Nice, pretty casual place with a good happy hour. You can tell the crowd leans towards neighbors, because the bartender knew about half the people who came in, which I love. Stopped in for some wine to pass time before meeting up with friends and I'm glad I did. If I ate oysters, I'd be intrigued by that deal too. read more

I love this place! I was just walking by and I stopped here because I was attracted to the dim lights and Christmas light decor. I felt welcomed, as soon as I walked through the door. Walked past this place earlier in the week and thought it looked so cute. When I was out last night, I remembered it and decided to pop in. It was our saviour because Nurse Betties and Lullaby's were already full. This place was mostly empty. Which sounds bad, but it was kind of the right mood. I think because it's so out of the way, it tends to be more chill on Friday. I will have to come back and see. The bar was even cuter at night. The gorgeous red lights and wood paneling. The staff was very chill, we sat ourselves and our waiter let us take our time deciding. We got the mint lemonade and the rabbit key. The mint lemo was too lemonade heavy for me. Tasted like Simply Lemonade lol. But the rabbit was pretty nice.(Missed my garnish tho!) I got some peppers too. They were quick and a nice snack. Definitely gonna get fries next time. I think their kitchen closes at midnight. We then moved onto the Cantina Tini was slapped. And then the Shi-Shi Le Le. Which slapped less but was pleasant. Throughout it all, the bar vibe was chill and warm. We were offered free mini frozen cocktail as a surprise! And I fucked up, they're delicious. Definitely will be back for the full thing. This place is really great. I was lamenting not finding some new spots. But this is definitely top of my list now. 15 dollar cocktails -- it's sad that it's now a good price, but I spent yesterday on 22 dollars a pop. Yeesh 20% grat it included in ALL tips which is interesting! I think that's why they can offer flat prices. We had such a great time we left even more. This place is awesome! We stumbled upon Black Crescent after a comedy show at Caveat. Good vibes, and the music was solid. They were playing a nice mix of retro 80s and 90s, classic rock, hip hop, etc. The owner is a cool guy named Reynolds, who knows how to make strong cocktails and incredible southern/ Texan bar food. All the bartenders I've met are cool and excellent at making drinks both on and off the menu. The best part of this place is the vibe. Black Crescent has withstood the pandemic and that alone is impressive. So many bars have closed in the past year and a half, particularly if they didn't have a solid dinner menu back when food was required to order drinks. It's a small, unassuming bar on Clinton St. that boasts a solid, approachable cocktail menu with some fun, seasonal stuff and some classics. Came here for a friend's birthday on Saturday night. I do think renting out the whole bar is an option if you're willing to drop some $$$$, but she just reserved a few hightop tables, which worked out pretty well. A ton of folks came through so her party probably occupied 75% of the bar at one point, but as long as we were paying I don't think the staff cared either way. We had already eaten dinner before arriving here, so we can't speak to the food, but I got to sample a bunch of drinks between me, my fiancé and some friends. My first drink was the Shi Shi-Le Le (Lemongrass, Gin, Fresh Lemon, Thai Basil, Mint), which was probably my favorite of the evening. I've always been a fan a fan of drinks that feature Thai and East Asian ingredients, in this one was perfectly balanced, herbaceous, savory and slightly sweet. The fiancé started with the Foux De Fa Fa (Herbs de Provonce, Fresh Lemon Suze, Gin), which was a yummy and refreshing gin highball. The Rabbit Key (Green Bell Pepper Gin, Fresh Lemon, Yellow Chartreuse, Honey) was probably the most polarizing drink of the evening (of the handful I tried), because bell pepper in a cocktail is not for everyone. Though I don't typically like green peppers in my food, I thought it worked beautifully in this drink, combining well with the botanicals of the chartreuse and the gin. The Amber Alert (Bourbon, Green Chartreuse, Cognac) is straightforward and boozy, but I surprisingly preferred it to the Black Crescent is Burning (House Blended Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, Bitters), despite the fact that I love Manhattans. I found the latter to be a bit watered down, but it's possible that particular drink just sat in the shaker with ice too long. If it's not obviously that I'm a mixology snob, well here you go, this is me stating it plainly. Black Crescent is a great spot for an initial foray into cocktails, providing approachable drinks with a clear knowledge of technique. The bartenders are kind and efficient, and the vibe is fun without being insane in that typical Lower East Side way. read more

