While the area is a bit small, any minor inconvenience quickly fades into the background once you see the fantastic views of the lake. My wife and daughter ordered the pasta carbonara, and my son decided on the chicken and shrimp over linguini. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I ordered the veal parmesan with angel hair pasta--truth be told, the pasta was a bit overdone, but the veal itself was tasty, as was the marinara sauce. Service was great from start to finish--attentive and accompanied by a smile. Very standard American restaurant with a good variety of dishes. We had the calamari, shrimp and scallops penne pasta, and salmon here, and everything was very decent. I'd actually say my favorite dish was their homemade bread with garlic dipping sauce, it was absolutely delicious. We were able to get a seat at the outside patio overlooking the lake which was great. My family and I dined here as a group of ten (along with some squabbling babies in tow), and the staff was incredibly accommodating. Getting a table at the far side of the restaurant, with perfect views of the lake, felt like winning the lottery. The menu has a diner-like variety and the food is decent. The burgers were the clear favorite. It was ordered by most of our party, and it's pretty stacked with veggies, bacon, AND two sausage slices (a random topping, but who's going to complain about more processed protein? Not me!). Anyone who ordered fries at the table had to endure sharing with those who didn't because they arrived irresistibly hot and fresh. A few things fell just a little flat. The mozzarella wrap was a little plain and bland, and someone who ordered the French onion soup ended up scraping most of the cheese layer off, pronouncing it to be just 'a little too much'. But throughout our meal, service was polite and responsive, making it a great spot to grab a bite in spite of the few meal falls. The views are likely the best part of dining here, especially if you're lucky enough to snag a spot closest to the waterfront views. We were too large a group to take advantage, but if you're a smaller party and the weather's favorable, I'd definitely ask about getting a seat up on the second floor patio where I'd bet the view of Mirror Lake would be even more stunning. read more

I wanted to love this place but just can't get pass the food. I give two stars because it seems like a nice family owned business. I sat at the bar and the bartender gave us great service. The ambiance of the place is also nice and has a cost feel. When it comes to the food, we had the black bear Chicken pasta dish that had absolutely no flavor. Had to drown the dish with Leon and salt and that could not even help it. We also had the fried haddock with fries. The breading was very bland and again, lemon and the tartar sauce so. It help much. We made reservations (by phone--there was no internet where we were) and they appeared reluctant to take it and then when we showed up there was no table--and despite my asking, didn't seat us outside--we were a table of 3 so we fell in the cracks between table for 2 (which appeared to be most of the tables outside) and like 8-12 inside. When I ask what you've got for Cabernet and you show me a large format bottle with about 4 oz in it. All set!! So now we're trapped...you want some sort of fish? Well, we've got "fish", "fried fish" and "seafood". But where's the veal parm? Under the chicken section. Duh!! We also have "pastas" and "sauces". So listen, we're here, we'll get an appy. My wife and I truly enjoyed our dinner here. Wife had a Ribeye and I had the strip. Both cooked appropriately. Simple side with each getting a baked potato. Simple but tasty. The cut of meat was better than average (forgive me, Idk prime bs wet/dry aged or whatever). I just know tasty. Water and bread upon sitting. Nothing to write home about but it was prompt. It was an early dinner so the place was quiet and service was attentive. For us, this was the best dinner we've had in Lake Placid. Our first time in lake placid and we came here after a long hike, our family of 5 we asked to be seated outside and they were happy to accommodate us. Our server was very kind that my kids started cleaning the plates and helping clear the table to make it easier for him! When we asked about sitting near the window, as the view offered was a large reason we chose here, we were told it was unavailable. There were only 2-3 tables of people, but okay... I'm not one to make a scene. The Poutine served was an atrocity to the name. Given our proximity to Canada, and the amount of traffic this town sees from Canada, I'd think poutine is something you'd nail. Shredded cheese? WTF We had the bacon, mushroom, Swiss burger. Last night I had the Lobster Ravioli with shrimp and it was phenomenal. Along w a white cream sauce it also had mushrooms, roasted tomato, baby asparagus and artichokes. The shrimp were cooked lightly which is my preference and the ravioli was just perfect. All the other vegetables in the cream sauce were done to perfection. The sauce had a very homemade taste which was extra appealing. The whole order came with warm, homemade bread and garden salad. The service was terrific, they made you feel like family. If I had one "complaint" it's that I couldn't figure out the "vibe" of the restaurant.
