While staying in Lake Placid I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night, getting there around 6PM, they had a decent amount of people sat inside and on their back deck. I sat on the back deck, overlooking Mirror Lake and it was beautiful, especially in the summer evening. Menu is simple Italian with all the normal, popular Italian dishes, nothing really unique, but plenty of delicious options. I started with their meatball appetizer - They were very nice! The order comes with two huge meatballs that are very tender and nicely seasoned. The sauce was slightly light in flavor and not as thick as I would have liked, but still pretty good. Their table bread they brought out with it came with a very tasty olive oil that was seasoned with garlic and herbs. The bread was served warmed, slightly toasted and was great. Next up was their basic starter salad - this was pretty nice too. Dressing was good and veggies were fresh. My entrée was their Rigatoni Ala Vodka - This was really good. The flavors were perfect and the pasta was perfectly al dente. Overall, I thought dinner was great. Service was excellent and attentive too. Definitely would return, especially if I could sit on that back deck!! read more

I would highly recommend Jimmy's 21 for lunch or dinner! Holy gluten free pasta! They have rigatoni gluten free pasta which I actually liked just as much as their homemade pasta (not GF unfortunately). They have indoor and outdoor seating wi the a beautiful view of the lake. The seating is broken up into sections and we sat on the porch which made for a quieter and more romantic dining experience. Staff was very try nice and helpful especially with allergies. My friend and I were in Lake Placid for a couple of days and we stopped here for dinner. The vibe and ambiance of the place was very welcoming. A couple of our friends had shared that this was their favorite place to eat. I can see why. My friend and I sat at the bar. Both bartenders who were on that night were fantastic. They went above and beyond with their service. I have some unique food allergies and they were able to accommodate my dietary needs. I ended up getting the Chicken Alfredo Fettuccine. July 2025: My husband and I were visiting the Adirondacks area and were walking the downtown strip in Lake Placid looking for a place to have dinner. My husband walked into Jimmy's and asked a gentleman working there if they had any reservations open. The place was PACKED on a Tuesday night. The man responded, "when do you want to come in?" My husband said "in 40 minutes?" The man responded, "see you at 7!" Turns out, the man was none other than Jimmy himself! We were seated at a table on the patio overlooking beautiful Mirror Lake. I was told if we were going to Lake Placid Jimmy's was an absolute must. I was disappointed as the only reservation they had for us was 4:30 PM but friends assured me it would was worth it. It takes three things to make an incredible dining experience; atmosphere, food and service. Jimmy had those in spades. We sat on the main level on an outside deck that had nothing but two tops on it. Our server Mikel (sp?) was absolutely amazing. Attentive, friendly and set the pace for a wonderful dining experience. He truly is at the top of his game and made the evening even that more special. Both of our entrées, the surf and turf and a New York strip were absolutely incredible. They were cooked to perfection and the asparagus was amazing. We even made room for an incredible crème brûlée and tiramisu. HIGHLY recommend you save room for these delights. The only downfall of the evening was the fried calamari's close relative was a Goodyear tire!! Very chewy and overcooked. Which is the only reason we gave the restaurant four stars instead of five. Other than that it was an incredible experience and we look forward to returning soon. read more

My mom and I came here on a Friday evening for an early dinner. The view is wonderful. Service was extremely slow. We ordered our meals while still waiting for our drinks since it was taking a long time. The server never returned to check on us after our dinners were served. It's a nice location on Mirror lake, we sat outside enjoying the view. The dishes we ordered, however, were underwhelming. The pasta vodka was fine, but honestly nothing special at all and arrived not hot and with pasta too soft. The lobster ravioli were disappointing, felt not fresh, and honestly not tasty, for me. The under average taste and quality of food does not justify the high price range. We did expect more. Came here on a Friday evening later around 9 pm. The workers were very kind. The inside is pretty and would have a nice view on the lake during the day. I ordered the French onion soup and fettuccini Alfredo. They were both good but nothing crazy. I thought the fettuccini Alfredo was a little overpriced at $23 with no protein at all. As much as I wanted to be "wowed" by this authentic old school Italian restaurant, it didn't quite do it for me. The service was good and we enjoyed sitting outdoors overlooking Mirror Lake. Both ordered Caesar salad which came as a half portion and was the perfect size with a nice creamy dressing. We ordered veal Marsala with linguine and the duck ala orange. Both were good but not the best we've had. Duck was crispy but on the dry side and the orange sauce didn't really come through. Veal was ho-hum; I've made better at home! The bread service came with a nice garlicky dipping oil but again, not the best Italian loaf I've ever had. Prob most annoying was the speaker at the front door blasting away about how wonderful the food is to passers by on the sidewalk. Maybe the steaks were the way to go, or even the lasagne, but if I ever return I'd scope out a local pizzeria or similar. Prices were also really high. This is one of those restaurants you don't go to for the food. I'll start with the good; overall vibes were nice. We sat on the terrace with a nice view of Mirror Lake. Service was fast, and our server was nice. The food was pretty awful unfortunately. We got chicken marsala and lasagna. The chicken marsala was way too sweet, the chicken was too chewy, and the pasta was overcooked. The lasagna was tiny and obviously frozen and reheated. Even the bread we were served was not great. It was swimming in a butter wine garlic sauce to the point you could not even taste the difference between the seafoods. What a good quality and family oriented/vibe Italian Restaurant. I highly recommend calling for a reservation due to how quickly the seats get filled and I understand why it's busy. The food tastes fresh and made with care. Their Burrata was the best thing I tasted since the last time I've been to Italy. If you are a big fan of ravioli and lobster, please get the lobster ravioli as it as delicious and melted like butter especially that sauce...exquisite. They gluten free pasta available that was incorporated with the bolognese sauce was literally one of the best bolognese we had in a long time. We had a great meal at Jimmy's 21! The location right on the lake is beautiful, with lovely views if you sit out on the patio or near the windows. The menu has a wide variety of Italian favorites--our table especially loved the chicken parm and rigatoni a la Vodka. Disappointed. Have gone several times through the years and the only thing that we find to be consistent is the service is WONDERFUL across the board and the bread is always delicious. Most recent visit on 11/29/25; for entrees we ordered the special, which was supposed to be filet mignon & crab cake. The crab cake was pretty good, the *Meat* was definitely NOT filet mignon. We got seated by the back window with a heater next to my very cold feet and a view with of dog sled taking people for rides; it was so charming. This restaurant is terrible! My friends and I were visiting with 5 kids, all around 8 years old, and we waited for 2 hours without getting our main courses! The manager claimed we didn't make a reservation, but we actually did, just not in advance. If they take reservations, they should be able to handle serving a party of 16, or at least warn us that we'd have to wait over an hour for our food. We arrived on time at 5:30 PM, and by 7:30 PM, still no main courses! The manager was awful, and I seriously suspect racial discrimination. The table next to us turned over twice while we barely got appetizers and drinks. This place gets a 1-star review, and I absolutely do not recommend at all!! The manger terrible! What a disappointment. First off the drinks, at a high-end place like this you would think they could squeeze some lemons for a whiskey sour, instead we got a premade mix. The sauce was not too sweet or salty, just right. Then off menu and they were happy to accommodate. The staff were warm, friendly and there to serve.
