Tender with a nice chew. The chicken had a great smokiness. The brisket was a little disappointing as it was really dry. It definitely needed more fat. Glad we also got the tritip as I'm more a beef kinda girl. The fish was good. Nicely fried. I enjoyed the catfish over the tilapia since the pieces were meatier. The hubs seemed to enjoy the pulled pork sando when he added coleslaw. It was kinda plain otherwise. We both really liked the potato salad. Very flavorful. Would skip the green beans as they didn't taste like much. And the spaghetti was just a pile of mush. Their bbq sauce is on the sweeter side for me, so we mixed it with hot sauce when using. Very disappointed. I read such great reviews and was excited to try Shorters but it definitely was not a great experience. First the good: the price and the quantity. You get a good amount of food for less than $20. We all know food prices have skyrocketed but this isn't a bad deal for the amount. The bad: the tri tip was offered with sauce on top or sauce on the side and I should've said on the side. As someone who loves bbq sauce I was not expecting this sauce to be so bad. It ruined the food for me. It was so overwhelming with some kind of spice in the realm of nutmeg, clove or some other spice that is typically in a spice cake. I tried to scrape off as much as I could but the meat was swimming in the sauce. The red beans and rice were literally that. White rice with a scoop of beans on top. Not the typical Louisiana red beans and rice I'm used to that are more akin to a soupy consistency. The bbq spaghetti was also a no go for me as it was that punch in the face of spice from the bbq sauce. I could barely eat half of my plate and not because I was full. This barbeque could prevent family arguments about what the next meal should be. Maybe it's the sauce! The brisket we got was cooked perfectly, not dry but smoked to perfect texture. The ribes had good texture as well, but I did wonder if they could have been cut short a little bit. Parts were left tough and chewy. Not a big deal, still much better than lots of places. The sides were delicious, the portions did leave me wanting more though. The spot is in the bowling alley, might not be the best family dinning experience, but it's perfect for pick up. Calling out bbq lovers! Try out Shorter's if you want some delicious bbq! We bought the 3 meat (tri tip, ribs and brisket) plate! It came with the sauce in the side (requested). This is a great spot and it's right next to the Tracy Bowling Alley. The barbecue was yummy and tender. I didn't have a hard time chewing the bbq and it comes with your choice of 2 small sides. I chose the green beans and mac n cheese! I liked how both sides were full of flavor. The green beans were not too soggy and the mac and cheese didn't taste like the microwavable ones either! So good! I would say our plate can feed 2 people, but we still had leftovers! They also have other options of meat and different plates! If there is one thing that I hate, is the regular bowling alley food; hotdogs, pizza, mozzarella sticks, etc... I was excited to find that at West Valley Bowling, there is a restaurant that serves good food at an affordable price. I ordered the 2 piece fish and fries, substituted the fries for potato salad. Everything was good. You could tell the fish was fresh not frozen. If I bowled at West Valley Bowling for league, I would eat there all the time. There was an incident in the parking lot that made me upset. Was sitting in my car and the employee that I saw grilling the food outside, hit my car with trash cans TWICE, both times I felt my car move. He knew someone was sitting in the car, it was turned on with my radio on. The 2nd time, he looked me dead in my face. Didn't say sorry. He never came back to say sorry. I was very upset. Luckily there was no damage to my car. So... just be mindful about parking on the restaurant side. My food experience was 4 stars. Factoring in my employee experience, brings the experience to a 3. Apart from the employee bumping my car, when I was waiting for my order to be taken, my perception was that there were people doing nothing behind the counter, while there were customers needing help or orders needed to be taken (I'm not talking about the young lady that took my order). OK, first of all let me say this has been the first time. I have tried this place. I was at a retirement get together at the little bar next to this place this bar I have been to many years and I have seen many little restaurants connected to it But honestly, I have to say the food at this one is really good. I had really high hopes for this place due to the reviews and pictures. I've had Shorter's on my radar for a little while and I finally got around to trying them. What initially stood out to me and caught my eye about this place was that they serve some items that aren't typical of a barbecue spot in California such as barbecue spaghetti and rib tips. I ordered the tri-tip plate with barbecue spaghetti and greens and we also ordered the 6-piece fried catfish with garlic fries. Let's start with the catfish first, the pieces were pretty big and were fried to perfection. The fish was seasoned very well and had good flavor, however the garlic fries were a letdown as they were quite soggy and seemed undercooked. The