What a disappointment I had with this place this morning I've been here a few times over the years and it was always good.. To start the service was terrible we had no utensils certain dishes not brought out.. the steak was chewy . I ordered sourdough and what they served was the cheapest sliced bread and when I asked what kind of bread is this she said sourdough I said this is not sourdough this is cheap bread toasted so she brought me out a biscuit that was terrible.. as well Over all just terrible I won't be coming back fur sure .. read more

After a day in San Francisco, we stopped at Black Bear Diner on the drive home looking for some good old-fashioned comfort food, and it definitely delivered on that front. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was how cold it was inside. And when I say cold, I mean you could hang meat in there cold. Everyone was bundled up, and I mean everyone. I'm usually the person who runs warm and prefers the AC cranked up, but it was so chilly that my nose was actually running by the end of the meal. Thankfully, the food made up for it. My folks both ordered one of the smaller breakfast options, I believe it was the "lighter side" breakfast, which ended up being the perfect size for them. I went with the chorizo scramble, one of my longtime favorites, and of course ordered a side of sour cream because for me that's non-negotiable with chorizo. Everything came out hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The service was phenomenal from start to finish. Our server was attentive, friendly, and kept everything moving smoothly even though the restaurant was fairly busy. Honestly, if they had bumped the thermostat up just a few degrees, this would have been a perfect visit. Helpful tip: If you're sensitive to cold temperatures, bring a sweater. Seriously. You might thank me later. Cold dining room aside, the food was exactly the comfort meal we were craving after a long day, and the service was excellent. Honestly, this was a horrible experience. We walked in and told the waiter right away that I didn't want to sit in the sun, and somehow we ended up in a booth with the sun blasting right on us anyway. We moved to a better spot after he walked away. We ordered a michelada and a flight of mimosas. The mimosas were actually killer, so I'll give them credit for that. She got her house salad, and then I was handed a michelada that was honestly terrible. The worst part was trying to get the waiter's attention. I tried flagging him down, he made eye contact with me and started toward our table, then suddenly decided to help another group instead. After that, he spent the next 10 minutes avoiding our table and wouldn't even make eye contact. At that point, we just left. When you're sitting there trying to get service and the person serving you is actively avoiding your table, there's really no reason to stick around. Our server Sharon was very attentive and catering towards our group. We were 6 people, and she got all of our order correct, and went above and beyond for us. I ordered the avocado chicken club and she suggested me to get the garlic parm bread, and it was an amazing recommendation. It was really yummy. My boyfriend also got the Bobs burger (the 10lb) one, and he made modifications to it and she was so nice towards all of his requests. I was really disappointed with my experience at Black Bear Diner. Our server seemed much more focused on talking with her "regulars" and having conversations about her son's football than paying attention to her other tables. I came in with my daughter, and throughout our visit she was extremely inattentive to us. What stood out the most was that she appeared to be much more attentive and engaged with the men at other tables than she was with women. She would spend time talking with them and making sure they were taken care of, while we felt overlooked and had to wait for attention. It honestly made me question why we were receiving such different service. Every customer deserves to feel acknowledged and properly attended to, regardless of their gender. Honestly the worst meal I have had in a while. I got the corned beef hash with biscuits and gravy. The corn beef was gross and sweet for some reason and completely un-seasoned. Even my dog wouldnt eat it as it smelled so off. How the hell do you not use salt with corned beef?, the biscuits were bland, dry as all hell. Hash browns hardly cooked let alone crispy, no seasoning whatsoever on eggs either. Apparently salt is too expensive to use at this establishment. Won't be going back. My wife's first time. We came to this location after church. My wife has never been to a Black Bear Diner. For me this was my second time (First time was in San Jose). I just remember the portions being HUGE. And they still are! My wife had an omelette with whites and a biscuit. The biscuit was unbelievably fluffy. It was amazing! I had the cinnamon roll French toast (pictured). Every bit was just as good as the next! Now all the food at this location was perfect. Let's talk about the service... Our server was Jocelyn. My husband and I went to Black Bear this last Saturday and had a fantastic experience. We are somewhat regulars here for dinner and always enjoy ourselves. This time, we had a server who was new to us - Jason. He was full of humor, pleasantries, and quick and attentive service! When the kitchen made an error and our food got skipped, he came out, was honest with us, apologized, and got our food quickly. He then offered us a free dessert to make up for it! In general it's okay. However how today's breakfast was handled was pretty poor. We took my husband here for Father's day. Our expectations weren't high because we know how busy it is. However we do expect that food is COOKED properly. My husband ordered the Father's day hamburger or some stupid big one. He started eating it and I told him babe that looks really pink still. He ate a few more bites and said he wasn't worried. Then he actually looked at it and took the burger apart. It was completely uncooked on the other side! He had ordered biscuits w gravy so he just ate that. When called the server over and showed her there was no offer to remake (which we would have declined, however it should have been offered). She said she'd tell her manager. She came back with the bill and said he took 60% of the burger off the bill. Which really made me twitch a little. As someone that has worked in the service industry for years and in several management positions, that item in its entirety should have been removed from the bill. I wasn't paying the bill as my mother in law snagged it and neither her nor my husband like to make a fuss. 2 star because the server was nice and the rest of the food was as expected from this diner. My wife and I came here on a Saturday Morning around 8:30am for breakfast. It's been a few years since we last came to Black Bear. We were great and seated fairly quickly. The restaurant is a lot bigger than how it looks on the outside, so there was plenty of seating. The decor was rustic with a woodsy cabin feel. Our server was very attentive and checked up on us frequently which does not happen at most restaurants now days (service was not lacking here). What's even better than the service is the food. I'm not sure why I don't come more often as they have always had good food with large portions at a decent price (even with inflation). I got the Fajita Omelette which was very big and loaded with strips of beef, diced onions and bell peppers. The Fajita Omelette also came with a choice of side (I chose hash browns) and choice of bread (I chose sliced wheat bread). My wife got the Bear's Choice Breakfast: 2 Eggs (over easy), Bacon & Sweet Cream Waffle. Both our meals tasted great and we had some leftovers to take home. The last time we were here I had their prime rib on Mother's Day one year and it was one of the best prime ribs, I've had and it was cheap. I hope they run a prime rib special soon as I will definitely be back for that. read more

One of the best diners in Vacaville. We eat here from time to time when we want something good!! My usual go-to is the Bacon Cheeseburger Salad. My husband usually gets a burger or breakfast. We are always shocked by the amount of food we are served. It's plentiful and good. Even a small platter is tons of food. My husband swears by the Big Poppa Burger.
