The Original ScramBOWL (1560 cals.) (no potatoes or biscuit and gravy)
Rebekah A.

To be honest, you kinda know what to expect when you come here. For the most part the food will be passable, service is always hit or miss. To summarize our most recent experience quickly: - seated promptly - drink orders taken promptly. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and it was delivered with pink lemonade. Probably would've passed on a drink if I knew. - orders taken promptly - food arrived fast but no one asked if we needed sauce for the kids chicken tenders, and they forgot my husbands salad. - server didn't check on us for quite some time once food hit, and only the one time. Given we had a toddler we sure could've used a few extra napkins. Food: - Requested our potatoes and hashbrowns well done this time since last time we came they were soggy and had no crisp. They delivered. - I ordered my eggs over medium, they were definitely over easy. - husbands steak temp was correct - kids meal chicken tenders didn't have much color and could've been cooked a little longer for our preference, but were fully cooked through. It was a so/so experience overall. Some hiccups, some things done well. The place seemed clean overall, but being that I'm nearing the end of pregnancy my senses are heightened. I didn't go in, but I think the bathrooms were in rough shape. It kinda smelt like sewage in the waiting area which the bathrooms are attached to. It was also pretty warm inside, atleast where we were seated. I could see the wall thermostat saying it was 77. Perhaps warmer than that given we were seated near the kitchen.

Wow has this place gone down hill! What a shame! Not only was the potatoes soggy and gross (when I asked for them crispy) the egg wasn't cooked right and the pancakes had a facial hair cooked into them! So gross, I couldn't even think of a replacement. The host also had an attitude for no reason. Don't think I'll be going back anytime soon! Yuck!

It's been a while since I've done a review here but have been back many times. Went on a Friday morning around 9:30am and no wait to be seated, I've always loved the decor- comfy rustic with bears! Service is consistently great and the employees seem to all enjoy working there. Our server checked on us often and was super friendly. I tried the Southern Scramble which was good but I would order it with the mild next time. The hot wasn't hot to me at all, but the taste wasn't as good as the mild, which I've had. The country gravy is delish over the yummy biscuits and eggs. I'm sure I'll be back soon, on my next trip to the area.

When it comes to breakfast/brunch, I am fairly easy to please, give me lots of good quality food and I am happy! The Bear gave me lots of this and more!!! When we drove into Tracy, CA, the Black Bear diner was the first thing we saw. It looked a little funky and we all laughed. The next morning my brother in law took me to the bear and I commented that I saw it last night. He said it was like a Denny's or IHOP. No way! As soon as I walked in, I saw the pastries and the entire place had a bear vibe! The service was excellent and they had a newspaper-like menu which I immediately spilled water on and to my surprise they took the menu back afterwards. I would have thought it was disposable. In any case after asking about grits and the texture (think soggy oatmeal - overcooked), I was going to order chicken fried steak and grits, I heard every ordering steak and eggs (the special). Well, in a last minute change I got the ribeye steak and eggs and GLAD I DID! WOW, the plate came with 3 eggs, ribeye steak, hash browns and a pancake! First off the steak was seasoned well. I mean when I travel people order steak everywhere and it's a sad sight to see how badly different places cook steak and how little they season. But the Bear came through. This steak was delicious!!!!!! The eggs cooked perfectly, the hash browns crispy and after all of that, the pancake tasted GREAT! I mean I ate it all and didn't have to eat anything for the rest of the day until something like 11:30p at night. I was raving about how good it was. My brother in law said it was OK but no. After eating at all kinds of lackluster places the Bear kicked "you know what". SO GOOD! I really wanted to order some bakery take out but my brother in law was footing the bill so you know..... What can I say? The Bear delivers! I'd like to go again!!!!

We came in on a today evening and it was very slow. We still waited for awhile as we were ignored to be seated. Finally one of the ladies that was chatting with a server seated us after I flagged her. We ordered and when our fuss came the order was wrong, we had ordered bacon and recovered sausage. The server took the sausages with a fork off of my hubbies plate which was odd. Also the hash browns tasted like rancid oil. He ordered country potatoes well done. They came out very not done, so had to send those back to be crisped. The server acted a bit irritated. I ordered a chicken pot pie, which was really bland and gooey inside. Don't order, not worth the calories. I didn't eat that much of it and had no desire to take it home. Really disappointed in the food and service, won't be back! I give two states as the rest of the meal: ie, eggs, French toast and salad was fine.