tri-tip was ok, it had good flavor but didn't really have that smoked for hours taste and it was loaded with a lot of barbecue sauce which I would have preferred on the side. The tri-tip was tender and pretty juicy but I wish it had more flavor, they do give you a hefty portion which is much appreciated. The greens were ok, they could have been seasoned more and would have been better if they had some meat in it. The barbecue spaghetti was very good and flavorful but very spicy and the thing that disappointed me with this is that it was very mushy. The spaghetti would have been top notch if it wasn't mushy and not as spicy. The spice was very overpowering. Looking for some BBQ and found this hidden gem on Yelp. I'm so glad I stopped in. They are literally next door to a bowling alley. When I walked in I was greeted by I believe the owners wife. And in exit she said thank you have a nice day. My order was taken quickly, I asked a question regarding the hot links if they were very hot. The owner stated average heat like a Costco hot link. So I ordered a Chicken Dinner with Red Beans and Rice & Yams for my wife and a 3 way of Brisket, Ribs & Link, sides potato salad and BBQ Baked Beans. My wife said there was a lot of chicken, perfectly cooked, good smoke flavor and the BBQ Sauce was good with a little heat. She said the Red Beans and Rice & Yams were good. When I opened the 3 way combo there was a ton of meat, smoke flavor, definitely could have shared. I received 3 Ribs, 4 Rib Tips (this was extra touch and was appreciated), 1 Link and pulled brisket. BBQ sauce was hot and good, slight heat. The potato salad was homemade and delicious, the BBQ Baked Beans were very tasty. So much food, I'll have brisket sandwiches for lunch for a couple days. I am not from the area, but needed to find a place with outdoor seating for our puppy. Shorter's popped up on the list and the reviews and menu looked good. We got there and there was no outdoor seating, but when I mentioned it they totally accommodated us. They moved a table outside with everything that goes with it. They served us 3 waters (one for the dog). The food was amazing! And the service was as well. Definitely going back. read more

This is probably one of the worst bbq spots that I've tried. The Mac and cheese looks like if it was made with powdered cheese and was super watery and a whole bunch of pepper was added for I don't know what reason. Baked beans tasted as if they were the canned baked beans. The yams came In a container super sweet and drenched in syrup. The bbq sauce has a strong clove taste which is unbearable and takes away any taste of the meat. Corn bread is dry. I paid about $60 and they charge for extra sauce plus corn bread. I came here for a 2nd time today Saturday April 8th while at the bowling alley for my daughter's friends birthday party. This place is located at the end of the bowling alley on the East Street side. They have a huge smoker going outside which always makes you feel good about how the meats are going to be. I ordered a brisket sandwich Togo and munched it down later that night. The meat was tender, and had good flavor with the BBQ sauce. The owners there taking orders, cooking, getting orders ready, running the show. First time try.. I placed a phone order with a 15 to 20min pick-up (NOT BAD). When I arrived the placed smelled SOOOOO good. I asked for no sauce on meat, but sauce on the side. They messed up there‍. I like to taste the food in its entirety to know if it's a stand alone or if sauce is needed. HOWEVER, the sauce was HELLA good & I tasted a few pieces of meat that had no sauce & I can definitely say it's a stand alone NO SAUCE NEEDED.. meat was tender & nicely smoked tasting. Every side was really good & well prepared.. Nothing was over or undercooked. It was ALL just right! The ambiance isn't GREAT, so I'd probably just order takeout, but the place is clean! Food was good, and I say good because the expectations were low for the area we were in. We actually ordered quite a bit of food, as there were nine of us. The thing that killed the rating was the service. The girl who worked up front could care less about anything. I asked if she had more menus, there was only 1 menu for 9 people. She said you can order online and pointed to the scan code. So we started to order. However I noticed they had hotdogs and chicken tenders on their paper menu and not on the online. When I asked "how do we order those items online?" Her response was oh I don't know.... After her going back and forth with her coworker she said she would have to take the order (and it was very obvious she was annoyed to have to take the order) so I had to relay everything I had started to put in online. They arrived on time, the set up was very nicely done and without disruption to the event in progress, and the catering staff was very friendly and courteous. Now for the food...Mmmmm! Overall I would rate this place a solid 3 out of 5, the meats were pretty solid yet the sides were average. They were pretty shy with the BBQ sauce and their mac & cheese was a lackluster dish, for a BBQ restaurant I was disappointed with this aspect. The service was okay but they were busy when we ordered so the food took time. I would not go back again but believe they have more potential. read more
