal menu, but I opted for a Mocha Latte, a Vanilla Bean Latte, and a Honey Drop Latte. The Mocha was definitely the favorite! They also have a nice variety of pastries, as well as some grab-and-go fruits and snacks. One small tip: make sure to scan the wall for the food menu. It isn't posted on the main board or at the counter, so we actually missed it at first since it was toward the back wall. Had a lovely cold brew with vanilla Bean Syrup and a touch of cream. The service was efficient and understanding. Love the aesthetic of the place! Free parking lot in the back and parking on the street. It's a great stop if you are in the area. They also have free Wi-Fi. The cold brew has a mocha flavor and isn't acidic. Medium roast. This independently owned cafe is in the heart of scotch plains downtown and serves one of the finest coffee in NJ. We had the pleasure of grabbing a few cuppas and snacks on a lazy afternoon. You can easily park street side either in front or the back side of the cafe. They have ample indoor and outdoor dining space, and social distancing norms and protocols are followed rigorously. Indoor are aesthetic and the vibe is pretty cool. If you want to work out of the cafe they have a designated area that is quiet. We were pleasantly greeted by the barista as we seek her advise on what are some of the featured drinks. We usually do our research before and were interested in lavender latte and vanilla bean latte. As far the food was concerned the avo toast is a must have along with the spinach and feta croissant. At this point we should just rank avocado toasts in and around central jersey. We ended up getting the vanilla bean latte, lavender latte and the nolita nectar. They have all milk options- from oat to almond. Vanilla bean latte made with home made vanilla syrup is a winner! It needs no sugar as the homemade vanilla syrup spread its magic. The nolita nectar is the cold brew that you would fall in love with. It has a hint of ginger along with peach and on top some bubbly! They have plenty of bottled drinks and treats for kids that will keep them busy. Ours loved their chocolate chunk cookie! A really nice, aesthetically pleasing coffee shop in downtown Scotch Plains. Upon arrival, the ambience didn't feel very warm and welcoming. I didn't feel like the baristas were very friendly. I ordered a small iced dirty chai latte and thought it was a bit pricey but tasted pretty good. I sat inside at one of their tables and a charger was easily accessible as I was getting work done. The outside seating came in handy because it got very busy and customers were often looking for an open seat. During the morning hours the coffee shop was very loud with people gathering to chat and interviews going on but it got quieter around 12/1 pm. Get: Spinach and Feta Croissant and their Vanilla Bean Latte Black Drop Coffee Shop is beautifully decorated. It has a very modern feel, black and white decor with greenery splashed here and there. Modern Famrhouse vibes. I love how much space is in this cafe, especially in these quarantimes! In the back of the cafe, there is huge farm table with beautiful succulents on it, perfect for getting that gram of your cup of coffee. I tried two popular lattes here: First up is the Vanilla bean latte - this one is FIRE. I love that you can actually see the vanilla bean in the latte. I get Vanilla Lattes from alot of cafes, but this one stands out! Secondly, I tried their lavendar latte - ever so slightly too much lavendar. I'm picky with my lavendar lattes this was defintely good but I'd choose the vanilla bean over the lavendar latte any day. Quote from my sister: "the lavender latte is good until you take a sip of the vanilla bean and then its garbage" (thats how good the vanilla bean is!). Get the spinach feta croissant! This is *chef's kiss*. I could easily eat 3 of these in one sitting. I need to come back and try their food offerings, definitely more than your average café with some intriguing options: Grapefruit poppy seed muffin?! Rosemary citrus scone? I got one more beverage for on the go: The salted hudson is good. Make sure you mixed that salted whipped cream with the cold brew beverage....makes a world of difference...but oh that salted whipped cream everything....i could down a whole tub of that. If I'm being picky, I wish there was a bit more natural light in here. But all in all a solid cafe and I will definitely be back! read more

This place has incredible coffee! I can be a particularly harsh critic when it comes my espresso drinks. I choose coffee shops that don't cater to the "starbucks lovers" of the world who know literally nothing about coffee and who think a macchiato is a large sugary drink with such hot milk that it burns your mouth upon sipping. My kind of coffee shop knows their way around a La Marzocco, has the most incredible roasts, had real passion for their coffee and their shop aesthetic, can dial in like a pro, and can steam microfoam to a perfectly drinkable temperature. This place checked all the boxes and recognize the importance of all the elements needed to pull perfect espresso. BTW they get their water from Italy. At Black Drop Coffee, I had a beautiful 2oz macchiato and a short cortado (no more than 3.5oz for this coffee aficionado TYVM) which featured a special Single Origin Honduras roast by Good Life coffee roasters and MAN was it delicious!!! Both coffees were delicious. My macchiato was smooth, rich (a darker roast for sure) and had subtle woody undertones. Reminded me a bit of the Hayes Valley espresso from Blue bottle. The Honduras was EXCEPTIONAL!! First sip was glowing with notes of blueberry!! So smooth, so incredible!! read more