The Black Bear Diner is our go to place to tack our twin toddlers out to eat. They LOVE seeing all the bears throughout the restaurant. The food is always good, the service is fast and efficient, and the restaurant is comfortable and clean. Nestor is the manager and always stops by our table to say hi and make sure everything is perfect. Thank you to Nestor and his team for always going above and beyond to give us a great experience!

First time eating here with my family. Absolutely delicious! Hubby had the country fried steak. It was so good especially with the country gravy I had the Chicken Sausage scramble and it was delicious. So fulfilling and seasoned perfectly. Our server was kind. Definitely a family friendly restaurant. I'll have to return for dinner

A COCKROACH

Well well well...there a LIVE COCKROACH in the taco salad bowl, All tho there was great customer service, bad food service, manager didn't even care to give all of us free food because who knows how many more of those things have been in our food....

Biscuits and a smear of no flavor gravy

Whenever I am close to a Black Bear all I can think about is "biscuits and gravy"...this particular location was such a disappointment, the eggs were not completely cooked, potatoes were hard, NO flavor in the gravy and barely covered the top of biscuits and the atmosphere music was so loud we could not even hear our server. We have visited many a "Black Bear" and this our 1st not so good one.

Exceptional service. I've eaten at over a dozen BBD throughout CA and western states. This is one of my favorites. Consistently serves up great food and unmatched service.

GREAT breakfast spot! Service: Staff were really attentive and kind. Daniel was our waiter who gave us amazing service, refilling my husband's coffee and was overall very kind. Food: HUGE menu with a variety of options and filling portion sizes. Highly recommend the sweet cream pancakes regardless of what you order. They were hands down the best pancakes I've ever had. Overall great spot and very family friendly!

Fantastic Breakfast!

The service was very good, friendly, took care of us the whole time. Food, I honestly thought we were gonna get old, cold or bad food. It is the best food I have had in a long time. Sampler, soo much food, fresh and crisp. Chicken fried steak & sides were delish, the best gravy we've had. I got the mushroom burger, very flavorful! I'm not just saying it to say. I'm so glad we took a chance. ‍‍‍‍

I found it on Yelp otherwise I would have never known it existed. All the food was good and freshly cooked. The sampler was all yummy with the ranch dipping sauce that has imitation bacon I was told ( because I dont eat pork). I loved the fish and chips. They provided amply amount of tarter sauce. I was using as much as I could on each dip and was still left with tarter sauce at the end. The fries are unique and extremely crispy and different. I loved them. Never had fries like that before, truly unique. Can't wait to try more stuff on tje menu. Pro tip: they close earlier than usual on Sunday so come early on that day. We arrived at closing time but they was nice enough to let is sit down and order.

The restaurant was decorated in the style of a pub. Our server was very pleasant and answered our questions about the menu. We tried the chips and queso for starters. The cheese was very creamy and tasty. For our main course my wife ordered the Cajun pasta. She really liked the spices in it. I had the garlic shrimp pasta which I found creamy and flavorful. The portions were generous; we even took some home! I will definitely check out some of their other menu items when I'm in the area again. Thanks Upper Room !

Everything looks the same and the same friendly atmosphere resides. Service is always awesome, and so is the food. This time we both chose the fish and chips lunch which includes 3 good sized pieces of batter dipped fish, and perfectly crispy fries. It was all great. Prior visit - This is a great little place to be for a meal. Totally unassuming from the street and even when you walk up, as it is in a small strip business center off of 11th Street. When I walked in for lunch, I was immediately greeted by a guy behind the bar (which is right at the door) with a smile. I proceeded upstairs to the clean and comfortable 'loft' and grabbed a table along the window so I could see out. The interior is clean and simple, open first floor to second floor ceiling. Great music playing, and just a nice vibe all the way around. Andrea, came by with a smile and greeting, asked if I had any questions, and headed off with my order. I didn't get the bartender's name, but he was just as attentive and super nice, as he came upstairs to my table and described some of the beers he currently has available. Small batch craft beers are good. . . Food: The menu is not so 'typical' as you get to select your protein, the sauce or spice for that protein, then your carb, and your veggie (or make it a salad). Nice choices too. My chicken with Korean BBQ sauce, beer batter fries and grilled Brussels sprouts was good, especially the sprouts. My chicken was on the dry side, but I have a feeling it may have been due to the fact they were managing a party of 15 as well as all the other patrons while I was there. A bit hectic for two people to keep up that pace. I definitely recommend coming to the Upper Room.