I'm going to say two things here to start off: Buy the empanadas. I don't even want to show y'all a photo of them so you can be surprised yourself. My first time here -- and I ordered 3. I ate 2 1/2 of them, my girl ate the other 1/2. Had the house Whisky, Maple bacon bowl and some fun and tasty amalgamation of liquor alchemy to create a custom green tea shot. No TVs, good lighting, great drinks, and a damn wizard at the fryer in back. So an excellent date spot, hangout, or meeting place. When you look at the menu here, it looks fairly standard-- what you don't know until you go in and order something is that everything is prepared to super high standards. So if you want some brilliant fried shrimp, get the bang bang shrimp. The waffle fries are delightful. And whatever drink I've gotten has been super good. Now granted, intent to drop by for happy hour and other non-busy times, but the staff here is always friendly and pleasant. It's one of my neighborhood go-tos. This is a great bar in the LES. It's local, cozy and a good spot to stop in for a casual drink on a date or with a small group of friends (I'd probably limit it to about 4 people in my group.) I've been meaning give Black Crescent a write up for years, and I've been here before for cocktails which I've always enjoyed but never had a substantial enough experience to write a review. I remember reading about the fire, and was happy to see them re-open with a fire pun-named drink on the menu- a dark sense of humor is always endearing. I was heading to Caveat for a show and needed something quick and nearby. They were still doing their happy hour menu and the place had only one other party there besides myself on a Sunday at 6pm. The cocktail, as usual, was fantastic. I ordered the El Burro: Mezcal, lime, cilantro, with coriander salt. It's strong, with a balanced kick, and refreshing, highly recommend it. That coriander salt is delicious. I also ordered oysters, Parmesan garlic chicken wings, and a deep fried shrimp item that comes with a light aioli over it. The food was solid, above average bar munchies and the oysters were fresh. The main draw are the cocktails, they get 4 stars themselves. And at least on this day, they were playing excellent dad rock: Billy Joel, Steely Dan, Psycho Killer. Perfect for catching a Sunday buzz. The only real thing that kinda rubs me wrong are the bartenders. I've seen a few people mention this, they're standoffish at best. Conversations happen begrudgingly, if at all. Someone, who I think may have been a manager or owner, was also in that day and he was super friendly and outgoing, chatting with me about the menu items and making jokes about whatever. Maybe he just steals the thunder when he's in the room ;) but if multiple reviews are mentioning it, it might be something to pay attention to. read more

Stumbled across this lowkey spot while having happy hour drinks in the LES. Person I was with had been there before and raved about it so we went to grab some drinks. I love how dimly lit the bar is, which makes it a perfect date night spot or even just chill place to grab a few drinks and chat with a friend. They have a few different cocktails on the menu that sound tasty, and also a decent selection of beer. I went with a beer from the menu (name forgotten), but it was pretty good and the waitress constantly came back by to check on us. I can reiterate how much I like the chill ambience of this place, compared to the mayhem you get at other LES bars in the area. I'd definitely come back. read more

My wife and I were looking for a casual, relaxing place to enjoy some good cocktails and hopefully some decent food, and Black Crescent went above and beyond our expectations. In my experience it's not easy to find a decent cocktail, even in Manhattan, and the ones we got here were well above average -- perfect, actually. But what really surprised us was the food. While the menu seems to be an unassuming list of usual pub fare (a burger, a chicken sandwich, a hot dog...) the preparation was fantastic. The spicy fried shrimp was so perfectly done; light and crispy, not a hint of greasiness, with an excellent spicy cream sauce, and sprinkled with freshly chopped scallions. Delicious! And the smash burger was equally good. On top of all this, we were served by the owner Reynolds himself, who, as many others have pointed out here, is just a complete pleasure and all-around good guy. He really took great care of us. This bar embraces cool themes and has decently tasty food/drinks but they seriously need to work on their service. The burger isn't anything fancy but it transports you back to summer bbq days when the meat juices are drippy. You can choose to add fries on the side for $6 or order a bowl of them for like $8. It's such a rip to get the side because they only give you 6-7 waffle fries. Modern day robbery if you ask me. But I was hungry so I was still happy. Unfortunately, the bartenders here are super standoffish and are only friendly with their colleagues/friends, some of whom were sitting at the bar chatting, on laptops etc. That's fine, I get it, but one of the bartenders rushed our group of four to leave to make room for others, so I had to quickly pay my tab... Been going here on and off for a couple of years and I'm so glad it's still going strong during these 'effing hard times. It's a proper NYC bar with a strange elegance that I cant quite put my finger on. The vibe is great and I've met so many interesting people here - it really attracts a great crowd (which my cynical brain says is becoming harder and harder to find in this mad city). The consistency of the bartenders is actually pretty fantastic. Doesn't matter what night I've been, they all seem to know the a thing or two and being a bit of a snob when it comes to cocktails, I like to feel humbled when I'm spending my hard/easy earned money on drinks. There is an air of friendliness that is impossible to ignore and it actually seems genuine. I imagine post covid it's going to be nuts again so maybe I shouldnt be recommending people coming here as it'll be harder to get a seat at the bar but now I live local I want to see the good bars survive.