I have visited this place for over a year, once or twice a week and always order the same thing, I was very satisfied with service and cafe untill today. I ordered iced latte with flavors, I believe a new staff made it hot one, I corrected it and got promised to remake. When I bring ice latte home (5min drive only) and have a sip now, it's definitely a ice coffee with milk, not a latte as espresso with milk. This is really disappointed as last weekend my drink was made hot (I always ordered iced one) , and it happened again today, and even I got a remade one still not correct. I guess I will give up weekend coffee round here and will be back on weekdays, weekdays staff is more professional, and make 100% great latte. read more

I heard about this place from a family member and decided to try it this morning. It's a brand new spot where Salon 4 used to be. We parked in the back lot and new immediately where it was because of the people sitting outside and chatting at little tables. We got 3 large drinks - 2 Salted Hudson and an Iced Chai - they were all amazing. The inside is so cute and aesthetic. There's also ample seating for when things return back to normal. Went in on a Saturday morning, which is probably their busiest time, since there is a very popular community farmers market right across the street every Saturday from May through October. There was *one* person behind the counter, making all the coffees, ringing the register, and doing everything else. The line of customers waiting around was long. I wasn't going to stand there for 20-30 minutes for a cup of coffee, so I am giving this establishment a neutral rating for lack of service. Try hiring some help and you won't lose customers. read more

Dropped in during the work week for a coffee and a quick breakfast. I ended staying a few hours to work since the environment was relaxing and calm to work in. I grabbed overnight oats topped with blueberries and an americano. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the coffee was fresh and oatmeal was great! In sum: I'd give negative stars if possible . If you are looking for a transparent, healthy, and informed coffee shop - this is not the place. I was traveling through and stopped at this establishment which advertises a matcha latte as a "wellness latte" which after a quick inquiry is in fact made from a powdered mix whereby sugar cane is the first ingredient. I asked how this can be considered wellness considering its link to obesity and diabetes and a widespread problem of sugar addition in the US, as well as sugar's place in the world as one of the most environmentally destructive crops in the world, and the owner just floated her credentials as a master's student in nutrition and said that it doesn't cancel out the benefits of matcha [which is not in fact the point - just because it does not cancel any benefit from matcha does not cancel out its own nutritional issues - and cane sugar is not a healthy food - do your own research]. Cane sugar serves populations , mostly in the global south, where food is scarce and it is part of a natural home garden- here in the US it's a key contributor to our wider dysfunctional health system that only benefits the elite. If you want to go to a coffee shop that health washes its products and only cares about profit then this place is for you. I know this won't change any minds but I implore folks to think for themselves and think critically, strive for your health and the health of everyone. I read more

Stopped by here to meet a friend while she was working. Nice little spot, with some cool & comfy looking leather chairs & table top seating. Very good desserts, I had their Oreo cookie (which was huge), as well as a double espresso, which was nice & strong. I was tryna be fancy, but they didn't have sparkling water, which to me is actually a bit weird for a coffee spot. I have never been to one that didn't. Overall a very nice local spot. I really like this place for its food and beverages, and the options they have for it all. However, something needs to be said about their attitude. The owner Melody has no regard for being kind to customers. The first instance is when there was a bee hive buried in one of the planters outdoors by the tables in back (couldn't see them until someone knocked into it and it caused a swarm). A friend and a delivery man got stung (he had to go to the hospital), and when the friend called to give them a heads up that there was a hive there, the only response was "you shouldn't have sat by a beehive". Shocked, my friend hung up, and I called to try to smooth things out but I was told the same thing and hung up on. Today, 4 of us were there and moved two small picnic tables next to each other in the shade (as the rest was in the glaring sun) so we could all have a seat. When we left, everything was clean, no garbage was left, but as we were walking to our cars Melody comes out with her hands on her hips and says "Um, when you guys leave, you need to put the tables back to where they were, so we don't have to do it". When I asked her where it went (I didn't move it), she didn't even know - her response was "Oh I'm not sure, over by the tree is fine." I moved it and the chairs (which are extremely lightweight) 4 feet away with her standing over me watching like a school teacher. There are other multiple examples of this and while it's really nice to have a coffee shop downtown, it's not worth it to go somewhere where there's attitude for no apparent reason. Long story short, if you want some good drinks and snacks, it's a good place, but don't get stung by a bee or move anything or you will get scolded like a child. There are at least 10 of us who are fed up and will be taking our money to Boxwood, Railside, or Track 5 from now on. read more

Finally scotch plains has a coffee shop! The drinks are awesome and lovingly crafted. This is the kind of coffee that scratches the "really good cup" itch. Seasonal drinks are rotated to keep things fresh. The pastries are all really good too. (shout out to that shortbread jammer!) Zero complaints, this is a quality spot. read more

We wanted to like it and hate leaving a bad review for a small business... but maybe this will help the owner. My husband ordered a coffee black and I had a decaf with almond milk. He said his tasted like "hot water" and mine tasted funny. If they told me it was a coffee substitute I would have believed it. Hot tree bark? Very bad coffee to say the least. When coffee is the focus of a business - have the best coffee you can find. Hope the owner takes this advice. We'll try again in a few months.
